Arreo 11-28-2012 11:02 AM

Just for clarification, because my brain was mislead by the title, this is not a pocket knife with wooden blades. It is a normal pocket knife with a wooden body.

executivedealer 11-28-2012 11:04 AM

What is the quality on this item? Unable to find any reviews on it either.

dmcpotter 11-28-2012 11:22 AM

Bought 3, hope they're decent quality.

Had 2 JCP gift cards so this was a good way to buy some stocking stuffers.

TU and REPPED +2

arribasn 11-28-2012 12:00 PM

I've gotten this Eddie Bauer branded knives before, the quality is not that great (loose fitting blades, low quality SS that will rust, tools that look like they want to pop out and very heavy weight for the siz) but I guess okay for occasional use stocking stuffer but I wouldn't give it to any outdoors person that wants to use regularly. I much rather have a $20 gerber/leatherman that often come on sale or you can get about 3 equivalent swiss army knifes on amazon for about $30-35 with their current promotions

tstarks420 11-28-2012 12:02 PM

Pfft...wooden blade. Good luck with that.

New_World 11-28-2012 01:06 PM

okinawanmatt 11-28-2012 01:11 PM

Official CTU issued pocket knife designed by the cousin of Jack Bauer? Eh? Anyone??

...obligatory meme [tumblr.com].

rockmo 11-28-2012 01:21 PM

Eddie Bauer??? He'll put his name on any piece of crap!

sah0724 11-28-2012 01:31 PM

Now that would be different. Reminds me of George Washington's wooden teeth.

Anyhow, this appears to be a decent deal.. I recently lost my go-to pocket knife while fishing and could use a new one. This should fit the bill, for the same and/or similar purposes.

Thumbed & repped accordingly.

I wouldn't either, and I'm half white/half hispanic. At least, not all the time. If I'm hiking, camping or fishing etc. I would recommend carrying a pocket knife, at the least.

It was charging me shipping initially for ship to store but later in the checkout process, the shipping charge disappeared and changed to Free.

fuzzyfacedog 11-28-2012 01:37 PM

jcpenny so far from me, and they are always bewildered when i pick up an online order.

Got a few of these, a couple of the fork/spoon ones, and the $8 place settings to donate to the animals shelter (for scooping food from cans).

:)

thx op.

fauxden 11-28-2012 01:43 PM

Looks good until you realize that you can't hold the knife in one hand and the fork in the other, like most people do when they cut food.

It works fine in the wilderness. You cut with the knife, and flip the tool around and use the fork to eat. Like the spork things that are at every REI or EMS.

Can you recommend something decent that is reasonably priced? I doubt the person I'm buying it for will be trekking through the woods, but I would like to get him something that will hold up over time.

Pocket tools are a bit like underwear, you gotta know the person a bit to know what to get for them, even if you knew their size (boxers, briefs, banana hammocks, not-underwear-since-they-commando).

Anyway, if they are more of an about-the-house or cityfolk, you might look at leatherman-style multitools instead of swiss army knife style, mainly for pliers closer to full size. Swiss army knives tend to favor outdoorsy use.

If you just want a decent stocking stuffer, check out the Home Depot house brand Husky multitools [homedepot.com]. There's a two-pack that usually sells around $5-7 and it's pretty decent for the price. Probably good enough to gift as a first-time multitool or as backups. HD inventory checker may not be accurate, so best to check in-store around checkout or near the knives/multitools shelf in hardware. Maybe even just print out that HD page and have them look up inventory properly in-store.

If you happen to look at real Swiss Army Knives, the model name gives you a good clue to who it's aimed for. For example, Tinker for workbench-types, Hunstman for camping. The Champ is probably the main all-around line, and the Classic is probably as bare as you want to get with a multitool without focusing squarely on a dedicated knife.

AndrewL6295 11-28-2012 06:16 PM

The deal seemed busto online, so I went down to Brea JCP. Those knives are tucked in the mens section pretty quietly, and they're marked at $10, but they DID ring up $5 apiece.

The quality looked decent for the price, didn't seem flimsy or ill-made to me.

Also got these for $5 too: http://www.jcpenney.com/dotcom/bl...Id=&regId=

For 5 bones, awesome stocking stuffers.

The quality you would expect for a $5 knife, $0.50 for each tool.

When you go camping, you do not expect a three (or seven) course meal where you need to cut beef steak with knife and fork at the same time. It is meant for camping, and meant to be compact, and not fancy.

When you eat when camping, you never need to use a knife and fork at the same time? Not all of us eat cold cuts and bowls of cereal all weekend when we camp. Some of us actually grill/cook stuff that needs to get cut.
