Hello All,
I bought this and created a Win XP USB install drive using WinToFlash. My kids are using an old Foxconn FOXCONN NT-510 (Intel Atom D510 CPU and Intel GMA 3150 graphics), but they are constantly complaining about performance. Would this be any better? Obviously the graphics are, but not sure about the cpu

man so cheap now, i bought this a coupel months ago for $170 wiht a free agility 60gb

Either way, the main benefits of an Atom or Fusion system are the low power usage and small size. If neither of those features are important to you or you're kids, you might be better off spending a little more on a Sandy or Ivy Bridge dual-core Celeron based system. The G530 is a very popular low end chip for general use. Throw in a $15 AR budget GPU (HD 5450/6450 or Nvidia GT 520) and you'll have a much more powerful system for only ~$100 more than this one. Also, keep on eye on the Lenovo threads where you can often find refurb/scratch & dent systems with Celeron/Pentium/i3 chips for between $100-$200. Keep in mind that despite being "used", those are complete systems with a HDD and memory and OS which this deal skips. |
Now comes with the agility 3 SSD!
Wow, what a deal for an XBMC box!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao: K, I'm calmed now |
Quote:
I'd rather have the free SSD (plus $10 MIR) instead! :) |
Not sure why but I grabbed one.

It is now $110 (after rebate $10) with a 64GB OCZ SSD.
In for one. What the heck, I have extra ram lying around. |
bought one and picking it up tonight, Thanks!!

WOW!!! You just made my day. I was happy with the price, but for another $10 in rebate this make it even sweeter. Thanks for the reply, I thought the rebate was on the Barebones itself and not on the SSD drive. This machine will make a good nettop or HTPC. |

Ram + HDD I don't understand why people cannot run a HTPC set up with this. I have an old Dell Zino 400 (1.6 single core) and it streams 1080p over the network without any issues. Set this up correctly and you won't have any problems. I'm trying to decide if this enough for a MAME build. Would like to use at least an i3 3225 but this price is too tempting. |

Will this do 3D Bluray?
I want to replace my power hogging HTPC with something small. I watch Comcast HD using HD Homerun Prime and windows media center. And I play 3d blurays using powerdvd. I currently have amd phenom II x3 720. Graphics card is ATI 6450 (3d capable). |

For anyone considering this. This isn't going to be some sort of HTPC screamer.
I have (and owned) quite a few E-350 machines in various configurations (net-tops/laptops like Thinkpad X120e,etc). This is however, going to be a good general purpose computer. It will play 720p video in Linux. With optimize video in Windows, it will probably play higher quality. The thing it has going for it is USB 3, Gigabit and Wifi. Basically, you can make this into a great fileserver. A Proxy/Wifi security gateway firewall like untangle. Or general dickering around with Linux distros. The SSD is a added bonus. All you need is a laptop sodimm. This will be a perfectly fine net-top. If you don't want to play with Linux, get yourself a free Windows Server license in this thread.. (I did. I got 5 free legit license) And run yourself a Windows Server off it. http://slickdeals.net/f/5334878-M...-2012-more |

Are the LEDs very bright on this? I have a lot of movies I like to watch in my bedroom with the lights turned off. I watch it for maybe about 5 minutes, and then usually fall asleep. But then I usually wake up wanting to watch more, again for another 5 minutes.
Also, I have over 1000 videos (each about a few hundred megs and in 720p, 1080p) on my external hard drive. Will this stutter while watching those movies? Will this be able to switch from movie to movie fast (in case one movie gets boring) or does it have to buffer and crap? |

Been curious about these, and at $120 with a cheap 64GB SSD to throw into my DAW on top of the existing two for samples, this might be perfect for video in the bedroom where I'm setting up my Take 5 Classic set from earlier this week and my Optoma HD66. With the Take 5 at standard sale price of $150, this running as an HTPC streaming content from my server for $120, its just been too hard to say no, and considering I didn't really intend to have any sort of TV/Projector in my apartments bedroom at all I'm prettty pleased. Thanks OP.

will 2gb ddr3 enough? thanks

Time to learn Linux
|
I was looking at getting a G-box Dyno but the only ones that seem to be around are though ebay at around the same price. This has 4x the power and 4x the ram.
How does XMBCbuntu run on this ? I want 1080p/720p streaming and playing, via wifi, and netflix if possible (one of the reasons i dont want to run openelec. |
I really want to pull the trigger (this + openelec would make a nice media stream) but it just doesn't have the power for netflix and I don't want to lose that from my current box (boxee box.)
If netflix isn't important though, and you want a cheap/quiet/efficient media streamer this is a good deal. |
If you put windows 8 on this machine, the new netfljx app is gpu accelerated. I watch he netflix on my atom ion

My 40" LCD runs 1080 just fine with this box and this SSD streaming over a Gigabit network or with a usb OTA tuner... |
This thing looks like a Jack of most (not all) trades, master of none. Media players are cheaper. If you want to browse the internet on your TV when you're not watching movies... can't the Android USB stick thing do that and play 1080i content flawlessly for cheaper?
If you have a PS3 or media player already I don't know if this Foxconn warrants a purchase. I heard XBox was getting a browser, if it hasn't already...I haven't been on mine in 3+ months. If you're going to be watching 720p or 1080i content on an HTPC make sure it has the horsepower to multi-task if stuff starts running in the background. Stuttering movie watching ruins the movie watching experience. |
Great. In for one for my TV.

Now that this is OOS, can someone advise if this is a better product? I dont know if the Intel version is more powerful, able to stream HD video better, etc. and warrants the higher cost. But it also has the SSD promotion attached to it:

Foxconn CEO. Gou or something. An infamous racist. Shoud there be an ethical consideration even for slickdealers? I don't know but I ain't buying Foxconn unless it is really really cheap. This just falls short on such a criterion. The SSD is worth about 25 dollars or will be so by BF. That means the ITX setup is about 85 dollars. A good deal but not an earth-shaking one. If you don't need it right away wait till BF.
I have E-350 and it is slightly more powerful than Atom D510 and D525. It can do most multimedia fine but cannot do much else. |

A question for people who installed openelec and this barebone system.
1) Can you configure this device to boot off from the sd card slot? If so, can you install a hard drive with all your media on it? 2) Where can you buy a remote control with a usb dongle for it? Something like this would work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-Comput...3f1a5e Thanks. |

I'm praying to every conceivable god out there that no computer components go on sale on BF so people will stop telling everyone else to wait for prices on SSDs to drop. |
My Foxconn Intel Atom in same case is noisy...would be too noisy personally for an HTPC if this Foxconn is of same noise level. I also have a Zotac Intel Atom that's much quieter, but case is larger than the Foxconn.
|
What is the average price for prebuilt mini pc's like this that are good enough for 1080p mkv's ? I had no idea they are this cheap. I was planning on building my own, but have no interested anymore if they are around this price.

I got a few of these mini foxconn systems.
from Atom + nvidia platform (gets hot) to the E-350 platform. two issues with all the systems I had. 1) Fan on these units are "loud" and noticable when you have it on. 2) slow performance ... (more of a platform/cpu thing than Foxconn) yes Amd e-350 is faster than the crap atoms but for regular use you would still notice how slow it is compared to even an older Pentium D or intel Dual core Exxx series dual core CPU from 4 or 5 years ago. Unless you HAVE to have such a small unit. I would suggest getting something that have a better CPU. I have sold all of theses units (not that I used them in the first place just was such a good deal at SD for them at the time) I finally settled on a Shuttle XH61 barebone kit from a month ago from newegg ($180 for barebone kit + intel G620 CPU) and that seems the best compromise between - noise level - physical size - cpu and system performance - price (alittle high u can say but it's a quality kit) - expandability. (2.5" hd slot/slim dvdrw slot/2x ram slot) 4x SATA port + power connector |
anyone...is something like this good enough to run media center for a HD homerun prime with live tv watching?
thanks in advance |

If you want a great htpc this will fit the bill nicely for 99.9% of you. If you want a simple "Boxie Box" like experience where you don't see Linux, except with XBMC instead of Boxee then this, a stick of laptop RAM and OpenELEC (it's free) is all you need. Think of it in your head as an XBMC operating system with no technical knowledge needed. If you don't understand what I'm talking about go here http://xbmc.org/ OpenELEC has a build specifically for this APU.
