It seems the link is redirecting to main Lenovo website now for some reason. Maybe they're updating the outlet. I am not sure.

OOS :(

mavv 11-16-2012 09:27 PM

OOS now move on....

CyberManiaK 11-16-2012 09:52 PM

The link is working fine. And shows 48 left

arichardtx 11-16-2012 09:56 PM

I am able to add it to my cart. Seems like a good deal to me? Why the thumbs down?

ti97 11-16-2012 09:58 PM

17" is a too big though. Any 14" onsale?

zhopa 11-16-2012 10:09 PM

This is more of a portable desktop than a laptop.

thebtran 11-16-2012 10:13 PM

wow good deal

yourr8 11-16-2012 10:17 PM

cjlindman 11-16-2012 10:41 PM

Bighonkylicious 11-16-2012 10:45 PM

cougnole 11-16-2012 10:49 PM

cougnole 11-16-2012 10:52 PM

Musgo 11-16-2012 11:17 PM

Devedander 11-16-2012 11:25 PM

the1gq2nvy 11-16-2012 11:26 PM

no i did. Recieved email confirmation. I did what the earlier person said and hit refresh and show 7 in stock. I then added to cart and guest check out. Now im just trying to find out if this was a good deal. I havent been following laptop prices in awhile. Total was 506 with 8 dollar recyle fee and about 35.84 tax .

davemoosehead 11-16-2012 11:38 PM

Just got one. I think I got lucky. Saw there was 1 left so I saved it to my cart real quick.

Keep refreshing. Another might pop up

Devedander 11-16-2012 11:39 PM

3 more just popped up snagged one...

davemoosehead 11-16-2012 11:40 PM

Says 4 left right now

Devedander 11-16-2012 11:42 PM

To those asking I think it's a pretty good deal... core i3's with GMA graphics, smaller hd and less ram going for $80 or so less so the upgrades are very reasonable.

If you really only need a web browser and write some word documents, those i3's are gonna be fine and save you a few bucks, but for the price... I think it looks really good.

amanrangan 11-16-2012 11:43 PM

now says sold out...

got one in my cart, got all the way to checkout and order now but then for some reason it got removed from cart (5 minutes)

got chat rep on but shes not responding after asking for my name

sad

the1gq2nvy 11-16-2012 11:43 PM

anyways, what do these normally go for?

Yea it is. It's been tough finding a 3rd gen intel with a decent dedicated graphics card. None of the black friday deals are as good as this. I'm happy. Was about to pull the trigger on the $899 Dell 15R SE.. glad I didn't.

Devedander 11-16-2012 11:45 PM

Says $80 savings so normal price is about $80 more I guess... so not a smoking deal in that aspect but compared to everything I see being sold like this it seems pretty hot...

I also suspect that $544 price is already a discount because this is a win 7 laptop and not win 8.

taiguy 11-16-2012 11:48 PM

have one in my cart... can't figure out how to check out though..

I see amazon has a seller for it at 779 for the same system.

I had that damn problem on my other computer. The checkout button was missing. It appears fine on my main rig, but I couldn't get the checkout button to appear. I am so conflicted with feelings of anger and remorse right now.

GeoNerd 11-16-2012 11:50 PM

Are you all clicking some other *magic* link where it's not oos? I have been refreshing from the OP's link for the past 20 minutes straight and no dice... perhaps it's just bad luck

had the same problem...

the problem is that the product ID doesnt correspond to an actual product anymore because they are sold out. so you cant order something that doesnt exist in the system. i got all the way to the final order screen but then it crapped out on me

i emailed the outlet to see if they can do anything about it. crossing my fingers!

A similar one with 500GB and only Intel Graphics 4000 is $599 on the main Lenovo website so I think fair MSR for this is probably close to $700 (Amazon sellers are often a bit high).

So the fact this hit the outlet and is even on sale I guess realistically it's about $250 below fair MSRP... that's my best guess... anyway definitely hot deal

Yeah there is no way that $80 savings is accurate. Definitely a $200-300 savings I'd say.

Try clicking the actual search button or holding shift while you refresh. If you just refresh the browser often times it will show you the cached page which may show OOS when it's not really or show stock when there isn't any.

OP's link didn't do anything for me. I just searched the store for G series, 17", with 6 GB of RAM.

amanrangan 11-16-2012 11:56 PM

ffffffffff

it says 2 left but keeps going to this page cannot be found

the1gq2nvy 11-17-2012 12:00 AM

did you guys all get charged tax?

zapjb 11-17-2012 12:01 AM

Just ordered 1. C*** my 17" Toshiba is only 1 year old. Couldn't resist. Thats what I get for hanging out here.

I certainly appreciate your responses. I did a search from scratch and when I click on the link for lappy it brings me to a, 'this product no longer exists' error page. Oh well. Thank you again, kindly, for the help.

amanrangan 11-17-2012 12:03 AM

man, hopefully there will be an equivalent deal sometime soon or im going to be pissed for making an account instead of going straight to guest checkout

I jus tried ops link again and it gets to the product page but shows oos.

I don't know if you will get lucky still but if you want to try, click the little blue circle to the right of *g780 on the left of the screen, that will actually search again and not just refresh your page.

Took me 10 minutes of doing that to get one.

Hi all:

To all those who see OOS, definitely try to refresh... Better still do what I did and use the filter search criteria for 17" screen-size search laptop. Product should show up after 2 or 3 searches. Still show "2" as of 3 minutes ago. I got lucky and order one. Received email confirmation and order #. Good luck to all. Definitely a bargain @ $490.12 shipped (taxes included).

It had 3 issues, USB 3 was crashing, Discrete video card was dead, and HDD was quite noisy. Also the feeling was mutual, when they pulled my profile I get a lot of flack and sick of being transferred 5 or 6 times. I use to like them and bought my tablet, smartphone, desktop and two laptops but I'm done with them unless it's a price mistake.

CyberManiaK 11-17-2012 03:37 AM

The screen on this one was to big for me.. But I order

Y470 refurb.

Can anyone tell a laptop with this configuration is a good deal to buy for $459 now itself. Or do I have to wait for BF? I checked the BF list and looks like the cheapest one in i5 is more than this.

Processor: 2nd generation Intel Core i5-2450M Processor( 2.50GHz 1333MHz 3MB)
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium 64
Display: 15.6" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000

That's way worse than this deal... The screen is horrible, the processor is 2nd gen, and the graphics are integrated. If you aren't looking to do gaming, you will be fine with a cheaper i3, or i5.

Cool, another Lenovo Outlet sale; NOT.

I'll continue to thumb-down every Lenovo outlet deal I see until they fix their lame website and inventory control. F:censord2:k Lenovo. Just sayin'

This won't be on fp because you can never easily replicate Lenovo deals. Your prediction is less accurate than even the weather man.;)

newnewy 11-17-2012 04:36 PM

Why is this so much better than the $899 Dell 15R SE? With the $75 GC plus 5% cash back, after taxes, the Dell is $300 more expensive than this.

But for that, you get:
* i7 vs. i5
* Win 8 vs. Win 7;
* 1080p screen vs. 900p;
* 1TB + 32 SSD vs. 750 GB HD;
* 8GB vs. 6GB;
* I think a slightly better graphic card (AMD 7730M vs. 630 GT);
* Blu ray player
* more manageable screen size (15.6" vs. 17")

For about $300, that's a lot of nice upgrades.

15 is a standard size screen so usually represents a lower price point (both 14 and 17 inch are usually a premium over 15 all else the same)

Which gen i7 is it? 3rd Gen i5 is pretty decent.

1080p screen is nice but at 15 inch the improvement is probably limited - you can do more on screen at once of course but you probably won't notice an improved resolution watching br or anything.

hybrid SSD is a plus assuming there are no reliability issues with it.\

Win8 vs Win 7 is a tossup if you want win 8.

More RAM is nice but not worth much and not sure the diff performance wise will ever really be noticeable

Not sure on vid card.

At best I think they may both represent good values but I personally think the 17 inch is a premium and this is a very confident performance at a price most people can handle.

Agreed dev

Only major advantage the Dell has is the SSD. Everything else is a non-issue to me. I don't need all those extra thrills that drive up the price.

In terms of reliability, build quality, customer service, looks, etc... Lenovo wins.

I mean sure, in terms of dollar to dollar value, they are pretty much equal. Difference is it's very hard to find a new machine of this power for under $500. I've been looking furiously.

Difference is $388 for me btw, not sure how you came to $300.

Difference otd here is $506 vs $979. Thats a whopping $473!

Here's how I got it down to effectively ~$750.

Base price is $899.

I purchased two $400 gift cards. With each, I got a free $75 complimentary gift card, so for a total of $950.

In purchasing the unit, I joined their free "Dell Advantage" program which led to an additional ~$18 off as well as a 5% gift card (which comes a few weeks after the purchase).

After taxes, shipping, etc., my total came out to be ~$943 which I used the gift cards to pay, leaving me with a balance of $7 on my gift card. With the 5% gift card (~$45), I have $52 left over after spending only $800 to purchase the system. I guess since I used a 2% cash back card to purchase the gift card, I will get $16 back from that so I really have $68 left over. $800 - $68 = $732.

Now for the Lenovo, I would have paid ~500 after shipping and taxes, but I would have used a 10% cash back from Discover and gotten it back down to ~$450.

Thus, difference of about $300.

Don't disagree. I probably would have bought the Lenovo had I not bought the Dell first (or been able to return the Dell gift cards!) and the Lenovo had still been available (they disappeared so fast). But just making the point you did which is that dollar for dollar value is equal.

or night owl as in my case. I've been up till 5AM the last few nights and deals like this make it all worthwhile. In my haste I didn't catch the specs so glad I found this thread. All I had to go on was the model number, hasn't shipped yet. I also got that $185 W8 Lenovofrom Frys BF. Probably flip the Frys since I wanted a discrete video card and 3rd gen i5. I think I'm done shopping, sort of burned out, deals are harder to come by. More desperate people out there to compete with.

Thanks. I thought the config in this thread was a bit different to linked generic config. The USB ports are 2 - 2.0 2-3.0 & Nvidia 2Gb discrete graphics. One part of me is saying good only need one 4GB stick to max out. And the tweaker in me is saying shucks 16GB would have been cool & had bragging rights. Silly.

monkeybiz 11-25-2012 09:40 PM

I'm not sure what my exact specs are but Newegg users say it supports 16GB. Dell would send detailed specs in your confirmation. I've been watching the outlet all week and nothing even close to this deal has popped up that I know of.

Mine just shipped!
Ordered it four days ago so that's about right. Hope it makes it by next Friday. I'm putting an SSD in first thing.

*secret tip: try getting the 10% off coupon, use another email or something, I have two. I sent it in after the fact and they said they'll deduct it, $450 out the door for this baby.

assuming you have the code they will ask you to take a screenshot. If you haven't got a code then maybe an incognito window might bring up the pop up offer. I think it's just for new customers but I used to emails to be grab an extra.

With regards to your query, we would like to inform you that we can process a Price Match for the 10% coupon on your order but for that we would be needing a Cart. you can create a Cart by following the below steps. Please ensure that Cart matches the configuration of the order. Please revert to us with the Cart once the order ships and we would have the difference of the Price Match credited on your account.

To generate a Cart-

1. Log onto website link at link www.lenovo.com
2. Go to the type of machine option.
3. Select machine type on website and
4. Click on view models
5. click on option customize and buy
6. Select the same configuration as per original order.
7. Click on continue.
8. Enter e-coupon if any.
9. Click on add to cart.
10. Send us the Snap Shot

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
seemed silly but I followed their directions yesterday. Haven't heard back.

I initiated it through an email to sales and wrote I forgot to apply. YMMV, but I'd call or write them first so they can work with it.

I'm not too hopeful about this. Here are the terms for the 10% off coupon

Offer details: Offer subject to change without notice and available to new email

The offer is something like this
Customer number: 290xxxx

Order number: 42883xxxxx

*Exclusive one-time use coupon code:
313dOsxxxxxxx

However I just got an email this morning rejecting it since it wasn't the exact config. I'm sort of screwed because like you said if I saw another exact config I'd buy another.

They were quick to respond and it's still possible because they also said:
" Unfortunately we cannot make a price match. We request you to generate a Cart with same and identical configuration as per the original order so that we can process a price match. You have a 21 day period from the date of invoice within which you can do price match, "

It's so dumb, I proved my coupon was valid with the screenshot and should apply to other outlet items. I'm probably going to call them up after I have some coffee. I'll emphasize that I'm a former Dell customer and they will easily refund up to 10% automatically, I've done it on 4 or 5 Dell computers.

Missed a lot of sleep this BF, more like Black WEEK.

zapjb 11-26-2012 12:47 PM

Ok I'm confused. Where can I get a 10% off coupon? And thanks for the heads up on the 21 day price match window.

davemoosehead 11-26-2012 01:07 PM

No dice for me. Called Lenovo Post Sales Support and they said coupons cannot be applied to previously placed orders.

I got the coupon for signing up to lenovo.com. Click Email Signup at the top and they'll send you a 10% off coupon to your email.

The terms of the coupon clearly say you cannot apply it to previously placed orders nor can they be applied to outlet store orders. So I didn't push the issue with the CSR.

monkeybiz 11-26-2012 01:49 PM

well I have it in writing so I'll keep pushing if they want a loyal customer and some good PR. Even without coupon it's a crazy good deal and it actually shipped out on time.

The system should automatically switch to the 630M whenever it needs an extra boost in graphics. Primarily using the HD 4000 will save a lot of battery power. You can manually designate certain programs to always run with the 630M by going to the Nvidia control panel>Manage 3D settings>Program settings.

No need to pre-charge I don't think, but the guide said for it to be plugged in for the first use.

First thing I did was burn a copy of the factory default recovery discs since they're not included. Took 3 DVDs and about an hour.

Wife wants me to install Windows 8 (b/c it's pretty) so that's up next . Only $15 so why not.

Mine came a day early, love it. Quality is obviously better then the Dell 17R SE I returned. SSD is going in as soon as I update the OS, install MS essentials and remove some of the bloatware.

monkeybiz 11-30-2012 04:45 PM

my windows performance index went from 5.1 with stock video to 6.7 with full-time Gforce and new SSD.
RAM is 2 + 4GB sticks, PC3 12800s.
Will likely upgrade to 2X8GB if it's on sale. Such a waste with the 2GB taking space, I don't know if it's dual channel with two sizes.
FAST and VERY QUIET, the way it should be. I downloaded the manual just to be sure I didn't mess up, plenty of access for upgrades.

davemoosehead 11-30-2012 10:17 PM

I managed to install Windows 8. Went mostly smooth. A lot of the Windows 8 drivers on Lenovo's website flat out didn't work. Got errors when installing. Funny enough, some of their Windows 7 counterparts did work. Didn't bother reinstalling any of the Lenovo software that came with it. But after a couple hiccups, Windows 8 is working great.

Benchmarks are a little better on 8 verses Windows 7. Passmark is at least 50 points better and the Windows Peformance Index went from 5.1 to 5.7.

The switchable graphics are a little annoying. The GT 630M doesn't always activate when it should. I had to specifically tell Passmark to run using the dedicated graphics. Minecraft chose the right one though. If you right click on a program, you can choose to open it with either graphics card, which is handy.

Such a great laptop for the price. Only complaints are the flimsy-ness of the lid and the screen glare. And maybe the keyboard size, but I knew that going in. Also the outside seems to collect finger smudges easily.

As for the pluses, there's just too many to list: Price, speed, it's quiet, good battery life, weighs less than I expected, trackpad feels good, keys and buttons feel solid, keeps cool. Overall very happy. Definitely a slick deal @ $480

If they are anything like Dell support then I wouldn't trust them. It was more wishful thinking on my part, no specifics to back it up yet. I'll look into it later but my thinking is I'd get 8GB sticks anyway for future laptops. I'll check later if I'm running dual channel with 2GB and 4GB mix.

The good news is I probably already have a 4GB stick orphaned from a previous laptop upgrade. This laptop just came out in July '12 so I'm surprised if they limited it to 8GB, maybe a firmware update could fix that. Just speculating, new with Lenovo but so far I'm happy.
edit, added info from the G780 data sheet, "upgradable to 8GB DDR"
Quote:

Up to 8GB DDR3 – 1600/1333Mhz memory [2 SODIMM
slots (1x2GB/2x2GB/1x4GB/1x2GB+1x4GB/2x4GB)]
and from the hardware manual
• DDRIII 1333 DIMM socket x 2 (max 4GB per DIMM)
So do you need both to be 4GB to get dual channel?

And Dell is a little annoyed with me. I didn't know you had to enable programs on the Nvidia card. It might have been a dead card since I didn't see the enable option and like you said Passmark didn't see it. Glad I returned the 17R SE and got a full refund. There were other issues with the Dell too, noisy fan and HDD. Turns out my flaky USB 3 was due to my Toshiba drive, not Dell port.

I agree, this is about the best bang for buck. Not top end but pretty close for the budget crowd.

Been playing Skyrim all day on high settings with no problem :) Video card is more powerful than I realized.

The bottleneck in this machines is definitely the hard drive though. Need to look at upgrading that.

Anybody has their screen just turn black and becomes unresponsive while using? I don't know if it's a driver issue or something wrong with the video card.

still shocked we were able to get a new one at half price. I was wondering if this laptop has WiDi tech and what devices/receivers work.

Maybe you were using some screen saver? Or virus?

I have one problem, watching Divx movie is a kind of blur, is this normal?

No not virus or screen saver. Screen just black out and become unresponsive. I am going to update the driver and see if it helps or not. If not it's going back to Lenovo. So far I am having horrible luck with their QC. One x230 already dead, one z580 for the relative has issue with BT Driver causing an error in boot up, and now this.

there's an i5 for $367, one left, no dedicated video....pooh
By chance has anyone even attempted to get a cheap $15 Windows 8 upgrade? Not that I want it but curious if we can.

I found the same issue recently, I remembered I had the same issue on one of my DELL laptop before.

I guess it's Windows Operating System issue, from the DUMP file log it says something related to Blue Screen, but to me, it's like a black screen, no matter what key I typed, no response, only thing to bring it back to normal is Hard Reboot....:(

Yeah, I don't know the extent of the issue or how serious it is since I bought it as a gift to a relative out of state. Hopefully it's not a MB or Video Card that need to be replaced as I already has a previous MB that just recently replaced on my x230.

LOL Finally opened mine a couple days ago. Really like this laptop. The speakers are a LOT better & LOUDER than I thought they'd be. Had to wipe out the recovery partitions. Made Recovery discs beforehand to restore when it's time to resell. Because theres a 4 partition maximum. Don't know if it's a Win 7 or HDD limitation. Probably a Win 7 limit. And made a image of my shrunk C drive with the OS only. And a huge Data Storage partition D. Really nice laptop. Anybody else who has this want to update their G780 experience?

I got a 120GB SSD in so some room to spare as long as I offload to my external USB 3 drives. Would like to up the RAM but can wait for a deal. The screen isn't bad but I use all externals - monitor, speakers, HDDs, keyboard and mouse. As an HTPC I'd have to tweak the resolution if I use with my 24" and 47" 1080p displays. Love this Lenovo and it came in under budget, haven't seen as good a deal since. Quiet and fast with good design and build quality. Installed PLEX and streaming everything everywhere.
