These are fantastic Streamers - I own 3 of them - If I had a spare $105 right now I would grab Two more. I run netflix on these all day long and stream my MKV's over a wired network to them with no issues. Ready to sell ALL my popcorn hours.

icebrg5 09-07-2012 03:14 PM

Whats the warranty on the refurb units?

cboothe 09-07-2012 03:19 PM

Got dinged for tax, but still a great deal. I've bought their refurbs before without issue.

you apparently do not care about DTS-MA or Dolby Tru-HD...

budcluck 09-07-2012 04:09 PM

I paid $40 for a brand new PBO, flashed with Mede8er firmware, and it supports DTS-MA and Dolby Tru-HD. Western Digital stated that it was "prohibited by the DTS licensing group," which is a complete lie since almost every media player supports it.

The last good thing they had were those Caviar Black Elements drives, and one of mine just died and I got a Caviar Green MyBook for the RMA since the Elements drives are discontinued. Sure, the last good thing they had got discontinued, lol.

$119.98
Discount -$15.00
Shipping $0.00
Shipping Discount $7.99
Tax $6.56
Total $111.54

Did I do something wrong here? I thought it's free shipping but still add 7.99 after I applied WDCARES?

Seadiel 09-07-2012 05:24 PM

OOS already dang.

Sure I do. They pass it to my receiver just fine. I can post photo proof if you want me to. dolby true HD has been passed to my Receiver using WD streamer and MKV BR rips. I can live with DTS-MA not passing ATM.

Noob doesn't understand what he's talking about. You're right they pass through just fine. I'm going to grab these as soon as I get home.

NOt sure, but I beleive DTS-MA does not pass - I have never seen it come up on my receiver with the WD, but my Blu Ray player it has. I also checked the forums and a few posts claim the firmware does not support DTS-MA passthrough, but know what I can deal with DTS and DDMA just fine for now

yup, the only thing you did wrong was not learning how to add. 104.98 + 6.56 tax = 111.54 They did not charge you any shipping.

DTS-MA will NEVER pass through the WD due to a licensing issue. I had forgotten though that Dolby Tru-HD does pass, so you are correct on that front. It is just that many more titles are now using DTS-MA and not Dolby Tru-HD anymore. I need to have the DTS-MA and do not like the lossy core as much, so I am still using my Dune players...

You, my friend, got very lucky! Not all of the PBO's had the 1073+ chip in them. It is only that "+" designation that allowed us to bitstream both Tru-HD and DTS-MA. If only the PBO supported branching titles on my blu ray rips I would still be using it!

yourwhiteshadow 09-07-2012 08:27 PM

OOS already. i really wanted one of these too...

This one for sure. Keep in mind NONE are perfect, but Roku player is limited, it won't play .avi and .iso for sure, check at Roku.com. WD played every thing. Roku is much more for people whom subcribed to Netflix, Hulu etc.

As someone who owns both:

Are you interested in primarily streaming online media, or local media (backed up movies and the like)? If online, get the Roku 2 XD (XS if you care about the games), no question. It has every online service you could possibly care about, and in a seamless, quick interface. And it constantly being updated with new services.

If you have a lot of local content you want to play, get the WD. It has some online services, but WD has a very poor track record of ever adding new ones; treating these players as disposable as soon as the next one is scheduled to be released.

Nothing beats the WD's capabilities for local content (that I've seen), and nothing beats a Roku 2 XD/XS for online content.

truelies 09-24-2012 10:06 PM

In stock again. This is the best player.

wsrep 09-25-2012 01:30 AM

A couple of family members been asking on a good deal for this player. Perfect timing.
