Wny can't we link to the site or banner address?

Desert Rat 07-12-2007 11:51 PM

Well, I just got an email from Pinecone this week asking me to forward it to anyone I thought might be interested, (someone else already posted it, the link has been removed, but the email address is still there,) so just look it up on Google or something and apply. I get about $10 a month, on average. Some surveys take longer than others, and there are questionaires to fill out once or twice a week about yourself, these are not paid for, they are just part of being associated with Pinecone. So, it's not a living, but it buys some beer:)

I am really sorry to hear that some people had been dropped from their panel. This happened to me with Opinion Outpost and Survey Spot as I never got any advance warning nor email. I was upset at first but figured it is best to move on as there are plenty of other good survey panels I am still fortunate to be part of.

I will go that long without a PT from then and then all of a sudden I will get three.

Still have not been dropped, sorry to those that did. Been with them for a very long time but if I were to be dropped it would be no big deal. I only average about 4-6 surveys a month with them.

StarrNJ 05-24-2010 12:01 PM

i got dropped and without warning-I got this:

Periodically we have found it necessary to refresh the composition of
our research panel in order to stay current with changes in the general
population and to provide clients with the broadest possible spectrum of
consumer opinions. In doing so, on occasion we have had to discontinue
the membership of some of our panelists.

Your household was on the list for deactivation and subsequently removed
from the panel.

Although we are unable to reactivate your membership, we appreciate your
past participation and interest in the panel.

yeah they appreciate my membership..what a crock! They had me renew my membership agreement less than 2 weeks before they dropped me. Does that make any sense?

Apparently Pinecone Reseach is taking applications! Go to their website and underneath the login area there is a scrolling marquee that links to the signup page.

"Clink" is the sound that is made when newbies don't bother reading and like to ignore anyone else and they find themselves randomly hit with a hammer that fell out of a senior SD'er's hands...
So to speak.:D

That was me being nice.

:P

The odd thing is that they would never take me, for over a year I tried and never got accepted... I only ever got their PTs through other companies but I clicked the scrolling link on the homepage the other day and got an email earlier today.

DanniDee 06-03-2010 04:31 AM

I get dropped too after 7 years. I didn't get any explanation, just stopped receiving surveys and I emailed them to find out what was going on, and only then did they send me an email.
Was upset at first, but since they dropped the payment from $5 to $3 I was not happy with them anyway.

There is helping others, being helped by others... then there is being totally lazy and refusing to help yourself. People who don't take the time to read anything but the first few lines of the OP won't even help themselves, idk why they expect others to. The majority of the problems with survey companies lately seem to be caused by lazy people seeking rewards, I won't help those people cause more problems.

Neither will I. If you're too lazy to read two pages of a thread on SD, you're too lazy to be a good survey taker.

Thanks for the further clarification. I do see your points and totally agree. I know yourself, myself, and many others on here do take surveys very seriously and I am all for being honest when completing a survey and/or PT.

Indeed seriously. Kinda off topic but I'm psyched about it. I've had dry scalp for over 6 years, and because I did a survey site thoroughly they sent me a product to test for them. I've tried dozens of products with no success. This new product I tested cured my dryscalp in 2 days and I am completely in love with the site and makers. I wish I could pay them for sending it to me. This survey stuff is not meant to be taken lightly, there are some surveys that could lead to great progress, so people put in effort to read everything. Surveys are not all about money.

That is really great to hear. I always like it when you get to try something new and you end up loving the product.:D

Problem with that when you like the product they don't always tell you the brand name.

They did, they put a big white label with the product name, manufacturer, and what it will be called if/when it makes it on the market. I sure hope it does! This product was unbelievable!

Either that or when you take the follow-up survey...

How would you rate the BRAND item sent to you?

Which would you prefer to use?
- BRAND item
- My usual item

So true. Sometimes I can try to guess by the design and shape of the package or container the product comes in but other times, it is a big mystery.

I have been driving myself nuts over a shampoo I tested for Synovate over a year ago. Best shampoo ever; it made my curls completely poof-free and gave them almost a lacquered shine, plus it smelled like heaven. I wanted to cry when I used the last of it. Since then I have sniffed every new shampoo I come across in an attempt to find it, no luck yet. I think they should send out info on products we test if/when they are brought to market..

I wish I could of had some of that to try since I know how frustrating it is to find the ideal shampoo and conditioner for curly hair without looking like a frizz ball:D

After 4 years I was dropped from Pinecone because I couldn't check my e-mail for 3 weeks while I was in the hospital. I e-mailed them and they said I was autodropped and they cannot reverse it. If anyone finds a banner or anything, would you please PM me? I would REALLY appreciate it.

FVBuddy 06-04-2010 04:00 PM

I don't think you can re-join, as they already had your record in the system and therefore would decline your offer. Isn't that right?

This is correct, sadly.

l0new0lf 06-13-2010 08:31 AM

$1 surveys next?

Just got survey 47887-1001 which said I would be reviewing 3 products?? I let the $5 to $3 thing go a while back but this is too much. This will be the first Pinecone survey in five years I'lll gladly pass on. It's unfortunate that we have people who are willing to put up with this.

Is there a time limit on this or does this mean forever as far as re enrolling? I was dumped about a month ago, (after nine years of loyalty) and I thought that maybe I could try to rejoin 6 to 12 months later. I hope that perhaps I could re enroll at some point later down the road?

thanks

Me too I did about 4 surveys for them this week none that have to do with this pt I think unless this is from a household eval I have no clue but I like it too. I know 1 person talked about 3 prods in one survey but this one has two but they both have different survey numbers and seperate evals too.

has anyone heard anything more about the $75 video PT?

anyone else notice the new updated Terms that we are supposed to agree to?

says we can be removed from the panel for:

Removal or deletion of the Nielsen "Flash" cookie

i don't know if this is new to the terms but i delete all tracking junk including flash cookies every few days....i have about 5 different programs just to check on and delete flash cookies....

i'm wondering what it means though...i notice that Pinecone is apparently owned by a section of Nielsen and Nielsen makes money from tracking and compiling data on web surfers....if enforced, seems like this might be a way for Nielsen to get free data off Pinecone users(that Nielsen is normally paying people for - to DL their tracking software) or maybe its just an easy out if Pinecone wants to remove a user in the future(?).......i just thought it was strange to see that listed in the new terms...

Important Security Notice:

We have been made aware that third parties may be attempting to use the names and logos of Pinecone Research "mystery shopping" assignments. Essentially, the victim is provided a fake check and advised to cash it, and then use some of the proceeds to test a service (for example, testing a Western Union wire transfer). The victim is advised that he or she may retain the balance from the cashed check as payment, however, the check later bounces.

Please be aware that Pinecone Research has no involvement in these fraudulent transactions. Participating in our surveys is always free of charge, and we never ask our panelists to cash a check for a large amount and then use the proceeds to “test” a service.

I got a lotion test that I loved once but they wanted it back... so I squeezed the rest into a plastic bottle and sent them back the empty container  Still got paid.

patrossi2004 10-10-2010 09:15 PM

I got so many surveys from Pinecone ...they paid $3.00 per survey...the ones I got were 20 mins or more...I quit them...come on !!!! they pay less than minefield or valued opinions..thats pretty bad

cdonahue07 10-10-2010 09:27 PM

i've never got a survey from pinecone that's more than 15 minutes, but the $3.00 gets added to my paypalt within the week. theyre my favorite & i've never had any problems at all.

Just a quick question... Does anyone know if you get in trouble if you don't send back the test product? My hubby accidentally threw out the empty container, so I couldn't send it back. Thanks!!

I did that on accident a little while ago. I just emailed her and let her know. And no, nothing happened. I still gets tons of surveys and product tests. I just make sure not to throw away anything now...or at least I try. :O

PineCone Research has been terrific to participate with. Don't pay alot per survey, yet pay the very next day thru Paypal, and now getting product trials regularly, with latest one having arrived yesterday. Very grateful for having joined them.

Wow. SD said I just reached Apprentice status with this post.
I'm not sure what that really means, yet sounds better than 'novice."

What did I get from them: " Unfortunately, there are no available openings for members with a household make-up that aligns with yours at this time. However we will keep your registration for a few weeks in case a spot opens up". :(((((
Ok, will be waiting

I've tried dozens of products with no success. This new product I tested cured my dryscalp in 2 days and I am completely in love with the site and makers. I wish I could pay them for sending it to me. This survey stuff is not meant to be taken lightly, there are some surveys that could lead to great progress, so people put in effort to read everything. Surveys are not all about money.

What's the product called? I'd like to know.

I was given an invite by a kind soul from SD several weeks ago and yep, got the same response you did. And this was the second or third time I've tried in the past 6-8 months. Me and my household make-up are very unloved by Pinecone for some reason! Sure wish I knew why...:(

I just took the l o n g e s t survey, over 30 minutes. The questions were so repetitive, I couldn't wait for it too end! (that survey should be more than $3.00.....wish it was still $5.00 per, I miss those)

I hear ya. It sounds like the one I took yesterday. GEEZ!! I almost threw in the towel several times and I've been doing this for years. That one should be worth $6 instead of the usual $3. :lmao:

PineCone Research - #53256

does this one seem weird to others or did they change the layout?

Does anybody know if you were a member in the past (for nine years) but you were removed from the panel, (as they reshape the demographics) are you able to try to rejoin later down the road?

I believe that once you were a member and then you were removed then that's it. :(

Slickdeals has a daily giveaway members can enter. The chances are pretty slim, but only takes a second to enter. When you visit the main slickdeals page, on the upper right hand side there is a box entitled "today's giveaway prize". Go there and view the different ways in which to enter.

Now, now....no complaining. They only switched from $5 to $3 because that is what the users wanted when we had to take that insanely stilted survey with questions like.....

please choose your preference:
1. get paid $0 per survey
2. get paid $3 per survey instead of $5
3. get kicked in the head

I've been a member for about 5 years and got booted too. I hadn't been able to do every survey they sent but had tried to do more of them after they sent the "Your not doing enough surveys and are risking to be kicked out" e-mail. Stupid me didn't just contact them and say I needed to take a break due to having a lot going on.

It's weird not getting surveys from them anymore.

Question on Pinecone, any help appreciated, sorry for the bump.

So I FINALLY got in about 4 months ago. They sent me my first product test about 2 weeks ago and told me my follow up questions would be emailed within 1.5-2 weeks

I got an email yesterday saying they were available. 24 hours later, I go to click on it and it tells me the study is now closed.

Is this normal? Do you really need to respond THAT quickly when they send you follow ups? Am I going to get kicked out for receiving the PT and not completing the follow up?

Thanks for any help!

I must have gotten that same one - much longer than normal and not at all cool. I was pissed by the end of it. Was not hosted by Pine Cone, which I have also never seen before. They did pay on time but so not worth it.

really? I have had the paypal option for over a year, I believe I just switched right over from checks to paypal...

thehip 11-21-2011 08:30 PM

Interesting, I thought they got rid of checks altogether. Do not know why they are wasting money printing and mailing checks still.

Nebulizah 11-22-2011 12:29 AM

I've been with them for about 6 months and have had PayPal for about the past 4... I recall them sending me an email letting me know about the option... didn't see it when I initially signed up so I got paper checks for the first two months.

As far as a survey not even hosted by Pinecone, I haven't seen any of those either. If I do, I'll probably just exit out of it.. not worth the time.

Wow, that's interesting PineCone replied to you and said the Paypal payment option is only through invite. I've been doing the little Pinecone surveys for 2 years now and don't even remember when they switched me to Paypal option but it's been a long time for me now. Here's to your getting that special invite soon and if not, at least you are still earning and just takes longer to get that check in the mail.

Yikes! Most of Pinecone studies I received only used to take the 20 min average yet I've also been experiencing their 'newer' survey environments for some of their surveys and those have taken longer. An entire hour for only $3 is just adding insult to injury.
I continue doing their little surveys though as they send them on a regular basis now and although I appreciate the extra earnings from them along with the several back to back product trials Ive been accepted into now, their flat rate $3 pay for everything, including two product trials that require 3 - 6 weeks of my time is really not at all equal to the time and effort most of us give them. Oh, I have to go now, I just got a new email survey invite for an onilne survey that will take me 2 hours and pay me $1.50. :D

Thanks for the replies. Basically having the Paypal option would be a lot more convenient instead of having to cash $3 checks. It even costs them more money having to print and mail them out so i don't understand why the option isn't available. When i login under member profiles it says if you have received the email invitation enter your email for the Paypal payments. I did enter my email for that but it never worked. After that i sent an email and i got that reply saying it's invitation only.

No. As per the first posts in this thread:

SD has had a problem with getting in trouble with survey companies. Majority of those companies, especially the larger ones, do not like their survey to be posted on sites such as SD. Mainly because people will see the links here, see the qualification guidelines, and lie to get accepted. That skews their results & target pool. From there, we get letters, emails, and PMs requesting that their information is removed & blocked on our site.

I don't think they get anything. I've gotten emails asking me to refer people but wasn't offered anything in exchange. I think the just don't want it mentioned here because they are often looking for specific types of people and they don't want people lying to join.

you get the joy of sharing pinecone with other family members and friends.

So I was just thinking the other day how it's odd that I haven't had any new surveys from Pinecone for a few weeks now and then all of the sudden today I get 5 of them, most titled "Deadline Approaching" "Last Day to Complete" "Final Chance" even though this is the first time I've been contacted about any of these surveys. I double checked my spam folder to make sure I wasn't missing their emails somehow, but everything seems to be ok on my end...

Anyone else having similar problems with Pinecone?

roushdealer 02-17-2012 02:48 PM

Does anyone know what demographics pinecone is looking for right now? Can someone PM me?

Same thing has been happening to me. I also completed 2 and then got the reminder email that the deadline was approaching, I had to email them to make sure they received my completed surveys.

achris 02-18-2012 10:21 AM

wow how do some of you get several surveys and PT a week? I'm lucky to get 2 surveys from them a month.

Yes they dropped me without even giving me the courtesy of telling me.After 5 years of being a panelist. I only found out because i shot them off an email asking why no survey invites were coming my way. They told me something like they had enough panelists with the same demographic as me. I think it was the fact that when they asked panelists what level was still acceptible to lower compensation to for surveys. I told them i wouldnt do it for sweepstakes. So alot of people getting $5 a survey got dropped.

I just finished a test study PC set up at a facilty I got paid $75 for less then an hour of my time. I am in the same area as PC I see it all the time but the test was Cincinnati, OH not far from me or them. I just thought I would put it out there is anyone was thinking of doing this test. I had to wear an EEG cap and they do put a conditioner in your hair for the electodrodes. but it was really easy. As all things PC were not allowed to talk about what we did or saw but if anyone had any other questions feel free to PM me.

*You have to qualify on your own I can't help you with that part*

I have a similar issue as well. I was finishing a 2 part study and on the very last page i got an error. Sent an email, they said everything is completed... however i am still receiving reminder emails every other day.

I WISH I could talk about the survey I just finished taking for Pinecone!! I have a feeling if you took the same one you're going to know which one I'm talking about :blush2:  - In the many many years of participating in Pinecone never had one quit like this one........(Hope I get the PT for it :lmao:)

Interesting.. I took one today, but I highly doubt it's the one you're referring to.

At first I thought I knew what you are talking about, but it seems your's was an actual product survey. I just got the weirdest household questions survey from them. The questions got super personal and the wording was really unprofessional. I have a feeling they got hacked. I didn't continue after a certain point.

Yes, mine was for an actual product survey (not an after trying the PT survey) where I was paid $3 to take it, not a household question one. Before I took the paid survey I was sent a very personal household question one as well and the next day received the survey for it.

Last week I was paid $9 for 3 surveys, never had that happen before either.

I hadn't gotten anything in awhile and got 6 in the last 2 weeks. I already got paid for each. That has to be a first.

Same here. No idea what is going on. I probably only got six in the the previous 4 months up until a few weeks ago.

Never had 2 PT's arrive a few days apart from Pinecone before and survey's are every week for me now. Rcv'd a PT last Friday and one today.

I used to do it for $5/survey too, and I voiced that I wasn't thrilled with sweepstakes either, but I'm still on the panel. I haven't gotten a PT from them in a loooong time, but I get surveys fairly frequently.

FVBuddy 06-18-2012 11:21 AM

Wow, almost 3 months elapsed between posts. Shows how lame PC is, and how uninterested people are in them anymore. I stopped doing surveys with them when (a) the qualification surveys started taking > 5 minutes, (b) I was disqualified more often than not in these surveys, and (c) They lowered the compensation to $3.

I have never been disqualified from one of their surveys. I didn't realize you could? I joined after they changed it to $3. Would much prefer $5 obviously but do sometimes get great PT's.

Tom950 06-18-2012 12:15 PM

I usually get 1 survey per day from them and never DQ'd. $3/ea

it's not that you get disqualified, but when they send the screener surveys, the ones that end in 3001, that determines which surveys you will and won't get.

rayvn73 06-19-2012 10:40 AM

I wish they did still have the $5 surveys, kind of a bummer that they are all $3 now, but I have done a lot of online surveys, some of which led to product tests (some really cool ones, too!), and I have never had a bad experience with them. I don't get emails from them daily, but several times a week. They pay via PayPal VERY quickly, often paying the next day, so I don't really have anything bad to say about them.

marric 06-20-2012 07:06 AM

I am lucky to get 2 a month and maybe 1 product to test a year. But hey I sure can use those $3.

PhillyBruh 06-28-2012 01:06 AM

I've never heard of being disqualified from a Pinecone Survey. If they send it you qualify was my thinking. Needless to say I enjoy seeing their invites in my inbox since my perception is a quick $3 bucks, that was until the other day however when a certain "name won't be mentioned survey" from them was in my inbox and it took me nearly 25 minutes to complete the survey. I'm glad that I actually got the product today but I'm not used to their surveys being that long in length. Also the survey they sent me today only took 10 minutes. Seems like things are changing once again at Pinecone.

TattyBear 06-29-2012 06:58 AM

Look for another Pinecone survey email. Rather long one but hoping I get the PT for this one.

TattyBear 08-01-2012 01:38 PM

I love them, I think they are one of the best out there, they pay just a little bit, but they pay me via paypal VERY quickly, and I have gotten to try/taste all KINDS of cool things this year

MIAMIGUY305 08-01-2012 06:25 PM

I've been with them for almost 4 years now. I receive about 2 paid surveys per month. Some lead to testing products for another $3. Out of the four years, I've only tested a whole pizza and a teeth whitening kit.

WooHooGuy 08-02-2012 09:00 PM

I received a couple of new one's from them this week. They're still a good company in my book.

This has to be one of the fastest companies. Today I received 2 product tests out of the 3 survey's I took on Wed. Happy to get in on these.

kbenson 08-03-2012 02:16 PM

Yes pinecone one of the very few which do not DQ at the end of the survey, and you know what the reward will be.

Not liking this new points payment system at all...

Edit: Just found the cash option. Thank goodness, the merchandise offers left a lot to be desired...

Diamonique 01-30-2013 12:51 PM

What point system?

Raybombay 01-30-2013 01:31 PM

Got an email about it a few days ago:
Quote:

Dear Panelist,

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new incentive plan to provide additional flexibility for your payment redemption. Soon you will start receiving points for each survey you complete. The points can be redeemed for cash or for items from our website. The value of the points will be equivalent to what you currently receive in cash.

With this change, you will have the option to redeem your points for merchandise after completion of one study or to save the points to redeem a larger item from the website. If you choose the cash-out option you are able to do the same. You can redeem your cash after one survey or you can accumulate points over a period of time and redeem them for a larger check at a later time.

We are happy to be able to add options to your rewards experience. You will receive an email confirmation in the near future to confirm when the transition is complete.

Thank you for your continued interest in our panel and we look forward to being able to include you in future surveys.

Have a great day!

Karen Scott

Diamonique 01-30-2013 01:36 PM

Dear Panelist,

This e-mail is to confirm that your transition to PineCone's points payment with cash-out option is complete and effective upon completion of your next survey.

You will now have the ability to redeem points for rewards or continue to receive cash with the cash-out option.

To learn more about your rewards, you may follow the attached link.

you can choose points or payout

sunninjimmy 01-31-2013 08:49 AM

I'll be choosing the cash payout. Just wondering if we still can cash out after each survey like we used to or if they'll make a minimum payout. Hoping they'll leave well enough alone!

irishsoccermbw 01-31-2013 07:42 PM

I can't believe I've been doing Pinecone Surveys for...hmmm 5 years? If they take away the post survey payouts and switch to points I'm out.

Pinceone (and other survey sites) helped me pay for gas when I was a freshman in undergrad. Wow.
