Lowe's: DEWALT 100-Piece Drilling / Screwdriving Bit Set $24.97 Clearance (YMMV)

Lowe's now has on clearance the DEWALT 100 piece metal twist drill bit set for $24.97 (save 50%). Link: http://www.lowes.com/pd_111659-79...s_dollar|1

This set was previously on sale through 11/12/12, and the related SD discussion can be found here (thanks Buckeyefan1):
http://slickdeals.net/f/5458174-D...-97-Lowe-s

If you missed that sale, you can now find the set on clearance. YMMV - may not be available in all stores. I think this might be better than the (now expired) Black Friday deal, the 75 piece set w/ bag for $20.

Also, remember cash back via ShopDiscover and other sites. Hope this helps someone.

I believe so, yes. (If anyone else would like to confirm, that would be great!)

tuckerz 11-27-2012 08:23 PM

Too many worthless screwdriver bits and not enough good drill bits.

It says "Black Oxide" but no indication of "impact" so far as I can see. I think it's just a drill & drive set.

This Kobalt 70 piece [lowes.com] is impact ready and $14.98

Over? Lowe's clearance is VERY YMMV; just about every store near me (Twin Cities) has 5+ on hand still.

Is this a good deal?

It's a decent variety to have on hand. If someone doesn't have much in the way of bits and drivers it will definitely provide a reasonable base set up.

Fair deal, but not hot. If it was hot i would buy up a couple sets. I passed completely and the store I was at yesterday had at least several dozen on hand.

I buy a lot of various bits and drivers for my work. This set would be decent if I needed a lot of different bits that I did not already have.

I have a makita impact, and use regular bits all the time. They work fine and last a long time.

BigArce 11-28-2012 05:14 AM

The Dewalt set is still available at that price by me - Maryland stores.

rixsaw 11-28-2012 06:26 AM

Personally, I like this Hitachi set better. It's $19.20 AC (Cyber82) + SH

That is a nice set but the expensive shipping kills it for me.

Black kit is impact ready (label is on the case itself). My Dewalt impact driver kills regular bits quickly. Kobalt impact bits are not nearly as long lasting as Dewalt. The Philips #2s sheared in half driving drywall screws. Haven't busted a Dewalt bit yet!

Krogan 11-28-2012 07:17 AM

Does anybody actually notice a difference when working with impact ready bits vs regular bits?

Hubby has told me in the past..... no, not really.

old_english_d 11-28-2012 07:29 AM

Is this worth buying for my craftsman 19.2 volt c3 drill? I know it doesn't have much power and I'm thinking these bits are for more powerful drills.

These are nothing fancy, and your drill is perfectly capable.

Keyser_Soze_09 11-28-2012 08:03 AM

Nice deal, I'll pick one up this weekend. The DeWalt titanium bits are good but I've broken a few over the last months - didn't have masonry bits and didn't want to go to the store. Stupid, I know, but the point is they drilled through brick when they weren't supposed to. Will definitely replace with this set, lots of xmas lights to hang, etc :-D.

Thanks for confirming; also, nice first post! Welcome!

Thanks to all for the lively discussion, glad to see buyers (at least 7 so far).

And who's giving this deal a thumbs down for "poor merchant reputation"? Lowe's? Really?

Poor reviews on amazon and $8.42 shipping via BigSky kills this bit set.
reviews = bits break easy

It does look like a nice set though.

thumper300zx 11-28-2012 10:41 AM

I've had the Dewalt drill bits (included in the four set-set) for years. I do really like them. I think they were $5/set at Ace a long time ago.

This set was on slickdeals a while ago for I think $14.97 + tax. I got one, brought it home -- haven't used it. Everything looks a bit cheap. Any used 'em?

pablocordoba 11-28-2012 10:46 AM

That's A LOT OF screw driver bits, not enough drill bits, pass.
I would rather get actual drill bit set including metal/concrete. Especially concrete ones are hard to find, individually they cost around $3-$4, and if you need to drill older construction houses where they have cement and a solid metal girder few inches behind it, you will curse for not getting a high quality drill bit.

If you don't have enough screw drivers, then get this, you will lose them quickly anyway. Otherwise nope. pass.

You shouldn't. It's like using impact vs regular sockets. Regular sockets will work on an impact wrench, but they'll break easier.

Rokket 11-28-2012 11:02 AM

Hey, FP! Yay! Thanks daisybeetle and all!

chaibas 11-28-2012 12:23 PM

The black set is Impact Ready. I own it.

In for one! Thanks OP!

ULTiMaX99 11-28-2012 01:35 PM

i bought this set during the pre-bf sale. ended up returning it cuz the plastic that holds the bits in place is retarded. it's a little difficult to put the bits back in the holders.

buening 11-28-2012 02:18 PM

Be careful with the yellow labels at the actual Lowes stores. They have their yellow "clearance" labels and they have their yellow "new lower price" labels. The new lower price on the label is pretty small and easily overlooked, and have been burned by this in the past. I'm not saying these aren't clearance items, but check the yellow labels in the stores to see what it actually says

^^^^^What he said^^^^^ Looks like about 10 actual drill bits and 90 inexpensive assorted driver tips, which I already have dozens and dozens of. If it really was a "DEWALT 100-Piece Metal Twist Drill Bit Set" it would be a great deal. I think Lowes is being a bit optimistic in their description here.......pass

The web site actually says that it is a new lower price, not clearance.

Either way, the set is marked down 50%, which seems like clearance pricing to me (at Lowe's anyway).

Not really, you can go in there any day and look at the tools and see their sets marked down 50% w/ the sign saying new price. Clearance means not carrying it anymore, new price says that is what the new everyday price is. JMO

Okay, here's an idea. Go to the Lowe's website. In the search box, type "home improvement clearance" or even just "clearance." See what you find. If you'd like, sort by "best sellers" and you might just find this set on the first page of results (SD effect). Hope this works for you, it did for me.

dcobb 11-28-2012 07:36 PM

I prefer a larger 1 piece set rather than 4 smaller ones which just seems more cumbersome

XBoughtonX 11-29-2012 02:53 PM

I felt the need to reply to this deal - I just got back from Lowe's to pick up some hardware for a project I am doing. While looking around the hardware area I remembered seeing this deal. I pulled up the deal on the Lowe's site, got the item number and had the clerk show me where they were. There they sat on the shelf with the $49.99 price tag.

I showed him the $25 price online and he told me that I needed to get it online because the website and the physical store are 2 different things; each have their own discounts. I couldn't talk him into price matching so I ordered and paid online choosing in-store pick up. I carried the bits around while continuing to shop until I got the "your order is ready" email.

It's a nice set in my opinion as I have needed to pick up some more Phillips heads as they break on my woodworking projects.

Decent Drills and Bits - Junk Case Design

This may sound a bit (no pun intended) off topic but my brother has the 28 piece set with the rapid load adapter. I have vowed never to buy the DEWALT hex shank sets because you can't get the God Blessed drills back in the case without cutting your fingers on them. I mean, they are nice enough drills and bits but what rocket surgeon decided you should not to be able to place them back in the case after use without donating a pint of blood? This is why whenever I use my brother's set I find they're always just tossed in there like a pile of Pick Up Stix. And just in case my patience hasn't been tried enough by that "feature", there's always trying to close the case while not losing the 18 odd pieces that can no longer be correctly returned to their proper location.

OK, I feel much better now.

gtrain 11-30-2012 09:50 PM

BTW, the drill bits are gold ferrous and not titanium. Looked at it today and compared to their other sets.

seb.belese 12-05-2012 09:25 AM

Hi,

Is it a better deal than this one (don't really care about the bag)?
