I've been looking for a good deal on a sturdy, trustworthy basic tripod - so I'd love to hear suggestions from members for something in this price range.

Amazon has the tripod only for $120.

Saw this at Costco yesterday the tripod is pretty heavy.

I was surprised to see this at my local Costco a few weeks ago and bought it.. It is a nice and sturdy tripod.
The only issue is the carry bag, it doesn't really fit the tripod (search the internet, you'll find the same complain from the reviews).
But overall, it's worth $150 for a great tripod.

And holy cow it is heavy! But it feels strudy. I'm not sure I like the head it comes with. But I'm pretty sure this won't go on any of my overseas trips. Only occasional use for day trips when I have a car to haul it.

Went to costco and noticed it's $15 off! On sale for $135!

I wonder if this deal can be combined with the current rebates of $25 and $10. With the current price of $135 this could be had for $100. That would be pretty insane. I'm debating of selling the tripod I have for this...

Great Idea! I just went to the Manfrotto site and I think that we are out of luck (I bought one of these myself). Here is what the rebate form says (emphasis added):

"This offer excludes National Geographic Tripods and heads, CompactSer ies, 390 Series, 290 Aluminum Series, MY Series and Monopods."

Since this is a 290 series aluminum, I don't think it will work.

Here is a link to their website:

I bought this tripod yesterday at Costco for $129. The only problem I have with it is that you can't fit the tripod in the bag without removing the handles. Strange that they would sell this with it. I'm debating to see if I can overlook this since I actually like the tripod itself.

Yeah, that's pretty much normal for this type of head. As for the price, I think, Costco will drop it even further as the tripod doesn't seem to sell well; at my Costco they sold only probably a couple judging by the empty slots.

This is probably better than the carbon fiber sunpak ball head pistol grip one Costco carried for a while, right? I have that one but its sad that the pistol grip can't support my camera, battery grip....AND flash..... So I have to shorten one leg to get it on portrait mode.................

It's quite a bit lighter than the new manfrotto one....I think I'm gonna exchange mine tomorrow

To anyone who has been comparing this tripod with others such as links to Amazon...do not include a head. You have to buy the head separately. THIS ONE from Costco includes a head... AND as someone said an extra quick release plate. Not to mention the very heavy and durable case. Yes... it's a "soft" case... but it's a heavy, thick nylon.

AND... as of yesterday. Costco marked it down to $99.97 with an asterisk noted on the price. The "7" in the price, and the asterisk means it's clearance and the last time the price is going down.
