i think this is the website version, http://www.cowboom.com/product/1234765
if anyone's looking for it

thisonelies 08-19-2012 11:14 PM

Always wondered about these Cowboom deals.

So if the description does not include notes of scratches, can we assume that particular one has no scratches at all?

i.e. first listing is:

Item ID: 22968841
What's Included: Tablet PC
Not Included: AC Adapter USB Cable Headphones Owners Manuals
Item Location: Chino CA
$129.99

next listing is:

Item ID: 22968843
Notes: SCRATCHES ON THE BACK
What's Included: Tablet PC
Not Included: AC Adapter USB Cable Headphones Owners Manuals
Item Location: Chino CA

So does that mean the first listing has no scratches at all on the screen or back?

Edit: NM, I see that the website version also comes with grading, thanks HornyDog, +1 rep

koby333 08-19-2012 11:14 PM

how does this compare to the google nexus 7? thanks

chunky649 08-19-2012 11:22 PM

I've never purchased from Cowboom before, but heard good things about it. Still, the best I can find (looked at all 11 pages) was a rating of 5 including the adapter. That is clearly used.
If they had grade 7, I would have bite on this used tablet. Assuming the worst - a 9 month old tablet, the battery should be good for another year least...

Not worth the risk/hassle for $127 for me.

kona_kane 08-19-2012 11:23 PM

Same price and deal on the normal site just picked up a 8 everything included thanks!

This now has Ice cream sandwich. Not as fast as nexus 7, but fast enough for most. The graphics/screen is not as nice as Nexus 7. The biggest benefit is acceptance of external memory card. Also, it is cheaper (for used/refurb)

In my opinion, this is the nicest 7" tablet you can get if you don't want the Nexus 7 because of the lack of external memory support... (Ok, there is the 7.7, but that is way overpriced)

What's you trick? I got the deal alert and started searching the 11 pages and didn't see anything above 5... I also had to look manually (no searching/sorting)

josemedina1983 08-19-2012 11:34 PM

All rated 4 and 5 out of 10 :(

what the crap is the matter with these? did some jackass purchase like 200 of these and stole all chargers and cables basically all accessories and returned them in mass or what?

not a single one of them includes a charger and USB cable and what not LOL

i was really going to try one even at grade 5.

You do know that they have a 30-day return policy, right? They pay return shipping.
I got my brother a grade 6 (not this, Samsung Fascinate), and it had two small chisel-ish marks around the outside edges. The screen and the rest of the phone was flawless. I filled out the RMA form for an exchange, printed out return label, and sent it to UPS. Very easy and smooth. Got a refurbished one back about a week and half later that was perfect, except bottom mic doesn't work (top mic does). Called them, they apologized not having any 6+ grade in stock anymore, and sent me another prepaid label to ship it back for full refund.
Definitely one of the easiest companies to deal with when RMAing.

And my Droid X2, grade 5? The only flaws I can find are a couple chip marks around the micro USB port that I noticed weeks later after receiving (that's how small they are).

Just my experiences with them.

I wonder if I can get this pre-owned 7 plus and get a refurbished one instead if I wont be satisfied with it with the condition.

This is super cheap. A great tablet that runs on ICS with front/back camera, GPS AND IR emitter! Too bad only 4 and 5 left.

Dude get your info straight. Official Samsung ICS ROM for this is still not out.
here's info direct from samsung website - http://www.samsung.com/us/support..._seq=49761

@BestDelaer83: But there are a bunch of Custom Firmware/Nightlly build ROMS available. I've been using BOCA MSI for quite sometime and I like the battery life on it. I did have to do some tweaks but it's no biggie.

The_Doug 08-20-2012 02:22 AM

I'll stick with Tegra 2 or similar ones for $99 (like the Ainol Elf II). I know the Samsung is likely built better, but at $99 it only has to work for a year and then I'll replace it with some sort of quad-core upgrade.

I ended up buying, came up to be at $130. Ill play with it, if I dont like it - ill just return it back.

Thanks for the clarification.
It shows that the 7 Plus will be getting ICS - but doesnt show when, same with the Captivate Glide{I have the Canadian Version Samsung Galaxy S Glide i927R - any idea or approx date when these devices will be getting ICS?
I called samsung and they dont know nothing.

xcopy 08-20-2012 03:08 AM

This seems like a pretty good deal to me. I have a Galaxy Tab2 7" (ICS 4.04) and while the Nexux 7 has a faster processor and slightly larger screen, the ability to add SD cards on this trumps both of those things, especially for the price. YMMV.

BTW - for those that want the charger and USB cable, you can get them cheap. The standard cable is short 1m (about 3') and will cost you a couple of bucks on ebay. I'd suggest getting longer cables in the 2m-3m range for a couple of bucks more..I think my 10'/3m cable was approximately $6 shipped.

EX: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Charg...3cc85164a4

Similar source for chargers. Cheap on ebay.

You can also get USB adapters on Amazon (allows you to connect all kinds of USB devices such as external card readers or whatever) for a little over $1 shipped. look up "Sanoxy". Yes, they're cheap, but they work. :)

EX: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...00_s00_i00

Enjoy. :)

i bought ipod from cowboom once.came scratched up like hell would not even turn on.sent it back.i would never again buy anything from them.perhaps more luck is to buy refurbished elsewhere.

Iron_Chin 08-20-2012 05:14 AM

I got a brand new one off eBay a month ago for $170.00. Thought it was a good deal at the time considering I had sold my iPod touch for the same amount.

dud 08-20-2012 05:22 AM

My time is too valuable to deal with returning damaged merchandise via an RMA. All remaining units are condition 4 ...

How did this "deal" ever get any thumbs up?

LOL.... I have no idea why, but it seems like 80-90% of the cowboom deals I see, never have the accessories. Just wondering if they throw all the cables, cords, discs and manuals in a big box and then re-sell them individually. I'm sure when people are returning these devices to Best Buy, they're required to include all the accessories, so where does all this crap end up? I'd love to know.

DOOD, get your info right! I own this tablet and upgraded via Samsung Kies 3 days ago. It's been out for over a week. It is ONLY available for download via KIES right now.

So before you start quoting crap, might want to do a little more digging.

I keep seeing units with a score of 4
want to get one but only if it pops up with 6 or higher with usb & ac plug

Not sure, but a guess is that these could be "swaps". They could have been returned for service at some point and the user kept the materials expecting to get his/her unit back. If so, they were too ugly to resell so they were fixed, and sold off for small change, sans accessories (which are dirt cheap as i pointed out in a post above).

Do kids really need tablets? Plenty of time till Xmas. And you can always go for a Nook Color/Kindle Fire.

I think most of these are store display models and the stores probably did not keep track of the accessories after the item was put out for display. If you looked at the pictures when cowboom had a lot of stock, a lot of these had a weird circular pattern kind of worn into the back of the tab. I think this was from the display holder in store.

KingPin6 08-20-2012 01:46 PM

and its dead!

hkklife 08-20-2012 01:48 PM

This thing trumps the Galaxy Tab 2 in every way other than having ICS officially pre-installed on the 2. The Tab Plus has a better screen, 2x the internal storage (important for app storage in ICS/HC) and a faster CPU/GPU.

mgeoffriau 08-20-2012 01:49 PM

Semi-dead. I think there's a handful that people are holding in their carts. Every so often when I check the page, there will be one available. Within a few minutes it goes back to out of stock.

So, if you are really dead set on picking up a Condition 4 with no accessories, be patient and use your F5 key and you might get lucky.

mgeoffriau 08-20-2012 01:54 PM

And I just lucked out. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 has been nothing but Condition 4's for a day now. Just checked it and happened across a Condition 7 with all accessories. $170 shipped.

HINT: There was also a Condition 5 Galaxy Tab 8.9 available.

I have this device, and I have ICS. Just plug it into a computer with Samsung Kies installed, and follow the wizard to update your device.

malorkus 08-20-2012 03:22 PM

what do these grades mean? grade 5,6,7, etc? is there a web site that explains it? also, if these are heavily used then I'll pass because you dont know if the previous owner had HIV, or hepatitis, and used the item for porn. that's why you should nevet buy such products for kids!

Well you are both right... most of them come from stores with some of them coming from customers. The guy who mentioned a big box where all the accessories go also was correct since most of them do not look new they are just thrown in a big cardboard box and sold seperately

I think you have to refresh your cart fairly frequently to keep it from kicking the item back out.

Mine was delivered today. It was rated a 5 and it was better than expected. I would have objectively rated it more like a 7. It had light signs of use but no major defects. Really nice and light tablet. This kills the Kindle Fire in usability and features. The built in IR remote sure is a nice extra. Upgraded to official ICS and it's really easy to root. Reps to OP.

Cool! I got a g4. I don't care too much about the scratch; I just hope nothing wrong with tab itself.

I got my grade 5 yesterday. I picked mine based off the description and examining the photos. It's actually in really great shape. Screen was flawless and there was 2 curved lines on the back. I was expecting to have to send it back, but I was really impressed with it.

I wasnt able to upgrade yet since it didnt come with the USB Cable or a charger.
Was wondering if any one knows a cheap place to buy one at?

Edit - found one on fleabay for $1.99 shipped from the U.S if any one is interested

http://www.ebay.com/itm/230803703...251wt_1344

p.s - tried to update it via kies to ICS - but all it did update the firmware twice but that was it, still on 3.2 honeycomb.

KinKin 08-29-2012 09:22 AM

Updated to ICS (via Kies) Everything work smoothly! At first, I was having problem updating then I found out that cheap ebay cable was
acting up. Although it is plug in, you have to push it in harder to get a good connection.

I can't believe (my first tab) I got a Tab 7.0 + for $120. I got a grade 4 and it was in perfect condition (lucky perhaps?)

Thanks OP!

One back in stock for $755.98 :lmao:

I ordered a grade 5 - turned up being more like grade 9 with no scratches what so oever front or back.
As far as USB Cable - no probs, I ordered one on ebay for $1.99{Now its $1.79} with free shipping. Got it in 3 days with a tracking number so that was pretty nice.
Plugged it in to the computer with Kies installed - upgraded smoothly to ICS, and runs like butter, and I dont see no reason why this shouldnt get JellyBean with its beefy specs.
As you know - charging this is the tricky part with this tab If you using a non official Samsung USB cable or non official Samsung Wall Charger, the tablet must be off first, and then using the generic USB Cable it can be plugged into the computer or to the wall with the generic wall charger and it charges just fine.
I wonder if there is a cheap charger{Less than $5} that will charge it even while its on.
