For anyone wondering how to use the cable wrap, see the attachment.

Here's a short write-up about the earphones when they came out a few years ago:
http://en.akihabaranews.com/31045...-for-women

The reviews on Amazon Japan ( http://www.amazon.co.jp/product-r...0035MJTRU/ ) are all over the place, but most of them agree that the cord wrap is mostly useless because it's heavy. One person said that the highs can be a bit sharp and that overall response is flat, while some say that the bass is very responsive, while another said that he needed to play with equalizer settings to produce a bearable sound, all of which could be probably be attributed to the various devices that they used their earphones with. Some say they got way more than what they paid for, and some say that it's too focused on design with no substance.

tl;dr: Don't expect anything magical just because it's Audio-Technica as this is one of their budget earphones.

tinytimmy 11-22-2012 01:21 AM

Ananke 12-18-2012 10:07 AM

I have these from the previous deal two months ago, along with another similar AudioTechnica model.
These are very nice, high quality sound. At the beginning I felt they were slightly clipping the high frequencies, but now it seems OK to me. Overall VERY high sensitivity, dynamic earphones. These are well worth $12, I would say equal to SONY's $50 plugs.

The wire is nice and soft.

I am picky about quality. For comparison Apple's earbuds are complete trash compared to these, to me.

$12.60 on amazon shipped free with prime.
http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Techn...ATH-CKF500

No reviews I could find but the specs are great. I bought one.

SlickDude007 12-18-2012 10:39 AM

I can tell you from first hand experience, that these guys have the best customer service around.

I bought the Audio-technica QuietPoint ATH-ANC3 Noise cancelling earbuds. These earbuds are great for travel and plane. They reduce a good bit of noise reduction.

Probably within Yr 2 or Yr 3 (original warranty expired), after much use in gym and travel, the wire started to weaken and I had lost some of 4-6 variations of earplugs they provide (to fit your ear mold). I emailed the company thinking that there was no way I could get them fix or send me a replacement of earplugs. To my amazement. They REPLACED the entire earbuds plus a new traveling case and earplugs. All I paid for was shipping to them.

They care about their customers.

Not bass heavy, the bass is tight and well defined. I like it, because it is as neutral as possible. It doesn't mud the sound.

Most people with different understanding for music will not like it - if you enjoy heavy bass subwoofers for a rap music in your car, probably these are not for you.

Also, as I said, these are clipping. It was apparent at the beginning, it seems not anymore, after two months every day usage. They need burn in.

I will take brands from Audio Technica and Sennheiser over craptastic Dre Beats any day in terms of quality and value. I was suckered into getting Dre tours and pros and regret doing so since I don't even use them. Good deal.

I actually ordered them for myself without realizing they are meant for women. I saw it was a good price so I bought them without reading the description. There are rhinestones and even the black ones have sort of a pinkish/bronzish highlights on them. Pretty funny, but I actually like them (other than the looks, but I can deal with that).

They are smaller which is nice because I am extremely tired of getting either poor quality headphones that break easily or decent quality that hurt my ears. They dont fall out of my ears but maybe mine are smaller than other males'.

They come with multiple ear buds so you can swap to a larger size.
I've heard that alot of head-fi'ers really like this particular earphone -

smata67 12-26-2012 02:59 PM

The budget giant killer earphone nowadays is the Philips SHE3580 which is discontinued, but can be had at TJMaxx for $6.99. The replacement for these is the SH3590, any SHE35XX is reported to have the same drivers and similar sound. High end sound for peanuts, according to the IEM nerds at head-fi.

Thanks. Maybe I'll get those. These Audio-Tehnica ones seem too risky without any reviews. And as someone as else pointed out the "Japanese amazon reviews are all over the place." Indeed, they are. I checked. What do you guys think of these? Panasonic RPHJE120K [amazon.com] They are inexpensive and get really good reviews.

I purchased this item on April 22, 2012 for $7.98

I bought these based on someone here's recommendation. I use them primarily when cutting the grass and running different lawn equipment. They truly are fantastic for the money. I bought these to replace a pair of Jlabs that got washed with a pair of pants.

Even before burn-in they sound full and crisp. The bass hits nicely without sounding farty. I've noticed slight nuances in songs I've been listening to for decades. Good build quality also. I have used them at least once a week for 2+ hours with no problems at all.

I do however use a pair of PELTOR style ear muffs over top, but even without the muffs the sound is incredible. They've held up well and I expect them to keep on trucking for a while still. At $5.87, I think I'll pick up a few more pairs just to stock and be at the ready.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Panasonic ones I linked to, conglomerazzi. Do you think think it's possible to even get "noise cancellation" with earbuds? Even buyers of expensive full headphones like Dre Beats say they don't cancel out all the outside noise. So how can any earbud ever accomplish this? I think I will just go with the Panasonic.

I think you can get noise reduction ear buds, but anything that doesn't actually cover the entire ear seems unlikely to completely cancel 100% outside noise.

I wear a pair of these [toolguyd.com] when I'm running my yard equipment over top of these Panasonic ear buds.

I can hear the mower / blower as a muffled hum and the music sounds great. I've worn expensive aviation head sets (david clark / bose etc) that also claim to be noise cancelling but the drone of the propeller is still quite apparent.

I'm definitely no expert on head phones / ear buds but I would guess some outside ambient noise will always be present no matter how much money you spend.

I hope you enjoy the Pannies. It's hard to complain at under $6 a pair tho! One thing I forgot to mention is they're virtually no "cord noise". I have a pair of audio techinicas ath-30 something or other that I use with my lap top. They sound great if you remain perfectly still. Slight movements amplify the cord in the cans and drives me bonkers. It's really distracting.
