I'm really tempted. Has this been at a lower price?

Yes, it is the lowest price. If you look HERE you will see that this is the lowest price for this bundle.
It even made front page what it was $200 :)

powertool4 09-30-2012 02:40 PM

It's a good deal but i also see a couple locally for around $150. guess if you need it or want it, it's a great deal especially cause it's new. but not for reselling or money makin

dubleo 09-30-2012 02:45 PM

I guess these are going to get discontinued soon?

hzh003 09-30-2012 02:59 PM

A lot of bad review.

Yes, it has been at a lower price. I got mine for $149. You still might PMng at Best Buy.

budcluck 09-30-2012 03:03 PM

was $150 at kmart b&m, so it may get cheaper

sandaboy90 09-30-2012 03:04 PM

Tons of people are complaining that the display goes out in like a month, the picture quality sucks, they get dead pixels, flickering, etc. Guess they're liquidating it because they might be discontinuing it or just because it is of cheap quality. Price is nice, but I guess you get what you pay for in this case...was tempted, but I guess I'm staying away.

qkslvr221 09-30-2012 03:20 PM

I've seen quality control issues about the red light, but mostly very good things about the picture quality and sound. For 150 it's a good secondary screen with a warranty.

xWarMECHx 09-30-2012 03:40 PM

Saw a whole pile of them right at the entrance at my local B&M with a sign advertising this special. Quite a few people walking around with one in hand too.

Glasses were still $69.99 :/

I really want to buy one, but hearing about the commonly experienced issues is really deterring me.

robotheart 09-30-2012 04:04 PM

I just ordered mine from Best Buy. It was this price. I figure I can return it easily if there are any problems, and if the price drops, I can PM for a longer period, since I have Premier Silver.

I bought one too, oh well. Can't win them all (if it was 3 weeks ago, your friend can still return it).

Deleted.

Center 09-30-2012 05:48 PM

I got this when it was $199, and I will say that the 3D works, but there's a lot of ghosting when I use it as a PC monitor and I'm scrolling through a webpage. If you have a black box on a webpage, and you scroll down, you'll see like a red streak trailing behind it. It's subtle, but noticeable. I would use this if you really want 3D PC gaming, but not as a primary monitor.

Just ask for a price match. BB PM's for 30 days, 60 for Premier Silver. Sony Style is an approved retailer for price matching.

Baddogdaddy 09-30-2012 06:44 PM

Actually a good deal if you get the pm at bestbuy. Make sure you spend the extra to get the replacement plan as these don't last long. I've been through two in six months. The reason being is that Sony has had these remanufactured. They are dumping these in favor of the new line of them that is coming out soon. They look almost the same and will be packaged the same but it will be a new model. The only reason I know this is because I work for the company that thermoforms the rear shells for Sony televisions.

happitilley 09-30-2012 06:52 PM

I just bought the deal. thx for posting.

DoggXXL 09-30-2012 07:07 PM

Thanks OP. Gonna buy one since I missed out on the BB deal for same price(all local B&M OOS). Just wondering, for warranty, should i go with Sony or Squaretrade?

APhamX 09-30-2012 07:12 PM

Might get this for a computer monitor... I mean.. 24" 2ms LED are around this price.

AdamB15 09-30-2012 07:15 PM

Damn it Sony.. just Damn it...

Didn't this open to around 300?

Almost half-price in....what, a year? Less than a year?

Ah well.

LOOK_AT_THIS_I 09-30-2012 07:18 PM

I just got one of these at best buy yesterday. The picture is beautiful, the 3d looks good so far on the ps3. Watched the avengers in 3d and played a few games and was suprised at how good they looked. Figured this would be a cheaper in estment to see if i would like/be able to stand the 3d in games/movies. So far so good.

I got a 4yr warranty from best buy for 30 bucks due to the issues reported. I hope that maybe some of the reports were just a shoddy batch but took he extra precautions just in case.

shortyman920 09-30-2012 07:25 PM

If anyone is looking for a TV for their dorm room and if they aren't gonna sit too far away then this TV is excellent. You won't find much better PQ at $160. I haven't even used the 3D settings yet, but for 2D gaming it's been excellent

marcos6 09-30-2012 08:21 PM

I don't need the headache - I'll pass.

ShIzNiTs 09-30-2012 08:32 PM

i think these will be on heavy clearance before year-end. the reviews are awful for what appeared to me as a sony premier product at launch. i have to see this up close and personal to make a decision. ill bite at $120 probably.

It isn't a TV, is it? As far as I know it doesn't have a built in tuner, so it's just a 3D monitor. I ordered one on Friday so I guess I'll find out soon enough. For me, a tuner would make it much more valuable.

Devedander 09-30-2012 08:41 PM

Wow... $21+ tax to CA? Whats up with 15% tax?

littlebuddha 09-30-2012 08:53 PM

good time to use some points from my sony rewards card - the price is tempting but I convinced myself to wait and spend a little extra on a 45-50in 3d led/plasma tv I plan on getting by the end of the year.

haojiang 09-30-2012 08:53 PM

Although so many bad reviews, in for 1 anyway. It is a steal at this price!

Well it's technically listed as a TV which is why I mentioned it as such. But yeah no cox input which is strange for sure and no remote either .

As a monitor, it's not the greatest I'll be honest but it's better than most 24 inch televisions (again putting the PS33D display under 'tv' category since it's whats advertised at) as a monitor.

If you wanna game, then this TV is pretty excellent. What's important is that the picture quality is very stellar. I notice less jaggies here than on my $1000 panasonic plasma at home, the 240hz refresh rate keeps the motion blur down and almost gives you plasma level smoothness. Colors look very good and yet they are accurate. Lighting looks great on this screen.

Two cons tho are that blacks are pretty bad but that may be a fault of LED/LCD tv's in general. Also the glare is pretty severe so if you are putting this next to a bright window then that'll be a problem.

Also I recommend getting a protection plan with it. I hear that the failure rate is pretty high. The actual TV looks and feels like a premium product however. But I just hear these things are prone to having issues.

You do know that the 240 Hz on this monitor is fake ( interpolated) , right?

OliverTwisterJr 09-30-2012 09:58 PM

lol they cant sell these things for shit

Ezio 09-30-2012 10:01 PM

Can this be used for PC Gaming?

spike378 09-30-2012 10:06 PM

Im gonna wait till they go for 100 haha.. Dont feel like paying tax and dont feel like buying from Sony

sahkuh 09-30-2012 10:08 PM

Finally bit the bullet now that it's less than 200 after CA taxes. Stupid hippie recycling fee.

Been wanting to play my PS3 games and watch movies in 3D at home. I can also set it up in front of my current TV and watch TV shows and play PS3 games at the same time.

I thought it was actual. Since 3D requires 120 Hz, and it has the SimuView, then doesn't that mean it is 240? or maybe just 120 (60 Frames for each player). I honestly don't know, just throwing stuff around.

It uses interpolation ( in this case fake frames).

There are no true 240 Hz monitors on the market ; however , there are true 120 Hz monitors (such as the Asus VG278H).

Thewiz666 09-30-2012 10:23 PM

Don't these have a tendency to just go out suddenly and stop working? Thought I read that in the Kmart thread of a few weeks back.

Yeah, I have a Samsung SA950 which also has true 120 Hz, just wasn't sure about the Sony though.

I wonder how "Mr. Toots" would look in stunning 3D........?!?! http://youtu.be/aorjnobv-I0

shortyman920 09-30-2012 10:39 PM

Well they may be fake 240hz refresh rates, but either way motion blur is not bad on these babies. They are a LOT better than budget brand TVs for sure. I find them to be better than some other comparable 24" TVs as well. So read into the numbers as much as you want, but bottom line it's smooth :)

mikealcl 09-30-2012 10:54 PM

I've had 3 of these don't get one!!! They die, go black, and flicker.

Pzark41 09-30-2012 11:02 PM

Looks like they've had some issues with QC

twostepopper 09-30-2012 11:07 PM

My friend bought one and the screen crapped out within 2 weeks.
Then had it replaced and he loves it. Only plays on this screen instead of his big screen led.

baddog992 09-30-2012 11:42 PM

Yeah good luck is right, wish they would sell off these things and be done with em. Not that im be grudging a good sale and good on the poster for finding a great price but these things break down a lot and have other issues besides just that. I was tempted 3 months ago to get one but now glad I didnt.

phatcow12 09-30-2012 11:46 PM

I bought this at BB a few days ago and i like it but heres why i dont love it:

Pros:
-Nice design
-Great display
-Has speakers, so both monitor and tv for my ps3
-Comes with a game and glasses which imma try to sell lol
-3D function

Cons:
-Sound quality is pretty bad
-Had the screen go blank for a few seconds (my friend got his same time and same thing happen)
-Tv bu no remote? err...
-Bit of a glare
-Alot of issues posted online.

-currently debating either returning it or buying warranty.

The Sony name is going downhill. I just uncovered a problem with my barely used 5 year old DVD recorder/VHS player. I opened it up and the problem was that sony wanted to save an extra 2 cents on plastic for one of its gears. Ricidulous, inexcusable design and design quality control. And this is an exception to the made in china quality problems, this is a problem in design. See attached pic - instead of using a full plastic gear, they used weak spokes that would obviously break in time.

With the direction Sony is heading, it will be a no-name in electronics. My next TV will probably be one of Sony's competitors.

Print out the price @ $159.99 I'm sure someone took a screen capture I'm sure and at least have him get his $30 + tax back. I don't think there's much of a problem if you buy the 4 year warranty from BB or ST. Going through BB you can bring it to the store & they will ship it, otherwise I believe in the last thread someone mentioned ST will send you the box to ship it in so that saves $$ from having to pay the shipping directly to Sony. The worst case scenario is BB suddenly folds but usually the warranties are through a 3rd party underwritting company anyway... otherwise if the unit fails & fails you get a gift card for the value, plus you can work a little sympathy dealing with them YMMV.

You can use your cable box or use your Computer with a TV card / or something like the Ceton, or Silicon dust and use Windows 7 Media player on it so plenty of ways to make it a TV if you want to, or ROKU/WD or Netflix Hulu box as well.

...Bruce Lee movie. "Are you for-real-man?" They don't make VCR's like they used to... if you think it's a Sony only thing you're kidding yourself. Every maker of electronics has budget lines all the way up to their high end models. Sony like every other company is competing in the unfortunate race to the bottom. The customers (U.S.) --> Walmart want dirt cheap electronics (from China) and yet they are surprised when the their CRT "solid state" TV from the 80's is still firing away but the TV they bought in 20## something gave up the ghost already. We can't have it both ways. If we want quality, it comes at a price, it's made in America, Japan, Korea and it COSTsss $$$.

We still have VCR's working from the Reagan Era. I have a couple stacks of VCR's from sales, businesses, and local University sales. They range in ages & many brands, but one thing goes across the board they used to be heavy, made with metal casings, big power supplies, and now they're made cheap inside & out, made of light weight pastic and garbage parts but it's not just Sony.

I don't see how they can do that if it is still 24", unless those are just going to be refurbs that they send out for all the warranty replacements they expect. If they had to liquidate these out at this low of a price, there is no way they can sell a new display with minimal changes since no one will want to pay more than these clearance prices anymore. Unless they plan to use a cheaper panel like a TN and keep the msrp low, I don't see how any of the bean counters at sony gave that the OK.

I was told there were plans for bigger screen sizes but they were scrapped after the poor reception for this model. Time will tell. Maybe the TV division will come out with an aggressively priced model with a bump in screen size but lacking the SimulView.

Black Friday is around the corner. ;)

I was tempted till I read some customer reviews. Reviews are bad. A bunch of reviews have mentioned that these units die after a short time from heat. They get a red light, indicating there is a problem.

I would have to imagine that Sony is dumping this from their line. Whether they will replace it with something else, is yet to be determined.

Picked up one of these last week. Looks great, 3D is nice and hooked it up to my old Zenith HDV420 (OTA HD Tuner 1080i) and the HD picture quality is amazing! This is my first experience with LED displays, as I have two older 52" CRT rear projectors and a 42" plasma. This definitely does not have as deep of blacks, and does have some glare. But it has no overscan (you can change the overscan in the menu), and colors are vibrant!

What the fark good are these Daily Deal Alert emails when by the time I get it, the item is unavailable. I'm gonna unsubscribe from this useless spam.

I made separate notifications for the Deals thread...once it goes over 3/4 thumbs or has PS3 or SSD in it.

On topic: I still have the one I brought a few weeks ago that I got/tricked Best Buy into price matching Kmart. I've played it all weekend, looks good, amazon prime shows movies on it in clear quality, Haven't hooked it up to my computer yet and no tv but anything playing through the PS3 shows up nice and I got a remote for $15 (just to have). Wish I brought two but now I'm waiting for Black Friday for other TV deals...trying to go quad-display.

The only reason I know this is because I work for the company that thermoforms the rear shells for Sony televisions.

will it be the same size? or bigger? and you heard of the prices yet? TIA

I got one for 149 at best buy with PM to kmart last week. Really nice for the price...

archerbro 10-01-2012 08:20 PM

these break very easily, CAGbasically stated don't buy unless you're buying an extended warranty.

AmanO 10-04-2012 09:33 PM

Anyone figure out how to wall/arm mount these? Is there a VESA standard that is rectangular?

xninjagrrl 10-05-2012 02:25 PM

I got mine earlier today and so far so good. It actually looks pretty sharp in person. I haven't scoured for dead pixels but I haven't noticed anything too obvious. The only complaint, if it can be called that with edge lit LED dislays, is the fair amount of light leakage on the right side. The left side is very minimal. As long as this thing doesn't start blacking out on me I can live with this for the price. I have the volume at 80 and no distortion so that's a plus. I must live in a gorram bat cave because I'm not really noticing that much glare. My Panny plasma is much more noticeable, probably due to it's obscene size.

I put mine back in the box for now, debating on whether to return it. It's small in my room, especially in comparison to my 32". The picture looks great, though. It was angled toward my window, and even with my curtains open, the glare on the screen wasn't a huge issue. The 3D looks great, but the glasses make it really dark. The glasses themselves have glare issues; if there is any light in the room, I can see reflections in the glasses while wearing them. My main issue with the display is the sound distortion. I watched Avengers and it was manageable, but when I watched The Cabin In The Woods, I had to turn it off, it was so uncomfortable. Might mess around with different setups/settings, but might just give up the ghost and take it back.

Hey if your having problems with your picture looking washed out, possibly even the sound issues, try swapping out hdmi cables. The cable that came with mine was pure and utter crap.

Anyone have one of these since release?

Sony is OOS and Best Buy raised the price, but I was hoping to get one if it drops in price again and use it as a extra display

Don't bother. They are junk and a headache waiting to happen. On mine the HDMI On function stopped working after 3 days and the Quick Start function refuses to turn off. I've already seen the screen flicker black three times. I am returning to Sony before my 30 days runs out. Even with a 3 year warranty, you will be lucky to have this in your possession for half that time since the other half it will be in for repairs. This panel is too dim anyways and playing 3D on it is not much fun. My plasma is at least twice as bright as this which is sad as plasmas are dim.

I finally opened mine. It wasn't even from this deal but the deal a month earlier. So little time, so much stuff. Good news is that it powers up. It looks beautiful. I don't know what people are complaining about. As a monitor, it's as good as any. It is crazy shiny but you only notice that when it's off. Don't stare at it when it's off. Problem solved. I hate the button and port placement. Hate it. The power plug socket is way loose. I can jiggle it.

I got this solely for 3D. My problem is that I got a Radon 7770 to drive it in 3D. AMD sucks in that it makes hardware but no software. I have to go buy a 3rd party driver that supposedly works like crap anyways. I should have gone nvidia.

travfar 10-25-2012 11:25 AM

Just played WOT in 3D. Delish. I find that if I just go with it and stop fighting the 3D effect, it kicks right in. I can't go back to flat.

travfar 10-28-2012 02:11 PM

I must be doing something wrong. 4 days now and it's still going strong. No weird blackouts. Just a clear beautiful picture. I'm over the 3D now though. I'm glad I didn't buy anymore glasses. I doubt I'll even use the pair I have. Too flickery. I should have known since I can't watch DLP projectors either.

What you're doing wrong is assuming most of the failures reported in forums have been out of the box. Wait a few weeks or a few months - then let us know. Perhaps you got lucky, but you wouldn't know it yet.

sklar 11-09-2012 09:55 AM

BB has this in stock at $179, with 10%+5% shop discover cash back.

Even though they've got a bit of a bad rep, I'm trying it. I needed a decent small 3d display with at least 2 hdmi and a component input for an xbox, an htpc and a wii. Pretty much fits the bill and at this price its not a bad option.

Crazy product though, I imagine Sony could do better market research. Not many people would get a ps3 for 3d gaming and then pair it with a 24" display. In my case its for my 7 year old's room and the room isn't that big, so anything much over 24-27" would be too much.

guys to review this Sony 3d display, please go review section of the forum.
