The RCA connectors are for the SUBWOOFER, standard stuff. You will connect the LFE (Low Frequency Effects) port in your receiver to this RCA connector. If your receiver only has one LFE output, just connect it to one of the RCA connectors. The speakers will connect to the SPEAKER outputs on the receiver using speaker wires.

Rebate was nowhere to be seen in the deal when I was looking. Promise.

From what I can tell, this is the lowest price ever.

If you had clicked through to the product page, you would have seen the lower price and the rebate. They were there before I even posted the deal. Promise.

Not sure what that is referring to on the product page. These appear to need a separate receiver to power them.

I believe the RCA input means that each speaker uses an RCA connector instead of the 2 wire input.

Russo69 10-31-2012 05:40 AM

nice looking speakers...

metdeath 10-31-2012 06:17 AM

Actual product page [sony.com]

It says input for the speakers (except sub) are push type, which means lame... should have been binding posts.

psych107 10-31-2012 06:48 AM

Awesome deal. The shape of the rear speakers is far too awkward for my setup though. Thanks for posting though.

prav25 10-31-2012 07:07 AM

I have sony htts 380 which I got for $100 from best buy clearance. I also have onkyo receiver ( 300 or 600 series -not sure). Would these speakers with onkyo receiver better set up than my hts 380? I think i can sell my hts for $ 100 on craigslist if needed. Any input is appreciated. thanks.

cn1024 10-31-2012 07:13 AM

We picked this system up a few weeks ago for $149 after rebate and for the price it delivers.

Corwin76 10-31-2012 07:19 AM

I noticed this Onkyo/Sony package at the bottom of the page for $230. You'd essentially be getting the
Onkyo TX-SR309 for $130, which seems to be a good price for a new unit after doing a quick check of other stores.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applic...5&csid=_23

Edit: My bad, I just noticed it looks like you'd pay shipping on the bundle. Still, it might not be bad depending on where you live I guess.

Baguda 10-31-2012 07:20 AM

I'd love to get a 5.1 sound system for a small bedroom, but these floor-standing speakers are too big and just won't work. The fronts and rears need to be wall mounted because there is no floor space for the speakers. Otherwise I'd get this.

Is anyone familiar with the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 speaker set? I have that in another room and it's pretty good. I'm curious how the sound quality of this Sony SA-VS310 compares to that Onkyo.

Hi. Could I have questions?

Do I need an A/V received for the Sony SA-VS310?

What's the disadvantage of RCA pin input?

If I purchase a Blu-ray sound system, the A/V receiver is combined with Bly-ray

player? Thanks

rzuckermanmd 10-31-2012 09:20 AM

I just picked up an open box pioneer reciever for $50 at best buy. Go on their clearance page and look for stores within the range you are willing to drive . They had better stuff for 100 but I just wanted some thing for a kids dorm room. By the way the speakers from sony don't ship for free.

comatose 10-31-2012 09:23 AM

Great deal. They were being cleared out last year by BB at $150... and general sale prices were at 199. I've got a set paired w/ my Onkyo NR-414 and does the job well for the typical crowd. They have a nice glossy finish and look great w/ decor.

True audiophiles obviously wouldn't touch this, as im sure you can see w/ the few snide remarks already. Given the tiny drivers in the towers these speakers have been criticized to be lacking in the midrange.

Arguably less quality of a connection

Why would speakers have HDMI?

samijubal 10-31-2012 10:06 AM

40mm x 70mm, 2.7" x 1.6" woofers. Very small speakers. Don't expect much from these. 81 dB sensitivity, very inefficient also.

uhsarp 10-31-2012 10:06 AM

He was just being funny. If you've been browsing SD for a while, you'd have noticed "No hdmi no deal" messages posted for pretty much everything from screen protectors to cars.

Sony isn't know for their speakers.
These speakers will not sound good. Guaranteed.
If you want good speakers you need to go with brands that are known for their speakers.
Polk, Klipsch, Energy, JBL, etc.

As much as I love Yamaha receivers, I wouldn't touch their speakers. Same goes for Sony. I love Sony TVs but my 5.1 speaker setup is JBL.

For a hundred bucks these speakers would be fine for your garage, playroom, etc.
But for a living room I would go with something else. But to each their own.

ShwaggyDoo 10-31-2012 10:13 AM

Newb audio question here (kind of in general but relates to this deal).

If I were to get this setup or something similar with RCA inputs, would I still need a receiver to use these speakers on a computer/PC with a basic 5.1/7.1 audio card?

I think you have to keep the $100 price point in mind. This is a very inexpensive set.

The Energy set also is a pretty good value, but you will eventually need a subwoofer, so you're probably looking at closer to $250 or $300 (plus receiver) to get everything going with that. Once you're in that ballpark, I'd argue that the Atlantic Technology set that goes on sale from Acoustic Sound for $400 or whatever blows it out of the water for another hundred bucks.

I've seen the Energy set in 5.1 format run for about $250 every now and then. I guess if comparing to this deal, maybe I should have referenced the 5.1 Monoprice speaker setup.

I'd take those over the Sony's as well :)

Yes, you would need some kind of amp to drive these. A PC sound card doesn't provide power to drive the speakers.
You could go with something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/LP-2020A-Le...peaker+amp
But notice that it's only stereo. You would need a 5.1 amp if you're going to use all the speakers. So yeah...a cheap receiver would need to be paired up with this.
Here are Amazon's best-selling receivers:

You can keep going up in $50 to $100 increments and you'll consistently get better sound the more expensive you get. The point here is that you get a 5.1 system for $100 where as the one you linked to, although better in quality, is more expensive and lacks a sub.

The monoprice set is probably close to this (very well could be better) when it comes to the sound quality, but I'll bet it's much easier to resell this on craigslist if/when you decide to upgrade.

georgec 10-31-2012 03:56 PM

Calling it a "system" is very misleading. IT'S JUST SPEAKERS. There is no receiver or amplifier.

Last year this system was priced at $550.00 and it looks like they were being sold by circuit city, probably as an upsell for a Sony Bravia HDTV.

Loserkidwac 10-31-2012 07:41 PM

I picked up these last Christmas at Best Buy for $150...Paired with my Sony Reciever they are decent. I would say they are worth the $100, I found them to sound a little muddy but I changed my eq settings and was able to them to sound good enought for me. I am planning to get some nicer floor standing front speakers and to replace the 2 with this set up and use these for 7.1 Oh the sub is also decent. This isn't an amazing high end speaker system but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a set up comparible in price.

billyloon 10-31-2012 09:01 PM

It's odd that this rebate form says that the rebate submission only requires the signed rebate form and a copy of the invoice, but not the UPC barcode. Just an observation.

mr34727 10-31-2012 09:31 PM

Is this dead? Not seeing the rebate

Mummel 11-02-2012 09:45 AM

How are these speakers? Can someone who bought them please post their experience? TIA.

eric.tan 11-09-2012 03:47 PM

I made the jump on these speakers. For the $100 price tag, I would say that these speakers were well worth it. I opted to hang these speakers by the screw slots on the back as opposed to standing them up. Base is good, I can probably adjust the speakers to make them sound better using the EQ. Overall, I would say it was a good purchase and I have no regrets.
