I have never seen a newegg rebate before this is interesting. I wonder if they pay them quicker than a normal company

hzh003 11-21-2012 07:20 AM

newegg rebates are good.

dot64 11-21-2012 07:24 AM

I prefer mine with a little A1 sauce and maybe some steamed asparagus on the side.

santiagoanders 11-21-2012 07:39 AM

I considered buying one of these because of the dual-band support, but it has horrible reviews. I bought a different dual-band model on ebay and the seller sent me the wrong model. Well, now I have a reason to try this one out.

kalekanchha 11-21-2012 07:41 AM

30% 1 star review, $10 rebate, pass.

sr71 11-21-2012 08:01 AM

works well have one from an earlier NCIX $5 deal - no stand with this one unlike the AE-1000

nycdude 11-21-2012 08:01 AM

Great price. I have this and its not bad adapter. I have it connected to an E3000 router with dd-wrt.

I never had one disconnect so people with issues usually involve their network setup.

Why would you connect this adapter to a router? Isn't it for a device that doesn't have a wireless card?

OK. Why would one need to plug this into a router?
Isn't this supposed to go into a PC without a wireless card? Or am I missing something :please2:

jmor 11-21-2012 08:14 AM

pretty crappy ratings. I'm surprised it even has 5 ghz

runIrish24 11-21-2012 08:15 AM

Nice needed one for my Raspberry Pi.

Jimmy07 11-21-2012 08:16 AM

I have two, one on media server and other on pc to stream MKV movies over 5ghz signal and works great no buffering or video skipping. Also got their Cisco WET610N-RM over 5ghz and connected my PS3 (COD BO2) for better wireless performance because there are like 30 homes on 2.5ghz signals on all bands interfering with mine.

Believe nycdude was saying that he's got it *Wi-Fi* connected to his e3000 router.

redskys 11-21-2012 08:34 AM

Thanks OP! In 4-1. :woot:

Teelerrr 11-21-2012 08:34 AM

Google has 4 star review on this so not to bad with over 200 reviewing it

b0yd07 11-21-2012 08:34 AM

I have one of these... FWIW

I can never tell if it's my internet going out or this thing that's unstable, but I get frustrated pretty frequently with my connection going out for short periods of time.

For three bucks, buy it as a spare. Look elsewhere for a more permanent solution.

Jimmy07 11-21-2012 08:41 AM

Other items to consider is the physical location of your router. Move it to a different location and test the signal; things like heaters, fans, microwaves, walls anything emitting energy will slightly interfere with your wireless signal. 5Ghz will have a shorter range than 2.4Ghz.

stallionunleash 11-21-2012 08:44 AM

does this offer any better wi-fi speed when the router used is a wireless-G

CommunistJack 11-21-2012 08:46 AM

warning: i bought a refurbished version of this and it SUCKED, the range is ridiculously low. so i went on amazon and bought one of these [amazon.com]for $30

shortsighted 11-21-2012 08:47 AM

Does the fact that it is refurbished make the rebate harder to get?

doesn't matter. oos now.

MeatCatalog 11-21-2012 08:50 AM

If this is like the ae1000 be warned:

There is no way to select the frequency if an SSID has the same name on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

Phrased another way: You cannot manually select the 5ghz band SSID if there is already a 2.4ghz SSID of the same name. Since many corporate environments have their networks setup in this way, this may be a big deal to some.

sekia 11-21-2012 08:53 AM

use a1000 gave me 300Mbps 24/7
now let me get my newegg foo young cooking

sydam3 11-21-2012 08:56 AM

Used to connect a non wireless computer to a wireless router. I use one of these for getting internet to computers I am fixing that do not have wireless. It is super fast and works great. My only gripe is that the drivers are not integrated into any Windows OS including 7 so you must install the drivers from the CD that comes with the adapter in order to use it, other than that it is a great deal at $10 and a steal at only $3AR.

Update: $19.99 with a $10 Newegg rebate card.

tarajunky 11-28-2012 12:38 AM

According to the warranty terms...

"8. CANCELLATION AND REFUND. You may cancel this Contract at any time for any
reason. If You cancel this Contract within sixty (60) days of the date purchased You will receive
a refund of the full purchase price less any claims."

I'm thinking I'll just test it out a bit and apply for the $6.99 refund. That would make this better than FAR by a few bucks.

Agree, I got a refurbished one as well and it is the Sh*ttiest adapter ever. If you're looking for an adapter for a desktop and don't mind the size, get this Rosewill RNX-N250UBE [newegg.com] the range is amazing, 5 bar signal from the corner of the house to the router thanks to dual antenna!
