This should come with a starter toner cartridge the TN420. Replace with a TN450 either way Here is how to refill them. [youtube.com]

theOneUpper 11-22-2012 11:46 AM

For lazy people like me, its toner can be bought for less than $30:
http://www.123inkjets.com/Brother...inter.html

$29.99 before a 10% coupon and 17% fatwallet cash.

"Cost Per Page: 1.15 cents" --- before the 10% coupon and 17% fatwallet cash.

I have used 123inkjets' compatible toners for 4 years --- never have any problem with them.

:)

good price

dissident 11-22-2012 03:11 PM

my one beef with their printers is no wireless N support unless you spend big money.

flydeep 11-22-2012 06:02 PM

Why would you need wireless N for printing?

Do you think these printers will ever get shipped?

I like to set my router in a fixed mode, not mixed mode.. fixed N to run everything in the house would be nice, but the brother doesn't take it, so I use fixed G. No big deal, since I have the slowest speed internet, everything works fine and is rock solid. Still everything supports N these days. Very happy with my brother printer, and windows 8 since it saw the printer on the network and installed the drivers without me having to do anything.

We got ours today took a long time to ship here to socal, it does come with a DR420 was the starter one suppose to be in there? We didn't see any in the box. We just threw in what looked like a toner but it clearly said DR420 and It shows that we printed 10 pages and we have 11,990.

Most of the printers we bought in the past were crappy a few 100 pages before it ran out but to get one with 12,000 at this price is awesome, since a Drum Unit is in 70$+ range alone.

The 420 isn't going to give you 12,000 pages. The drum is capable of 12,000, sure, but not the 420. Even the 450 isn't going to print you that much. I think you're confounding the toner and drum units.

Out of curiosity, what is the deal with people putting the dollar sign after the amount? I see this all the time now.

chong67 12-10-2012 06:37 PM

I got it on BF last year for $50 at Staples using the $25 off $75.

"What's in the Box" : " Brother - DR420 Drum Unit "

What do you mean isn't the 420 the drum? , when I go connect to my wireless printer it detects it as a drum kit and when I look at the top its engraved print DR420.

Drum Unit* 11927 pages
(% of Life Remaining) (100.00%)

So everything points to it being a Drum Unit, do you mean its not and its just a toner?

They're two separable items (toner + drum). Together, it's the "drum unit." I haven't used a replaceable drum unit in many years, but it used to be that once the toner ran out, you bought new toner, and kept the drum unit the same until you replaced the toner several times.

maxthelimit3 12-11-2012 08:13 AM

I of course always assumed the worst, since it also says in the box on the site and brother website along with every place that sells this 200$ package printer that it should also come with a "Starter Toner Cartridge (~ 700 pages)" that was never in the box.

So if it wasn't for taking out the toner, looking everywhere at UPC number, model number and trying to find out what it is I wouldn't of seen the DR420 at the top.

Then I looked at the brother site, under accessories and saw that they come in three kinds TN420, TN450 and DR420. When looking at other places that sell a replacement there are screenshots of the box, and the drum unit taken out and only difference is whats engraved in the kit itself DR420 the toner and drum kit looking online didn't seem any bigger or smaller.

Finally got my UPS ship notice on the 21st of Dec but it didn't ship out until the 26th. ETD is the 4th here in NorCal. I think this is the longest backordered BF deal ever for me!
