Samsung 27" 1080p LED Monitor at Costco B&M $229 + tax

1 Attachment(s)
Got this monitor tonight at Costco and love it.

S27B350H is the model. Item number is: 657427.

Original price is $269.99 - $40 Mfr Instant Rebate = $230
I got it for about $241 with tax.

Specs: 1920x1080 Resolution, HDMI & VGA Inputs, 1000:1 Typical Contrast Ratio, Tilt Stand

Newegg's got the same one (but in transparent red) for $300 + $40 newegg GC here in comparison. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6824001551

It's also on the costco website, but not for the same price.
http://www.costco.com/Samsung-27....RRWidgetID

The only review that's on the costco site mentions that it's super light...but that's how LED monitors are.....so :dontknow:.

Bought the same one this evening at Costco. Broken in properly; fapped, CS, Reddit now SD and typing this message. I highly recommend this monitor.

How does it compare to any of the IPS or VA panel monitors you have?

I'd rather get a 23" IPS panel LCD for this price , I don't know about the rest of you.

foreinter 09-20-2012 09:21 PM

Does this have a wall mount?

panini 09-20-2012 09:22 PM

^^ Dont even compare this with IPS screens. 27 Inch and 1920X 1080p is not a great thing to have.
We are having same resolution for 21.5inch these days.
PPI matters :)

spongebobfl 09-20-2012 09:29 PM

I looked at this when it was $269 but went with the 'Acer - 27" Widescreen Flat-Panel LED HD Monitor' that Best Buy had on sale for about the same price. I went with the Acer because it comes with a 3 year warranty and HDMI, VGA, -and- DVI. I thought the picture was about the same on both. I think they are both pretty good for the price.

hope it came with a cloth to clean the screen

...you fail to mention that it all depends on the user. This is a solid monitor for the specs. Not everyone needs an expensive IPS monitor.

Paying $200+ dollars for any TN panel ( except 3D) seems like a rip off.

Eh. Up close (which is how computer monitors are used) this won't be too pretty. Pixel density is just gonna be bad at that size. You are gonna have to move the monitor back, which then begs the question, if you are gonna move it back, why not just buy a slightly smaller monitor for a less money and use it at normal viewing distance.

How close do you plan on sitting to a 27" monitor? If you're only a foot or so away, you probably shouldn't be getting one this size anyway lol

I agree with nJoy. If you NEED a 27 inch monitor, you would be needing it for the screen real estate. Otherwise, it's a waste of space with the resolution it offers.

tzakiel 09-21-2012 06:06 AM

If you are a gamer there is something to having a slightly larger screen. I use a 30" monitor and only sit a couple of feet away. Everyone has a preference.

This is a bigger brother of 24" which was 139.99 and posted here with little love. I have that and I will prefer that with half the investment. I had 27" Planar from Dell deal which I had to sell because it was too big. The back of these monitors is not flat.

it already sucks that most are HD and not 1920x1200 anymore.

Dunno about "bad". The pixel size scales with distance, so you're maybe looking at sitting an extra 6" further back for the same pixel size, or pixels that are ~23% larger (about 1.75 arcmin vs. 1.43 arcmin for a 22" monitor when both are viewed at 24"). However, I will say that once the monitor gets above 24", I am always disappointed not to see 16:10. Those extra 120 pixels of height do make a difference. I understand the economics (glut of 16:9 panels) but it'd be nice to find extra real estate for ~$200 every now & then...

I tell you what, when you find a 27" IPS in this price range, post it and I'm sure you'll get over 1000 TU. Until then, don't head into every TN monitor post and TC about how it's not IPS. People buying it know that it's not IPS. Guess what? Some people think standard HD res looks great on a 27" from ~2 feet back. I purchased two Sammy P2770s at Costco about a year and a half ago for ~300 each, and I have been very happy with them (different computers before you start complaining about color shifting when viewed at off angles). This is a great deal for someone looking to up their screen real estate without breaking the bank or squinting at 1920x1080 on a 21 inch monitor. That's not to mention the folks who play games, for which response time of the monitor is of paramount importance. When I purchased, IPS couldn't deliver the same low response times that TN panels could, which was a major factor in my decision. I'm sure they've improved the IPS panels (I've been out of the market since I purchased), but are they up to TN specs yet?

As an aside, I find it hilarious that you are ok paying for more for 3D yet complain about TN. Have you watched anything in 3D? So let me get this straight--you're going to complain about pixelation for a 27" in 1080p from 2 feet but then be ok watching something in the terrible image quality that is 3D? 3D makes my eyes want to cry...I hate looking at multiple images of the same thing when the 3D effect doesn't work out exactly the way it should...

Thanks OP, would get one if I needed it.

And as a counterpoint to this, I appreciated that he immediately drew my attention to this, so I didn't waste much time looking at it.

Let's be blunt, the only reason anyone would get non-IPS is for budget reasons. It's an extremely short-sighted investment choice in monitor in any other scenario..But not everyone appreciates this distinction at first glance, so it was good that it was pointed out. You get on this guy's case for doing that, well let me get on yours a little then: what's your problem with bringing this aspect -- the #1 shortfall of this monitor, most would agree -- into clear context? What's wrong with making sure people understand what they are (or are not) buying?

I have no problem with bringing the drawbacks of a purchase into light. I understand that if you have an unlimited budget you would *probably* want to go with IPS. Again, I'll bring up the point about TN having better response times. If you're gaming, response time is paramount. Note that I haven't done research lately to see if they've improved IPS response times (and I don't care to). To insinuate that anybody purchasing a TN panel will be upset by how it looks, however, is misleading. There will probably be several people who look at that post and think, "Holy crap, I can't get a TN panel. It will look like sh*t." That is not true.

But, to discuss...Let's be blunt, the only reason someone would get a BMW is for budget reasons. Why not get a Rolls-Royce or a McLaren? It's an extremely short-sighted investment choice in monitor in any other scenario.

People have to make decisions on how to best allocate scarce resources. You can't just state that IPS is better so you should definitely get it. Would you feel the same if a 27" IPS panel was $80,000? Great, we've found an upper bound on what you're willing to spend for IPS. Now recognize that not everybody values their monitor the same as you do, and you can see why some would prefer a TN panel over an IPS panel, even if the IPS panel is only $600 (which would be an exceptional deal at 27").

Um, the difference between IPS and TN is an absolute technical difference. The difference between BMW and McLaren (or whatever) is not, its about perceived quality. And, frankly, a lot more people know car brands & their reputation, that what the difference between TN and IPS is ... or, heck, even what TN and IPS themselves mean.

But, point noted. But I still would say the same if this thread was BMW vs McLaren and you pointed that out. What's wrong with talking about alternative choices?

I would point out that there are vast technical differences between a BMW and a McLaren as well as perceived differences such as styling, but we're getting off topic. I wish that every poster had your courtesy and reasoning abilities; the forum would be a better place. I will leave this discussion by saying that I certainly appreciate discussing the negative aspects of item, and making sure that people understand what they're buying. I have benefit from such discussions myself. However, what I don't appreciate is people making blanket statements that serve to mislead those that have never seen the product and may or may not have the ability to do so in person. The fact is that this is a very nice monitor for the price, and telling everybody that it is a crap deal just because it is not IPS is not constructive (and not true for that matter).

OK, thanks for reply. i think int he end anyone thinking about buying this was actually (indirectly) served by your "debate" with the other poster, brought the tradeoffs into focus. LOL "how much does size matter vs quality in how its implemented" can be controversial in more debate topics than one!

People seem to be quite happy with the reviews on this product. Even the bad reviews are alright, generally a defect or a missing cable. So I guess if people don't have extreme standards or have jobs related to image/video rendering.. It should suit most people just fine. Would buy this if my monitor wasn't already coming in the mail..

Most of the reviews are from people who don't know what a quality display is.

They probably never ever seen one in person either.

That's why I said "most people". Users who are anal clearly should know this will not suit them.

Yes , most people have low standards so this would be fine for them.

Here's [techreport.com] a good article for anyone interested in a Korean IPS monitor.

I've been thinking about trying one of those monitors awhile. This one you posted looks like the best deal I've seen on one. I might pull the trigger on this. Thanks!
