In the pictures there is no power plug, it runs off the USB power.. which would mean 2.5"

Beware WD drives has the USB plug solder to the HD. If you're planning to take it out and use on another device, beware.

Its also USB3.0, so this is a poor assumption. USB3.0 provides enough power for 3.5" drives.

Not without breaking backwards compatibility. USB 3.0 devices such as this hard drive are meant to be backwards compatible with systems that only have USB 2.0. This is because a micro USB (2.0) cable can be plugged into the USB 3.0 port on this hard drive and then into a regular USB 2.0 port that doesn't have 3.0 capability. When you do this it simply downgrades to USB 2.0 speeds. However, even if USB 3.0 can support enough power for it, if they made 3.5" drive that were powered solely off the USB port, it would break this compatibility because the old USB 2.0 ports would no longer be able to support the drive at reduced transfer rates.

Note, I am not sure whether manufacturers have indeed gone on ahead and broken this compatibility that was originally intended in order to bring drives such as these to the market, but supplying the make and model of one for proof would definitely go along way.

You do know that this is a portable drive right? It's been a long time since it approaches this price. Even pre-flooding price, $50 is still hot unless you are clearance hunting.

I'm pretty sure you can use it on WiiU as that one requires an external HDD for additional storage as you cannot remove the internal one. However, I don't think you can use it on the PS3 as that one requires a 2.5" SATA connection, which this one doesn't have as it is soldered to a board. However, you are talking about media and movies through USB, then I am pretty sure you can, as long as you format it in FAT.
