You think one could buy this now and then come back in and get a refund for the diff?

stino2004 11-10-2012 06:58 PM

Anybody know what internal drives these have and if the cases are easy open?

atoneapone 11-10-2012 10:09 PM

average up down reviews...might be best to wait longer & spend more on a WD drive.

That's the wrong HGST Touro Desk drive OM is selling the Product Model HTOLDX3NB20001ABB http://www.officemax.com/technolo...ultCount=1

This looks like the same HD the was part of the (Tue. Nov. 7) 4 hour OM sale for $80 http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/8...hard-drive I'm glad I decided to wait for the BF deals to be posted I have $50 in rewards and I need a new HD so I'm looking at this deal. I like the USB 3.0 & 7200 rpm, I don't like the only 1 year warranty and it looks like it hard to open the case to take out the drive without beating it up.

The only reviews I found are these: http://www.amazon.com/Touro-Deskt...ewpoints=0

I'm in the same boat as you with $50 rewards. I think i'm going to jump on this too. Just looked at the OM website and it looks like this will be available online too. Any clue as to what time it will go live? Probably 12:00AM, but what timezone?

Not sure if the one you posted is the correct one. The J&R website says it's 5400 RPM. It should be 7200 RPM. Perhaps it's just a mistake on J&R's part.

I checked 6 different stores including Buy.com and 5 of them says it a 7200 RPM drive inside. Officemax list the drive as Manufacturer #: 0S03394 which is listed on Hitachi web site as model number HTOLDX3NB20001ABB

Both of Hitachi's 2TB lines are excellent. In my experience installing thousands of drives into RAIDs every year the HGST 5K3000 2TB has the lowest failure rate of any consumer drive (and beats a lot of enterprise drives). The 7K model is in the same boat, having failure rates lower than all of the WD lines I've dealt with (though the Reds might beat them out, but I haven't gone through enough of them to say). These also RAID exceptionally well for consumer drives.

5400 vs 7200rpm depends on the specific Touro.
