I did this promo the last time. If I recall correctly they did not even pull my credit at all. You can call any branch and ask them to confirm.

I've never applied for a checking account that does a hard credit pull. I'd be very surprised if this one did.

The last time I did this promo, they did not pull my credit at all. It was actually pretty easy. For Bill Pay, all you need to do is make a partial payment of any amount on your utility bill or credit card bill. I got a Kindle Fire which I flipped on ebay. Plus I referred a friend to this promo and received another $50 referral fee from the bank.

I was actually thinking of maybe getting a PO box online for a PA city and then fill out a forwarding address but you have to go in to give them 2 forms of ID. Looks like there might not be a way around this one. Dang :lol:

Once I even setup direct deposits from the *same* account, but I doubt this will work in general.

I live in DC, 4 miles away from their Bethesda, MD office. Does anyone know if I can open an account in their branch if I'm not an MD resident?

1 - If the ACH transfer from another account would satisfy the requirement then yes, you should be fine with that one time transfer.
2 - you have to pay 3 bills in 60 days, so you would have to time it pretty well if you only have this one bill to pay. Alternatively, you could set it up to pay a "bill" to your dad, which he could transfer back to you through the online transfer. However, you would likely need to send it to a different address than the one on the account.

I should have waited, I got in on the the regular Kindle from them from the deal earlier this year.

I just got off the phone with them and they said there is a 6-8 week waiting period after you meet the criteria. She also let me know that if I end up moving out of state that I can change my address and get it shipped to where I actually live :D
But to open an account I need to either go in there or have them send me paper work. Not going to work with a fake address.

I suspect they are going to have lots of accounts being opened and not a whole lot of Kindles being shipping.

I would assume its safe to close after you get the Kindle. I doubt they have a Kindle repo team.
But they might try to bill you or something, I'd read all the ToS and fine print.

How can this be the only time? I can name a bunch of reasons to be sad when living in California:

Its Monthly recurring.. So, just one time deposit wont work. You need to do it at least twice I think since its a 60 day period before which you can close the account.

You are partially correct. They give you 60 days. So if you deposit within the last 30 days you should be good with just 1 :D

If you deal on amazon then there is a direct deposit option and same with paypal. I did the chase direct deposit thru paypal, because I am a student and didnt work anywhere at that time.

Yeah, we don't have Costco, Trader Joe's, BJ's, Fry's, Staples, Office Max, Meiers, HHGregg, or MicroCenter in Louisiana so I think I'll thumb down all those deals as unreplicable, right? Grow the heck up people. Sometimes you can get in on a good deal, and sometimes you can't. I can assure you, that after reading that long list of stores that I don't have access to, that there have been a HUGE number of deals that I could not get in on. Sure, it sucks getting left out because of geography, but you just move on. Trust me, I wish I could have gotten in on this deal as we were already planning on getting my son a Kindle FireHD for Christmas and getting it free like this would have been awesome. My friend went yesterday and opened a Account. There was a small queue. After opening the account, he got a printout saying his Kindle will be delivered in 6-8 weeks upon meeting the required condition.

I called them and they told me your location is 45 mins away from the nearest branch and that's the reason online system will not allow you to open account. They can take the application by phone but you still have to go to branch to sign the necessary paperwork..
or you can go to branch and they will open an account for you...

I don't believe that. When I called in she said they could send me the paperwork but they don't like to because it takes longer for everything to get done.

i called in as well and they told there will be something wrong at transunion end....i am guessing it has to be distance from your home address...for me the nearest one is about 20miles..so tool must be automatically blocking people who live in far off places from these banks.

And I was already looking to change banks as my current bank cut their M-F and Saturday hours back, and totally dropped their Sunday hours. Fulton hasn't done that yet.

The terms say it has to be a paycheck, social security check, or something like that. They MAY actively check if a transfer is from paypal or a similar service and not count it. I believe an ACH transfer from another bank has a good chance of working, though.

Alternatively, somebody else suggested withdrawing from an Amazon Merchant Account, which has a better chance of working than paypal, if you get payments that way, also.

Same story with me- got the call day after applying. In my case I was told 20 miles but "30 max." I am 120 miles from closest branch (according to their website).

opened the account in branch and received a note that said:

Has anyone received their card in the mail yet? I may make a call today or just stopbyt the bank physically.

This ended up working out for me since i moved and currently the closest Franklin Mint branch is about 45 minutes away.

Any pointers to get the referral codes? I would not mind at all referring a few friends to a Free Kindle and get 50 bucks for doing that! :lmao:

Here is a timeline that I will update to check how long it takes to receive kindle:
10/13/2012 - Set up checking account at FNB branch. Provided kindle checklist.
10/15/2012 - Enter direct deposit informaton into payroll. Deposit Amount $251.00
10/19/2012 - Prenote is sent from my employer to FNB Bank.
10/22/2012 - Set up Online Banking / Sent email to estb. Online Billpay

How are you guys making the 3 bill pay transactions? Can I make 3 transactions to my credit card account or the utilities company, say for $50 each to qualify?

Yes, even partial payments count as a transaction. Utilities, credit card bills are all okay.

Thanks. Just be safe I made a partial payment to 2 of my credit cards and 1 partial to the internet service provider. So I am done with all the account requirements, now the wait for Kindle starts...... :lol:

paid $10 bucks each to 3 separate credit cards last week. DD will happen in Nov. So no clue if I'll see KFHD this year.

Did you set up your deposists from your employeer or some other method.

Yes, I did a DD for my payroll.

Did you all get a debit card with your checks? I am pretty sure I asked for a debit card but didnt get one yet.

The card came after the checks. Make sure they don't charge you the check ($34) as happened to me. It's a mistake as they claimed.

Chase did the same exact thing to me and I called up and complained and they told me they would credit back that same amount to my account within 10 business days.

got my debit card and checks before account details and information... go figure.

FatWallet is reporting KeyBank is doing this in NY now too.

I got the checks and then the card today. To sign up for the online bill you have to send in a form.... just not efficient to do online banking.... not likely to get the Kindle anytime soon.
