Do you think there will be better deals around BlackFriday or closer to xmas?

Oh.Y.Not 11-07-2012 06:17 PM

Thanks, was waiting for the price of this to come down. Great lens.

I doubt it. This particular lens has been so popular most places run out the moment they have stock, so any BF deals are most likely on other lenses. No reason for any vendor to blow this out since they can even sell this at MSRP.

Edit: Amazon price dropped to $311.98.

Ships from and sold by Amazon.com.

Only 13 left in stock.

Amazon is out of stock, however DependableResource (fulfilled by Amazon) still has a few in stock at 305.68. You don't get the 2% back in rewards, but I saved paying sales tax which is a better deal.

Thanks alohajoe

Good deal. These were going for over $400 back when Panasonic didn't bother to stock the USA with any lenses.

Update: Amazon is in stock and price dropped to 305.68!

I have had this lens for a few months, and it has quickly become the default lens on my camera. Really sharp, very fast (f/1.7). If you have a micro four-thirds camera and want a good prime lens that gives you that standard-wide angle of view, you can't go wrong.

$305 is a great price, the best I've ever seen on this. Lenses also generally hold their value very well, so if you use this for a few years and want to resell, it should still fetch a very good price.

I went for the more expensive Panasonic/Leica 25/1.4, which had a price drop 2 weeks back. I like the size and wide angle of the 20mm but I just can't stand the noise and slowness of AF. If compact size is important to you and you don't care too much for fast AF and you don't do a lot of video, then this is an excellent deal. Ebay is selling them for around $250 for used so $305 new with 1yr warranty is awesome. Like someone said, invest in lens as they keep their value well. Also, it is the lens that is more important than the camera. I would recommend the 25/1.4 if you can afford it as it is a fantastic lens. My favorite of the m43 right now. Saving up for the Oly 45/1.8 to complete 14/2.5, 25/1.4 set of prime.

norazi 11-07-2012 09:12 PM

best all around prime lens IMHO for any portable system camera

i also have the 25mm leica which is slighter better but costs more than double the price

i just "upgraded" to the nex-5n and honestly the lens selection is severely lacking for that camera, im waiting for the sony 35mm f1.8

markbrannan 11-07-2012 09:33 PM

went out of stock again just after I had it in my cart...dependable resource has their price up to 374.18 now

The price on the leica 25/1.4 through amazon is now at 499 but it seems like it will allow backorder from amazon if you pick through the list of merchants:

jini12 11-07-2012 10:56 PM

This was 299 a while ago.

reltoolman 11-08-2012 03:20 AM

373 now... crap i missed the deal

I actually plan to do quite a bit of video as well as pictures. Why is the 25/1.4 better for video? Is there really that much more noise on this 20mm compared with the 25mm Summilux?

The only reason it is better is it doesn't make a lot of sound during video shooting when focusing. Besides that, I wouldn't know. I was only comparing it for stills. It focuses faster and is sharper. If you are using it mainly for video, then you should get a wider angle lens and shoot it manually. You should also look into the 14-140mm lens as it is more versatile.
