This tv is junk. Wouldn't take it if amazon paid me.

scott78945 11-08-2012 07:13 PM

We bought a TCL brand 27" last year for my fathers bedroom and couldn't be happier. No problems at all and very clear.

I own a $2K+ Panasonic V-series plasma. I appreciate a top quality TV and have never been less than thrilled with my TV. That said, my girlfriend's parents have a 40" TCL that they got from Amazon for two hundred bucks. It doesn't hold a candle to my TV, but it'd perfectly fine for most people's purposes. They have been thrilled with it. I would never discourage someone from getting a TCL.

ArleneMcGinty 11-08-2012 09:03 PM

Love my TCL 40" 120hz

Maybe you missed my point. I was saying that the guy who said this TV is junk in a moron. TCL is absolutely fine for what most people want out of a TV. And I was saying it from the perspective of someone who owns a TV that cost 10 times as much just to make the point that it's not that I don't understand or appreciate a high-end TV -- but rather as someone who does and still thinks it's ridiculous to call a TCL TV junk. They aren't junk. They aren't high-end, but they're AOK for what most people want out of a TV.

But thanks for your sarcasm. It really contributed something to the conversation about this TV.

Parachute07 is a problem boy. He is always looking for the problem and fighting with other people. bad attitude from bad breed.

Zechs19 11-08-2012 11:29 PM

Low contrast ratio but I have heard good things about this brand for a lower end TV. Just thought I would bring up the glaring fault.

BeerMeThatDisk 11-08-2012 11:40 PM

I have the 40" TCL and did so because I saw all the positive reviews they received online. It also uses a Samsung panel but in notably cheaper housing. I have a Panasonic G20 as well for comparison and I love my TCL.

I do not know much about this TV or its panel, but I have been impressed with TCL. 2 year warranty is a plus as well.

How would this brand compare to Westinghouse and Vizio? Trying to get my dad a 32inch for the bedroom. I saw a Westinghouse one with LED and it looked pretty nice and quite cheap ~250+tax. Will be waiting for BF thought. Thanks

I just emailed them and requested that they don't pay you to get this tv, and they replied and confirmed that it is affirmative. They are not going to pay you. So one less thing to worry about.:wave::wave::wave:

Just out of curiosity, what kind of power consumption does a LED TV of this size consume?

I have never heard many good things about Westinghouse and Vizio in my experience is hit or miss, they need to be taken model by model.

I tried a TCL 40/42(Think it was the 40) inch one that was at a great price (posted here)last year and returned it as the picture was OK not great and the speakers were horrible.

SlidingBike 11-09-2012 06:53 AM

Stop the TC all you junkies.. if you hate it.. walk away to another thread.. I've been using TCL TV around a year, its more valuable than what I have paid for it(effectively $190 for a 40" LCD TV with Samsung panel, using my HTS for audio).

sarcean 11-09-2012 06:55 AM

TCL is one of the few, if not the only brand I trust for cheap tvs. They use Samsung panels and the quality is top notch.

WookyStyle 11-09-2012 07:10 AM

If the 55" is a good deal at $699, how do people feel about the 48" (odd size?) for $479? I try not to pay more than $10 per inch (insert sexual innuendo here) and the 48" comes right in at that mark.

I just got an open box Toshiba 50L2200U from Best Buy out the door with a 5-year warranty for $630. I absolutely love the picture but am looking for better deals while I can still return to Best Buy. Any thoughts?

TCL is a great CHINESE brand, YES from evil , red china...the same country that makes every other tv from every other tv manufacturer....i have 2 TCL tvs in my store now for 3 years, no problems whatsoever , they run for 10 hours each day

i would not buy a westnighouse for sure. i have had bad experience with it. it broke down on us. and i have seen a lot of blogs that had the same issue. when u turn it on the colors are good but after a few mins they are really dark.

i have not seen to many unhappy vizio owners. i have never owned one though.
i just bought this tv and will tell u when i get it from amazon next week. the reason why i jumped on this deal is..
1. Its amazon.
2. Its cheap as hell compared to any other 55 inch 240hz tv.
3. you can use discover points and redeem the points. (i saved almost 200) plus u can get the 5% off for online shopping from certain discover cards. being from tx, that is another 25~ish.
4. 2 yr (limited) warranty! (it will prolly cost me a lot to ship but will still be cheaper i hope)

I just hope the tv is good enough. not expecting it to be the best. (expect the pic quality to be the same as cheaper brands, westinghouse, vizio etc.)

Chrisv006 11-10-2012 08:10 AM

VESA mount compatible? Seems much better than the Samsung 55 from dell on BF.

gururise 11-16-2012 12:13 PM

12ms response time. Seems quite high to me, could it be a typo? Even 60hz TV's usually have an 8ms response time, with the 120Hz mostly around 4ms and a Samsung 240hz at 2ms response times.

12ms response time would certainly generate a noticable blur effect. Can anyone comment?

After reading more reviews, it seems nobody has complained about blurring. While its possible the response time is 12ms, I'm thinking it must be a mistake.. as what's the point of running at 240hz if your response time is still 12ms?

dmjones 12-04-2012 10:31 AM

I currently have a Westinghouse LVM-42W2 manufactured in 2009 (before their quality control disappeared) and have absolutely loved it from day one. Never had a problem with it (although, the LCD panel is beginning to show signs of consession). In fact, I use it as a comparison when looking for a replacement.

I picked up at Seiki SE461TS for $350 down from $700 as a replacement. It had a nice picture but the high-gloss screen and 15-20 second boot time was a dealbreaker and it was returned.

Are there specs like this I should look be looking for to avoid having to go through the headache of returning an item (especially one this size)?

Likely a typo. Mathematically, a 120hz refresh rate must have a pixel response time of less than 8.3 seconds. This is important to me because I have an eye condition where I see cascading RGB "tracers" when the refresh rate exceeds the allowed response time.
Disclaimer: This statement is based one experience, not fact.

I bought a 42 inch LCD TCL for my parents and it is 10x better then the 42 inch LCD Sharp i bought myself (should have kept the TCL for myself)

I then bought a 40 inch LED TCL for my girlfriend. That TV is alot nicer then most LED's I have come across (LG & Panasonic)

The TCL brand is highly underrated and the two I bought came with 2 year warranty's.

This price is a steal

bowhunter 12-04-2012 11:06 AM

Go to their (TCL) website and download a manual for this model. I did....
Under specs it says its a tv with channels. NOTHING about pixel response, resolution, brightness, contrast, etc....nothing....
The Amazon page does list some specs... and they mention a .6" bezel, but under width without stand it comes up to 6.5". ....but never trust what you see on Amazon under specs, half the time, they are wrong.
