I bought the 100-pack lemon and each packet is basically one lemon wedge that's crystallized. Tastes exactly like fresh lemons. Great for tea or just water. It can also be a salt substitute.

Thanks for the clarification, this line tripped me up: 1 packet = 1 Tbsp. lemon juice = 1 wedge

That lime rice idea makes me want to buy them right now! So is the lemon or lime more versatile for a first purchase? Would this work in salsa?
Thanks and Repped!

teaberry 10-10-2012 01:17 PM

Ordered 100ct of each. Mmmm any recipe for the Chipotle cilantro lime rice? :bounce:

In regards to Lemon Vs. Lime. I prefer Lime, like limeade, I drink more limeade than lemonade. Personal preference.
I'm sure it would work great in Salsa.
Or even marinating chicken?

quick and dirty recipe. I'm sure there are tons out there.
And I have a rice maker.

Cook 1 cup long grain rice with coconut milk, once cooked, fluff rice with rice paddle and 2 packets of True Lime, and chopped up cilantro - salt to taste.
Done.

The best!

Love this company, but like the true lemonade, wish they'd make a true limeade and include lemonade and limeade in these deals. I tried true lemon once and it was not at all what I wanted.

applepielicious 10-10-2012 03:46 PM

Worth a try...in for 100

zyxwvuuu 10-10-2012 03:49 PM

I love the regular lemon, lime, and grapefruit packets, I have not tasted the oranges, but be warned: The Lemonade/Raspberry Lemonade flavors are sweetened with stevia, but have the same shitty aftertaste as aspertame-sweetened stuff. I can't really stand the flavour of them. So I just use the lemon packets and add my own sugar/stevia. Works great.

That is the SD way! I have never bought either of just the flavor crystals but I buy a ton of the lemonade. I used to drink crystal light but when I made the switch to stevia, I found that pre-sweetened mixes with stevia were scarce in stores and the few at Whole Food were outrageous! I stock up and buy 25 lemonades at a time when I see the sale. Honestly, they seem to have this sale almost monthly but as an SDer, I am allergic to paying shipping, even 3 bucks. I can only tolerate it every couple of months.

hope777believe 10-10-2012 06:44 PM

I LOVE this product. I bought the Lemon shaker and the 100 ct. Lime the last time they did this half-price deal.

I now add a packet of Lime to sparkling water to replace when I use to drink a Coke. So, it's a much healthier option and delicious. I LOVE the lime.

I bought the shaker to use in cooking, baking, in salads, on sliced fruit (like apples) to keep them from turning brown and much more.

This product is ALL NATURAL and definitely worth it, especially on this half-price deal. The product is real crystallized lime, lemon or orange. DELICIOUS!!!!

Thanks great idea with the lemon on apples---never thought about that with this product. Completely makes sense. Although not sure if the kids would eat it with the lemon on it.

We are huge fans of all the flavors except orange which has a sort of off scent to me.

Just FYI, they seem to do this 50% off deal all the time on a slightly different selection of products, so no need to stock up like crazy :)

Are there any sweeteners in the lemon at all? Being in texas I make iced tea regularly and use fresh lemons. Sometimes i'm out of lemons so this might be a good substitute. Anyone done this and compared it to fresh squeezed lemons in iced tea?

Buying 5 shakers is still cheaper than buying the 500ct of packets, but only slightly. Buying 1 shaker is far more of a savings than buying the 100ct packets. However, you pay for convenience and portability with the packets.

Looks like the shaker contains a different filler (maltodextrin) so can't exactly compare by weight.

The packets contain evaporated cane sugar instead of maltodextrin.

Personally, maltodextrin gives me stomach cramps so it's a good thing I found this out before ordering.

So I am guessing the packets are not exactly 0 carb if they contain evaporated cane sugar right? I know if its less than like .5 the can say 0, but if you are consuming a bunch of packets a day then it could add up. I know I sound crazy but I am on a low carb diet and everything counts. rep'd for the info I couldn't find anything on the website.

4bidden450 10-11-2012 12:38 AM

Never heard of this either, but one of the reviews talked about using it for a chipotle lime dry rub for BBQ, so I'm in! Curious how it'll turn out in the smoker.

Each packet is a 1g with two constituents: (1) crystallized lemon and (2) evaporated cane sugar

All that we can gather from that information is that there is at least 50.1% crystallized lemon (about 0.5g) in each packet. That means there could be up to 49.9% evaporated cane sugar (about 0.5g).

Of course there the ratio could also be 80:20 instead of 50:50. There's no way of telling, unfortunately.

However, keep in mind that "lemon juice" (a constituent of crystallized lemon) also has carbohydrates in it. Each packet actually claims <1g Carbohydrates (i.e. not 0g). You're probably safe unless you're downing 10+ a day.

dontmess26 10-11-2012 12:47 AM

According to this site [about.com], each packet is .7 grams x 500 = 350grams or 12.35oz.
So 500 packets = $16.50 and same amount in shaker (4 shakers) is about $12, which includes fillers, 500 count seems like a good deal.

Lets hope they are not too good so can I keep to 1-2 packets a day. Having a hard time drinking water lately and this seems much better than diet drinks.

And they are all natural, not just lemon-flavored sugar!

Yes, these are fabulous and taste just like fresh squeezed lemon/lime.

Schmitty 10-11-2012 04:15 AM

Bah, coupon is not taking for me when I enter it at checkout. I missed it, then went back to edit order and put it in. I even tried logging out and restarting, but it's still not taking for me. Oh well, I have enough lime and lemon to last me, but I wanted more true lemonade.

house kitten 10-11-2012 04:21 AM

I have bought at least 4 boxes (500 ct) of both the lemon and lime in the past year for my family. Yummy!!!! I use it for water, tea, cocktails (yup, mojitos), salsa, flavoring homemade applesauce, apple crsip, baked fish, keep apples from turning brown, glaucamole, BBQ sauce, rubs, greek dressing,.... etc. My favorite thing is to take chiken (either breasts or tenders) and apply a little EVOO and a packet or 2 of lemon, tiny bit of salt and pepper and grill. Yummmmyyy. I always make extra and use the chix for quesadilla, chicken salad.

Use these for anything requiring lemons/limes

Because even at 8:12am in the morning the prospect of lime rice something is making me hungry. In for one 100 pack OP, thanks!

Sounds like this stuff goes on sale relatively often enough. If it's as good as it sounds I'll be following up with a few more orders shortly. Seems very versatile!

This was very late at night drunken purchase the last time I saw it on SlickDeals and I love the stuff! You can cook with it, flavor drinks etc and it isn't unhealthy. If you're on the fence I definitely recommend trying it. I'd jump but I still have a ton of it left.

frogs123 10-11-2012 08:06 AM

For any avocado lovers out there, there is nothing I have found better for preserving the unused half (+ pit) in the fridge for later than the True Lime 2.85oz Shaker "crystallized lime". I've tried real limes, lime juice, lemon juice and the avocado would always still turn brown, even with a tight layer of plastic wrap pressed tight to the avocado flesh. Yet a thick sprinkled layer of the crystallized lime preserves it clear and un-oxidized for days (still need the plastic wrap of course). It must have something to do with the fact that the powder is dehydrated and exposure to the moisture in the avocado rehydrates it to the point it forms a perfect protective barrier. I did not notice any overpowering lime flavor either when I got around to eating it. Highly recommended!

I did the exact same thing with this stuff, no regrets. The 500ct lemon packets single-handedly got me unhooked from soda and energy drinks. Water, Arizona tea, juices, etc. couldn't do it. Every flavor I eventually get tired of, but lemon water is classic, and this stuff can really be had every day.

One word (or many) of caution: mix this stuff up thoroughly and let it sit for a while before drinking. Generally speaking, the longer it sits the better the packets dissolve, and the more flavor you're going to get out of it. And give it a stir after it's been sitting, because it tends to settle at the bottom of the glass. I feel like a lot of the negative reviews are because people try to instant-mix this stuff on the go, and get an acidy lemon-peel flavor that's not too attractive. Other than that, you're probably golden. Just understand that this isn't going to taste EXACTLY like lemon or lime, but it is pretty close.

SlackDealHunter 10-11-2012 08:13 AM

Seems that while they do not use 'chemicals' as in chemicals made from mineral oil, this is not just taking a lemon, pressing it out and crystalizing it.
Quote from their FAQs at http://www.truelemon.com/faqs.html:

I read reviews on the orange and they didn't look great. Maybe it has something to do with people not usually squeezing orange wedges into their water. I can probably guarantee that it won't taste like orange juice, in the same way that the lemon packets don't make your water taste like lemonade. Might be good for cooking or flavoring foods though.

LiquidRetro 10-11-2012 09:05 AM

I should try this, the decision is really lemon or lime. I like lime in water but lemon seems to be more versatile for cooking?

hoogax 10-11-2012 09:05 AM

Any feedback between the True Lemon and the True Lemonade? We got the True Lemonade a month or so ago and it is awesome, but I haven't tried the Lemon one. I see the Lemonade is 5 calories vs the Lemon is 0 calories, but beyond that I'm not sure what the difference is or how they compare.

The packets are for drinks and the shaker is for food/cooking. Different formula and measurements. You can use the packets for cooking but not so much the other way around. The shaker doesn't make nice drinks.

I use one packet of lemon or grapefruit to a glass of water with one packet of Splenda or a half packet of Stevia. Makes a great light lemonade/grapefruitade. Bought a smaller grapefruit one because of the rave reviews and was not disappointed, ordered a 500 count pack when it went on sale again.
