bummer!

From the rebate page:

Offer does not apply to purchases of refurbished or used products nor for a camera and printer packaged together and sold for one price
In my order confirmation email, this is a packaged deal with one price. So Canon will deny the rebate claim. I wonder what B&H will say to all of us then.

I hope this dude is right.

This is the same as the previous (package) deal. See here for the responses from HenryP (B&H employee) when the invoice/rebate was discussed: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3272804
Canon and B&H have this deal put together so don't worry.

I bought this bundle one or two months ago and the rebate has been approved as shown on the website. So, no need to worry about the rebate's eligibility.

To everyone wondering about cashing out with the gift cards, just go to square.com and get a free card reader. I do it every time with these rebates. you lose 2.5% on the conversion but you get CASH in your bank account the day after you swipe it.

makeitslickER 10-19-2012 07:27 AM

dang it!! Price went down by $6.
I am gonna return the whole package today via Fedex overnight and I am coming for this!!

powerslave12r 10-19-2012 07:28 AM

Ridiculously good deal for anyone willing to fight the rebate fight. Repped.

jjslegacy 10-19-2012 07:36 AM

I have been waiting to pull the trigger but might not be able to pass this one up

preppyak 10-19-2012 07:37 AM

Yep, they added in the bag and the memory card over their previous deal, which is nice.

minghi 10-19-2012 07:39 AM

man, these prices keep falling like rocks

plankalkul 10-19-2012 07:42 AM

I absolutely love this war going on between Nikon and Canon.

I'm in the market for a full frame, and am hoping this all continues up to Black Friday.

+1 and repped, this is an awesome deal

iMaverick 10-19-2012 07:43 AM

Good deal

selective 10-19-2012 07:43 AM

the price drops remind me of ludacris's song....how low can you go... :P

matthewsjl 10-19-2012 07:48 AM

Memory card was in the previous deal. Camera bag is new......

Rebate is legit & solid. I've done the rebate a few times on different deals and as long as you can stand the rebate timeframes you are good. If you need a cushion then there is always the "Bill Me Later" option that is a no-payment deal.....

John.

In the exact same boat. Looking for a starter slr and am hoping that these kits go for around 400-500 come BF!!

DocMo 10-19-2012 07:49 AM

And it's on! Got in on the Amazon one and ended up springing an extra $50 or so for the bag. Having a bag in the deal makes it NICE.

iMaverick 10-19-2012 07:49 AM

Have it in the cart.... but am still undecided if to go with this.... or the Sony NEX-5N.... have been a P&S guy till date....
Any suggestions?

Interex 10-19-2012 07:50 AM

Damn, this is tempting...

I assume I can get 5% Discover Cash Back on this as well?

iMaverick 10-19-2012 07:57 AM

Do we get citicards 5% cashback for bhphotovideo.com ?

Or is it only for B&M stores?

PlatinumX 10-19-2012 07:58 AM

I was able to resist the Amazon deal last week even after coming dangerously close to clicking Checkout....I don't know if I can resist this time

Should be able to, the promo doesn't specify which online stores it will work at. The only restriction seems to be a total of $1,500 purchases would be eligible for 5%

Thanks, that's what I figured.

I ended up pulling the trigger! This deal is just too good to pass up. I've been waiting for the right deal to come around to replace my old 8MP Rebel XT.

Thanks OP!

glee719 10-19-2012 08:27 AM

The problem with these deals is that I had 4 printers taking up space in my garage! These printers aren't even worth their toner cartridges in the resell market.

Anomie 10-19-2012 08:30 AM

I assume I'd also be paying tax on 1000, I don't need the printer and doubt I can resell it for 50 dollars, but if the rebate came through it would mean an extra lens, bag, and memory card...

Is the rebate dept same as the amazon?

ElectroWolf 10-19-2012 08:38 AM

Damnit! My vehicle just died the other day, and I need to buy a new one. And then you come and show me this? I've been waiting for awhile, and missed out on the Amazon deal. So I HAD to buy!

Dear wallet, I'm sorry...........

Thanks OP. Rep'd!

thend111 10-19-2012 08:38 AM

great deal! thanks op!

i have participated in august's 400 rebate promo. may i do it again?

abstraxion 10-19-2012 08:42 AM

This is basically a no-risk deal - the camera is currently trading in at Amazon for $499 in perfect condition (which this would obviously be), the lens can be traded in for $71 (though you could eBay it for more) - now you're at +$30 which is definitely worth it for 50 sheets of huge paper, a great pro quality printer, a bag, and an SDHC card.

scotthall3411 10-19-2012 08:43 AM

It is $250 at staples AR for just the body and kit lens.

http://www.staples.com/Canon-EOS-...uct_927346

seems like it could be a better deal if you could get a 15% off in store coupon to work or a 25 off 75?

ebolaboi 10-19-2012 08:43 AM

Meh. A 400 dollar gift card??! No check? I want to throw that 400 back into my checking account. Rather than spacing it on on purchases. Can you even pay bills with that card?

loko-moko 10-19-2012 08:44 AM

Was going to go with the T4i but decided on this deal instead. Thanks!

It doesn't seem too hard to sell this printer on eBay for $60-$80. Tax depends on where you live...I'm in Cali and there seems to be no tax for me. :look:

LOL my girlfriend just got me the t3i with 18-55 and 75-300 lenses for $760, so I am definitely making her return it for this. I shook my head when she told me how much she paid for it. Damn noob. :D

In for one OP! Thanks!

dandanxuehua 10-19-2012 08:47 AM

Does anyone know if I can get this $400 rebate if I have already submitted the Amazon one? It says "limit one per household", but I am not sure whether they consider "B&H" and "Amazon" rebate on these cameras to be the same one...

Wish beach camera has one like this in ebay today !! :D

ugadawgs311 10-19-2012 08:53 AM

Got a deal very similar to this about 2 months ago off of Amazon for $689. I thought it was a steal when I got it. Wish I would have held out. I didn't know all these T3i deals were going to pop up.

FWIW, it is a great camera. It's my first SLR and I really enjoy it. It's a great stepping stone if you're looking to move up in quality from point and shoot cameras.

Also, if this is the same rebate that I used, my rebate was processed without problems. Took about 4 weeks for it to show up online after I mailed it, but the payment has been approved.

manbeing 10-19-2012 09:02 AM

Buyers alert: it is very very very difficult to sell that damn printer now. Millions are being posted on ebay and craigslist. I have posted the ad on ebay and craigslist with a extreme low price for over three weeks. No one interested in it at all except spams.

But isn't $290 odd after the $400 rebate with the printer a good deal at staples? I mean, this deal includes a 55-250 lens, camera bag and sd card for an extra $250-$300 bucks?

It is more expensive at Staples without the 2nd lense, bag, etc.

The camera is $649.99 at Staples before $400 rebate. But the $650 does NOT include the $400 printer you need to buy to get the $400 rebate.

So it is still $650 at Staples and lacks the 2nd lens, bag, sd.

qqluck 10-19-2012 09:11 AM

B&H is an AUTHORIZED dealer for Canon. Don't worry.

Zechs19 10-19-2012 09:11 AM

The Staples deal you have to buy that printer it ends up being more.

At this price, it would be fine to just use it :)

abstraxion 10-19-2012 09:12 AM

I needed a new set of inks for my Pro 9000 - looks like this is the cheapest way to do it! Unfortunately this isn't a solid money making deal for more than $50 or so... but it's DAMN slick if you intend to use of any of this stuff.

I wonder if there is anyone who would actually use this printer?
Is it a total pile of crap or what?

EDIT: HOLY HELL: Look at this list for sale on SF Bay Area craigslist:

I called Canon, they said the rebate B&H's package is valid, and there should be no issue.
The B&H rep looked at the list, and was confused. He also noticed the C&H company, but looked them up and found they are an actual B&M storefront.

Even still, I bit.

One time they refunded me the amount of a denied rebate claim....:D

I am in your boat as well...have everything in the cart a.ready registered on B&H and almost ready to hit the button to submit the order...but wonder what black friday has in for us...may be T4i at this price...which has touch screen and video shooting capability which T3i does...

Any thoughts....

i guess you are right...thats kind of crappy marketing. it looks like the rebate is -$400 with purchase of the printer and camera, it doesn't show the bundle price I guess.

How is the video on this camera? I looked up some examples on youtube that were pretty solid but i'm looking at how well it will capture a little kid running around.

my d7000 has this horrible focus motor noise, to the point where I never use it for video.

i guess you are right...thats kind of crappy marketing. it looks like the rebate is -$400 with purchase of the printer and camera, it doesn't show the bundle price I guess.

How is the video on this camera? I looked up some examples on youtube that were pretty solid but i'm looking at how well it will capture a little kid running around.

my d7000 has this horrible focus motor noise, to the point where I never use it for video.

all dslrs are like that.
you have to use external audio, and manual focus.

the sony's are better, but still kinda suck.

yamy 10-19-2012 09:27 AM

Mission impossible to sell this printer at a "OK" price. Searched ebay and people offering to ship it at $50 or $60......Isn't shipping like $40 for this huge machine????

I think I tried once and it didn't work out too well.

The problem with ordering online or paying bills with the AMEX gift card is having a verifiable billing address registered to the card.

Visa used to allow registering the card to a billing address, not sure if AMEX will.

Once again, COSTCO FTW!
I look at this as getting a $400 Costco cash card with AMEX written on it.

AM i missing something? I know you don't get the lense, paper, SD card & Beg but it would be $150 cheaper?

You missed that you cannot combine the $200 rebate shown on that listing with the DSLR+Printer $400 rebate, so the price of the printer is still actually $399.99

You are doubling up on rebates. There is a $200 rebate to get the $199 price for the printer. I do not believe you can use this AND the $400 rebate

Need expert opinion: Do you think if one should wait until Black Friday if you are on a fence to get a DSLR or jump on this deal?

jmccomas85 10-19-2012 09:41 AM

I was up till 1am last night researching DSLR's, and decided on the T2i or T3i - depending which was cheaper. I came home today and saw this. The extra lens, the memory card, and the printer that supports 11x14 paper seals the deal.

Rebate is different for each store. You can do it for each store once per quarter.

I dont think the prices on a T4i bundle will get to this level this year, especially when you consider this comes with a NICE bag, Top of the line Class 10 SDHC card, 55-250mm lens
a $400 printer (debatable what with the craigslist GLUT...)
...and printer paper.

Interex 10-19-2012 09:53 AM

What gives with people passing up on a $400 Amex GC? Surely paying bills isn't the only thing you spend money on. I can't think of a single large retailer that doesn't take Amex. Gas stations? Groceries? Fast food? Restaurants? Department stores? Do all of you live in po-dunk, 1 traffic light towns where nobody takes Amex cards?

No, this is inaccurate. The T4i doesn't have motor noise in the video if you use the right lens and it does do auto focus for video.

There was a recent article on BF and it stated that BF prices were not the best in comparison with other sales during the year. I am not sure if they compared cameras.

I just received a rebate card last week. Called the number asked about a check. I explained that I had read that I could request a cash out of the card. The rep put me on hold for a few minutes, asked me why I could not use the card. I explained that I did not do very much shopping and the card was not useful for me. She then asked to verify my mailing address, and said the check would be on its way. Another 4 weeks, but still better than the card for me

NOPE. LA. It seems more of a hassle to be using that card everywhere. Probably at places one shouldn't be wasting money at. I'd rather get a check and deposit it back into my account.

Or you can use the card to pay for the next dslr+printer deal... how ironic... it's like $&@*%ing somebody with their own &$%#@.

ONEchance 10-19-2012 10:31 AM

Just went for it. Buy now, think later mentality.

Going to give AMEX a call to see if I can get a check instead of the card.....

needgeech 10-19-2012 10:33 AM

It's a rebate gift card. Get over it. Most people can find ways to use it to pay for food, gas, etc. etc. If you want to bitch about something, try aiming it towards the 4-8 weeks it will take you to get ANYTHING back.

If you need to put the money back into your account, buy a money maker item with it, sell it, then deposit the proceeds.

Or buy discounted gift cards (cardpooool etc) to the places you frequent and save 5-25% while shopping there.

Or find a deal without a card rebate.

Is the $1000 pricetag for the bundle the regular price? If so, and the rebate is valid for purchases til the end of the year, whats the push to jump on this rather than wait for BF prices? I just moved to an area where a good camera is really a must, but still not sure i'm ready to drop $1k on it.

Good Point. However, I think that $1000 is their discounted price. So they can always jack up the price more than $1000 and then the kit wouldn't be as cheap anymore. As with anything, this is a gamble :)

Dont know if new or trolling.....

BF has no gaurantees on anything, ESPECIALLY stock levels, combined with psychos and tramplings...

An SLR in auto mode is kind of a waste of money. It doesn't take that long to figure out the other modes. This is a very very quick and dirty beginner guide without teaching you metering (keep metering on matrix mode until you learn how). Shutter priority should help with kids running around. Aperture priority to blur backgrounds for portraits.

Aperture Priority-- Smaller the Aperture number the brighter the image is and the more blurred the background is (smaller number actually makes the aperture bigger). Set's shutter speed and ISO for you.

Shutter priority-- The higher the shutter speed the better it will stop action, but the darker the image. Sets Aperture and ISO for you.

If the resulting image is too dark, increase exposure compensation in .5 increments until it looks right. Opposite for too bright an image.

If you want to learn to use an SLR as a beginner.

Read these [cambridgeincolour.com]and watch this [photoshopcafe.com]

You also might be better off with a Sony NEX-3 or 5 which have lots of guide modes for beginners.

pauladams11 10-19-2012 10:47 AM

The last time I got this rebate, we just used the rebate-card to buy four $100 Walmart gift cards (since with three young eaters in our house, we burn through $400 worth of groceries pretty fast). No worries about expiring cards, service fees, etc.

I love when people buy 5D or 7D's cuz they think they will make them get a feature exhibit in the Smithsonian, then they never learn to use it.
These are the same people who drive a Maserati ONLY to get groceries.

Actually just got a great idea. Since the holidays are coming up, use the rebate card to buy other store's GCs and give out those GCs as presents. Recently read an article that females now prefer GCs anyways haha.

If all you want to do is shoot auto, you do not want to spend the money on a DSLR. You want something less expensive and smaller to carry around more easily.

Good advice, but I'm still of the opinion that a DSLR would be more expensive overkill for a busy parent of 3 little kids who only wants to shoot auto.

printer selling tip
sell seperately the ink and printer.
ink is cli-8 complete full set and can be sold for $70 fairly easy.
printer without ink can be sold for $80-$120 since some people don't have problem using $10 generic inks.
if you want to seperate even further, the adobe element 8 for mac and pc can be sold for $15-20 each as well.

A lot of people have been posting how difficult it is to sell the printer at $120, but a printer without ink, software, and no longer factory sealed? How many have had success doing this?

on amazon, ive sold it for $120 after considering shipping
prices might have dropped some since two month ago
but you can still get the $70 for the ink easy.

That is such a deceiving advertisement from Staples. If you click on T3 page it says $99 price after $400 rebate. Then you click on Pro9000 page and it says $199 after $200 rebate. A regular consumer would def fall into their trap, but true SDer knows about such caveats. Still, sucks that they deceive like that :(

I almost got excited about $99 T3 with lenses.

cgcg97 10-19-2012 11:40 AM

Finally going to bite on this one. Since I am replacing an EOS XS with those exact lenses and can pretty much get this for around $100 on this deal after I sell my old camera with lenses and the printer

sell seperately the ink and printer.
ink is cli-8 complete full set and can be sold for $70 fairly easy.
printer without ink can be sold for $80-$120 since some people don't have problem using $10 generic inks.
if you want to seperate even further, the adobe element 8 for mac and pc can be sold for $15-20 each as well.

I sold 2 printers in the past 3 weeks (sealed box) and got $100 each. I am in St Louis. I had these listed for $125 for sometime and not a single response. Dropped the price and got 4 responses in a single day.
I would be very careful opening the box and selling the ink and printer separately - it's twice the effort to sell and I doubt anyone would pay $80 for a printer with no ink cart!

Once again, COSTCO FTW!
I look at this as getting a $400 Costco cash card with AMEX written on it.

Supposedly if you call, you can register the card for use online, however the two times I called I could never get a rep on the line to do this. I do not see a way to use it online. I decided to just use it for gas (set amount charged INSIDE), grocery store, and shopping at B&M stores. In just 6 transactions, already down to $60. This is in just over 45 days. I would have used it up sooner, except it was sitting in my wife's wallet for a few weeks.

Dont know if new or trolling.....

BF has no gaurantees on anything, ESPECIALLY stock levels, combined with psychos and tramplings...
I'll gladly have this rebate processing before the holiday surge, and never have to leave the comfort of my house to fight off wolves at 4AM on a cold friday morning.

The Grey anyone? LOL

Not trolling...was an honest question if you could get this deal til the end of the year. And wow they was $133 for ground shipping to Alaska...nevermind.

abstraxion 10-19-2012 12:01 PM

Target, Walmart, Amazon, all major gas stations, and Costco/Sam's Club take AMEX - that would be good enough right there if they were the only retailers that accepted them.

Don't let the low price fool you - this is an AWESOME printer that is one step down from true pro-grade inkjet. The ink ALONE costs over $100, and the printer head can go out too.

chinnaly 10-19-2012 12:02 PM

I bought the Canon T3 + 2 lenses with Pixma printer package yesterday for $280 after rebate and ebay bucks. I should have waited for this.

Not really. YMMV usually involves whether it's clearance in the store and you might not find it in stock, if you must deal with a CSR to price match / override, etc. Just because it's a rebate doesn't mean it's YMMV. If you submit the rebate properly, there should be no problem in the final price.

T3i vs T4i

Debating between this deal now or a T4i around BF when it is (hopefully) a little cheaper than the current asking price...

The main differences between the two appears to be DIGIC 4 vs 5; Better ISO in T4i; better video in T4i?

This would be my first DSLR but interested in making it a career in the future.

Basically I'm just not sure if I should wait a little longer and hope that the T4i comes down a little more in price (or they throw another lens in the package) or to buy this now.... Thank so much in advance!

kcaj32 10-19-2012 12:29 PM

I ordered the T4i deal from amazon last week.
If I order this too from B&H, can I do one rebate to my address and the second rebate to my sister's address?
What if both orders were paid with the same card and shipped to my address?

Because if they buy it off ebay from the morons on slickdeals, it won't come with a warranty and if it breaks they're screwed because they won't repair it unless it was purchased from an authorized dealer.

No point waiting for BF, camera deals aren't much better (if at all) on BF. Plus depending on where you live, you may be dodging tax through B&H like I am.

Your analogy blows. You need to compare apples to apples. That's like me saying: I guess BMW is superior to Mercedes-Benz especially M5 compared to the C300.

...okay maybe that one was a tad extreme, but you get the point. The D7000 retails for $1200 and the t3i retails for $700 (both body only).

For those doubting the rebate, see this thread: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3272804

HenryP is a well known B&H employee that posts over there regularly. The thread above relates to the previous B&H deal - but the same terms and rebate style apply.

Bottom line: there isn't a problem with the way B&H provides or itemizes the invoice for the rebate.

Uh... What?

18MP is way old? Granted, 18MP consumer-level SLRs have been out for a few years now, but it's still a pretty high count for most people, and higher than the count offered in similarly priced cameras from Nikon and others.

What other SLRs are out there in this price range that have significantly higher resolution? The professional Canon EOS-5D Mark III is 22MP, and that came out only about six months ago. It also sells for $3500 just for the body.

OK, maybe Canon will bump the T5i up to 24MP (as they were rumored to be doing for the T4i before the bubble was burst), but we're a while away from that release.

And my old 8MP Rebel XT still takes stunning pictures.

Laveli 10-19-2012 06:33 PM

So after being approved for the rebate, canon claims they sent my amex reward card, but i never received it.

Has this happened to anyone?

Maybe, there are conflicting reports. Most people say it is good-to-go with different retailers/different department #'s, but I've seen a couple say they may deny it if it is the same camera (maybe inexperienced CSRs giving out bad information). If you are getting a T3 and T3i I'd presume you are safe.

I don't think it matters if it's the same camera or not. The fact is that it's the same rebate, different camera or not. That's all that matters. The only sticking point is whether a different retailer constitutes a different offer and rebate. The reports are conflicting as has been said. Some CS reps have said you can do it. But that is a pretty unique concept in the world of rebates. And rebate reps have often enough been flat out wrong. And so it's a YMMV gamble.

Mine was also through the Amazon deal, shows Canon received my rebate on 8/24 according to their website. I am not sure when it was approved, I believe around mid September. Few of my buddies got the same deal and submitted the same time they all received their amex card about a week ago.

So i guess there is still time to wait? When i called Canon they said each rebate has 60 day window. If you have not received it by 10/24 give us a call back.

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer to that. If you take two comparable cameras from each brand (i.e. D5100 and t3i), they will be very similar all around and it will come down to the couple small areas where one might be superior over the other, brand loyalty, and personal preference in terms of weight/looks/build. For example, some people like the feeling of a larger, heavier SLR (t3i) while others may like the slightly more compact and lighter feel (D5100), yet both are build extremely well. Your decision may even come down to which brand your friends have. For example, more of my friends own Nikons so if I bought a Nikon, it would be easy for me to trade lenses with friends just to play with different types. However, since I'm just starting to get into photography and since I've been a Canon whore my whole life, I decided to go with the t3i.

Check out this review, I think it breaks down the above two cameras pretty well:

To be more fair though, it was $410, not $400 =)
And also, during the time of that posting, a lot of people were unsure whether or not aSavings was a reputable seller to get that big rebate from. It was risky at the time, unlike this B&H deal.

$189 difference for extra 55-250mm lens. Not much of a difference... I think you can get more than $150 on Craigslist for a brand new 55-250mm lens.

I think I tried once and it didn't work out too well.

I just got off the phone with AE gift card guy he said that if you call them and register your card (by giving them your name and address) than you can use it to pay bills. I even asked like heating and energy bills he said anything that you can buy or pay for over the phone or internet would work. So I am guessing as long as you don't buy this with an AE card you can apply the rebate right back into your credit card bill or pay something else with it.
