I think the one in the pack is an ESW-8, whereas the one above is a "Power 10." Not sure about the differences, though.

Too bad I bought these for $150 in the spring. Paired with a good sub these sound great. They worked with the regular speaker stands you can get at Best Buy.

Bought these for $150 less than 10 hours ago on NewEgg and the bastards wouldn't credit the $20. Canceled and reordered, but man, the NewEgg I used to know would have helped out instead of making it difficult.

I have these speakers and they are great but the one thing I really hate about these speakers are the rubber sticker feet. They leave a yellow mess underneath and move around and "slide" off the speakers way too easily.

Any comments on the included 8" sub with the Energy Take Classic 5.1 set on Amazon for $299 vs. buying this setup from Newegg and adding a sub like the Polk PSW-10? Looks like the Energy subs are pretty pricy on their own.

The Polk PSW-10 gets awesome reviews. I actually just bought the PSW-10 and the Energy Take 5 set. I'm not sure about the Energy sub, but I paid less going Polk/Energy and like the look of the Polk better.

Honestly, I just bought the setup so no comment, but from my research you should pair the main speakers and the sub doesn't matter as long as it produces the frequencies that you're main speakers can't. If you have a good receiver, it'll handle parsing out the frequencies on its own. Both the Polk and the Energy get awesome reviews for the price.

I'm definitely not either of those but I did stay at a holiday inn :cool: (bad joke alert!) In that case I think this deal plus the Polk Sub is a great price for two fantastic products! Thanks for the input! rep!

Three pages and all I'm reading is discussion about subs and receivers. The only mention of the actual item in this deal is that the sticky rubber feet don't still so good but I'm wall-hanging so that doesn't apply to me. Can anyone comment on the actual speakers in this deal? I already have a 10" sub and just need to replace my aging Onkyo HT in a box speakers. I assume these will be better but how good are they? Worth pulling the trigger for $130? There was a Newegg deal the other day that I missed for a $300 5.0 set for $140 that I wish I had pulled the trigger on. This 'deal' doesn't seem like a super deal based strictly on money difference unless these never have a discount or something. What am I missing?

I have had Energy speakers for years. Its the same company that made Mirage and Sound Dynamics brands (good stuff) For the size and cost of this set, Its a steal!!
Also just fyi, the Energy subs are really great for their small size. You will be happy with these, Especially at the price!!

The speakers will work fine with your receiver. But you will want to add a sub for sure as there isn't much of a bottom end on these little speakers.

PSW-10 is generally considered garbage by most folks. I would steer clear personally.

You do not have to match your sub to your speakers. It is important for your front 3 to be timbre matched, but the sub doesn't matter.

You will need to buy speaker wire. I have this set of speakers and have been quite happy with them. It does however bear mentioning that you can get the pioneer Pioneer SP-PK21BS set sans the sub by buying two pairs of SP-BS21-LR at $40 and the center SP-C21 for $50 which also comes to $130 and that the pioneers may have better sound quality. CNET seemed to think so at least.

Have you even tried the psw10? I was going to get the psw505 based on forum recommendations, but picked up the psw10 from bestbuy for $60 open box, and is perfect for me (12x17 open room). I compared that to a $400 down firing jbl 10" and the jbl didnt even come close. It really depends on what your expectations are and how much you rely on other ppls reviews.

Any speaker system is useless without a subwoofer. Get the $80 polk PSW10 for $80 on newegg. If you want to spend more and dont mind a bigger sub get the PSW505

Yes, I've heard the PSW10 on several occasions. I use a BIC F12 in a room nearly identical to your measurements and it does the job very well. I plan to add a second before too long actually.

These Energy speakers are the best under $200, if you want wall-mount/bookshelf speakers. If you want towers check out the polk monito 60's for front $99 each and CS1 or CS2 center, and matching monitor 30's/40's rear all on sale currently at newegg. For rears i would recommend bookshelf only since you can place them at or above ear level. Some people like the similar Pioneer set, which is also good.

Subwoofer does NOT have to match the speakers, and is one of the most important component of your system. Spend the most you can on it, but try a couple out, see what u like and dont go overboard.

BIC F12 without question is the best sub under $300, but the thing is massive... PSW is similar but slightly smaller which is why I was going to get that. But I wanted my set in the living room and didnt want all the speakers to look like huge furniture, so went with the smaller psw10. It would have been a different story it this was for a dedicated HT room. All Im saying is that a $60 sub worked better for me than a $400 one, so try them out and if it works for you save your money.

The Monitor 60s are tower speakers and are meant to be used as your Left and Right mains. They are not a sub and one would still be required with them if you want to get the most out of your system. Here's an old pic of my 60s, CS1, and F12 setup.

BTW, for those asking about the PSW10: I've been using this sub in our master bedroom for many years now and it's fantastic for this application. We have the PWS505B in our living room (larger more open area) and it's also been fantastic. Our theater has two AV123 15's so it's not that I'm not sure what good/full sound sounds like or I don't know what I'm talking about here. The Polk subs represent a fantastic value in powered subs and for the money when you find them on deals here and there I can't even build a powered sub for that kind of money. I know because I have built them before and while they may perform better to the average user looking for a sub to pair with these speakers it won't matter. For under $100 w/free shipping it's going to be tough to beat.

It won't overpower the speakers if you don't set the level too high. You need to balance the level of the sub with the speakers, so as long as you play at levels the speakers can handle you should be fine. A better sub will give better low frequency extension and also the ability to play louder without distortion. If you do intend to play the system at very high output levels then these speakers will most likely be the limiting factor.

Question for you guys. I bought these speakers last night along with the Polk PSW505 Sub http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6882290130. I live in an apartment and upon reading some more of the reviews today, I see that this may not be the best choice. Will there be much difference between using this sub with low volume vs using a smaller sub at a higher volume?

It's not just that it's the fact that the larger 12" sub plays at a lower frequency (top end and low end) than the 10" sub. Simply put the gap between these speakers and a PWS10 would be smaller than these speakers and a PWS505 which would sound better to some. The lower bass of the 12 may be better for LFS in movies in such but I question how much you would get to utilize either a PWS505 or a PWS10 in an apartment. If it were me I would have gone with the PWS10 for your setup/needs and even then you will have to keep the gain low to keep neighbors happy. I think people are crapping on the PWS10 w/o reason and some are getting the idea that it's a POS but I can tell you that it most certainly is not. It's a VERY solid performer and is capable of a LOT of sound.

I would. Especially in an apartment. I think you will be quite happy with the PWS in an apt with this setup and will find yourself lowering the volume to keep the neighbors happy.

What's a good receiver to go with this?

I just bought these speakers and have a few rookie questions. I am planning on pairing these up with the Yamaha receiver I bought yesterday. As far as the subwoofer is concerned, I have this outdated Panasonic HT system [newegg.com]that I picked up for free from a friend. It sounds great, but lacks many modern features. The subwoofer is listed as

250W (1kHz, 6 ohms, 10% THD) (RMS)
95W (45Hz-120Hz, 6 ohms, 1% THD) (FTC)

I also ended up purchasing speaker wire RCA 16G from Amazon. Three questions

- Can I use that subwoofer ?
- Do I need banana plugs ? (I googled them, and found that they are more of a convenience and aesthetic thing)
- Does my setup need anything else to go with my new 60 Vizio ? :)

How do these compare to the Logitech z-680 or z-5500 speakers? I have a z-680 with a blown subwoofer and I'm currently using the remaining speakers with Sony STR-DH720 Receiver. It sounds good but I can't compare them to Energy speakers as I never used them. Any comments?

energy speakers are home theater speakers which means they are made to fill a large area with sound. computer speakers like your logitech are made for close proximity hearing such as in front of a computer.

if your logitech speakers is still within the warranty period, you can call in for a warranty exchange. they are pretty good with that

1) That is why this set is a good deal. You get 5 speakers in the set and buy a subwoofer to complete it.
2) Edit 5.1 setup is minimum, there is 7.1 and 7.2 setup as well. 5.1 is good enough for home consumers.

You need a receiver. A receiver is the heart where everything is connected to. TV-PS3, Settop box, Roku, Speakers, Subwoofer. Everything connects to a receiver.

People that dont know what center and surround channels, i bet you guys may have trouble when it comes to setting up your system once you get it.
