It seems the link is redirecting to main Lenovo website now for some reason. Maybe they're updating the outlet. I am not sure.
OOS :( |
OOS now move on....
|
The link is working fine. And shows 48 left
|
I am able to add it to my cart. Seems like a good deal to me? Why the thumbs down?
|
17" is a too big though. Any 14" onsale?
|
This is more of a portable desktop than a laptop.
|
wow good deal
|
ordered one, I am thinking if I should keep it..
|
oos. no go
|
OOS... unless I am missing something...
Nice find just the same |
seems like a crazy good deal. am i missing something? i never see those specs this cheap. i wish i had some extra cash.
also, i show three left. |
already sold out
|
ordered 1, thanks!
|
just keep refreshing. Someone has them all in the 15 minute cart
|
another one just freed up
|
wowwww
|
Darnit, showed 3 in stock, added to cart created an account and carts now epty and despite saying 2 in stock it's got no inventory :(
|
is this a good deal? i havent been up to date.
|
just purchased one, didnt do much research...was this even a good deal?

Quote:
no i did. Recieved email confirmation. I did what the earlier person said and hit refresh and show 7 in stock. I then added to cart and guest check out. Now im just trying to find out if this was a good deal. I havent been following laptop prices in awhile. Total was 506 with 8 dollar recyle fee and about 35.84 tax . |
Just got one. I think I got lucky. Saw there was 1 left so I saved it to my cart real quick.
Keep refreshing. Another might pop up |
3 more just popped up snagged one...
|
Says 4 left right now
|
To those asking I think it's a pretty good deal... core i3's with GMA graphics, smaller hd and less ram going for $80 or so less so the upgrades are very reasonable.
If you really only need a web browser and write some word documents, those i3's are gonna be fine and save you a few bucks, but for the price... I think it looks really good. |
now says sold out...
got one in my cart, got all the way to checkout and order now but then for some reason it got removed from cart (5 minutes) got chat rep on but shes not responding after asking for my name sad |
anyways, what do these normally go for?
|
Quote:
|
Says $80 savings so normal price is about $80 more I guess... so not a smoking deal in that aspect but compared to everything I see being sold like this it seems pretty hot...
I also suspect that $544 price is already a discount because this is a win 7 laptop and not win 8. |
have one in my cart... can't figure out how to check out though..
|

I see amazon has a seller for it at 779 for the same system. |
Quote:
|
Are you all clicking some other *magic* link where it's not oos? I have been refreshing from the OP's link for the past 20 minutes straight and no dice... perhaps it's just bad luck
|
Quote:
the problem is that the product ID doesnt correspond to an actual product anymore because they are sold out. so you cant order something that doesnt exist in the system. i got all the way to the final order screen but then it crapped out on me i emailed the outlet to see if they can do anything about it. crossing my fingers! |
Quote:
|
Quote:
So the fact this hit the outlet and is even on sale I guess realistically it's about $250 below fair MSRP... that's my best guess... anyway definitely hot deal |

ffffffffff
it says 2 left but keeps going to this page cannot be found |
did you guys all get charged tax?
|
Just ordered 1. C*** my 17" Toshiba is only 1 year old. Couldn't resist. Thats what I get for hanging out here.
|

Quote:
|
man, hopefully there will be an equivalent deal sometime soon or im going to be pissed for making an account instead of going straight to guest checkout
|
Quote:
I don't know if you will get lucky still but if you want to try, click the little blue circle to the right of *g780 on the left of the screen, that will actually search again and not just refresh your page. Took me 10 minutes of doing that to get one. |
Quote:
|
Quote:
ok cool, yea mine was 35 + 8 recycle fee. |
fyi, just now got one in chat. says it is oos.
|
Quote:
|
Quote:
<sigh> Again, many thanks! |
Quote:
my experience is that shortly after they actually sell out (ie not just in someones cart) the product page goes away... but can't garauntee of course. If you choose to keep trying GL! |
Quote:
|
talked to chat rep, she said first to order is first to get laptop; the 15 minute save period in cart is false
she said out of stock |
Quote:
To all those who see OOS, definitely try to refresh... Better still do what I did and use the filter search criteria for 17" screen-size search laptop. Product should show up after 2 or 3 searches. Still show "2" as of 3 minutes ago. I got lucky and order one. Received email confirmation and order #. Good luck to all. Definitely a bargain @ $490.12 shipped (taxes included). |
Quote:
|
got one hope they have some i 7 too.. thanks.

Kept refreshing and got lucky. Just got order conformation, total with tax came to $491.30 to Illinois. This is exactly what I have been waiting for Thanks!

Can anyone tell a laptop with this configuration is a good deal to buy for $459 now itself. Or do I have to wait for BF? I checked the BF list and looks like the cheapest one in i5 is more than this.

Lenovo Outlet Bites
Cool, another Lenovo Outlet sale; NOT.
I'll continue to thumb-down every Lenovo outlet deal I see until they fix their lame website and inventory control. F:censord2:k Lenovo. Just sayin' |
I am predicting this will be on the front page of slickdeals. So far my predictions have held true. Let's see whether this one works out as well.
|
kinda sketchy, i ordered back on the first page, received confirmation # but the ship date went from 11/19 last night to 11/27 this morning...

Why is this so much better than the $899 Dell 15R SE? With the $75 GC plus 5% cash back, after taxes, the Dell is $300 more expensive than this.
But for that, you get: * i7 vs. i5 * Win 8 vs. Win 7; * 1080p screen vs. 900p; * 1TB + 32 SSD vs. 750 GB HD; * 8GB vs. 6GB; * I think a slightly better graphic card (AMD 7730M vs. 630 GT); * Blu ray player * more manageable screen size (15.6" vs. 17") For about $300, that's a lot of nice upgrades. |
Quote:
Quote:
Which gen i7 is it? 3rd Gen i5 is pretty decent. 1080p screen is nice but at 15 inch the improvement is probably limited - you can do more on screen at once of course but you probably won't notice an improved resolution watching br or anything. hybrid SSD is a plus assuming there are no reliability issues with it.\ Win8 vs Win 7 is a tossup if you want win 8. More RAM is nice but not worth much and not sure the diff performance wise will ever really be noticeable Not sure on vid card. At best I think they may both represent good values but I personally think the 17 inch is a premium and this is a very confident performance at a price most people can handle. |
Did anyone recieve their order yet?
Looks like they keep postpone the shipping date... http://forum.notebookreview.com/l...elays.html http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Lenovo Man, don't order from Lenovo, crazy company... |
Agreed dev
Only major advantage the Dell has is the SSD. Everything else is a non-issue to me. I don't need all those extra thrills that drive up the price. In terms of reliability, build quality, customer service, looks, etc... Lenovo wins. I mean sure, in terms of dollar to dollar value, they are pretty much equal. Difference is it's very hard to find a new machine of this power for under $500. I've been looking furiously. Difference is $388 for me btw, not sure how you came to $300. |

My ship date is November 18th and my delivery day is November 27th. Hasn't been postponed. |

Base price is $899. I purchased two $400 gift cards. With each, I got a free $75 complimentary gift card, so for a total of $950. In purchasing the unit, I joined their free "Dell Advantage" program which led to an additional ~$18 off as well as a 5% gift card (which comes a few weeks after the purchase). After taxes, shipping, etc., my total came out to be ~$943 which I used the gift cards to pay, leaving me with a balance of $7 on my gift card. With the 5% gift card (~$45), I have $52 left over after spending only $800 to purchase the system. I guess since I used a 2% cash back card to purchase the gift card, I will get $16 back from that so I really have $68 left over. $800 - $68 = $732. Now for the Lenovo, I would have paid ~500 after shipping and taxes, but I would have used a 10% cash back from Discover and gotten it back down to ~$450. Thus, difference of about $300. |

Whats the max RAM this'll take? Mostly I've read 2x 8GB = 16GB. In the minority I've read 2x 4GB = 8GB.

I'm not sure what my exact specs are but Newegg users say it supports 16GB. Dell would send detailed specs in your confirmation. I've been watching the outlet all week and nothing even close to this deal has popped up that I know of.
Mine just shipped! Ordered it four days ago so that's about right. Hope it makes it by next Friday. I'm putting an SSD in first thing. *secret tip: try getting the 10% off coupon, use another email or something, I have two. I sent it in after the fact and they said they'll deduct it, $450 out the door for this baby. |

well maybe I caught them in a good mood, I'll post when it comes through. I didn't get the exact config either so I hope they cut me some slack. I did learn there was a snipping tool in Accessories menu that worked great.

Mine got shipped too. Looks like no more G780 released these days from Lenovo Outlet, I've checked constantly from 8am each day, try to get another one... |

Customer number: 290xxxx Order number: 42883xxxxx *Exclusive one-time use coupon code: 313dOsxxxxxxx However I just got an email this morning rejecting it since it wasn't the exact config. I'm sort of screwed because like you said if I saw another exact config I'd buy another. They were quick to respond and it's still possible because they also said: " Unfortunately we cannot make a price match. We request you to generate a Cart with same and identical configuration as per the original order so that we can process a price match. You have a 21 day period from the date of invoice within which you can do price match, " It's so dumb, I proved my coupon was valid with the screenshot and should apply to other outlet items. I'm probably going to call them up after I have some coffee. I'll emphasize that I'm a former Dell customer and they will easily refund up to 10% automatically, I've done it on 4 or 5 Dell computers. Missed a lot of sleep this BF, more like Black WEEK. |
Ok I'm confused. Where can I get a 10% off coupon? And thanks for the heads up on the 21 day price match window.
|
No dice for me. Called Lenovo Post Sales Support and they said coupons cannot be applied to previously placed orders.
I got the coupon for signing up to lenovo.com. Click Email Signup at the top and they'll send you a 10% off coupon to your email. The terms of the coupon clearly say you cannot apply it to previously placed orders nor can they be applied to outlet store orders. So I didn't push the issue with the CSR. |
well I have it in writing so I'll keep pushing if they want a loyal customer and some good PR. Even without coupon it's a crazy good deal and it actually shipped out on time.
|
Just got mine :)
Looks awesome |

Another Dump Q: do we need to precharge the battery to full before use the laptop? |
Quote:
No need to pre-charge I don't think, but the guide said for it to be plugged in for the first use. First thing I did was burn a copy of the factory default recovery discs since they're not included. Took 3 DVDs and about an hour. Wife wants me to install Windows 8 (b/c it's pretty) so that's up next . Only $15 so why not. |

Program that pops up should guide you the rest of the way. Choose Factory Recovery discs |
Mine came a day early, love it. Quality is obviously better then the Dell 17R SE I returned. SSD is going in as soon as I update the OS, install MS essentials and remove some of the bloatware.
|
my windows performance index went from 5.1 with stock video to 6.7 with full-time Gforce and new SSD.
RAM is 2 + 4GB sticks, PC3 12800s. Will likely upgrade to 2X8GB if it's on sale. Such a waste with the 2GB taking space, I don't know if it's dual channel with two sizes. FAST and VERY QUIET, the way it should be. I downloaded the manual just to be sure I didn't mess up, plenty of access for upgrades. |
I managed to install Windows 8. Went mostly smooth. A lot of the Windows 8 drivers on Lenovo's website flat out didn't work. Got errors when installing. Funny enough, some of their Windows 7 counterparts did work. Didn't bother reinstalling any of the Lenovo software that came with it. But after a couple hiccups, Windows 8 is working great.
Benchmarks are a little better on 8 verses Windows 7. Passmark is at least 50 points better and the Windows Peformance Index went from 5.1 to 5.7. The switchable graphics are a little annoying. The GT 630M doesn't always activate when it should. I had to specifically tell Passmark to run using the dedicated graphics. Minecraft chose the right one though. If you right click on a program, you can choose to open it with either graphics card, which is handy. Such a great laptop for the price. Only complaints are the flimsy-ness of the lid and the screen glare. And maybe the keyboard size, but I knew that going in. Also the outside seems to collect finger smudges easily. As for the pluses, there's just too many to list: Price, speed, it's quiet, good battery life, weighs less than I expected, trackpad feels good, keys and buttons feel solid, keeps cool. Overall very happy. Definitely a slick deal @ $480 |

The good news is I probably already have a 4GB stick orphaned from a previous laptop upgrade. This laptop just came out in July '12 so I'm surprised if they limited it to 8GB, maybe a firmware update could fix that. Just speculating, new with Lenovo but so far I'm happy. edit, added info from the G780 data sheet, "upgradable to 8GB DDR" Quote:

Been playing Skyrim all day on high settings with no problem :) Video card is more powerful than I realized.
The bottleneck in this machines is definitely the hard drive though. Need to look at upgrading that. |

LOL Finally opened mine a couple days ago. Really like this laptop. The speakers are a LOT better & LOUDER than I thought they'd be. Had to wipe out the recovery partitions. Made Recovery discs beforehand to restore when it's time to resell. Because theres a 4 partition maximum. Don't know if it's a Win 7 or HDD limitation. Probably a Win 7 limit. And made a image of my shrunk C drive with the OS only. And a huge Data Storage partition D. Really nice laptop. Anybody else who has this want to update their G780 experience?
