So I think folks have been complaining that the HTC One does not have a Wi-FI Hot Spot host ahh but it does and I stumbled upon it quite by accident.
Download ES File Explorer form the Play Store. Launch it click on the top button App Manager at the top of the screen. Now Click Category and choose System apps Scroll down to the bottom of the screen hold the Wi_Fi Hotspot button and choose create a shortcut. There you go, maybe this is not news but it was news to me. Quote:

Awesome! Hopefully it's true! I was thinking of taking the Evo over this, but at this price, I might just get the One.
|
Same here. I was hoping that one of the 4Gs would go down but this price is hard to beat. If I don't see anything else go on sale tomorrow, I will probably snag this. It's definitely an improvement over my LG Rumor touch slider.
|
Hmmm, I brought the Elite from Best Buy Thursday for $50, but if the One V goes on sale I'll get it.
|
Can you use this phone on the grandfathered $25 plan? I have a triumph and I hate it so, so much. Have all these issues and they won't give me another refurb after just getting a refurb in late August. Don't understand why they don't give you any kind of warranty on refurb.
|
Is this a GSM phone? I'm looking for a phone that I can unlock and use with straight talk
|
This absolutely insane. I bought a used Sprint EVO 3D just to use as a 3D travel camera. Thus I don't need the cell phone part to work. That cost me $100. With this, I can get a new one for half price that also works with my virgin account. This beats the 50% off Triumphs last year.
Edit: Sadness. I just realized this is the silly 2D One and not the 3D Evo. I'm still buying it. |
Unfortunately this phone cannot be used with the 25 dollar plan. Also this is a CDMA phone not GSM.

not worth going from 25 to 35/mo if I don't get 4g as part of the deal.

I was hoping for an iPhone :lmao:
|
$50, and the normal price is $150? damn!
|
Hmm... already ordered a Reverb for $100...
|
Do I have to activate it? Can I just use it with free WiFi hotspots to check e-mail and such?
|
Even with a $10 increase per month, I'm still getting a better deal than most carriers and none of the headaches associated with the one I have now. The 3G is still better than what I got on my old slider with vm. I wanted a 4G steal this year but if it still looks like One V is the only one on sale come tomorrow, I'll probably end up getting it. I'm just going to do some research into battery life and any quirks people have noticed with it. :)
|
Hoping to snag a deal on the Evo 4G

looks like the reverb is a better phone what do you think? to me it is worth the extra money to get a larger screen , faster cpu, more ram, front camera, |
I heard there is a way to get $5 off each month by autopaying.
Is that true? How do you do that? Thanks |
I really want to get this just so I can use Bluetooth, but don't want to give up the $25/month plan.
My Triumph's Bluetooth doesn't work and Motorola is denying that there's an issue with the phone, just that my laptop, headset, and car all have faulty Bluetooth, even though all 3 work with other BT devices. |

My wife has the HTC One and it's definitely a good phone... a steal at $50. Gonna have to think this over. Anyone ever return a phone to VM that you ordered from their site? |

Try also contacting Virgin's social network support at saveme@thevirginangels.com http://www.facebook.com/notes/vir...2044211194 I RMA'd my wife's Triumph 4 times through them. Each one with a different problem (reboots, charging port issues, awful touch screen, crackly ear speaker). I did finally get a good one (which I ebay'd since the wife had given up already and gotten an Evo 4G). Still, I appreciated how helpful the social media C.S. was. |

Just use MIUI [androidforums.com]. A much nicer looking and quicker rom than whatever is stock. I would never, ever wish a stock Triumph upon my worst enemies. Miui makes all the difference in the world. Additionally, I'm able to set my phone up as a hotspot for my laptop. Big plus. Really, the improvements are innumerable. If anyone wants to give their triumph one final chance, I can help you out with custom roms. |

better res and faster speed |
I read about some good roms for One V but I've never done phone mods. Just other electronics(game systems) and that's always with the chance of me ending up with a brick.
Has anyone modded a One V? |
Seems to be a great gift for kids. MP3 player, camera, Free GrooveIP/Google Voice calling and texting (for now), free Android games, with no activation. Wait, No activation is required, right?

One V is a pretty good phone. I've had mine for probably about 3 months now and it's been great. I'm pretty sure it has an IPS display, battery life is pretty good, gps lock is almost instant most of the time, camera functions well, love the shape/design/quality. |
Quote:
|
Ok .. I know this sounds stupid but what can I say. I just found out I might be able to use a smartphone for the apps, wifi, maybe GPS, etc. so what will work on this phone if it's NOT activated.
I'd rather not change my VM plan at this time but if that changes in a couple months I'd already have the phone. Or would another phone be a better option? Normally I'd research this for myself rather than ask but since time is short and this all all new to me .. I'd appreciate any help, opinions, etc. |

Edit: Ah, someone beat me to it a few posts above. |

The One V might not be IPS but it's something that has hardly any color shift when viewing at angles. Typical TN screens will almost completely invert contrast, the One V's screen hardly shows ANY shift in colors/contrast at off-angles (even at almost 90 degrees). |
If you currently have a Virgin Mobile plan ($35), this wouldn't be too hard to switch to, right? (asking for a friend).
|
Wow. I hope they have other phones super cheap as well!
|
If I could still grandfather it would be a no-brainer. But as much as I hate my Triumph I cannot spend another $120 a year to justify the irreversible switch.
|
Quote:
That's the main reason I think I'm gonna stick with a Reverb for $100. |
Quote:
|
I'll have to consider this deal. I was thinking of switching over to the $30 T-Mobile plan and getting away from Virgin Mobile since I'd have to upgrade to the $35 plan from my $25 plan but this is a tempting deal.
I strongly dislike the Triumph (and there's little in life that I dislike). The Triumph was awful with the stock ROM and is only made somewhat bearable with MUIU. Even then, the phone is more frustrating than trying to climb a greased 100 ft. pole. |
it seems this HTC one V has GSM, could be used at tmobile and ATT after unlocking?

I might be in for one.. My blackberry is nice, but it's a pretty boring phone to use.

Your friend just logs into his/her account, go through the phone switch process which takes a minute or two, and then it should be up and running. Worst case scenario, a phone call may be required to virgin mobile to clear up some settings issue (had to do it for a used phone) and all in all, worst case scenario, 4-5 minutes and your friend can start using the new phone. |

What I'm really hoping is that the Galaxy S II or iPhones go on sale. If the SII hits $200, I'll likely spring for that. An iPhone 4s at $350? Definitely would buy it. That's all wishful thinking though. There's no way Virgin Mobile would lower the iPhone prices that much.

Not sure if this has been noted already, but the CSRs claim of this having a $100 dollar discount and being $49.99 is not consistent. If this phone has a $100 discount, that will make it $99.99, not $49.99. My money is on a $99.99 price :(
|
Are VM customer service reps credible?
Does this info seem legit? VM CSR's seem to give a lot of inaccurate info. Some earlier posters had screen shots of chats with CSRs, in which they wrongly stated that there would be no black friday sales (Evo dropped to $149).
Also, the info in this thread seems to contradict VM's official twitter feed. On the other hand, I suppose that tweet is full of questionable syntax and is open to interpretation. Like many others, i've got my fingers and toes crossed for an S2 sale. Evo at $150 isn't a bad back up plan. |

I would rather wait for a sale on the htc evo v (1.2ghz dual core 1gb ram) rather than this. The one V has a bigger screen and is little faster than my optimus V but same ram 512mb. Also, havent looked up how easy to root the HTC phone but I have a htc flyer rooted with custom rom so I assume its just as easy.

Hmmmm, according to their Twitter...
"#cybermonday from VMU #Galaxy Reverb $100 off $149.99 -- HTCOneV $99 - #payLo Montage 50% off $24.99 - 3G/4G OverdrivePro $50 off $69.99" Would be nice to see a $49.99 price though but I think it will be $99.99. Would be great to get more confirmation on this. |

Would you say this is a big improvement over a LG Rumor Touch slider? I'm on the old grandfather plan at $25 and I don't mind the $10 increase if all I'm paying is $50 for this. At the same time, I read up that the One V is made of aluminum and gorilla glass in one of the links here.. Sounds highly durable and I put my slider through hell from two moves, drops and constant travel. It makes it sound like the One V is a capable replacement but now that most of you made a point about the 4G and the Evo being faster, I'm divided on which to purchase. In the end I'm still seeing a $10 monthly increase but it's a matter of how much I'm willing to put down for a phone up front.
Any advice? |

Could you confirm this One V is a CDMA only phone? Does this ONE V have a SIM slot?
I checked online. It seems this one V does have GSM band besides CDMA. In other word, it's a global phone, with both GSM and CDMA. http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=spec..._htc_primo http://www.htc.com/uk/smartphones...e-v/#specs http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=pdac...one_series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_One Quote:

I've had the One V since July so let me clear some stuff up for everyone.
1) This is most definitely only CDMA (Virgin runs on Sprint's CDMA network). There are GSM varieties of the One V, but you will not get that through Virgin Mobile. 2) The screen is excellent, even in direct sunlight if the brightness is cranked up. Colors are vibrant and images are clear. As mentioned earlier, the colors don't distort at all even at extreme viewing angles. 3) The camera is great in well lit environments but not super great in low light scenes. The flash helps but it seems to have issues focusing properly when you use the flash. Sometimes it's fine, but I end up with lots of blurry and out of focus shots. Even so, it's infinitely better than my old Optimus V. 4) The custom rom community is moderately active but I haven't found one single rom where everything functions like it should (most roms have issues with the camera, camcorder or bluetooth.) I always end up going back to the stock rom with a custom kernel so I can overclock. I run my One V at 1497MHz 24/7 and I usually have around 30% battery at the end of a normal day of use. That speed bump has a huge impact on performance. One VERY important note is that trying to use GSM roms/kernels on your CDMA One V will most likely brick it. Seriously. There are lots of good informational threads at xda-developers so just do your research before you dive in. The devs are pretty strict so make sure you follow good forum etiquette. Overall, I think it's a great phone and if the price really drops to $50, it's a no-brainer. I have no experience with the Reverb or the Evo V so I can't speak to those. If you're looking for the best deal Virgin has to offer, this is probably it. If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. |

I really think everyone is getting their hopes up over a price that someone got with a talk from a random customer rep (no offense). Even the VM twitter says its going to be $99.99 and I would say that's more credible. I hope you guys get the hot deal though but there is no reliable source here.
|
Let me add that the EVO V is a far superior phone. If the price only drops to $99, then the $50 difference would still make the EVO V the better deal.
But like others said, $49 is a no brainer. |
Quote:
So will Google maps work on it without activating? I noticed in the manual it says that "location services" needs to be enabled. Is that a dependent on activating the phone? Yes, I'm cell phone/smartphone illiterate. Too much to learn in too short a time. Can anyone offer some pros/cons or experiences for not having a keyboard for internet, email, etc? I'm just wanting to use this for the apps, wifi, etc .. for right now. Other suggestion on which VM phone might be a good option for that but is also useful if I go to the $35/month plan in a few months? |
Quote:
is this really that much better than the Optimus Elite? All I'm seeing is 200 more mhz processor. But the elite can be overclocked to 1.4ghz since it's the same processor. Thoughts on why this would be worth it after just buying the elite? http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/...,3684,3628 |

Also, you can use a bluetooth keyboard with it if you find the screen too small. Some people also use swype, which is easier on small screens. Make sure you get a good keyboard program though, it will make typing a lot easier. Swype and swiftkey are both good. |

HTC One V specs
To clear up questions on the One V's specs (citing wikipedia and yahoo! answers as credible sources? really?), here is the official HTC website for the One V on Virgin Mobile USA:
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones...v-vmobile/ Re: GSM/world phone radios being built into the One. It doesn't have that feature (as others have noted). But more importantly, assuming it had this feature defies reason. Virgin Mobile USA does not offer international roaming, so why would it include a gsm quad band radio in a budget handset that operates on a CDMA domestic network? That would be insane. |
can someone please adopt me for a few min to explain how the virgin phones work. I top up for 25 bux each month (its not alot but its all i need- )can I use this phone for this?

Hi there, Your $25 plan is an older plan and you can keep it as long as you don't switch to a phone that was launched after may 2012 (except the Elite I believe). For example, if your phone breaks and you buy a new/used phone launched BEFORE May 2012, your $25 rate will still be there. If you purchase a new/used phone that launched during or after May 2012, you'll be charged the new rates. I forgot where the list of phones are located by they're somewhere online. Hopefully someone else can post that. |

My only experience with VM was with an Intercept over a year ago on their $25 plan, but the horribly spotty internet service in Dallas, TX infuriated me to the point of just having to swith providers.
I ended up getting a 3GS with Straight Talk and the internet is a bit slow but consistent. What I am curious about now is if in fact my crappy internet experience was do to my Intercept, not the service, and weather you guys currently on VM and sporting newer awesome phones would rate the internet service to be fast and consistent? If so, I may return to VM, and save $10 a month from what I pay now. |
