This post can and should be edited by users like you :)

BACK IN STOCK AS OF 29 JAN 2013 (US)

1) Many users report cracking the glass on their Nexus 4. Here's one such thread and pic related.

*This link shows two cracked phones: one from a waist high drop and the other from a motorcycle crash. Doesn't seem like many users are reporting unwarranted cracks.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/...4-yet.html

2) Users report that their phone gets pretty warm at times and that their charger is defective

http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=2004976

3) Battery life is no better than the Galaxy Nexus. Screen-on time seems to be between 3 and 3.5 hours. (I get 4 if I use a custom rom and kernel on the Gnex). Just wanted to add that I've had the phone for about a week and battery life was really bad, It seemed that google maps was taking up a lot of background data. After disabling location services battery life increased drastically.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1992627

4) Reasons why the Nexus 4 is not worth upgrading to if you already have the Galaxy Nexus

http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1964138

5) Glass around speaker on the Nexus 4 seems to the most prone to breakage. Probably a design defect.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1999345

6) When the Nexus 4 gets hot, and it can do this easily, the screen will turn yellow at the area on top of the CPU. It does this every time the phone gets hot.

Yes, it works with Telus 4G LTE in Toronto. LTE can be activated with a sequence of characters and numbers in the dialpad.

It will likely be compatible with T-Mobile USA LTE, but not other carriers, which operate at a different band.

munkymonkjr 11-27-2012 06:54 AM

Mandatory plea for those only interested in flipping these on ebay -- some of us actually want the phone to use.

Quick FAQ --
Unlocked? Yes.
What US carriers can I use this with? T-Mo or AT&T. T-Mo recommended because 42mbps HSPA+.
Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular? No, go away.
What time is the sale in my local time?
Eastern (New York) -- 3PM, Central (Chicago) - 2PM, Mountain (Denver) - 1PM, Pacific (LA) - Noon

Slick Dealer 11-27-2012 06:55 AM

^^^^That! Please, if you are just going to slang them on ebay, let us who actually want the phone to get first dibs! LOL like people will listen to that

I have a bad feeling the new orders today will result in the same situation a few weeks ago.

1) Out of stock in minutes
2) Web site crashing repeatedly
3) Random people are chosen to have their phones shipped

We shall see.

do a quick google search and you will see that the phone has been torn apart and has the hardware for LTE; albeit only for AWS which is mostly canada, but T-Mo is also launching on the same freq. besides, with hspa+42, do you really need LTE? I pull 12 mbps with my google galaxy nexus (previous version) on T-MO. not sure what I'll use the speeds for, but it's there.
Verizon will probably eventually get their own pone (like they did with the nexus) and have LTE support. this is GSM phone.

This is a phone, not a tablet/MP3 player.

As for people sitting on the fence, I'll give my impressions (I was lucky enough to actually get mine).

The screen is great. It's not over-saturated, so if you like how ridiculously colorful the galaxy nexus is, this one won't be as intense, but personally I think it looks better.

There were a lot of worries about battery life, but after playing with my for most of the day the last few days, I still almost always have battery left at the end of the day. Considering I'm using the phone like crazy because I just got it, that's pretty good.

The curved edges of the screen sound gimmicky, but it's actually really nice for swiping left and right. Overall, the phone feels pretty good in my hand (although I have small hands, so it's occasionally hard to reach something, but I'll probably get used to that). It's slim and light, so the size isn't a problem for me at all.

No micro-sd slot sounds like it could be an issue for some, but I go the 8gb and I doubt I'll ever have an issue. My music is all stored in the cloud on Google Music, and if I take a ridiculous amount of pictures/video I'll just upload them all somewhere and not worry about it. Either way, I doubt I'll have a serious need for more space. The SD slot would be nice, but unless you reallllllly think you'll need that extra space, it probably shouldn't be a deal-breaker.

Good luck gettin' your N4's, guys :)

Bushdog 11-27-2012 07:37 AM

Not compatible with FoxFi, so I'll wait it out a while, I think....

I don't understand the whole glass back thing either. Is it just for looks?
Seems like some sort of scam because of course your going to drop it once.

shhaggy 11-27-2012 07:41 AM

:sigh:, the answers to these questions are available and some people are just too lazy to read up and find them. The LTE chip in the phone is fully functional, however necessary hardware to accompany it is MISSING. There is no signal amplifier or filter installed. The only reason the modem was left in there is because the phone is based on the LG Optimum G, and it would've been cost prohibitive to produce the same exact chipset with the modem removed. But the chip was never designed to work. Yes, it can be enabled, and yes, it will work in areas with strong signals. But it will not work reliably, long term, ever, with any carrier.

If you're happy getting LTE in bits and spurts and the shitty battery life that goes with having that chip active, by all means, go nuts.

Any of u that purchase on the first clusterfudge! round... What was the shipping , tax break down... And do they increase shipping if u order more then one... Trying to narrow the cost for a pair + bumpers..

Would the bumpers really make a difference ??

I was leaning on waiting for the Nexus 5 next year.. maybe Google would have learn by then that either a 32GB or a 8GB with SDCard slot are a must period...

I got one first round and it was 13.99 for shipping and 24.84 tax. I would say pass on the bumpers since cases are becoming available now from other companies.

Also, how would they "learn" that lesson when the phone is selling so well without it?

Get your google wallet ready with credit card details already added.

Try to buy it only after 1200 PST and don't try the refresh trick. Lessons learnt with Google store!

And yeah, use Discover card for some cashback!!

p.s : I already got the 16GB variant. It is really slick and quick. I also have an iPhone 5. Usability rocks on the iPhone. Nexus 4 is more for geeks like me and tinkerers!

Yes to both... As an estimate put a nexus 7 in your cart. I get a $15 charge for 2 day shipping and the taxes for my state (Oklahoma).

SlickPickSlim 11-27-2012 07:54 AM

At least this deal doesn't require hassle of being on a wired connection using custom scripts like amazon lightning. Random drawings, I like the democracy that is Google, I'll give them that.

xur17 11-27-2012 07:56 AM

Their site is going to fall apart. I am already getting: "Due to high demand, your order could not be processed. Please try again later." when I try to checkout with a Nexus 7 in my cart to view shipping charges.

Also, how would they "learn" that lesson when the phone is selling so well without it?

They are not releasing the number of sales.. So we don't know how many units they actually had for sale... + The clusterfk! of their site would make u think the half the world population wanted the phone since most had to keep trying to put them in the cart and making it stay there... The 2 per account at least makes it seem that they are learning... But at a very slow pace....

Naw, that's just SD'ers learning about the refresh trick for the first time and testing out en mass.

Seems like some sort of scam because of course your going to drop it once.

What I don;t know is, why these rich people are willing to sell more than the retail price
after 2 months of release- IF THEY ARE SO RICH.
(Note:- apple delivery reduced to 1Week for new phones)

So, I don't agree Apple products are for rich -

Beware, these phones do NOT support memory expansion as far as I know. You get 8 GB or 16 GB and that is all. I have a total of 48 Gig in my phone via a micro SD card. Much better for music, videos, etc.

Just a buyer beware thing.

8GB will have better chance of avoiding scammers who are more likely to go after 16GB if you are trying to resell once u have phone in hand.

cmon, join the Google sheep. the cloud is the future. soon phones will have 256 MB of storage so we can all upload personal files to google.

Can anyone confirm whether 4.2 supports group-texting in a similar way to iOS, where messages can be sent to a group of recipients and received from multiple recipients in the same thread?

I have read reports that this was fixed for 4.2.

Probably... But Google likes to make it look like they are releasing updated HW at it's I/O in June so I can see the 8GB version disappearing & seeing only a 16GB & 32GB versions after that till the Nexus 5 if the Nexus 7 history repeats itself...

rsx1213 11-27-2012 08:14 AM

Anyone have an idea on what the price might be? I see 16GB Nexus are going for $350 on ebay. Google's $299 after tax (New York) will cost $325. Might as well spend an extra $25 for 16GB or so.

Yes I will be credited back for shipping (not sure what kind of credit??), however reason for cancellation is mainly because of my bad experience with Nexus 7, I bought it for $249 and within 2 weeks, 32gb become $249.

I dont want to end up with Nexus 4 only to find improved or more GB available for same price.

Hate to say it but you're not very good at math are you? Extra $50 for the 16GB is still going to be there as each retail value is respectively $300 and $350 regardless of tax. Your price with tax for the 16GB is going to be around $380

How can people flip this when you have to sign up for a contract?

Y314K 11-27-2012 08:26 AM

It's very simple.... If u have GSM provider with LTE on Band 4 in u'r area then u can mod not hack but mod the phone settings to see the LTE using the HSPA+ antena and amp... The CPU chip is capable of using that one antena to see both... How stable or how good is it since most of time HSPA & LTE are achieve with separate hardware (antennas and amps and other stuff)... Could make u'r phone last less with the stress of having to do both HSPA and LTE on the same hardware... Or if can be much better since the battery hit should be 25% or more less juice needed... We don't know.. But it's nice to have the option...

In the US TMobiles plan 2013 LTE suppose to be on Band 4... Also their possible new partner MetroPCS is moving to Band 4 for their existing LTE too.. And already is in one or two cities from what I've read... Everybody else is on other Bands... There might be one or two cities where ATT might be using Band 4 too...

You can call AT&T and tell them to switch you to No-Data Plan before using this phone.

StraightTalk for $45/month ($48-49 after tax/fees), or $500/year. Unlimited talk, text, data. They have a soft cap of 2.3GB a month I believe. They are an AT&T (and T-Mobile, I believe) MVNO, so you are basically using their cell towers but paying a much cheaper price.

Yato 11-27-2012 08:42 AM

Straight Talk from all the research/reviews.

my brother is looking for a carrier and straight talk comes up a lot. people been complaining about throttle issues, some not at all.

That is the Nexus 3, I believe. The Nexus 4 is made by LG.

If you insist on getting this glass phone, then combining with tmobile monthly 4G for $30 a month is fast if you have good coverage. I am in an excellent coverage area and got 14 Mbps down with this phone.

I sold the phone for a nice profit and moved on. It is too small of storage and too risky with the glass for me

I don't know if you can choose which carrier you use. I use StraightTalk on my iPhone 4S and I don't have the option to choose which carrier I want to operate off of. It will generally switch between which carrier has the better coverage in your area, so it almost exclusively operates on AT&T in my area. StraightTalk uses AT&T and T-Mobile's 3G and HSPA+ networks.

I love that it doesn't have LTE becuase LTE is a huge CF and there's no set standard. This phone is for true SD'ers who use it on a prepaid service such as Straight Talk or prepaid Tmobile.

My wife has this phone on Tmobile and there's very little real world data speed difference between it and my Verizon LTE Gnex.

Thanks! Reputation points for the both of you.

I'll have to learn more about the 2.3GB softcap.

Yes, my wife is using Straight Talk tmobile and gets 16mbps downloads.

When your buying your sim card from Sraight Talk just specify that it's for a Tmobile phone. You WILL have to cut down the sim card to get it to fit. I did it with a template I downloaded, scisors and a file for fine tuning.

That just means that if you use more than 2.3GB a month, I've heard that they kick customers from the service plan. I'm not so sure how nice their customer service is, but I've had no problems with my service on my iPhone 4S. If you have good T-Mobile coverage in your area, you might want to look for the monthly 4G T-Mobile plan mentioned by other people.

Yes. GrooveIP might be a decent way of getting more minutes if you don't mind the slight delay (and preferably have WiFi available).

Yup, I've played with Straighttalk, but I didn't really need the minutes since I use free voip so I switched. With t-mo, tax-free refills at a discount are more widely available so I save ~20 a month
