The problem with these deals is that I had 4 printers taking up space in my garage! These printers aren't even worth their toner cartridges in the resell market.

I assume I'd also be paying tax on 1000, I don't need the printer and doubt I can resell it for 50 dollars, but if the rebate came through it would mean an extra lens, bag, and memory card...

Got a deal very similar to this about 2 months ago off of Amazon for $689. I thought it was a steal when I got it. Wish I would have held out. I didn't know all these T3i deals were going to pop up.

FWIW, it is a great camera. It's my first SLR and I really enjoy it. It's a great stepping stone if you're looking to move up in quality from point and shoot cameras.

Also, if this is the same rebate that I used, my rebate was processed without problems. Took about 4 weeks for it to show up online after I mailed it, but the payment has been approved.

The problem with ordering online or paying bills with the AMEX gift card is having a verifiable billing address registered to the card.

Visa used to allow registering the card to a billing address, not sure if AMEX will.

Rebate is different for each store. You can do it for each store once per quarter.

What gives with people passing up on a $400 Amex GC? Surely paying bills isn't the only thing you spend money on. I can't think of a single large retailer that doesn't take Amex. Gas stations? Shouldn't be "hard to use" at all. Lots of places still accept AMEX, including Amazon, Grocery stores (which also sell gift cards), gas stations, etc.

No, this is inaccurate. The T4i doesn't have motor noise in the video if you use the right lens and it does do auto focus for video.
$400 at costco = 4 (or less) tanks of gas.

There was a recent article on BF and it stated that BF prices were not the best in comparison with other sales during the year. I am not sure if they compared cameras.

I sold a Pro 9000 on a MKII deal ~2 weeks ago. I listed it BIN at $135 plus calculated shipping and it was gone within 24 hours. I feel lucky and my rebate just passed audit.

It's a rebate gift card. Get over it. Most people can find ways to use it to pay for food, gas, etc. etc. If you want to bitch about something, try aiming it towards the 4-8 weeks it will take you to get ANYTHING back.

If you need to put the money back into your account, buy a money maker item with it, sell it, then deposit the proceeds.

Or buy discounted gift cards (cardpooool etc) to the places you frequent and save 5-25% while shopping there.

Or find a deal without a card rebate.

An SLR in auto mode is kind of a waste of money. It doesn't take that long to figure out the other modes. This is a very very quick and dirty beginner guide without teaching you metering (keep metering on matrix mode until you learn how). Shutter priority should help with kids running around. Aperture priority to blur backgrounds for portraits.

Aperture Priority-- Smaller the Aperture number the brighter the image is and the more blurred the background is (smaller number actually makes the aperture bigger). Set's shutter speed and ISO for you.

Shutter priority-- The higher the shutter speed the better it will stop action, but the darker the image. Sets Aperture and ISO for you.

If the resulting image is too dark, increase exposure compensation in .5 increments until it looks right. Opposite for too bright an image.

If you want to learn to use an SLR as a beginner.

You also might be better off with a Sony NEX-3 or 5 which have lots of guide modes for beginners.

The last time I got this rebate, we just used the rebate-card to buy four $100 Walmart gift cards (since with three young eaters in our house, we burn through $400 worth of groceries pretty fast). No worries about expiring cards, service fees, etc.

If all you want to do is shoot auto, you do not want to spend the money on a DSLR. You want something less expensive and smaller to carry around more easily.
Good advice, but I'm still of the opinion that a DSLR would be more expensive overkill for a busy parent of 3 little kids who only wants to shoot auto.

sell seperately the ink and printer.
ink is cli-8 complete full set and can be sold for $70 fairly easy.
printer without ink can be sold for $80-$120 since some people don't have problem using $10 generic inks.
if you want to seperate even further, the adobe element 8 for mac and pc can be sold for $15-20 each as well.

A lot of people have been posting how difficult it is to sell the printer at $120, but a printer without ink, software, and no longer factory sealed? How many have had success doing this?

That is such a deceiving advertisement from Staples. If you click on T3 page it says $99 price after $400 rebate. Then you click on Pro9000 page and it says $199 after $200 rebate. A regular consumer would def fall into their trap, but true SDer knows about such caveats. Still, sucks that they deceive like that :(

I would be very careful opening the box and selling the ink and printer separately - it's twice the effort to sell and I doubt anyone would pay $80 for a printer with no ink cart!

Supposedly if you call, you can register the card for use online, however the two times I called I could never get a rep on the line to do this. I do not see a way to use it online. I decided to just use it for gas (set amount charged INSIDE), grocery store, and shopping at B&M stores. In just 6 transactions, already down to $60. This is in just over 45 days. I would have used it up sooner, except it was sitting in my wife's wallet for a few weeks.

Not trolling...was an honest question if you could get this deal til the end of the year. And wow they was $133 for ground shipping to Alaska...nevermind.

Target, Walmart, Amazon, all major gas stations, and Costco/Sam's Club take AMEX - that would be good enough right there if they were the only retailers that accepted them.

Not really. YMMV usually involves whether it's clearance in the store and you might not find it in stock, if you must deal with a CSR to price match / override, etc. Just because it's a rebate doesn't mean it's YMMV. If you submit the rebate properly, there should be no problem in the final price.

The main differences between the two appears to be DIGIC 4 vs 5; Better ISO in T4i; better video in T4i?

I contacted B&H with the invoice issue. I don't think we can expect a reply before early next week but I wouldn't worry about it.

wow! so tempting should I wait for BF deal on Nikon or get this one decision decision.
I guess Nikon are superior than Canon specially Nikon D7000 compare to this one.

No point waiting for BF, camera deals aren't much better (if at all) on BF. Plus depending on where you live, you may be dodging tax through B&H like I am.

Your analogy blows. You need to compare apples to apples. That's like me saying: I guess BMW is superior to Mercedes-Benz especially M5 compared to the C300.

...okay maybe that one was a tad extreme, but you get the point. The D7000 retails for $1200 and the t3i retails for $700 (both body only).

I guess this will force some of you undecided folks to sleep on it.

HenryP is a well known B&H employee that posts over there regularly. The thread above relates to the previous B&H deal - but the same terms and rebate style apply.

Bottom line: there isn't a problem with the way B&H provides or itemizes the invoice for the rebate.

Yes, I got your point, still, I saw online sites which compares SLR cameras comparing the above two cameras, but of course huge difference in prices.
Apart from that I was asking in general which cameras are superior in quality and build, Nikon or Canon, I have never used Canon cameras before?

I didn't know cameras are now rated by megapixels. Do you really need more than 18MP?

18MP is way old? Granted, 18MP consumer-level SLRs have been out for a few years now, but it's still a pretty high count for most people, and higher than the count offered in similarly priced cameras from Nikon and others.

What other SLRs are out there in this price range that have significantly higher resolution? The professional Canon EOS-5D Mark III is 22MP, and that came out only about six months ago. It also sells for $3500 just for the body.

OK, maybe Canon will bump the T5i up to 24MP (as they were rumored to be doing for the T4i before the bubble was burst), but we're a while away from that release.

And my old 8MP Rebel XT still takes stunning pictures.

So after being approved for the rebate, canon claims they sent my amex reward card, but i never received it.

Has this happened to anyone?

I've bought a similar deal from AMAZON couple of weeks ago and submitted the rebate. Now I want to buy another one for my parents. Since they are NOT living in the US, I have to ship to my own address. Can I still get the $400 rebate? Thanks again for the input.

Maybe, there are conflicting reports. Most people say it is good-to-go with different retailers/different department #'s, but I've seen a couple say they may deny it if it is the same camera (maybe inexperienced CSRs giving out bad information). If you are getting a T3 and T3i I'd presume you are safe.

When?

I submitted rebate via certified mail in July for Amazon deal and I believe within a month received confirmation that it was accepted on website. I didn't receive card until the beginning of October.

I don't think it matters if it's the same camera or not. The fact is that it's the same rebate, different camera or not. That's all that matters. The only sticking point is whether a different retailer constitutes a different offer and rebate. The reports are conflicting as has been said. Some CS reps have said you can do it. But that is a pretty unique concept in the world of rebates. And rebate reps have often enough been flat out wrong. And so it's a YMMV gamble.

Mine was also through the Amazon deal, shows Canon received my rebate on 8/24 according to their website. I am not sure when it was approved, I believe around mid September. Few of my buddies got the same deal and submitted the same time they all received their amex card about a week ago.

So i guess there is still time to wait? When i called Canon they said each rebate has 60 day window. If you have not received it by 10/24 give us a call back.

I suppose so, if you were approved you shouldn't be worried :) Hopefully you receive it soon, but if it doesn't you shouldn't have a problem.

I don't think there's a right or wrong answer to that. If you take two comparable cameras from each brand (i.e. D5100 and t3i), they will be very similar all around and it will come down to the couple small areas where one might be superior over the other, brand loyalty, and personal preference in terms of weight/looks/build. For example, some people like the feeling of a larger, heavier SLR (t3i) while others may like the slightly more compact and lighter feel (D5100), yet both are build extremely well. Your decision may even come down to which brand your friends have. For example, more of my friends own Nikons so if I bought a Nikon, it would be easy for me to trade lenses with friends just to play with different types. However, since I'm just starting to get into photography and since I've been a Canon whore my whole life, I decided to go with the t3i.

And also, during the time of that posting, a lot of people were unsure whether or not aSavings was a reputable seller to get that big rebate from. It was risky at the time, unlike this B&H deal.

$189 difference for extra 55-250mm lens. Not much of a difference... I think you can get more than $150 on Craigslist for a brand new 55-250mm lens.

I just got off the phone with AE gift card guy he said that if you call them and register your card (by giving them your name and address) than you can use it to pay bills. I even asked like heating and energy bills he said anything that you can buy or pay for over the phone or internet would work. So I am guessing as long as you don't buy this with an AE card you can apply the rebate right back into your credit card bill or pay something else with it.
