Nook Tablet 8GB Refurbished $79 Ebay

Hey, did a quick search, couldn't find it.

Nook Tablet 8GB for 79 sold on ebay through Barnes and Noble. Good deal for CA people because there's no 6 dollar e-waste fee, like Fry's charged for Black Friday.

Here it is:

How much better is this compared to Nook color I I got for $59 on BF. Basically for kids to play angry birds and cut the rope? should I return that and get this?

ladnar 11-26-2012 12:58 AM

Nook Tablet has dual core (color has single), same RAM from what I understand. If you want to root it, the nook color is a little easier to root from what I understand.

I also bought a nook color for 59, but I think I'm going to keep it, because I just need some web browsing and basic pdf reading. Nook color might be sufficient for you, unless someone else knows better than me.

That being said, I think Nook Tablet for 79 is the lowest I've seen. Fry's had it for the same price Black Friday, but they charged 6 dollars for e-waste recycling fee for California residents.

ladnar 11-26-2012 01:22 AM

Also, forgot to mention that there's a time limit: ends at 8am PST.

From what I've heard it's a little more work to get CM on this compared to Nook Color, but it can still be done, and this tablet is more powerful than the Color. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge about CM on the Tablet can chime in on this.

was going to post what he said....verbatim!!!!! Cowboom had the 16GB tablet for 90... I got one for my father in law but they sent me an 8gb... but he is only going to use it as an ereader...so no big deal... he doesnt need that extra 8gb and 1/2GB extra RAM...

oh yeah and also expect only like 4GB of useable space out of the 8GB model... so for moderate media usage you are going to want to throw in a microSD card for sure...

Trying to decide among

1) nook tablet 16gb ($99)
http://slickdeals.net/f/5565482-C...H-on-11-26

2) nook tablet 8gb ($79)

3) fire 8gb ($129).

End user is my soon to be 6 year old who already has the Innotab 1.

I have Prime/Fire, hence have access to AMZN's ecosystem. Have never tried Nook. Hence looking for some guidance on availability/price of books, learning apps, etc.

If there is a similar post somewhere please redirect -- I couldn't find it. Thanks all!

supermanrob 11-26-2012 03:40 AM

Is this as good as the color for Ereading(know nothing about tablets)? Thinking of getting this for my son for reading and maybe do a little web searching using WiFi? Is the fire worth the extra $$ for this purpose ?

If you want the prime stuff, I think the fire is the easiest place to go. If you're okay with used, there's a kindle fire pre-owned for 90 at http://www.cowboom.com

I don't know much about the nook system, since my main purpose would be to root it and use android.

If it's just for web searching and reading, the Nook tablet should be fine.

dreadvirus 11-26-2012 04:50 AM

i bought the nook color for 59, but now i got the 5 off 50 coupon , if i were to use either one of these for the same purpose would it still be worth it to get the nook tablet cause of the coupon?...plus mr rebates have 1 or 2% cb..FW has 7%cb!

Follywood 11-26-2012 05:16 AM

the nook color for $59 is more slick? am i correct? I bought the color on ebay a few days ago.

vamos 11-26-2012 05:16 AM

If I understand correctly from the last hour of googling around, if I root this tablet and install gapps, I end up with a more fully featured Android tablet while preserving max stability?. ie with gapps will allow Google Play and all its apps etc?.

Getting for a child so want it to be 100% stable while also offering more than just a content delivery tablet.

Thanks for any help :)

Nick6280 11-26-2012 05:45 AM

I have 0 experience with the Nook Tablet, but I have modded over 20 Nook Color tablets from CowBoom for friends and family. Fairly straight forward to mod and there is a CyanogenMod 7 ROM on XDA that is rock solid. With MicroSD cards so cheap, get a 16GB or 32GB Class 6 or 10 if possible. In my experience it does make a difference.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1344873

Advantages to modding/rooting a stock Nook Color or Nook Tablet:

Full Google Play store
Amazon App Store
Share epub books via Dropbox and read them with Moon Reader
Picasa picture sync for online photos

Either way, $59 is a steal for the NC, $79 is a steal for the NT. I personally would choose the Nook Color for ease of modding and ROM availability. Last black friday the Nook Color was going for $119 refurb and that was a bargain at the time.

I am looking for a notebook, tablet, etc.... portable

just to use for printing coupons, and using for extreme couponing, freebies, etc.... trying to stay under 300.00.... anyone have any recommendations on this cyber monday

I want it just for those things, no personal information to be used on it.
so I can keep my main laptop & desktop clean of things like "Coupon Printer Software" "Tracking Cookies" LSO's .......

thanks in advance

Yes, rooting a Nook Color or Nook Tablet will get both to become a full android tablet, meaning it has full access to the android market and looks like most generic android tablets. Yes, the Nook Color should be quite stable after rooting. If you do it wrong, then it will have problems, much as any tablet will. If you're scared/unsure/etc., you can always buy a premade android-rooting card, like those N2A cards [n2acards.com]. From what I read about them on Amazon customer reviews, their customer service & tech support, once you buy their card, is quite good too. But, if you have a little know-how, you can easily make the same cards for FREE, since those N2A guys also get the same stuff available for free at XDA-Developers, and make you pay for their (N2A's) service essentially.

The 8GB Nook Tablet will run CM7 perfectly, and can play all the games and HD movies my kids throw at it. I generally compress to 720x400 or so to conserve space, but even 720p movies run fine. 3D games work well also. Also, it is incredibly easy to get it running with CM7 if you boot from microSD, rather than modifying the internal memory. Then, you can just pop the microSD out if you need to return it for warranty, etc. and it's like you never even booted it.

Sears had the Nook Simple Touch for $39.99 on Black Friday. If you don't need it now, waiting may get you that price again.

Can this boot from a MicroSD Card?

fangtl 11-26-2012 07:45 AM

I'd get the 16gb at 1sad, the extra internal memory and storage is worth the additional 20 imo.

I'm doing similar for the Nook Color and Tablet but I purchased the micro SD cards on Ebay with Android already on them. I got 16GB ones but they had 32 as well.

I could make my own but don't feel like it I guess.

I saw those, but the larger N2A cards for the tablet are more pricey than one you could make yourself by buying a mini SD and downloading the file for it. Plus, the cards ready to go are only class 4 speed.

wtf!! where's my email for this upgrade? haha...i rememba my order i waited like the last 5mins to order it cause i was on the fence since i already ordered the nook color for 59..did u2 that got the upgrades remember around what time from the deal expiring u got it?

Audroid 11-29-2012 08:26 AM

I'm like really at the end of my rope with this company. My Nook Color ordered 11/22 hasn't even shipped. On Monday I received a tracking number for my Nook Tablet and UPS my choice sent me a delivery alert for today. Now it didn't come when UPS did and the tracking number is not updated past label created.

Nobody at Barnes & Noble will help because we don't have regular order numbers and whoever handles their Ebay is not helping either.

:bounce::bounce::woot::woot:

gilbert_rebel 12-04-2012 02:25 PM

I got the 16GB version as well and did NOT get a email either about the upgrade.

So does your say 5.8 GB for Nook Content + 8 GB free for your own content = 13 GB usable out of the 16 GB?

Also I downloaded the CM7 Root on SD Card Boot option but image is for 4 GB Card. Anyone know how to extend the "image" so I can use like a 16GB Mini SD card and get the "extra storage" as space?

I tried Mini Partition app to extend the FAT32 but still the card only shows 4 GB capacity when I check in Windows Properties.
