Anyone know the hours for Staples, Office Max and Office Depot for Black Friday?

forum67 11-08-2012 01:25 PM

cant wait. The IPS screen is great.

arrgon 11-08-2012 02:26 PM

Does anyone know if this is the best deal this Black Friday for a convertible laptop?

naytreeee 11-11-2012 11:50 AM

I kind of want this now, does anyone know if they'll adjust the price if I purchased today, and come back on black friday? I mean the return policy is 14 days, and it's either I return and repurchase or they adjust the price right there. HMM? Possible or No?

AceNJ 11-11-2012 04:11 PM

Hmm is the hdd really 5400rpm? On Lenovo's site you can only get it in 7200RPM...

EBOBO 11-11-2012 06:28 PM

How is the hard drive + ssd setup in there? Can i replace the HDD with a larger SSD?

magoomba 11-12-2012 02:54 PM

What's the resolution, 1366x768?

vivaciouswoman 11-12-2012 07:10 PM

Only 4 GB of Ram, people. Really?

dealseeking 11-13-2012 12:49 PM

How did you know the price on Black Friday? Is there a link to Staples BF ads?

n0nst0p2thet0p 11-13-2012 02:23 PM

Does anyone know the webcam resolution?

vivaciouswoman 11-13-2012 05:13 PM

Nice that it's touchscreen, and nice that it's got great screen resolution. But I need better performance--more RAM, more HD. Costco has a nice alternative for people who care about those kinds of specs, and it runs on Windows 7, so you can decide whether and when to "upgrade" (get stuck with) Windows 8. http://slickdeals.net/f/5494422-Lenovo-U410-14-Ultrabook-3rd-gen-i5-8GB-memory-750GB-HD-24GB-possibly-32GB-SSD-HD-for-700-tax-at-Costco-com-starting-Nov-19-Online-only?p=54755962#post54755962

The ThinkPad is the superior machine. It's a premium brand that's durable, upgradeable, and highly repairable. Ram is cheap. I'd buy the ThinkPad and replace the Ram and still be getting a better deal.

And Windows 8 is nice with Start8 or Classic Start installed. Once you bypass the metro screen you have a really zippy OS.

Is the Ram in this upgradable? I thought it wasn't...

Yup! Real easy too. just pop off the door on the right side and slide the 2.5" drive out. Careful thoe, you need a low profile 7mm 2.5" instead of the standard 9mm

citrxj 11-17-2012 08:44 AM

How many will there be?

Per one of the reviews.

Hard drive is also different, Ad says 500 GB at 5400 rpm, System check shows 500 GB at 7200 rpm with a 22 GB Samsung SSD cache. Makes the unit respond much faster.

AceNJ 11-17-2012 03:06 PM

Really tempted... This or Surface Pro when it comes out? Hmm...
I imagine the 128gb Surface would run around the same price. $700?

Not even close, Microsoft is purportedly going to release the Pro in the US at a minimum of $1000, it is up for preorders in Europe at an equivalent of around $1200 USD

Well if that's the case then this seems like a pretty good deal. Think I'll go for it :-)
I can't seem to find Staples return policy though for the holiday this year... Is it 14 days after purchase or 14 after Xmas? Restocking fee if opened?

citrxj 11-18-2012 06:14 PM

Is this in-store only? Or online too?

iamjohnlenons 11-18-2012 11:20 PM

good price

JoeSmith2010 11-19-2012 07:50 PM

Can I buy, return and rebuy?

I think this is a YMMV but its risky when it comes to BF deals. Anyone have experience doing this?

Waveali 11-20-2012 05:26 PM

Will this be available online? Not into freezing my butt off waiting in line.

This is a full fledged windows 8 machine... not windows 8 RT. The yoga 11 and this are comparing oranges to bananas. This is MUCH faster than the yoga and more of a business focused convertible.

Thanks! :repped:

disco_fever 11-22-2012 07:27 PM

Well, I bought this Monday of this week and have it still sealed with the receipt. I am going to simply try to stroll in around mid morning and get them to price adjust it. If not, then I will just return it. Will see how it goes. I am not really sure how they could refuse a price match to their own advertisement - Their site states they will guarantee price for 14 days.

wethead4 11-22-2012 09:09 PM

I see that this is not a door buster item but available all weekend. Do we think this is a sell out item in the first hour or will this last a day.

megakimcheelove 11-22-2012 10:00 PM

1am EST and nothing live on the website - may be in-store only.

KarlS 11-22-2012 10:20 PM

Doesn't say. Also on the front of the ad. Says 5am.

Corrosive 11-22-2012 11:38 PM

Its live now... I just purchased the Twist. I hate tax :(

njpcs0603 11-22-2012 11:44 PM

Its available on staples.com now.

swirlsaepi 11-23-2012 12:04 AM

In for one.

AceNJ 11-23-2012 01:12 AM

Just picked one up online. This is live. So what's the return policy? Only 14 days? No holiday return policy in effect?

fleft 11-23-2012 01:59 AM

Anyone reselling this on eBay? How much do you expect to make?

tinker21 11-23-2012 03:16 AM

The Leesburg, Va Staples did not keep this item in stock. I forgot to check the site before I went to bed otherwise I would have surely gotten one online! Currently OOS online :(

AceNJ 11-23-2012 03:46 AM

Glad I just pulled the trigger without over thinking this. I would have been annoyed that it sold out so fast. Got in though. As for reselling on eBay (someone asked earlier). I really don't think you would make any money after all the BS fees. Totally not worth it in my opinion. But at $750 (with tax) it seems like a warm enough deal. I hope I like it.

BTW, Staples CSR over chat confirmed return policy is extended until 1/12/2013 for this with no restocking or open box fee.

dofan 11-23-2012 03:59 AM

Staples sucks!!! I was the second in line but wasn't able to get one because there was only one in stock!!! Outrageous!!!

Shame on you, staples.

Wow that's terrible. What staples was it?

Guido13 11-23-2012 07:26 AM

Any other touch enabled laptops that would be comparable in price and performance? Wonder if I'll be able to get this one again since it went out quick.

i got the last one, too. i feel like the staples only carry one or two at most of it.

Guido13 11-23-2012 07:22 PM

Woohoo! I called a local Staples that was listed as 'low stock' this evening and the salesperson offered to call and find one locally. I wait for five minutes, and it was music... 'My manager found one in the back.' Score! Such a nice laptop for the money.
A few things I noticed immediately, no fingerprint reader, no accessible battery or RAM.
Those surprised me. Can you upgrade from 4 to 8GB of RAM?

tinker21 11-23-2012 08:24 PM

I was able to reserve the last one in stock online at the 2nd closest b&m to my home. I will know in the morning if they actually have one in stock or not. *fingers crossed*

eneal1081 11-24-2012 06:23 PM

For those who missed on this, Lenovo.com has 10% off the Thinkpad Twist. Add 10% cashback bonus from Discover, and you are pretty close to this price.

Thinkpad Twist w/ i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200RPM plus 24GB Micro SSD is regularly $899 - 10% (Code BLACKFRIDAY) = 809.10 + Tax
ShopDiscover is giving 10%CB at Lenovo.com, making it $728.19 + tax. Plus, you can choose your processor and HD/SSD from a few configurations and keep the 10% + 10% discount.

tinker21 11-25-2012 07:10 PM

My earlier reservation ended up getting canceled due to the fact they could not find the item in the store. I called all the stores within a 30 mile radius and got extremely lucky! Someone ended up returning one to the original store I went to on black Friday. They had opened it and realized they couldn't work a certain software on it. I was able to get an extra 5% off because it was an open box item. They basically took care of taxes. I've been playing around with it for the past day and it's awesome!

Corrosive 11-26-2012 09:19 AM

Did anyone who else ordered this have the confirmation that it would come on the 27th? I ordered it with it saying that the estimated arrival date is tomorrow but every time I go to their site, it says that it has not shipped. I was wondering if anyone had insight to how staples updates their information page, I have never ordered from them before.

Corrosive 11-26-2012 09:43 AM

Ok, well I just decided to contact staples through their chat and they confirmed that it will be at my door by tomorrow.

wethead4 11-27-2012 11:17 AM

What is everyones feeling on the battery? Considering returning it b/c it barely gets 4 hrs.

Corrosive 11-27-2012 08:03 PM

I am kinda thinking the same thing... battery life is short and the fan is super loud. I like the computer overall though and I am really debating keeping mine. So how does a return work if I ordered mine online? I think I read that the window is 14 days from purchase... I have a 256 SSD that I am hoping comes in soon so I can install that and see if that helps with some of the noise (I am a law student so I am in the library where people give you bad looks if you are loud at all).

Corrosive 11-30-2012 04:54 PM

Just in case anyone is wondering, returning to a Brick and Mortar staples was no problem. I just had to let mine go, low battery life and annoying fan really did me in. The straw that broke the camels back was when I had not used the computer all day (left it in my laptop bag the entire day after charging it all night) and I went to watch some netflix in bed. It fired up, then powered down and would not turn back on. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but turned out that it just needed power. Maybe something was wrong with mine, but eh... bye bye twist.
