The TF300 has one of the best Wifi signal over long ranges(80ft) compared to other "premium" metal back tablets.
TF300 Vs Other Tablets Wifi [anandtech.com]

To improve the speed of the TF300 your need to use a fast SD card to cache the web browser, limit to 4 background task(developer setting) avoid using widgets, and avoid graphic intensive backgrounds.[newegg.com]

The TF300(4.1 JB) isn't as fast as the Nexus 7 & 10, but comes very close(w/ SDcard Mod) in speed and has a much better overall value for this 299.99 10 inch tablet. 259.99 Used.

400 for 16gb, 2560x1600 resolution on a 10" screen, the new exynos 5 dual-core processor that takes a crap on tegra 3 quad-core and an amazing gpu to boot.

however, this is still a good deal. for $300 you get a very capable tablet with an sd slot, the nexus 10 does not come with one...but personally, im waiting for nexus 10 review. i can do without an sd slot.

Actually, early benchmarking shows the Exynos 5 dual core to be of slightly lower performance than the tegra 3. It is a tad more energy efficient which will help battery life, though. Even Samsung admits and supports this. The nexus 10 will be the best $400 tablet out on the market as it will still handle all tasks admirably yet with an awesome 2560x1600 res. screen.

Do you plan on dropping your device? I don't mean to be sarcastic, but I've had a tablet since the iPad 1 and have never dropped mine.

On a phone, I get it because it's so portable. On a tablet though...

can you link me? everything ive heard and read points that the exynos is the next big thing after the snapdragon s4 pro, and its the first non-a5x processor capable of operating such a massive resolution, and doing it smoothly. hell, the dual core version of the s4 was trading blows with the tegra 3, the quad core pretty much rapes it. so i dont understand why google would opt for a lesser exynos dual core over the s4 pro which theyre putting in their nexus 4.

Lol! You may be screwed then. I'd still jump on this one. I have the Transformer Prime and love it w/ the keyboard dock.

I'm with the others. Sold my Galaxy Tab 2 a few days ago after the Nexus 10 announcement, and with that at $400, I think this has to be around this price going forward.

This or Surface RT for for 99 dollars more (I would get the combo if I get this).

So confused on what to do. Someone think for me!!!

This has almost exactly the same innards as a Nexus 7. The TF300 was the first non-nexus Asus device to get Jellybean because of the similarity. Expect quick updates on this thing if you get it.

Of course versus the nexus you get:
Micro SD, 8 Megapixel Rear Camera, GPS (? not sure of this don't own a nexus 7), 10.1" Screen, Cool Dock Accessory with Battery that can be found on sale for 60-100 bucks.

It's a very good device. I loved mine but upgraded to the Infinity.

The nearest competitor is either the nexus 7 or nexus 10. This tablet is sandwiched between the two literally in price and feature-set.

The surface type keyboard cover makes it.

Deftonian 11-01-2012 09:44 AM

At this price, this is a very capably tablet. ASUS makes some great tablets and the updates come timely.

Now, the mobile market is growing exponentially so of course what you buy today will be outdated within 6 months. Don't let that deter you from making a decision though, at this price I'd say it's a great entry to mid lvl tablet.

Sure, and it would cost you $600 bucks. For half the price you get basically the same innards and a better app store. You better really love using Microsoft Office because that's basically all you get from Surface at this point. The TF300 keyboard actually has a battery almost the same size as inside the tablet to double usage time.

mprayii 11-01-2012 09:53 AM

office is something I am concerned with being new to school again. I like the template for APA format that is offered through my school as an addon to MS Word. Also, I have a 5 year old and I am a little worried about not having gorilla glass... :/

I really want to pull the trigger on this tho...

If I did would you recommend the combo or would I do better buying the keyboard seperate?

Not really. The surface screen is better. Don't underestimate the utility of the built in kickstand. Every tablet should have that. The keyboard/case on the Surface is a revolution. It's truly a portable solution. In something the same size as a regular tablet, you get a true laptop replacement.

There are android equivalents. Quickoffice Pro is the most popular I think. I am not sure if that will meet your needs. I use it all the time now on my TF700 and on my old TF300. As for Gorilla glass, I did not use a screen protector on mine and it was blemish free with normal use. I do not know exactly what kind of glass it is but it is very durable. And gorilla glass will not save a tablet from a fall onto concrete as any user of the ipad knows.

I got my keyboard on sale at Best Buy. It was already $99 and on their 40% off table so 60 bucks. I believe the retail price for the dock is now $100. You will probably find it on sale for cheaper during the holidays.

If you keep it attached to the dock and closed, it is very durable as the screen won't be exposed to anything.

The price with dock should be around $360 or so.

Huh, I happily stand corrected. When I was looking into the 5250 a while ago, couple of months, the main reason it was being toted as the next big thing was that it allowed a single manufacturer to reasonably make an entire tablet in house which significantly lowers costs, and the fact that it is the first ARM Cortex- A15 based SOC. The most recent benchmarks do show that it is a powerhouse of a chip wholly beating Intel Atom cpus and all previous ARM based SOCs. I am happy to say I was wrong. I will still wait for a review of the Nexus 10 as well. I have loved my TF700T and my newly purchased Nexus 7.

TU and reps! I just picked it up with docking station. With the additional $20 off for the combo, it brings the docking station down to $108 which is only a few bucks more than the lowest I've seen it (new)! Sweet deal. Glad I had my deal alert set! I'm in the same boat. At first I liked the 7' form factor, now I wonder if screen size trumps portability. Expandable storage, HDMI, 2 cameras, better sound...all are pluses on the TF300. May just wait for the upcoming xmas sales.

Mine has not had the issue in the 3 months I have owned it. I bought screen protectors, but have not used them. This is significant, because I put protectors on everything. The screen is plenty hard, and your finger will not scratch it. I suspect those with broken screens were the result of misuse. If you can get the world believing these screens break just by looking at them, it must be easier to get a free one from owner abuse.

Yeah, I was dissapointed when I was first reading about it so I hadn't actually looked into it recently. Your post convinced me to look into its use on the new Chromebook. I am now really excited for the Nexus 10. It still isn't the perfect tablet, incorporating all of Samsung's, Google's, and Asus's advances in the market. I give it a year before we have a super amazing tablet worth our wait.

This is an awesome deal based on the fact that $350 is about as low as it has gone previously.

I was thinking Samsung's S Pen and digitizer, Google's updated 4.2 with the improved layout of 10" tablets(or newer depending on the release of this beast), Asus's docking station as it is so much more useful than the surface(I do like the surface, but one cannot deny that it is overall inferior to Asus's dock, but it is included instead of an add on), Microsoft's multitasking, whatever the best SOC is at the time of release, and an Ultra high resolution IPS screen. I would love OLED but they are way too expensive at this size right now. The padphone idea is definitely interesting as well and is worth looking into a way to incorporate into this amalgamation.

The 32 GB TF201 was $310 New AC at Cowboom + tax.
THREAD

The 64 GB TF201 was $285 in Very Good Condition from Amazon.
THREAD

While I am a TF300 owner and very happy, I think this should be about $249.99 to $274.99 now, given the market conditions. I would have rather had a TF201 with the supposed WiFi/GPS issues than the TF300 because it was built a little better and has the Super IPS screen and back-lit camera.

The 64 GB model at $285 is kind of hard to pass up, even if it isn't 1080p.

The TF201 is a better tablet than the TF300 even with it's GPS/WiFi issues. Aluminum unibody shell, Gorilla Glass screen. Super IPS 1280x800 display, 8mp back camera with flash, better battery life, and slightly better cpu and gpu performance. The TF300 was intended as a budget tablet followup to the TF101 line. The TF201 was the first in Asus's Premium tablet line. I agree that this is a good deal on this tablet, but please understand that your post is ill-informed.

You are correct. I confused the TF101.

Actually, the TF300 (at 21MB/s) is 10x better than the TF201 (at 2MB/s) since the the TF300 has super long range Wifi over the TF201, 499.99 TF700, and iPad 1-3.Wifi Tablet Test [anandtech.com]. Great or Bad Wifi can be a deal breaker for a Wifi-only tablet.

Good looks may not even matter since most folk will use a case to protect the fragile glass screens and stand it up. In terms, of value the 299.99 TF300 is still at the top.

The TF300T definitely has a great antenna in it. My argument is as a whole, it isn't as solid of a package. For many users, the increased wifi range can be a deal maker but for me, I get adequate wifi signal out of my N7 and TF700T that their other features make them a better purchase. The TF201's Wifi was not nearly as bad later in its life cycle as it was for the majority of it.

That makes a lot more sense. No worries, I have done the same thing. Sorry if my previous comment sounded douchy in any way.

The TF300 has one of the best Wifi signal over long ranges(80ft) compared to other "premium" metal back tablets.
TF300 Vs Other Tablets Wifi[anandtech.com]

To improve the speed of the TF300 your need to use a fast SD card to cache the web browser, avoid using widgets, and avoid graphic intensive backgrounds.[newegg.com]

The TF300 isn't as fast as the Nexus 7 & 10, but comes very close(w/ SDcard Mod) in speed and has a better overall value for a 299.99 10 inch tablet.

Zarich 11-02-2012 01:57 PM

How can it not be as fast as the N7 when they have the same hardware.
I played with this 300 and it is a nice piece of hardware, but I am starting to agree with folks who say for a tablet.. 10" is too much to make it portable.
I have a laptop at home and this just feels like a thinner lappy.

Both the nex 7 and tf300 have the same tegra 3 chipset t30l 1.3 ghz,but the nex7 has a faster ssd. Asus put slow ssd on the tf100 to tf700 tablets. The 10 inch tablets are only portable if you store them in small backpack/bag or your car.

-sent from a tf300 and nex 7 owner :-)

Zarich 11-02-2012 02:41 PM

Playing with both at the store I thought the t300 loaded faster, but that might just be placebo.

So if a person could only afford one.. which would you recommend since you own both.

Nex 7 for very light, 24 7 tablet, portable viewing, car gps, gaming is perfect.

Tf300 for scanning in medical records with 8mp camera. Business doc viewing/editing, multitasking and weak eyesight.

I would choose the nex 7 since its all in one , 24 7 tab, that is blazing fast out of the box.

I had to spend 1 month(20+hours) to tweak the TF300 setting to get out of LagVille.

I feel like gaming would be more enjoyable on a 10 inch tablet than a 7 inch. More-so with a controller. Touch games will be difficult at times I'm sure..but I am intrigued by playing android games on my TV :-)

3 - i have been reading tons of reviews and it states ASUS has wifi antenna issues. is there a resolution to this?

3,tf201 had a well documented wifi issue. Tf300 has great wifi. Tf100,tf600,tf700 have ok wifi. Check page 1 wiki of this thread for more details.

Here's a deal without a 24 hour buying window. Its used- like new/ nearly mint condition (9.7/10) Used 255.99+TAX ASUS Transformer TF300 T-B1-BL 10.1-Inch 32 GB Tablet (Blue) [amazon.com]. The condition of the battery is still great since the TF300 is under 6 months old.

Duarian 11-07-2012 05:37 PM

If anyone is interested in this, please PM me. I currently have mine I ordered from Newegg that they want me to pay return shipping on. Not a huge deal but I do live in PA which is as far away from CA as you can get here in the US.

Will charge what I paid (and potentially a little for shipping).
