Probably the same as last year. The "ok" deals were presented as lightning deals that started the Sunday before Turkey Day. The way better deals were on Thanksgiving, or more so on BF (a lot of really early ones, too).

Some of those deals were a ***** to get last year. Amazon's site stalled on a few. Only time I've ever noticed it! Good to know I don't have to freeze my bum off with the rest of the knuckle heads standing outside BB on Thursday night!

Need that $97 32" for a gift, wish we knew the time each TV deal will go live.

Anyone know how good chances are of getting the 60" tv for $688??

I know the chance of getting the walmart 60" for $688 was about zero, unless you were one of the first people in line, but how about the amazon one? I mean, do we have to literally sit at the computer all day on Thanksgiving waiting for it to just suddenly pop up in order to get it? Will there be any advance warning about when the tv will go live?

TV's were pretty tough ,come by last year, sold out in about 15 seconds or less. Still about as good odds as actually going out in my opinion.

It's a "special" add that only applies during the deal timeframe (usually 2 hours, never takes that long to sell out).
Also as time gets closer, they are start posting lists with go-live times. At least they did this with movies and video games (but I think all depts?) That's why the really good deals sold out in seconds. Everyone was hovering in front of their computers!

The only BF I did last year with items that sold out quickly was Amazon:D:D There's a few other secrets, but I'm afraid if I say, that will worsen my own chances:)

Amazon puts out a list of each days sales & times, with teaser info and then a full reveal as it gets closer to the time. A quick scour of the internet usually gave me pretty good info as to what items where probably when.

Yes, usually a day before, or on the day it will go live, in the morning the lightning deals are posted, you get a hint, like 60" and $688, that will be our clue for the vizio. it will have a go live time, and so you just need to be ready at that time to get it.

Exactly. Amazon previously did a lottery type deal where you won a special offer then had a few hours to buy at that price - they should do that again as 99.999% of us have no chance of getting any of these deals.

I have two vizio tvs. One a a smart tv. They get great pictures and I can not say enough good things about their us based customer service. Not very many apps available if that is what you are looking for. Check out yahoo tv apps.

Anyone know about the quality of the Hiteker 50"? I have a 50" Sammy Plasma that is about 5 years old, but all of the HDMI and component inputs are dead, therefore can't hook my PS3 up to it anymore. Will probably cost a pretty penny to get it fixed.....

You add to cart, once it is in the cart, you have 15 minutes I believe, to check out with it. You can either check out in that time frame, or do nothing, after 15 minutes the tv will be removed from your cart and someone on the waiting list will get it. The most popular items always get a waiting list, because even in that one second, way too many people click to buy it. Plus some people have scripts and other things and literally add maybe 10 tv's to different computers and then just end up buying one or two. Anyway, hope this explains some of how the lightning deal works.

Why the rush? With lightning deals, the item is in your cart for 15 minutes, if you click and it is added, you have it for those 15 minutes guaranteed. There is no need for 1 click ordering.

Not necessarily. Many people just put it in their carts the second it goes live, and then have the 15 minute timeframe to check out. I've seen a couple deals last year where people failed to check out and those folks on the waitlist all of a sudden had a second shot. Can never hurt to waitlist an item and sit tight afterwards if you don't get it right away.

Only if the deal window hasn't closed yet. If you put it in your cart 5 minutes before the deal window closes, you have only 5 minutes to check out (instead of 15). I don't think that there's a practical relevance to this on BF though, since the deal window is usually an hour and the items are usually gone within minutes.

Lol, these deals will be worse than lining up at the main stores for bf in terms of availability. Instead of dealing with 100 people in line you will have to worry about 1000's on amazon, clicking trying to get the same item you're after.

No, it's highly doubtful they have enough for all SDers. Things will be sold out in <1m guaranteed, as long as their server holds up. Even bad deals sold out quickly last BF.

Yep, I'd say maybe half of all people on SD, maybe a bit less, get the product as desired. Odds aren't terrible, but the number of people online rises each year, so it could very well be worse this year.

I was hoping they would price match the 70" sharp from Walmart for $1800. Weak.

Amazon came nice with the T.V deals this year.
I was considering the 40 inch Toshiba as well from bestbuy since its a brand name and once seeing that amazon will also have the same 40 inch toshiba for $179 I got excited - but after notice the 42inch TCL - I came to realize that its is actually a much better deal than the 40 inch toshiba. Its 2 inches bigger first of all, full hd 1080p as well, has a thinner profile then that 40 inch Toshiba or any other 40-42 inch Flat screen from any of the other stores, and lastly it has 2 year warranty instead of a 1 year warranty that come from most flat screens at this price range and higher, and from what I hear TCL uses quality parts.
The 50 inch Toshiba from Sears is the best deal hands down - Im going to try to get it if I can - but if not then no big deal - The 42 inch TCL is perfect and its $179 shipped tax free to most states compared to $299 Toshiba LED from sears which after tax would be around $330, thats around $150 of savings - can use that money and add another $20 to buy a second 42 inch TCL Flat Screen for $179.

So long as they are 1080p they should, I wouldn't recommend going down to 720p personally.

Also make sure your computer has hdmi out, as this is key to a quality experience.

If you dont ever want to view text, it will be fine as a monitor. If you even occasionally want to read text, i would not recommend this.

You can convert DVI if you don't have an HDMI port on your PC. The image is still digital.

Televisions sizes are measured on a diagonal of the screen size, not left to right width and not on the total diagonal size of the tv.

I know that this is asking a lot but I'm completely confused and need some help. I want a 55 or 60 inch LED, 3D TV with wireless and some apps (but not really important about the apps -- I can get those elsewhere). This will be mounted on a wall in a room that often has a lot of natural sunlight. I would prefer matte, or at least distractedly shiny. I am on a budget and would like to get the most for my money but will pay a bit more for better quality.

Somebody please make some suggestions so I at least have a fighting chance next Friday and don't end up taking it back because it doesn't work for me. Thanks a lot.

I know a little off topic but with these deals out there for LED, LCD and plasma. Which make is better? a friend of mine has a samsung LCD and the movement is so cool when people/things go across the screen compared to my older panasonic plasma. are new plasmas do the movement thing? or should I steer towards LCD and LED?

Calm down, they ran out of stock a few times on the 40" TCL last year, before the lightning deal at $199.99. Amazon knows how to ration and control stock so they have what they plan for the deal.

Amazon terms and conditions allow for one account, be careful there bud, don't draw attention to yourself, they are watching, and could very well perma-ban you from their store. lol.

I don't have 10 accounts, but I do have mine, plus my mom and sister who I can get to try and add the tv to cart as well. Last year 2 of the 3 of us got the TCL 40" added to cart, I suspect this year should be fine, but you never know.

I should point out that the Panasonic Blu-Ray player is shown as a 3D player on the site that the OP linked to, but the link for the product itself goes to a 2D player that likes to break if you look at it funny. If it is really supposed to be a 3D player with WiFi, then the only player it could be is the DMP-BDT220. Someone screwed up. Either the BF deal site, or Amazon. I seriously had my hopes up for the 3D Panny, as I was planning on buying one anyways. :(

EDIT: Rather, are these guaranteed deals on BLACK FRIDAY? I guess the times aren't known, but on that day for sure?

Amazon is doing a WEEK of black friday. These deals posted with prices are supposed to be lightning deals over the week, most likely on thurs through saturday if I had to guess, but some could be sooner or even a bit later in theory. The deals without prices may just be regular prices, or deals that drop the price temporarily for limited stock, but would not be announced lightning deals exactly.

Watch what you're buying, a lot of Black Friday TVs are a lower quality TV made for Black Friday.

Actually LCD, and LED are one of the same. LED is the type of back lighting on the majority of 40" and up LCD TV's. Even LED lighting can vary from edge lit, to back lit. If you are talking about motion blur, when referring to your friends set, Plasma's have historically outperformed LCD in this category. As far at what's the best, you will find opposing opinions, for varying reasons. Not all LCD and Plasma sets are created equal. Sometimes you have to narrow it down to specific models in each category.

Don't want to list any item specifically but through some googling I managed to find the link to one of the BF ads for their tv's by accident. Now if I tried to search the tv on their site the page wound not come up so it seems that amazon has put some type of block to hide the BF pages but I can assure you I managed to find the ad. I will try doing this for other BF items but just letting you all know so you can try your luck at doing this and confirm that it works. Also this page specifically stated that it was a BF limited time item.

Yes I did. I will not give away which tv for obvious reasons since its one I'm considering getting but I'll hint at the fact that the tv is not listed in this thread of already stated leaked tvs.

No offense, but if it's a lightning deal, it will be announced in the morning of the day the deal happens, or the day before even. So it isn't like we won't find out about it well before the sale price goes into effect.

Yeah you can search yourself and I know odds are against everyone. The nice part is it gives you the option to be notified when the tv is available. Good luck all.

I see there are going to be deals on the samsung, panasonic and vizio. What are the pros and cons of these makes? Is getting the samsung LCD/LED worth the price?

the 50/50 won't, the fiber will, ping is most important in communicating quickly with the servers. Though I believe they are based in cali, which gives those of us on the east coast a bit of a disadvantage, but that never affected me last year.

Perhaps not. What you can do is run a DNS benchmark and update your DNS if your ISP is giving you slow DNS servers and/or bad routes.

Really liking the idea of the 60" Vizio for my new living room tv, but am optimistic I'll be able to get one if it is one of those Lightning deals. Last year all the tvs were selling out in seconds.

TV's are measured diagonally, so assuming that the diagonal is measured by a^ + b^2 = c^2 (c^2 being the diagonal and b^2 being the width) and the assumed 16:9 ratio...

b = 47 - 4(for the screen border on both sides, assuming worst case) = 43

a = 43*(9/16) = 24.1875 (the height of the tv, not including stand, but I'm assuming the height is not an issue)

c = sqrt(24.1875^2 + 43^2) = 49.3360 inches

So you can use a tv up to 49 inches without worry unless it has an obscenely large border along the side edges. If the border is only an inch on each side, you could do 50 inches.

As far as I'm concerned a Plasma is a better picture if you're not looking for the TV to artifically "pop" in terms of colors and brightness. The drawback is in a room with any amount of natural lighting plasmas seem to not do so well. LED/LCDs have that pop that Plasmas don't have. I actually like it even if it isn't the most true picture.

Great question. As far as I know nobody knows for sure yet. I just got one from Sams Club but I was 10th in line and my Dad was 11th. I have to go to Wal-mart if my Dad doesn't get one from Amazon... I really want to get one from Amazon.

so I saw this tv under the lightning deals:

right now it is at $1497.99. Will it go any lower when it is in the lightning deal? Because the tv went down by about $300

I'm pretty sure the tv's with prices are the lightning deals, ones without are just good prices, $1497.99 is the cheapest this tv has ever gone. Maybe it will go lower for some lightning deal, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't look like it.
