I'm unsure if you're trolling, but in case you're not...

I have a 14" lappy that's 5.25lbs. By itself it's almost unnoticeable, but carrying it on a backpack for prolonged time can be a huge pain. Not to mention I skip out packing physical notepads and a few other goodies that I'd like because then the weight is really noticeable, really fast.

I'd say if you're looking for something portable keep it under 4.5lbs. In fact right now I'm searching for a lappy with max weight of 3.75lbs

5.6 lbs is the weight of a textbook and a small book. If you can't carry around this laptop that says something about your education.

Akarin 10-28-2012 09:57 PM

15.6" mainstream laptop.
5-6lb is normal.

Real men use the Compaq SLT/286 (14 lbs).

Seriously, I always had 2-3 textbooks, notebooks, folders, etc in my bag when I was in ELEMENTARY school.

I think I just grew 4 chest hairs reading this.

Big warning this thing runs Win8. So, you probably can't do much with this, but it will do nothing pretty well with those specs.

Thanks. THAT post was actually helpful (unlike the 15 posts about how much a 15.6" mainstream laptop weighs). I'll stick with Win7 for now.

And people, if you're looking for something portable, you probably don't want to be looking at a 15.6". Check out 14" portables, or 13" ultrabooks.

thank you very much.

Will this laptop be fully functional with windows 7. ASUS website recommends windows 7 but it was specificially made for windows 8

If laptop was on sale for $180.00 or $200.00, would this be sold out in 5 minutes?

link626 10-29-2012 04:33 PM

I went to BB to check out the new windows 8 bullshits, and I saw this asus.

It's pretty nice build quality for $450. Certainly much better than the last generation k53 series. The hinges don't warp/flex the chassis when you open it.

seems very solid, and it's not a fingerprint magnet. Even the screen bezel is matte.

For $450, top choices are this and the lenovo Z580.

On another note, all the touchscreen laptops are CRAP. No matter what they say about beefing up the hinges, they ALL wobble when touched. You'll need to use the other hand to brace it.

The only setup that doesn't wobble is the Lenovo Yoga, and ONLY in tent mode. It wobbles in laptop mode.

Physically weak is better than mentally weak.
Huge heavy laptops are immensely CHEAPER to make. If you use your laptop as a desktop and take it from your desk to yor kitchen table, or take it from your house once a month you can do with a heavy laptop.
If you take it everyday, over 3lbs is pain for anyone.

Don't lie... this laptop is UMA Graphics. None of this according to intel. This laptop is the one that has always been for sale at this price at bestbuy and has always been UMA. which is why it is cheaper than any laptop with 3rd gen i5 with hd 4000 graphic card

Do you know what UMA graphics is.UMA (Unified Memory Architecture) just means the graphics adapter uses system RAM as video memory.
This laptop has intel hd4000 graphics, it uses system memory just like every other laptop with hd4000.
Uma is not the graphics card, and if u research u will find that hd4000 graphics are quite capable, even allowing you to have playable frame rates in most games.
