BoxWave is an established business that has been around for some time. Infinitely more reputable than those who are selling "clone" cables on eBay, who are being shut down by Apple on a daily basis.
Apparently, they are also making a BLACK version of this cable, but only available for pre-order on their site. Boxwave Lightning charge and sync cable linky [boxwave.com] (they sell for $14.95) This post can be edited by most users to provide up-to-date information about developments of this thread based on user responses, and user findings. Googled the cable and found this youtube video, take it for what's it's worth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWcThzU862Q

Just got my iphone today and was wondering how many days before I lose the cable and have to run around looking to buy a replacement
|
In for 2. If they do not work, Amazon will refund money. Boxwave guarantees they will sync and charge.
|
$8.95 for a simple cable. WTF!!!
I bet this costs way less than a HDMI cable. |
I'm willing to give this a try. Thanks OP, got the car charger combo.
|
This is hilarious. All the Apple sheep will now have to go and buy yet ANOTHER overpriced cable from Apple while the rest of the world uses USB for all their devices. Crazy that Apple has brought up an entire generation of suckers.

I don't understand why Apple-haters feel OBLIGATED to post in a thread clearly directed towards Apple devices.
Be happy with whatever you buy, no one has the right to question what other people do with THEIR money. If people feel the purchase is worthwhile then so be it, cherish what you have and let others do the same as well. |

Doesn't look good that they have a picture of an Iphone 4 with and iphone 5 charger on it
|
I would say wait 2 more week and price will come down much more. Ebay sellers are just now getting these this week.

Will gamble and return if it doesn't work. Definitely needed a second cable for car as the GPS drains the battery so quickly.

I need a couple. I'll risk it...
|
Just bought 10. Hope they work.
|
If this one has Amazon Prime and allows free return for defect, I'll get one. But now, I'll stick with genuine Apple accessories.
|
It's not amazon prime.
Another note - I ordered only the cable, not the car charger. And the price was $8.95 each. But...my order confirmation email from Amazon says this: Delivery estimate: Nov. 15, 2012 - Nov. 19, 2012 "BoxWave USB Lightning Cable + Car Charger Bundle for All Apple Devices with New Apple Lightning Connector - Supports Apple iPhone 5, iPad 4, iPad mini" |
Will this damage my iphone 5? If so, Square Trade will replace/repair or not?
|
Great, another proprietary connector! Nice going Apple!
Wasn't it crap like this that cause the European Union to force retailers to come to a common standard (micro USB)? |
1 Attachment(s)
I hope this clarifies things up a bit; not done by me. (I've had enough non-Apple devices to be annoyed at all the different cables out there over the years, even within the same brand)
|
Not complaining about the change- I like the new configuration. What I do not like, is shelling out $300 for a phone, and then having to shell out over $70 for adapters for my accessories. It is the cost.
|
I have placed the order for this one but also thinking to buy the Genuine Apple Lightning to Micro USB adapter which APPLE is selling in europe. Its on ebay for around $45 shipped from UK.. so I'll wait and see if the price goes down for this adapter.

What I don't get is that Samsung owners come into these threads to troll about the adapter being what it is. But if Apple used a micro USB connection they would all be up in arms over the fact that Samsung did it first.
|
thanks. got one..
|
FYI, the new cables are designed differently from previous edition and not all are equal. 3rd party cheap cables can damages your iDevices, so take this into account. I would wait to see reviews on these cables before trying one by myself.
|
Worth a shot. Good ol' Amazon will take it back if it's a flop.
|
OK don't shoot me.... I'm new to the apple world :) Is this good for an older apple product? like an ipod touch that is from earlier this year? or only the new products?

So it won't work with my outdated ipad 2?
|
My experience with Boxwave is that they generally never stand by their products. I had a stylus tip that was faulty and they flat out refused to replace it.
|
I had a boxware cable that I bought to use with itouch gen 3. Did not work.
|
I think I'm going to wait for some reviews. Already ponied up $19 for an apple brand cable. Should be ok with 2 for now. Anybody think there's any issue with damage to the phone with aftermarket cables? I know once manufacturers got in the swing of things with the old 30 pin cables they were very reliable.
|
aww man.. 2 weeks i couldn't hold out any more and bought one from Apple for the car. Guess I'll get this one and leave it at the office.. I am not one to be taking the same one all around. Thanks for posting.

In for 4.. Will report back how they work.
|
In for one ! Thanks OP!
|
I'll wait until monoprice comes out with it. There's no way they would put out a product that would brick an iPhone 5.
All 99% of the people want it to do is just charge the damn thing. |
ordered 2
|
I dont see any review on this item from this seller, but Reviews are not looking good for these aftermarket cables that are being sold on Amazon.com as most customers who purchased them are complaining that these cables have charging issue.

rather buy the real one for 20. This cord is like 3 bucks on ebay

This is the cheapest I could find on eBay http://bit.ly/SDFmAO
$9.21 buy it now with free shipping. Seller has good feedback. I'm gonna wait til there are cheaper cables. I think. |
What the hell. I bought one for $9 bucks. I only bought 1 because Im skeptical if it works/charges/syncs and have also noticed the build quality of cheap cables suck compared to the OEM Apple cables. If the 1 I receive works out well.. I might buy 2 or 3 more.
Stopping by the Apple store to pick up a couple was already on my list of weekend errands. As I'd like to eventually have 3 of these lightning to USB cables. 1 for the house, 1 for the car, 1 for work/luggage. |
|
these wont work
apple has some stupid chip in their cables to prevent unauthorized 3rd party cables |

Good deal, much better priced than Apples cable. It's a shame that Apple decided to use a proprietary cable though instead of sticking with an industry standard. I'd understand it more if they at least put USB 3.0 or the thunderbolt cable. Oh well...
|
In stock on November 9, 2012.
Great price, but I wouldn't put money down on pre-orders especially for the lightning cable that has some kind of embedded chip. While I've seen news articles that they've been cracked, I haven't seen anybody on macrumors.com forums confirm that they bought a generic cable that actually works. Learn from past slickdeals that had great Lightning cable deals but couldn't deliver: Saveology & Dealchicken. |

I'm taking a chance and ordered 4.
I am also waiting for my iPhone 5 as well. It's amazon.com, I trust them so it was no brainer. For those who want to flame for me supporting Apple, find something better to do. |

the micro-usb to lightning adapter is interesting item to have since you would theoretically need only 1 cable for apple/micro-usb devices.
it just goes to show that they could have very well used a micro-usb connector in the iphone 5. |

Everyone who is taking the risk with this cable, knowing Amazon will take it back. Will Amazon also replace your iP5 if it gets f'ed by this cable? I hope this works, but I'm not willing to put my iP5 up to save a few bucks on a phone that cost me 4+ benjamins.

Bought one BTW, but will wait for someone to use it first and post if it works perfectly. If it won't at least not damaging my own iphone 5.:bounce: |

Did someone say this is a micro to usb? I wonder if it will work for my kindle HD?
|
No, this is lightening to USB. Look at the pic. Not good for Kindle.

So here's the deal. A long time ago when I had an iPhone 3G, I wanted to have the ability to store video and watch that video on any old tv. I looked at Apple's RCA adapter and they wanted $40 bucks. On eBay they were $3. So, I got the $3 version. Two weeks later, I get my cable in, test it out, everything works perfect. I'm using it fairly frequently, then an update for the iPhone3G comes out. I upgrade and then when I connected the cable I got, "This Accessory Is Not Made To Work With iPhone". From this article: http://www.pocketables.com/2009/0...ipods.html and I quote: Quote:
Also, here is an article showing the authentication chip on authentic Lightning cables: http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/2...connector/ |
Better to just get the Apple one.
Save you the headache down the road. |

My cable is working fine.
|
Got my cable today. Works great!
|
Lightning end of the cable is a bit stiff in my Mini, but it does sync and charge fine.
|
Cable is now $9.45 shipped. Going for $6.59 shipped on ebay. Can't wait till these prices drop further!
|
got mine. charges and syncs fine. the only thing i noticed is that the fit is a bit tight and you actually need to push it in with a little force ... not sure how this is going to affect the phone's connector slot in the long term.
|
Mine arrived and works!!! Just ordered 2 more - coupon code still works! I saved my thumbs up until I received mine but here you go.
