Highly recommend the flex shaft instead of the 160 pc kit. I get all my bits from harbor freight since dremel or not, the bits are only good for a few uses.

If you are trying to do it free hand then a Dremel is more comfortable but if you are following a template then you need a handheld trim router. Most people who carve signs or do inlay work use a router. Here are some carving guides [youtube.com]

Insanely good deal, the MultiTool is usually that price alone. As for bits wearing out in a few uses - I have all my original bits except for the cutting wheels so unless you are really beating these things up (job site) the bits are fine for quite a while....

If you are thinking about getting a dremel to trim your dogs nails I would advise against it. I bought one for just that and my dog flipped out. She HATES it. She is a pretty good sized Labrador retriever and is not easily spooked or skittish. I saw many places about how easy it is to use the dremel to smooth dogs nails and it was a huge waste of money.

I went with the rotary tool work station to get the extra $10..

Just a heads up, the Multi-max oscillating tool from dremel only has a 1.5 amp motor. I'm sure you could make do with it if you just need it for the occasional job, but if you know this will get a lot of use you may want to get a more powerful unit. Lowes had a 3 amp porter cable on sale for $70 for black friday - but it's back up to $139 now.

I got this set back in July for $99 from Amazon. I really love the set. I've used the rotary and the trio a ton. Realize that the Trio requires the larger 3/16 shank vs the 1/8.. which unfortunately limits you to buying it's own bits from dremel. So you'll be spending some more $ to make this set useful...

I really want a dremel 4000... but at this price, I would have to be stupid to not order.

That last line is not true as the A card only gives you $10.

I just bought a craftsman corded multi-tool yesterday for $40 after reading the comparisons on the link below. I was having buyers remorse after seeing this deal until I saw that the multi-tool in this set only has a 1.5A motor. That isnt enough power considering that the dremel multi-max in the comparison was 2.5A model and was still underpowered compared to the competition.

It is an amazing deal overall, but dont buy it for the oscillating multi-tool.

Anyone know how this set compares in performance to the Craftsman Nextec Multi-Tool and Rotary Tool in this thread that went FP?

I know the Nextec is cordless, but more interested in performance and versatility. I have an old Roto-Zip that I'm looking to replace; and pretty much use for occasional odd jobs around the house. I got in on the Nextec deal, but am now wondering if I should return in and get this set. Any help is appreciated!

Yeah. If you have a thousand tomorrows promised to you. Dremels will cut just about anything, but at a huge expense of time compare to a wet saw (stone, tile, porcelain), cold saw (metal), reciprocating saw (just about anything). You get the idea. If you have only a few feet to cut...fine. If you have dozens, or hundreds of feet to cut, buy (or rent) the proper tool. Cheers.

After getting mine, I kinda wish that I would have gotten the cordless. Although the cords really haven't been a burden.

Well, it's for a kitchen backsplash... Only corners, outlets, and end sections would need anything cut at all. Likely it will be 2"-4" tiles being used for the project and only a small percentage of tiles would need to be cut.

I cancelled my order from a few days ago and then this one sold out. DEAD! I missed it. Crap, back to Christmas shopping!

question is how many bits will you eat up in the process, and will they cost more than renting a wet saw for an hour from home depot... it might be close. Itll certainly take longer.
