It varies. Some games uses the Steam DRM so you HAVE to use Steam. The majority of EA games all use Origin so you have to use that. A select few games will allow you to download and play it from Amazon--but also give you a steam key.

For example, Deux Ex Human Revolution gives you a steam key while Mass Effect 2 gives you an Origin key.

Hope this helps!

For what it's worth, $10 gets you 6 Thq games w/steam key. War hammer 40k space marine, homesfront, metro2033, stalker, a cpl. Red factions.

Depending on tastes any 2 of those are worth a Jackson IMO.

The $5 promotional gift after purchase (dunno if everyone gets that) made it less than a buck a game.

I'll buy that for a dollar! (I've NEVER said that...but it seemed appropriate, and a nod toward robocop can never be a bad thing)

ars9876 11-18-2012 05:19 PM

They had the $5 coupon last Jan. It was VERY useful. You can only use 1 coupon per game and they do not stack, but it made many good games only 2.50 (CIV 4) and a few games free(witcher). I recommend loading up.

alethia 11-18-2012 05:24 PM

Good deal with the $5 promo credit, if the game has it.

Order this product between now and 12/31/2012 and receive a $5 promotional credit good towards any of the "Editor's Choice" game downloads in the month of January 2013. You will receive an email with your promotional code and redemption instructions. Qualifying credits for this promotion may only be used one at a time.

RedZoneOS 11-18-2012 05:34 PM

i would hold off on dungeon defenders. it's on sale through steam regularly for 2.49, and generally bundled with all dlc for around 10 bucks.

Dimon1990 11-18-2012 05:37 PM

Does anyone know of Trine from amazon is steam activated? I have trine 2 from Mac App Store, looking to get the first one

MrCoffee 11-18-2012 05:42 PM

If you plan on getting DUngeon Defenders, you need at least the Summoner + EV DLC packs to complete the endgame content. So just wait for another sale on the whole package for 75% off and buy it then

JohnM8432 11-18-2012 05:44 PM

I noticed that The Jagged Bundle [Download] is $29.99, but if bought individually they are 12.49... Got to love sales that mark up the product over 100%.

Kotsu 11-18-2012 05:44 PM

Jet Set Radio ($4.99) is Steam activated. You can pick it up in this pack [amazon.com] along with four other games, although those don't activate on Steam.

jbonez21 11-18-2012 05:47 PM

Grabbed Deadly 30 for a $1.49; also came with the $5 black friday credit. Thanks OP!

naruto02 11-18-2012 05:47 PM

I couldn't disagree more about those $5 credits being useful from last year. I mean, they were nothing to complain about (especially since most of them that I got were for games costing $10 or less), but I had a hard time trying to find something to use them for. I had about half a dozen of those $5 credits and the list that you could use them on was very limited (it was named the best selling games of 2011). The newish titles on the list like Space Marine Amazon didn't want to put on sale while older games like Dead Space and Crysis (games I already owned) were free with those credits. I guess these credits are good for people who don't have a huge backlog of games. Maybe the list of games will be a little bit better this year.

bastafidli 11-18-2012 06:00 PM

Anybody knows if "Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum" comes with Steam key?

The list was decent at best IMO....I can see both sides of the party....one isn't happy that the list is good...and the other side being happy that they get a free GTA 4, Witcher 1, etc etc....The way I see it though, Amazon can't put on crazy deals on newer games, then add $5 promo on top of that...they just wouldn't be making any money....especially considering each and every digi download you buy during the 2011 holiday season, counted towards the $5 promo....Heck, I bought Shogun 2 DLC for 30 cents, and I got the $5 promo

I hope Amazon improves the list this year....if not, oh well, I ain't sweating...they already have great deals anyway, so I'm cool if I don't end up spending my $5 promo :)

I wasn't alone in my complaints. There were plenty of threads with SDers complaining about the list Amazon had with applicable games. Like I said, they named it "Best Selling Games of 2011", but had many older titles such as GTA4, Witcher 1, Crysis, Dead Space, etc, etc. Sure, I don't expect them to "give away" games, but they could've threw us a bone and put the newer titles on sale a little to make it worthwhile for the coupons. Yeah, I hope they have a good selection this time. I held off on purchasing a few big titles this year such as Sleeping Dogs, Max Payne 3, & Dishonored. I hope they put those on the list and have decent prices on them.

slickriven 11-18-2012 08:40 PM

That THQ deal seems the best, $10 for 6 solid games. Heard nothing but good things about Stalker and Metro 2033, I had Red Faction: Guerrilla on the 360, felt it was a great game, played the demo for Space Marines and have wanted the full game, and Homefront and RF: Armageddon were big budget games that didn't review as well, but are no slouches, especially for around $1.65

The rest... meh.

shaxs 11-18-2012 08:46 PM

I wish Mass Effect 3 for PC would go on sale soon...

Yeah, I bought Mass Effect 1&2 last year, and they gave me a key, but also an Amazon game downloader for Mass Effect 1 which downloaded the installer and the installer did not require Origin(In fact, the key could not be redeemed on Origin). Not certain about ME2's installer though (the ME2 key worked on Origin). So it could be hit or miss with EA games.

RavenSEAL 11-19-2012 12:42 AM

Do Burnout/NFS register with Origin?

RavenSEAL 11-19-2012 12:44 AM

Oh my god, SO MANY Old School titles on that list...

I also am wondering this

EDIT: Also the Dreamcast Pack seems to be sold out.

DOUBLEEDIT: Also does the Sega Classics pack have steam key(s)?

Note: The Sega Genesis pack does not seem to be able to install on Steam, or at least I didn't see a key for it. Just wasted 5 bucks, great.

Believe it or not, the games will play just as fine without Steam as they would with Steam.

Clearly Steam is not listed as a requirement anywhere on the page. Since Steam is DRM, they would list it on the page if it was a Steam key.

thanks, got rollercoaster tycoon 3 weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

On a different subject stupid work made me miss the Sega pack. :ranting: Now I have to sleep and I might miss it if it comes back.......I guess the silver lining is I don't think it will come back.........

jukie888 11-19-2012 10:41 AM

Does anybody know if there are any games on this list that will play well on a non-gaming laptop? i.e. I need something that isn't very graphics intensive (I have integrated intel graphics), but can play on a modern processor (I have an i3 2.26 GHz).

wangcho78 11-19-2012 10:56 AM

The real dark magic is how to keep those games on your list. Mine like to disappear with every other update.

Missed the Jet Set Radio Starforce bundle. Also, first-world problems.

You can set the file that holds the shortcuts to be "read-only" in the folder but you have to change it back to add any more shortcuts or they don't save. :lmao:
