3rd gen Ipad aka the New Ipad is being discontinued and replaced by the Ipad 4th gen probably because Apps is trying to push the lightning connector.

Ipad Mini is basically an Ipad 2 specs wise but with upgraded wifi, camera's and a lightning connector in a smaller package. Same specs otherwise with its A5 processor and running the same resolution as well as the Ipad 2. No reason now to buy an Ipad 2 unless you want the full screen but then you are spending more money and getting worse wifi, camera's, and no lightning connector. but you get a bigger screen.

I disagree with you. The specs are still better on the NEW iPad than the iPad mini. Most people already got many accessories with the old dock pin so they can continue to enjoy their items for at least another 3 years.(Apple products usually last 3-5 years at least in my experience with them) Other than the dock connector this refurbed 3rd gene tablet is a better buy than the just released one, especially if you already invested in 30 pin dock accessories.
Also these refurbished tablets are new that's how Apple usually blows out there stock of discontinued items.:)

Yeah I would just get the new one. The faster cpu is worth it in conjunction with Retina screen. Then you get faster wi-fi - a small bonus, but a bonus.

And I believe it has a larger charger so it charges faster like the Ipad 2.

Useless Apple TV? I beg to differ. Wirelessly mirroring in HD from any tablet connected to the same network from anywhere in your home is quite extraordinary. Cables are completely obsolete.

With the ipad4 released, Apple will cut down the price of ipad 3 (new ipad) from $499 to $399 as usual. So basically the price $379 for refurb one is not a good deal right now.

The old "new ipad" aka ipad 3 is nolonger. It's been removed from the Apple website. I suspect these "refurbed" ipad 3s aren't refurbs. They are blowing them out as refurbs to get around the price fixing agreement they have with their distributors. Just like they did with the ipad 1 when it was cleared out.

Simple, the ipad 3 and the ipad 4 are too similar. Really, most people would never notice the difference. A lower price ipad 3 would hannibal the sales of the ipad 4. The ipad 2 won't. There's enough differentiation there that people will rationalize spending $100 more for the "new ipad".

I jumped on this deal because I have the iPad 1, and it's nearly unusable with the latest 5.x update. It's very slow, where even going into settings result in lag. iPhones are probably better supported, but the iPad 1 is truly obsolete at this point.

That's a good point. The deal I referenced is from best buy and the one year warantee is certainly worth extra money. I don't particularly think Apple refurbs are much if any better than most other refurbs though. And it was still a poor comparison trying to prop up a refurb new ipad price vs. a brand new gtab2 price to make the refurb price look better. I'm not pooing the deal though, I actually think it's a good one and if I were in the market for a new ipad, I'd probably jump on it.

Good deal; I have this and checked out the specs of the upcoming Ipad 4....No difference except for the connector cable and the camera but who uses the camera BTW.
I prefer using the old connector cable that is compatible with lots of accessories.

I bought my ipad 1 as a refurb and have had no problems with it. Just ordered the ipad 3 since the ipad 1 is obsolete as far as updates.

Agreed great deal. But there is a big difference. The A6 processor is quite a bit faster than the A5. I can only compare those two from personal experience. The A6x should be double the performance of the A5x based on Apple's statements and my personal experience with the non x derivatives.

That said, if I did not have an iPhone 5 (thus invested in lightning) I would be all over this deal.

The new A6 chip is 2x faster for both processing and graphics compared to IPad 3.

Android on tablets has the worst experience IMO but on phones it is a different story, likewise I won't buy IOS on a phone but IPad is a different story, from the 4:3 design, to the screen, the apps make it worth. For power computing I have got 2 laptops at home but for leisure browsing, apps and content - IPAD is the the thing to beat.

Incorrect the (old) New iPad (commonly referred to as "iPad 3") had the A5X. The New New iPad (announced today) has the A6X.

They'll try to move them all now, or maybe hold some to replace warranty claims. There's no way they'll sell 3s and 4s. The only reason they can sell the 2 and the 3 is because there's a MAJOR upgrade in the 3, the retina display. If they sell 3s and 4s, the 3 will totally canibalize the sales of the new one. And they really want to push this new one to get the lightning port on all of their new devices.

Yes. The box will come sealed in plastic. All wires and cables are brand new. Ipad will be wrapped in plastic. There will be no cosmetic flaws whatsoever. The battery will be brand new. You will not be able to tell it is refurbished.

I have gotten refurbished ipods and ipads for years and never had an issue.
