Seagate Barracuda 3TB,Internal,7200 RPM,3.5" (ST3000DM001) Hard Drive - EBAY $39.99

The mods deleted original thread. Let's discuss here.

I just received tracking number from the seller and it's shipped from China.

Anybody know if it will be a brick inside? How can a HDD be fake?

thanks

Please don't ship it back if it is a brick inside or counterfeit. Paypal has new policy about counterfeit and your will get all refund without shipping it back.

Effective Date: Nov 01, 2010

“13.3 What type of payments are eligible for re-imbursement under
PayPal Buyer Protection?

“Sellers: As a seller you are liable to PayPal if you lose a Claim
from a buyer with a PayPal account registered anywhere in the world.
This includes, without limitation, where you sell to a buyer who is a
Full Programme User and the buyer files a SNAD Claim, in which case
you will generally be required to accept the item back and refund the
buyer the full purchase price plus original shipping costs. You will
not receive a refund on your PayPal fees. If you lose a Significantly
Not as Described Claim because the item you sold is counterfeit, you
will be required to provide a full refund to the buyer and you will
not receive the item back (it will be destroyed).”

The vendor currently has none for sale (search ST3000DM001 under "sold listings"), so it's a moot point for now. Seller last offered only ~15 units for sale at a time, anyway, so I don't think that's enough stock to support a slickdeals listing. (Note SD's policy for eBay listings and the rationale for it).

Read the comments: the seller's negative feedback for the last 30 days [ebay.com] may say all you need to know, but note that...

Neweggs site in the People's Republic of China sells this drive for 1049 Yuan [com.cn] (about $168 US). You'd think 249.75 Yuan ($39.99) would be quite a bargain for a local buyer and you wouldn't have to deal with hassle of packing and international shipping.

Still, :dontknow:

Let us know how it turns out, and we'll have more to discuss.

Here's hoping you're one of the ~16% satisfied customers.

It was deleted on other deal sites as well LOL

Oh, well, I'm in for the surprise!

Anyway, let's get as many people in as possible so that we can make a stronger case to Ebay if the HDD has a brick inside.

I ordered one. Regretted it immediately. Anyways, I'll be monitoring this thread along with you guys. Very curious to see what we receive, if anything.

I noticed that some people were selling the PCB's for that model unit for around that price.
I would not be suprised if you get just the PCB.

Hope not, otherwise we can get money back without problem.

Tracking number doesn't work unless china doesn't update.

I was browsing his sales and this showed up lol http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-6-DVD...0972175457

I foresee tons of negative feedback shutting this guy down.
