thanks for the post, i just purchased the combo for my gf.
I end up getting the inner circle membership since there are some nice deals popping up lately.
i got the set last time with the ssd for $200 AR, it was the same case. i really enjoy the case is nice& simple but sleek.

198four 11-11-2012 09:37 PM

This should FP soon. Not bad at all! A pretty decent quad core PC for 100 bucks.

Yeah, it's a pretty nice case. The processor alone has a value of about $70... so it makes everything else only roughly $30.

actually wanted to ask around about the case! btw, how loud/quiet is the system?

rockydbull 11-11-2012 09:42 PM

wow op great find with this. Probably the best computer you can build for this price for a while. I would be all over this if I did not want to migrate my systems from AMD to Intel for efficiency

Pretty good combo! Not as good as the lenovo outlet sandy bridge's but not bad at all, definite fp material.

What do you guys think of this in terms of upgradability/performance? I don't play games and mostly use it for mildly resource intensive programs like MATLAB, Illustrator, etc.

I only have my laptop at home so do everything at work, but this looks like a great and cheap way to set up a workstation at home. Appreciate the feedback in advance!

Foladar 11-11-2012 09:57 PM

Almost too cheap to pass up, but shipping/tax kill it for me being in FL (and the fact that I already have another PC halfway built off really cheap parts). Great deal for people needing a budget build, though, with BF coming up, could probably finish it up there.

Efficiency? This combo is smoking efficiency and exhaling bargain smoke. Great combo for regular Internet/office use. Fantastic deal if you need it!:bounce:

Thats the only downside about amd builds, for this peice your already getting almost the top end processor the next one up is the x4 955 (which i currently have for about a year) and Phenom II X6 1045T.
the ram is already great enough, i have build about 25 desktops so far for friends, family & client and so far 8gb is all you need. even with heavy gaming. i have went up to 16 and it didn't make a difference except a nice number to look at. the only upgrade that makes any difference at this point is getting a ssd.
other than that, your set and i guarantee you can run those programs with no hiccup because i have ran those progs b4 and even done some heavy gaming on mines with no problem at all!

sorry I meant power consumption. This is overkill for the internet and office stuff I do and is a power hog compared to a nice g540 mini itx setup

how hard is it to build a computer? i'm fairly computer savy but for some reason never attempted to build my own system. I have a spare dual core I can use for parts. can I just swap everything out and put into this? i guess only thing would be power supply right? hard drive and dvd i've swapped out plenty of times. also pci video card and such.

Hardly a upgrade for me (on a E8400 Core 2 Duo), but I'm tempted to switch over to it so get some extra ram (only on 4gigs and don't want to overpay for more DDR2), be back on AMD, and to have a much better upgrade path in the future.

So how long does it usually take to get the money from the rebate?

No problem. Credit should go to the first person who posts the correct price.

Your original thread said $160 AR, but as you pointed out by your revisions, you changed it at 11:21 PM.

I posted a new thread with the $99.99 AR price at 11:25 PM. Thus, I was a re-post and credit goes to you.

I didn't know if you were still up or not or I would have just PMed you to change the price. (I can't tell because your little Blue man next to your username doesn't show when you're on. :P)

You are out of your league if you can't read the specs.... Not a system worth adding a "decent video card" to anyway.

Most rebates for me take around 4-5 weeks, with some of them up to 8 weeks. Never had a rebate take longer than 2 months yet.

But ive only done around 15 rebates in total xD

fairly simple, pick up this [newegg.com]
and your set.
the case comes with a power supply. make sure your harddrive is sata, otherwise get ide to sata connector and same thing for the dvd rom.
if is more than a few years old, pick up a new harddrive from staples clearance external hd deals.
i got a 1.5 tb external from staples for 16 bucks the other day, just gotta open it up and put it in.

If I bought this bundle kit, What other cpu parts are needed to complete the build?

Oneill5491 11-11-2012 10:20 PM

I am desperately, DESPERATELY, trying to find a reason to buy this (I know, I'm breaking the cardinal Slickdeals rule), but with 10 computers in the house (e.g. server, gaming desktop, power efficient desktop, laptop, netbook, tablet, media center PC, et. al.), I'm finding it exceedingly hard to pull the trigger. I just..just...I CAN'T!!!!

How could there be $23 in taxes?

Your pre-MIR subtotal is $159.99.

Unless Naperville/Chicago's tax rate is 14.46%... I think something's not adding up there.

All you need is a HDD and Optical Drive and you are set. Everything else is included. You may want to upgrade the GPU but don't go too overboard or you will need a new PSU as well.

Needed? Hard drive, Monitor and an operating system.

CD/DVD Drive and wireless card if you want but not necessary.

There have been some good deals recently for windows 8.

You just need a HDD or SSD if all u want is boot up the system.

If u want better performance, u can get a cheap video card.

If you want this for light gaming, you can get a cheap 7770 around 90ish when they go on sale.

This a really nice pc bundle and the price is really good too.

ohh, and windows :P (which u can get for free, if u know what a mean xD)

#2 you can always resell it on craigslist and get rid of an old harddrive Along with old dvd-roms for profit!

However, the RAM rebates would not work for the second one. Each chip has a $20 rebate, there are two of them, and the rebate has a limit of two.

If you buy the second one, it will cost $140R.

anyway, question from a first timer:

only spare HDD I have is an SSD...I know I'll need a mounting kit since this is a desktop, but will I also need cables?

Hmm.. The X4 945 is a 125W part. you could probably squeak any video card under 150 W if you're not running a crazy amount of hard drives. If you're gaming I'd avoid the 7770 and go for one of it's beefier brothers.

The Radeon 7870/6870 or 7850/6850s are probably the best bang for your buck. The 7 series is slightly faster in some benchmarks and has less power consumption but I wouldn't pay more for a 7850 over a 6850.

anyway, question from a first timer:

only spare HDD I have is an SSD...I know I'll need a mounting kit since this is a desktop, but will I also need cables?

I'm planning on getting http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6817997013

The other thread didn't get deleted. The issue is who gets credit for it.

It was originally shared by 3 people at the incorrect price ($160 AR) - sr71, calistyle, and bluguys. Then, those users changed the price after the fact. Calistyle was the first to modify his price...(to my knowledge) as I was in the middle of compiling a thread with the updated price.

For all the details, you can just look down to post #4 on the original thread. For some reason, calistyle's post isn't on top, as he should be the OP.

X4 945 is 95 watt

From Biostar site:

A780L3B Ver. 7.x

Socket AM3
Supports AMD Phenom II / Athlon II Processors
Hyper Transport Technology up to 3.2G
Supports AMD Cool'n'Quiet Technology
It is recommended to use 95w CPU
Supports BIO-Remote 2 Technology
Supports Charger Booster Technology

Not a good idea to upgrade to 125W 955

I think for 160 it would still be a pretty good machine as long as you got some spare parts already laying around. But if you are pretty good at rebate tracking, TD will submit your rebates back, just have copies of everything, scan it via PDF into your desktop and when they say anything, email them your scans and rebates will be processed.

When you do the rebate you can specify the quantity you're claiming. Never put two rebates in a single envelope.

iluvu4eternity 11-12-2012 12:57 AM

thanks, okay i will keep that in mind when sending rebates in. 4 items = 4 differ envelops

When it comes to multithreaded applications, Phenom II X4's are on par with high end Core 2 Quads, actually a little higher and under a Core i7 920. So it would be a decent upgrade. Even single threaded it should be around Core 2 Duos.

Very similar deal for $99 after rebate here [tigerdirect.com] Main differences seem to be this one has OEM AMD Athlon II X4 640 Quad Core Processor but comes with Thermaltake CL-P0503 70mm CPU Cooler. 4GB RAM instead of 8GB. Only $40 in rebates instead of $60. Which deal is better?

1. It is the correct rebate. 760G is just the chipset type. Model # matches.
2. TD rebates are as good or better then any others. Follow the directions and keep copies.

SATA Drive - yes. IDE - no. No IDE slot for older DVD or Hard Drives. You can buy one of those IDE-SATA converter for a few $s, but they don't work very well. SATA DVD RWs can go as low as $12. Keep an eye for it.

Baguda 11-12-2012 05:58 AM

I saw this last night before I went to sleep. I would've ordered one of these combos except it's from Tiger Direct with rebates. I've heard too many stories in the past about people having problems with their rebates, though I've never tried myself due to the stories. I'm not sure if it's just that TD won't lift a finger to help you with a rebate (unlike Fry's or Newegg) or if the rebates from TD go through someone else. I just know that I have to figure any rebate on a product from TD has a high probability of not being paid.

I also know from experience that Biostar doesn't pay its rebates unless you go through get lengths and hassle. I would've never gotten my last Biostar rebate if Fry's had taken over the issue and forced them. When a company like Biostar doesn't pay, I try to avoid products by that company. Now had this been a Newegg deal with a different brand of motherboard I would've been all over it.

Man, I am glad this is out of stock again. I bought this bundle when they had it for $145 with rebates (it had an ULTRA case instead of the one they are offering now). Piece of cake to set up but the MB is small and only has one PCI slot and one PCIe slot. Still a decent combo for $145. For $110, it is a steal. Took me all of 15 minutes to put it all together and works like a champ. Remember to get thermal paste thrown in if you don't have some lying around at home. Put in a SATA hard drive and a DVD and off you go.

Wrong. The processor is more than fast enough for like a HD7770 or even a 7870. Only question is the PSU. If it is accurately rated at 450W, it can power these cards no problem.

I concur. I would stay away from them as well but I still think the CPU, MoBo, RAM, and case is at least still worth it. None of these cheapo power supplies are worth a damn.

Sorry for the noob question, trying to upgrade a 5 year old pc, which out these two would be ideal for me. I already have the PSU, monitor, key board, and extra RAM. I don't have a new graphics card, but my old pc has a graphics card that I installed not too long ago. I also don't want to get rid of my old HDD, I have a bunch of music and documents in there. Can I transfer my data from my old Hdd into a new Hdd?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated it. Thanks!

You could just use your old HD in the new build. You may need an extra HD to either install the OS on, or to transfer files to from your old HD. Perhaps you have or know someone who has an external HD, that would make the process very easy; Just transfer all important files to the external before you build the new PC, then just reinstall windows on the old HD, and then put the files from the external back on your old, newly reinstalled HD.

MrScientist 11-12-2012 08:38 AM

for everyone holding off on the 640 combo... it seems that some 640s can have their l3 unlocked to make a phenom. you can't do it with this board, but you could attempt to do it with another board that has the core unlocking option and acc in the bios.

also, i'm assuming the 945 is the c3 rev/95w since this board only supports 95w cpus.

additionally, in the real world, you probably won't see much difference based on the absence of the l3. they didn't have the 640, so i used an athlon and a phenom both at 2.8ghz... http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/105?vs=81.

is the old hd partitioned? if it is then just transfer it to the second portion and format the first one with a clean windows install. for me, i always put a second partition for this very reason.

I believe the 945 is way better than the 640..and it also has 8gb of ram instead of 4.. but its oos anyways

Well it is missing a PSU... I stand corrected, but realize that the bundle does not come with one.

AMD Quad Core 4GB DDR3 PC Kit $99 AR @ TD

65529 Attachment(s)
http://www.tigerdirect.com/sector...a-_-CatId_

Alternate link [tigerdirect.com]

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. Literally everything to build an AM3 system other than a HDD/SSD and optionally a graphics card, all for $100.

Amazing budget system for the price.

Oops, didn't realize. I searched "AMD Quad Core 4GB DDR3 PC Kit" and nothing came up. My bad!

If it had DVI or HDMI, i'd be on that deal. Nice one for peeps that do not need it tho :)

You could always get one of those cheap low profile cards that always keep popping up. This one for example.

albundyhere 11-12-2012 11:36 AM

not bad! i paid exactly 4 times more 4 years ago for something similar! (i got a decked out fx flagship board, 965 chip, faster ram, ocz 650w psu in a combo from new egg)

i wouldn't say "way better." see my post above.

RyanL 11-12-2012 12:05 PM

Not a bad deal at all. This is even cheaper than microcenter's deals. Pair this up with a GPU like a 7770, hard drive, and another 4GB stick of RAM and you'll have an alright system for gaming. If I already didn't have a bunch of stuff laying around I would buy this just for the spare parts.

j_ten_man 11-12-2012 12:10 PM

Glad I got in on the FP deal this morning. Same price but more ram and better processor.

ShinraRasengan 11-12-2012 12:13 PM

Whats the difference between their applications and sectors link, seems like the exact same model... I dont shop TD enough to know....

Some clarification on the rebate submission:

Even though you are claiming rebates for a total of four (4) products, two (2) are for the same product/rebate offer, so you should only be mailing a total of three (3) separate forms in three (3) separate envelopes.

The Corsair Memory Rebate [4myrebate.com] has a maximum of two claims per household. During registration, make sure you select the maximum quantity of two, and they will be combined on one form. Attach both of the UPCs to the single form, and mail it in one envelope.

The other two rebates for the bundle will be on separate forms and need to be mailed in their own envelopes.

Hope that helps. :)

Why does it have to be Micro Motherboard? It's hard to install big ass GPU, heatsinks.

sid4q 11-12-2012 01:00 PM

really tempting deal, but no gigabit LAN is a let down for me...
Not this time.

Thanks OP!

What's that got to do with the motherboard size? The main difference in motherboard size is more features, especially slots or ports. Don't see how a small motherboard get in the way of your large GPU.

Ummmm to be honest I don't really know what that means and don't even know how to do that lol. Yeah sorry, I'm still in the process of trying to learn as much as I can. It's an old Sony viao desktop, that I bought like 5 years ago. It's decommissioned right now, haven't been able to get it to turn on. Don't know what could be wrong with it, when I turn it on, it just boots up quick with all the fans spinning super fast and doesn't even show any image on the monitor. Don't know of I damaged a component while I was trying to replace an old PSU. I hope I didn't damage anything. So I figured i just waste some money on new components to upgrade it, instead of taking it somewhere and have them charge me like 100 bucks just to tell me that I damaged something. That is why I was looking into buying one of these base kits, I don't need a high end pc, something decent to surf the web, do some projects and maybe some light gaming.

EJG 11-12-2012 02:28 PM

Buyer beware...both of the bundles listed do NOT have gigabit LAN even though the second one's description says it does. Both motherboards are 10/100 LAN only.

pvdlr 11-12-2012 03:16 PM

Hi, I am about to buy the second one there. I am new to barebone system building. If I order the second one, what else do I need to get it working other than a hard drive and the OS?

Sorry for such a noob question.

Thanks in advance.

Mr.Ritz 11-12-2012 03:27 PM

Wonder if I could build one or two and sell them built for 200 or something

Anybody know which version is the PCIe X16? Is it 2.1 or 3?

Thinking about get a video card for it. Does it worth a standalone video card?

thanks

Is this barebone kit better than a Dell dimension e520 ( pentium d820 cpu) or a dell inspiron 519( amd athlon x2 4450e cpu) or an emachines with t5062( amd thlon 64 x2 3800+).

These are the computers I use. Should I get this kit and sell all three for $150? Any input appreciated. Thanks.

They are all OOS, so it is a moot point.

But yes, this kit will be much better than your old computers.

I think it will be a nice upgrade...but with that said, I'm not sure if it's worth the time to buy this just for profit...not saying u won't make profit, but I dont think it'll be much

Will a video card that takes up two slots fit? For example:

GTX 560 [newegg.com]

Also, is there a pci-e power cable from the PSU? Thanks!

I meant to sell all three computers which has like 2 gig ddr2 ram in each for a single good computer. Thanks.

Thanks for the info! Repped!

To answer your question...just staying alert for BF Deals ;)

Update: This PSU doesn't appear to have the pci-e power cable though...seems to be the best video card is the HD 7750 then.

Considering that this is a HELL of a deal.... Yes

You won't find too many worthwhile cards below 100 dollars.

would this thing have been faster than my e8400 overclocked to 4.0Ghz for gaming? Most games would be first and 3rd person shooters and space sims like x3 (egosoft) Thanks!

Could be a bad RAM stick. If you have more than one RAM stick, try booting up with just one stick installed in the first slot. Otherwise, you could try to borrow a second stick from a friend. Just make sure that you get the correct RAM format (DDR or DDR2 - I don't think that DDR3 was widely available 5-years ago).

Anyways, in 4 one on the original deal.
