This post can and should be edited by users like you :)

This unit does not have Amazon Instant Video app. It has Netflix, Vudu, Accuweather, Youtube and Picasa apps and that is it. No access to LG appstore to install more apps. Called LG customer service to see if there is any way to access the LG appstore and they said no. If the apps it comes with are sufficient for you, it is a great unit. - By a owner.

A pro is that the unit is quite compact and takes less of my entertainment center space. Con is remote too is very tiny and not too easy to handle.

SOLD OUT

Setting the remote to work your TV:
Hold down the TV POWER button, and press the appropriate numerical button, then release the TV POWER button.
LG = 1 or 2; Zenith = 1, 3, or 4; GoldStar = 1 or 2; Samsung = 6 or 7; Sony 8 or 9; Hitachi = 4.
These codes are all that are listed in the manual (online).
Still it is handy to be able to do the TV "volume (but not instant mute), power, channel change, and av input change" from this LG BD remote.

This is 69 bucks at Amazon and Best Buy, regular price. I doubt it's a $68 Black Friday special.

hrehmel 11-09-2012 03:47 AM

I added it to my cart and it is "on sale" for $59.99 right now.

ranran 11-09-2012 05:52 AM

Can this play netflix/amazon and other online streaming content? the description doesn't specifically state, other than 'wireless', but I would presume that to be the whole point of having wireless access? Or maybe just stream from a media server?

flyingroach 11-09-2012 06:23 AM

Via LG Smart TV for access to Netflix, Pandora, Hulu Plus, CinemaNow, YouTube, vTuner, AccuWeather, AP News, Picasa, Viewster, funspot, Daily Motion, Aupeo

Nice, was waiting for a 3D blu-ray player for around $60! Glad I had a free ShopRunner account too! Thanks OP!

mrcoolcat 11-09-2012 08:12 AM

Definitely a good price. Wondering how different this one is compared to the lg bp620. Did LG release this product just for the holiday season? I can hardly find any reviews on it.

On Amazon it's $69.99 + > $5 shipping from a third party seller. Amazon has never carried it themselves.

This product is currently $59.99 with free shipping. Savings of at least $15, or 20%. Pretty decent.

the509 11-09-2012 09:46 AM

Good price for a decent brand with 3D and wireless. Just wish I could find a few reviews for it.

Yea, this is what I am looking for as well. According to the Walmart ad, it is the BP325 for $68 so unless the Walmart one is a different variant than the BP325W, this is a better deal. I may pick this up.

The Sony one at Costco will be $69.99 or less on TG/BF. I wonder which one is better.

Edit: I just found Costco raised the base price. The BX59 was $109.99 with a $20 instant off yesterday. Now it is $129.99 with a $20 instant off. So with the $40 off on the ad, it will be back to $89.99 again. :-(

I'm wondering whether or not there will be a better deal than this on Black Friday. Last year i bought my brother the Dynex BR player for $50. It was for his kids room so I figured a Dynex would suffice, and much to my surprise, the unit is actually pretty good. At any rate, what are the known BF deals for BR players that will be available online? So far I see the Samsung E5400 listed at Sears (and a couple other stores) for $69.

Over at Bfads the list shows an LG unit with Built in wifi at Kmart for $60 on BF. I'm guessing it's this unit. Any other known BR player deals on BF? Online deals that is. Between gas, taxes, and the hassle, I like most SD'ers, do not trek into any stores. I sip my coffee and shop from the comfort of my PC on BF.

Here is what I've found regarding this devices access to the Premium smart app market:
On page 45 of the manual (see pdf here: http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-BP325W#) it does say it has access to the LG premium market (where I initially DL'ed the Amazon video applet for my LG 3d tv). So it may very well support that now- if it doesn't now it may later-

Yea, I'm with you I'd rather buy now online than gamble with a nightmare in-store BF purchase attempt or wait for a maybe deal. If the same model pop-ups cheaper I'll use CC price protection.

It has WiFi Built-In (vs Wifi Ready). So it should be good to go without a WiFi adapter.

WiFi Ready = You need a additional WiFi Adapter.
WiFi Built-In = Means just that. The wireless adapter is built-in.

It looks like this is the European model. At Newegg's site, they have a product link but it looks to be Austrian. It seems like it can read NTSC discs but my only question is that will work with NTSC HDTVs? Anyone have any experience with this model?

If you were just going to hook it up to a smart tv, then there'd be no point in buying a smart blu ray player.

If you zoom in on the backside of the player to the right, it says Region 1, which is for USA and Canada.

I've been looking for a wireless blu ray for a while now and this seems one of the better deals i can remember, plus no dealing with the public on BF.

Good deal!

BuffaloSpeedway 11-10-2012 09:12 AM

I bought the LG BP520 at Frys last week for 59 bucks. I've been looking for a better deal and hoping Black Friday will yield some deals but I can't imagine finding too much better of a deal than what I got, especially if everyone is excited over this current Newegg deal. Happy to be corrected if I'm flawed in my logic.

Where do you see that it won't read NTSC discs? The only thing that I see is that it mentions (on neweggs site under specs) NTSC to PAL conversion, which would actually mean the opposite of what you say (to me that means it reads NTSC and converts it internally to PAL).

I would certainly hope it can play NTSC. From what I can tell from the specs it should definitely play NTSC and if it doesn't I will be making sure I get ALL of my money back because it is not clear that it wouldn't.

well it might be as much as $15 more but figure no lineups, no getting to the counter only to see OOS. No gas, free shipping and no tax.

How many 3D players with WIFI and a player that basically plays every format you can throw at it for under $60. LG is a good name. The BP620 that this model replaces was a 3.5 star player, hopefully this one is improved.

poohbie 11-10-2012 10:32 AM

The Blu-ray players keep getting cheaper in build quality. No more screens and touch-sensor front buttons, cheaper remotes, etc. Do the chips inside at least outperform the popular ones from 2-3yrs ago like the Samsung BD-C6500? Or has it just been about cost-cutting since?

Yeah this isn't a region free blu-ray player. Each player has a region code imprinted on the back and will only play the discs that have that match that region code. You won't know what region code until you get it sadly.

First time I've seen an external power brick for a DVD/BluRay player. It'll at least be easier to replace if it ever dies...doesn't seem to happen often with name-brand players, but I've had 2 internal power boards die on off-brand players (RCA, Terapin).

I have this unit. It does not have Amazon Instant Video app. It has Netflix, Vudu, Accuweather, Youtube and Picasa apps and that is it. No access to LG appstore to install more apps. Called LG customer service to see if there is any way to access the LG appstore and they said no. They said LG BP620c has 3D and access to appstore.

Baguda 11-10-2012 11:12 AM

I'm looking for a new 3D Blu-Ray player, but I haven't researched them enough. I read this whole thread and apparently there are only a few user reviews of not much help, so people are assuming this is at least as good the BP620. Someone said that you could download the Amazon app on the BP325W too, but the post above just said you couldn't, so I don't know who's right. Having Amazon and Netflix is very important to me.

If it had the Amazon app, I'd jump on this deal except I haven't had time to study the BF ads to see if there will be any better or cheaper 3D Blu-Ray players. With Newegg I generally consider once I order something, it's mine forever because they usually have very strict return policies (or restocking fees or "replacement only"). If I'm going to blind buy a Blu-Ray player, I'd prefer a nearby B&M so I can return it if I'm unsatisfied.

So, I'm going to pass on this deal unless someone knows for sure that it has the Amazon app, there will be no better 3D Blu-Ray players for sale over BF/the holidays and that this player easily matches Panasonic, Samsung and Sony Blu-Ray players in terms of speed and picture quality.

Unfortunately my Samsung BD-D5500 3D Blu-Ray player I got for $30 at Sears doesn't support Amazon, but at that price I was able to live with that. The region doesn't matter to me because I only buy movies within the US.

Weird, all the specs show it having access to the premium apps, and the BestBuy link even includes HuluPlus and Amazon in the apps section. Guess I'll just get it and see, and if it doesn't have what it says, then I'll return it

So checked with Tiger direct Customer support where they have same item and they have said this player will play with PAL TV SYSTEM since it has coversion function from NTSC to PAL.

Signal system : : Standard PAL / NTSC colour TV system ( i got this info from MANUAL)....

Ebay cheapest bluray 3d player "new" start from 75$+.

Used ones are 50$+.

Seems like a good deal.

I bought the LG BP620 some time ago to tide me over until I could lay the cash down for an Oppo. Its been nearly a year and I have no plans to go to the Oppo anymore. If we are strictly talking video quality for Blu-Ray playback, there really isn't a need. Most reviews agree, including a recent one by Consumer Reports.

You know that's weird as I'm reading the very same manual from LG's website and it states what I quoted earlier, just Standard NTSC TV system. Then again, this is a US manual. Did you get it from here [lg.com]?

thats totally weird too...the manual that was posted here i was able to open it and it says only NTSC!

and the manual Tigerdirect.com here it is (http://static.highspeedbackbone.n...Manual.pdf) it has BOTH ( PAL and NTSC).

I was confused too and how ever on newegg site under features they mentioned coversion from NTSC to PAL

the manual versions are same as well :)

Very weird...since the Specifications ( on Page 55 on Tigerdirect site manual) and Manual attached with this deal( Page 58 ....)

I did not checked LG USA site.

Ahhh, front page of that manual from TD shows it is the manual for the BP325 and BP325N, not the BP325W

doesn't play .avi files??? Which brand of Blu-ray player is the best at playing ALL the files format out there. I know Sony doesn't support .avi or .mkv files. I mainly use it to play downloaded files such as .avi and .mkv torrent files

Does it interfere with playback of MKV files, avi files or any other downloaded content? thanks

Yes. If the apps on it are sufficient for you, it is compact and loads up reasonably fast. I just finished watching Avatar 3D in it. Flawless.

I tested Youtube as well and an HD video loaded up without any buffering and looked great. I don't have Netflix to see if that app works well.

Checkout the photos in the Picasa app's homepage. Some of the shots are out of the world.

Also, thumbs up for LG customer support for being open on weekend and patiently researching and answering my question about LG appstore support on different units.

I needed it today. Plus, if something happens and I needed to return the Blu-Ray player, I know dealing with Fry's would be a lot easier than dealing with NewEgg. The headache of having to wait for a response, shipping it back, waiting some more, etc. Just more peace of mind by buying it from Fry's.

Also wanted to just let everyone know that I was able to get it at Fry's hassle free.

It means it will not play backups sourced from a cinavia protected dvd or blu-ray. Most players made before 2012 will not have this problem.

Sony added it to the PS3 with a firmware update earlier this year. Since it requires hardware most pre 2012 players are safe.

Here is a partial list [slysoft.com] of cinavia protected discs and blu-ray players.

My comment says that it CAN read NTSC discs.

I did asked LG Support via email asking if this player can work outside of US ( especially PAL ) - and they have informed it cannot play :(

So i have called NEWEGG and cancelled the ORDER!

RandomDealz 11-11-2012 06:49 AM

Not to start a controversy, I called the 800 number just to verify that the player didn't have Amazon Instant Video before cancelling with newegg, and was told that none of the newer 2012/2013 blu-ray players and some of the TV's don't include it, though there will be software/firmware updates in the next month or so to add it. The person I talked to put me on hold for five minutes, and assured me it will be an added feature for this player. Apparently the 325 is being marketed for Black Friday by multiple retailers. I'm still a little skeptical, knowing people have been told different things.

I'm in the market for a BD player or two, my main concern is if Cinavia will prevent me from playing MKV (MP4, or AVI) files that comes from a Cinavia DVD/BD.

I'm used to backups being physical discs (DVDs, BDs), but I am not sure if MKV, MP4, or AVI can be considered backups as well.

Thanks.

From my conversation with LG Sunday, this model was made and marketed specifically for Black Friday. I hope it stays in their lineup after the holidays. The rep I talked to also said they would be adding Amazon instant video soon with an software update.

Insouciant 11-14-2012 08:38 AM

I received it and am testing it out. Yes, Cinavia present. Yes, it does play SOME DVDs marked region 5 and region 2. (I have not attempted to hack or change the unit from default USA region 1 as shipped). It did play a handful of "files" I threw at it either from a "data" disc or from USB connected drive. There's support for subtitle files but I didn't get that working from the few I had available to try.

The unit arrived with firmware 7.717 so I did the update to newest 7.720 I didn't notice any changes. It still provides (from the front menu page) access to Vudu, Netflix, Youtube, Accuweather. No Amazon (yet?) but if/when that arrives it will be welcomed. I took a "chance" on this as I really want Amazon and not Netflix...

I was able to set the remote to operate my TV - there are very few choices, and you have to dig in the ONLINE manual to find them. I'll put the info below and add it to the wiki.

It has a 10/100mbps ethernet connection, and 2.4GHz Wifi G and N built in. There is no 5GHz band support. I didn't use the Wifi but ran mine to a gigabit switch which confirmed the 100mbps wired connection.

Pro - the unit works. No real complaints. price was great, but clearly these are "cheaply made". I am hoping my bet that it will do Amazon is fulfilled soon.

Con - WITHOUT the remote, you can do nearly nothing. Front panel buttons are only for power and eject, NO PLAY/PAUSE button even! I have not tried to see if universal remotes support this player yet. The front panel display shows only one thing (usually time). Didn't come with Amazon support.

----
Setting the remote to work your TV:
Hold down the TV POWER button, and press the appropriate numerical button, then release the TV POWER button. LG = 1 or 2; Zenith = 1, 3, or 4; GoldStar = 1 or 2; Samsung = 6 or 7; Sony 8 or 9;
Hitachi = 4. These codes are all that are listed in the manual.

Yea, it DEFINITELY DOES HAVE BUILT IN WIFI. I just set mine up yesterday and it took me like two minutes to get it set up to connect to my wireless network. I am not sure how you can miss that it has wireless, when you go to the setup it clearly shows both options on the setup guide.

My unit keeps telling me to "for wireless network, please install the router". Then it says "There is no network to connect", even though my wireless router is one foot away.
From the menu, it's difficult to determine whether the wireless within the unit is functioning -- there are no separate settings for wired or wireless. If the hardware's installed, it does not detect either of my wireless networks.

You must have a faulty unit. My unit detects both of my routers (one of them being about 60 feet away) and it picks up a neighbors signal. So it definitely works, but yea I saw that message too that said to install router, so it is a poor choice of wording, but there is nothing extra necessary.

samboy 11-15-2012 07:11 AM

Received mine yesterday and set it up........ Looks like a nice player and will use heaps less power than my PS3!

Picture quality looks very good and it played some MKV's and TS (MPEG2 free to air recordings) from a USB stick without any issues.

I'm confused as to whether this supports DLNA or shared folders........ does anyone know if this will work? (at least I couldn't get it working)

I should also add that it plays back region free 50i BluRay's from Amazon UK.

I suspect that this can't be used as a media server since:-

1. I could not get it working (but easy to not have permissions set right either)
2. It does not list DLNA support on the connectivity specifications (like other players that do)

I posted a question on the LG website to clarify if this is supported or will be in the future.
No big deal for me if it doesn't as I can keep using the Patriot PBO media player I have (just be nice to only have one device)

babyjay8495 11-15-2012 05:59 PM

I plugged mine up today and the wireless works well, but also noticed the lack of amazon.

jferree 11-15-2012 07:49 PM

Everything I read about this one says it has Pandora, even LG's website. Got mine today, and it doesn't have much of anything! Very disappointed. I have an LG smart TV and only thing it's lacking was Pandora.

samboy 11-16-2012 06:05 AM

For anyone that cares, I received an official response [lg.com] from LG on DLNA and accessing shared mounts.

Looks like we are out of luck for any support (including future) for this capability

Insouciant 12-08-2012 09:25 AM

new firmware upgrade (from 7.720) to 7.782 on December 5, 2012. it doesn't seem to change anyghing - was hoping it'd add Amazon video but this latest firm ware does NOT yet.

Do note that upgrading from the older "shipped" firmware to the newer ones (this 782 or the one before) substantially speeds up netflix navigation and general operation and is well worth doing!
