Fixx42 11-01-2012 03:30 PM

Will this be available online as well as in store? And correct me if I'm wrong, but this item is unable to stream Netflix?

EDIT: Reread the Amazon description and I see that it does stream netflix. Anyone know if this deal will be available online though?

I'm looking to move to a Rasberry Pi or one of these http://www.indiegogo.com/cubieboard to do that on my bedroom TV (Stupid sony tv box doesn't stream some of the formats I have). Have an order in for the cubieboard, but who knows when/if I will get it. Maybe worth looking into something like that if you like tinkering around with that kind of stuff.

This is probably good if you just want something for netflix or one of the other things it supports. I mean you can't beat the price.

I just tried with the coupon to see if it works and it did not work online. I was not able to get 20% off as of today.

What is the difference between this and the ntv 300?

No, some people (me) got coupons that had an expiration date listed as 11/31. The expiration date was supposed to be 10/31. None of the coupons that anyone got are valid until 11/31.

There were two coupons for 20% off recently. One has a unique code , and the other one has a generic code. Both of them have expired. Would the one with the generic code (48128) still be working on this Sun?

That's the option I took. It's $49.99 now, so it gets free shipping. If there's any issue once I receive it, then I'll return & rebuy at the store next week. That way, I'll be sure they have inventory.

You are going to have to do a return/rebuy to get the rebate. Rebates have effective dates and any purchase before Sunday will not qualify for the rebate due to the purchase date.

It does not say gift card rebate so it will be real money in 4-6 weeks or more. Won't know exact rebate details until Sunday when the rebate terms are posted.

Same here, but just an FYI that they were already pulled from the floor and in the back room waiting to be shipped back. Store manager was surprised when I told him they are in next weeks ad and confirmed I can come in and return and purchase again when the ad is active.

phazein 11-02-2012 01:08 PM

Went to 2 staples and bought 2 at each location. First staples they were $49.99 and second staples had a price drop sign to $29.99.

Also scored an open box Motorola 6850 surfboard open box for $75–$20 off coupon that I received from the email apology. That right there made my day.

One store had a label next to it saying price drop. Maybe $29.99 is going to be the new price permanently.

screenname 11-02-2012 02:33 PM

Went to 2 stores to pick up 2. The 2nd store has them on the clearance table with a $49.99 price tab on it. However, it rang up as $29.99 when I bought it.

Roughly, how many channels are free? I see ESPN. Can you play ESPN3 for free if your ISP supports it?

cowguy 11-02-2012 04:57 PM

This is may not be even worth it at that price, I tried using one and pretty much gave up. The menu's are horribly laggy, interface is klutzy, and the remote is a pain to use. I ve used Apple TV , roku, and other media streamers and this is a real joke, yes for even $10. Net gear should be ashamed of putting this out there.

debonas 11-02-2012 05:30 PM

With tax it would be around 12 USD. I would not buy this device at this price considering, in BF, there will be tons of devices including roku will be availabel at this price.

Mind your language. You dont need to stoop to this level to disagree to something.

If you still dont understand, then go take some classes in community colleges.

Ok Dad! thanks for the tip! And for the record I thought I was being nice as opposed to calling him a dumb ass.
There's disagreeing with something and then there's the "how can you be so dumb as to post that" disagreeing with something. Does ANYONE think there is going to be a Roku for $12..Anyone? Anyone?

jmdubya 11-02-2012 06:28 PM

In for 2 (hopefully).

In for 2 in the morning w/return/rebuy on my mind... and I'll be using the $5 off $50 coupon at my local Staples.

Funny, when I check inventory, all 8 or so of the Staples around me say 'limited inventory' and to call the store (yeah, right!) and that the item is a clearance item. I hope those dudes that work there aren't snapping them up as I write this. I really would hate to drive (about 8 miles one way) over in the morning... only to find them OOS... but I'm willing to take that chance (wife has been nagging me to find a 'cheap box' to facilitate the entertainment of my kids in the other room (entertainment = Netflix 'Just for Kids').

With the $5 coupon basically covering tax, I think $20 and two round trips to Staples is a pretty good deal for two new 'basic' media streamers (besides, all I plan on basically using them for is just Netflix anyway - perfect for the kid's playroom). Although, I do wish it had access to Tuneinradio or even Pandora... but for $10, I won't complain! The other one is going to Mom & Pop for Christmas.

Thanks OP. Reps forthcoming.

stgermaine 11-02-2012 06:34 PM

I would be all over this if it had a USB or card slot. Dang.

Picked up a couple today. Planning on the return/.rebate deal. Have $10 off $20 coupons because a staples closed on my area but I'm noy sure if they will let me use them. Have Roku and love it but worth the $10 or less just to have youtube

Either try clearing your cookies/cache and try again to print it (start at the beginning - click on the banner ad again) - OR - assuming you're using Internet Explorer, open up an InPrivate browsing session and try it all over again. From what I've read elsewhere online, it 'should' work. Also, the coupon typically expires 7 days from the day you print it.

Good luck.

tqbin 11-02-2012 09:10 PM

it says "this coupon is currently unavailable"

thanks

lol why go to the store? Just order them online, and do a return / rebuy in stores. I guess you have to pay more (but i think it's the same price at some staples still)... i'll probably check out a few stores on sunday, 2 show low stock and both stores are pretty empty people wise... hopefully these rebates are limit 10 per household :P

If all goes horribly wrong, I'll just buy online....

Just FYI that when I checked they only had 19 available online. This is a clearance item in the stores.

The stores near me are nazis about price matching online items to store clearance prices via return/rebuy. I once tried to do that but they sent the item back..

saw this on staples.com:
Quote:

Which items and services aren’t available for price match?
We don’t price match to competitor or our own local or special events (e.g. grand opening, anniversary, clearance or liquidation sales).
Hopefully they honor it, but I still think im going to roam around my local staples stores sunday morning in case they have some in stock.

btw, can't it be possible that staples will send out more of these to the stores since it's in their ad?

There is no price match. When you do return/rebuy next week, the price will be $29.99 as shown in the ad. Just tell them you want to return and rebuy to qualify for the rebate.

I have this, bought it 3 years ago on Black Friday for my kid at college. He gave it back because it hummed so loud he couldn't sleep. I haven't noticed a noise from it but about 25% of the time when I turn it on it says not connected to the internet (wireless)and it has to be restarted and when I select my show and it starts I have only sound and no picture so I have to turn it off then on again and then it's fine. Goofy little romote. I wouldn't buy another even for cheap.

scatti 11-03-2012 06:42 AM

Stopped in store yesterday ...no NTV200 on shelf (no tag on shelf either).
Clerk said they haven't had any for at least a month.
Asked him to check store inventory anyway...which he did.
Said none in stock and the closest item was their NTV300...and they only had 2 of those.
This was in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

jjj444yes 11-03-2012 07:01 AM

based on what this actually "does", I'm surprised marketing didn't list the resolution as being 4k

kcsierradad 11-03-2012 08:38 AM

Bought the last two at a store near me, will try the return/buy thing.
The ad is good through the 10th so I will do one day and again a few days later, maybe even at a different store. Try to keep this on the low-down or they may clamp-down.

Found this to be a useful chart to see the difference(s) amongst the other Netgear streaming media units and how they all compare to 2 of the Roku units. I'll post it to the wiki too.

Nice job on the chart, thanks. What I don't like about the Roku is that it doesn't have an optical out for connection to an A/V receiver. My receiver doesn't have HDMI ports.

I was able to get the last NeoTV at my local Staples. They told me no problem to return/rebuy. What was interesting is they had a copy of tomorrow's ad and the NeoTV wasn't in it, but it's in the ad on line. They just probably lost the page it was on.

Yes you can but you need an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership so you'll be paying monthly or yearly. So if in case you use xbox live for online games then it is ok but if you use it for normal and don't even pay for it then not recommended as it'll cost more.
Xbox Live could run around $35 if specials comes for a year subscription.

You can see what it is available here:

lets see. There are very limited options on the screen. There are channels, search and a place for you to sign in but thats it. I was trying to find podcast uploaded by a user yesterday. When i searched by user name just 4 videos came up although there are dozens more by that user. I had to go back to the pc find the video and reenter just the video name in the search to find it. 15 min in to the video I was interuppted by a phone call, so I hit pause. Tried to resume from where I left off but the machine just hung. I had to hard reset (unplug) restart it, I then had to go repeat the same search because there is no history. I wanted to skip ahead to the part where I had left off but no luck there. The seek bar advanced while the video didnt. This has to be one of the lamest programming efforts out there.

I also tried some other apps like the best buy movie app and some other crap. There all horibbly laggy and froze randomly. I had to yank the power atleast 3-4 times. I am on the latest firmware and am using a wired connection.

I also read some where that this is actually made by Roku for netgear. I ve used a roku and this is nothing like it.

bolland99 11-03-2012 04:04 PM

I tried to get one in my Staples in ATL...gave the mgr and he said he found it but was the 300 model, not the 200. It was $49.99. I didn't notice until I got home and will return it and try to find the 200..he said they had two in stock but couldn't find them apparently.;

repped.. this plus all the other warnings in this thread.. doesn't sound like this would be worth it if it was FAR, let alone $10

Don't call is the first rule of SD. It is possible that someone within the store was looking out for the item himself/herself.

Nope, the SER is valid only for in-store purchases only. Since most Staples stores have none/minimal quantities of this item in stock for a clearance price of $29.99, you can buy them online for in-store pickup and then return/rebuy in-store for rebate eligibility.

Keep in mind that the rebate is for only $20 and if you do this return/rebuy routine, I am not sure what price you can buy it back in-store.

Keep in mind that the rebate is for only $20 and if you do this return/rebuy routine, I am not sure what price you can buy it back in-store.

I will wait for online deal. Staples in-store deal with rebate is a pain.

i always thought that at staples you could go back within X days if you find a lower price or something? It's probably another store's policy and I'm getting all confused about it... but i assume that it will ring up as $30 in stores so you should get that price ... otherwise you can just return it.

Last two left at staples.com in case you are interested in a return/rebuy thingy...

Your first statement is true as long as the item is still available in-store. But, I am not sure if they can do this for a clearance item at the clearance price.

Thanks shyam09 for the inventory data.. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am gonna just buy the last 2 in my nearest Staples store and call it a day!

Why do you think the rebate is only for instore purchase? The ad does not mention this limitation. It is already 11/04 now in east time. I just did 2 orders, and will do online chat with them on Monday to get the price adjustment.

It does Hulu and Netflix.

$10 to be able to watch Netflix on the bedroom TV isn't bad at all.

$10 to be able to watch my friends Hulu subscription on my TV, now THAT's a good deal :)

There is no subscription tied to the box itself. You can watch free video services such as YouTub and CNET at no charge. Premium services, like Hulu and Netflix charge you directly.

There's disagreeing with something and then there's the "how can you be so dumb as to post that" disagreeing with something. Does ANYONE think there is going to be a Roku for $12..Anyone? Anyone?

Well, calling him ANYTHING is the problem.

f you really felt that you just had to say something, you could have limited it to how unlikely (just not going to happen) a Roku would go for $12 on Black Friday. Instead, you had to puff up like a self important peacock and attack the guy personally.

Here's the thing... The names don't matter, dumb ass, idiot, bozo, contempt is contempt and you're making a production out of showing it publicly. Then, next week, the guy comes across a GREAT deal and doesn't post it. Why would he? Do you do favors for people that go out of their way to treat you like crap in front of other people?

When you make folks less likely to post deals, you're not just screwing things up for yourself, you're screwing things up for the rest of us. If you can't make your point without attacking someone personally, just don't make it at all.

Son, just stop and think before you post.

just clarify, we still need pay netflix to watch it, correct?

Correct. You have to have a Netflix subscription. But you don't need an EXTRA subscription. Netflix subscriptions allow you to watch from your computer, your phone, or boxes and TV's with Netflix apps built in.

It's pretty much the same as watching on a smart phone. You own the box. It can connect to and play from a list of video providers. Some of those providers charge, some don't.

The final price is supposed to be $9.99. Either the ad is wrong or the rebate form is wrong.

Might be worth trying to get Staples.com to price match the in-store final price, given that the ad didn't say anything about the rebate being online only.

nothing in my Ad for staples, in Cleveland.

PoDog 11-04-2012 05:49 AM

Bought two on McKnight Road in Pittsburgh last night. They have them in the back to be returned to some place because they are on clearance. Manager had to go get them for me. The tag was on the shelf for $29.99 but no devices. We looked at this week's ad also and this deal was not in this weeks ad.

Off topic (sort of): does anyone know if there's a magical way to search current/valid Staples easy rebates for the current week?

For example, if I am looking for weekly 'CVS Extra Bucks' deals at my local CVS, one of their online 'tools' is a simple choice/button that says something like 'all of this week's CVS Extra Bucks deals'. You click that and it then shows a complete list of items that are included in the deal.

Was curious of Staples had something like this? You know, something that simply shows all of the current (not expired or can no longer be purchased to receive the rebate) SER opportunities? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

PS - Headed to Staples now for the 10am opening to snag a couple of these I hope!!! (I couldn't make it over there yesterday - ran out of time). :-(

shyam09 11-04-2012 06:47 AM

ok rebate check vs Visa card? Rebate checks are postcards which means that there is a chance someone may steal it just to be a weirdo... I haven't really gotten a visa card since I always do rewards checks, but i could take this to a bank and have them cash it out for me, correct?

I know that the chances of you not getting the check is low, but it still exists (especially when the rewards amount would be something like $200 if you are buying 10 of these netgear things)

I believe Staples.com does not have anything such. But, you can go to their easy rebates webpage (the URL is given below) and manually search if there is anything interesting for you from a particular manufacturer (option # 1) or product keyword (option # 3).

actually the best thing to do would just go to the weekly ad and click on each product it will tell you if it has an SER or something (it's a pain though)

If you wanna play it safe, choose a Staples gift card rather. Visa reward cards can't be cashed out in banks, but if you have an AMEX Serve account you can load all of these rewards cards and transfer the total proceeds to your bank account that way.

If my memory serves me right, you will be given a gift card or reward check for each in-store purchase quantity (rather than for a total) unless all the items are bought in the same store. For example, if you end up buying these Netgear players from 3 different stores, you will receive 3 checks or gift cards.

Good job you called

adealaday 11-04-2012 07:42 AM

Just bought one at a local staples store, rebate form was printed along with the receipt.

I called ahead a few minutes before the store opened and asked them if the item was in stock. Luckily I only had to call 2 stores before getting a positive answer. Then I asked them hold one for me. When I got to the store it was waiting for me at the service center... in and out in less than 2 minutes. Thanks OP. repped.

Price was 29.99 + tax. Rebate form printed stated 20 dollar visa card.
