To Answer Common Questions:
1) TigerDirect operates on Eastern Standard Time... so it is okay to order now (no matter where in the US you are located). Your order invoice will show the correct date to qualify you for the $30 rebate (11/21/12).

2) The Rebate Registration Form is LIVE now. TD-7767 [4myrebate.com]

3) The Rebate Limit is:
Limit (1) ONE rebate per person, billing address, company, or household

6% CB from BoA add-it up.

Free shipping didn't work for some on TigerDirect.com. Try CircuitCity.com (it worked for me)

Free shipping works if your address has the optional second Line BLANK - if you have something in second line, it somehow assumes that the address is not residential and hence charges shipping

teaberry 11-20-2012 09:54 PM

Hmm last time a similar HDD rebate deal on TD, ppl said it didn't matter. But to be safe, I waited until pass midnight CST last time too. Just got my rebates recently on that deal.

Beware WD drives has the USB plug solder to the HD. If you're planning to take it out and use on another device, beware.

Its also USB3.0, so this is a poor assumption. USB3.0 provides enough power for 3.5" drives.

During checkout, minimum shipping is $7.29.

Just buy from Circuitcity.com. Free shipping, and if you are in TX like me, no tax.

Maybe! LOL

I popped open a 320GB earlier this year and the thing has a custom plug on the drive pc board. You may or may not get the same.

Nope. The Elements SE line has a custom board on the hard drive. It is not a regular internal drive with an adapter.

Not without breaking backwards compatibility. USB 3.0 devices such as this hard drive are meant to be backwards compatible with systems that only have USB 2.0. This is because a micro USB (2.0) cable can be plugged into the USB 3.0 port on this hard drive and then into a regular USB 2.0 port that doesn't have 3.0 capability. When you do this it simply downgrades to USB 2.0 speeds. However, even if USB 3.0 can support enough power for it, if they made 3.5" drive that were powered solely off the USB port, it would break this compatibility because the old USB 2.0 ports would no longer be able to support the drive at reduced transfer rates.

Note, I am not sure whether manufacturers have indeed gone on ahead and broken this compatibility that was originally intended in order to bring drives such as these to the market, but supplying the make and model of one for proof would definitely go along way.

Nice find, OP. In 4 1 and repped.

I was eyeing some of the portable storage that will go on sale this week, but, since most of them will be on sale on Thanksgiving (and I refuse to call those "Black Friday" sales), I won't be able to take advantage of them... glad to have found an online option instead!

You do know that this is a portable drive right? It's been a long time since it approaches this price. Even pre-flooding price, $50 is still hot unless you are clearance hunting.

I'm pretty sure you can use it on WiiU as that one requires an external HDD for additional storage as you cannot remove the internal one. However, I don't think you can use it on the PS3 as that one requires a 2.5" SATA connection, which this one doesn't have as it is soldered to a board. However, you are talking about media and movies through USB, then I am pretty sure you can, as long as you format it in FAT.

try not to use the address line 2 option. I put the company name in () after address at line one, and doing so enables the Free-Shipping option. I have nothing filled in the business line as well.

Nintendo doesn't recommend using this sort of external hard drive because this is USB powered. They recommend using AC powered external hard drives on the Wii U. Here's a link: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/...toru_iwata

Quote:

Satoru Iwata (president of Nintendo) did outline that the best option is a hard drive with its own power source (ie a plug of its own); hard drives with two USB cables, or flash USB drives, come with warnings that they won't necessarily be the ideal solution, even if they'll technically work.

andy12345 11-20-2012 11:09 PM

Try to write your address on one line only, do not use the address line 2 option. see if this helps.

There was a giant earthquake in the part of the world where hard drives are manufactured. Commodity prices normally go down, but the trend can be disrupted when natural disasters intervene.

It's 5% cashback on online purchases but they shouldn't be able to see the $30 rebate part.

So on 80.

Rebates do not affect cashback and never will. So it would be off the $79.99

most rebates are like this now... rarely is it checks anymore... but its easy to take care of... use it in 1 transaction for gas, amazon credit or buying groceries...

but never use it for less than the full balance bc then its a hassle...bc you always gotta know the balance before using... cant just swipe it and it automatically take off whats left on the card.. then you pay with something else for the rest of the transaction balance...

Bleh, the answer is no. Quickly scanned 13 pages to see if anyone already brought it up:

The drive inside is 12mm and is natively USB [google.com].

Do not buy this if you intend to take it apart. If the microUSB connector goes bad, you're SOL.

For quicker rebate processing, they only charge $3. I guess the BoA cash back covers the cost! Not bad.

No-Wait: Choose our No-Wait-Rebate service. We will mail your Rebate payment via 1st class mail within 5-7 business days from the date of approval of your claim for a small fee of $3.00 which will be deducted from your Rebate payment. If you are in no rush and do not mind waiting 8-10 weeks and at no cost, we will mail your Rebate payment to you via 1st Class mail after we have received your Rebate documentation and have approved your claim.

Basic: Choose this for our basic service of 8 to 10 weeks.

That's a waste of money.

"No Wait Rebate Service" doesn't get you your rebate any faster.

Also, the rebate turn-around time is very fast right now at 4MyRebate.

I mailed some rebates for earbuds on 11/05/12 and received back my prepaid cards on 11/22/12.

This is with Basic Submission.

To get free shipping - in tigerdirect or circuitcity or compusa, just leave the line 2 blank on your shipping address.

I wouldn't trust the other cash back sites. They're tiered so you might end up getting 3% instead because it does not office furniture. I used discover cash back instead.

Got back two rebates ($20, $5) within two months in the past one year

Very tempting but it is TD and I swore not buy any more from them. They have the worst customer service ever.
