Usually you have to have a total of 200.00 in food and drink. Alcoholic beverages being included is at the discretion of the proprietor. So if you're having a big get together the bare minimum you'll spend is 100.00 That doesn't include the gratuity. Usually that is put on your total so make sure when you're settling up your bill.

Bought one. I assume the seller will send the code via email. Haven't received mine yet, and I don't see any "restrictions" on the website about a specific place we'd like to use it. Guess I'll know more about the restrictions once I get the code to activate on the site.

They used to have their deals 80%-90% off, so a $10 coupon would end up costing $1-2. Haven't seen that kind of discount for a year, so I'm guessing this is their way of bringing that price back? Good deal

I used to use them a lot a few years back. That's basically how it works. Always read the fine print on their GCs. So in your example, you're right that you'd be paying $25 out of pocket (plus the cost of the $25 GC and usually, almost all of the restaurants automatically add 18% gratuity to the bill too)

the best value are the $10 for $25 coupon, where the bill has to be at least $35. So basically you have to pay $10 + tax and tips after using the coupon ($35 order - $25 coupon = $10). All the other coupons you have to spend at least 2x the coupon.

This really isn't a good gift idea at all, you're not really "giving" something since the certificate requires spending double the amount. They have changed a lot in the past few years, never did they have the $$ rule

It really depends on the place. I've seen some that are $25 off $50 and $25 off $37.50 which aren't as good. I've also seen $10 off $15 which is a pretty good and $50 off $75 which is also decent, and $15 off $22.75. Also depending on the place some will only charge tax on the discounted amount which while not correct is ideal.

Not every restaurant. Back when I first started using them, about 30-40% of the restaurants didn't have a minimum, just the mandatory gratuity.

You apply the gift card as credit to your account. Effectively, what this means is that you get a 91% discount on the gift cards your purchase on the website. In addition, if you have a $25 gift card with a spend a minimum of $50, and the $25 gift card cost you $15, you would be saving $10 outright, plus the $15 you put towards that $25 coupon on the site is discounted 91% already. So, the math:

$50 bill - ($25-$15 paid) = $10 off the first $25 spent (due to the purchased coupon) = $40 (so savings of $10)

However, the $15 paid for the $25 coupon actually cost you ($15 x .09) = $1.35

So, the math is actually $50 bill minimum - ($25-$1.35 ACTUALLY paid for the $25 coupon) = $23.65 savings off a $50 minimum bill. Effectively half off.

And the savings scale as you get larger gift cards, as your out of pocket expense is only 9% of the purchase price of the coupon you use.

Thus, this is a VERY good deal.

In southern california (long beach area) I never saw a restaurant without minimum purchase requirements :(

Btw, I emailed him about combined shipping and he said that he sends the cards by email, usually with redemption codes, but can send actual gift certificates (useful if giving them as gifts)

Every year this crap comes back. Just make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. These are not a deal to me at any price, even free.

So I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. In my area, there is only one business (chinese) that is part of restaurant.com. I can buy for 4 dollars a 10 dollar gift certificate with a minimum purchase of only 10 dollars.

Does that mean I can effectively get 25 meals for 8.99 plus gratuity? (100 divided by 4 bucks)

Way back when the program first started there was not a mandatory spending rule, just the gratuity requirement on the full amount before certificate was applied... Ever wonder why they have all of the 90% off codes? All it really is now is advertising for the restaurants; they are the ones who are getting a great deal, not us :lmao:

The place I am looking at seems to have the minimum set at 10 dollars per the listing. The increments of gift card is 2 dollars for 5 dollar gift card or 4 dollars for 10 dollar gift card; maximum of 4. So, if I order 4, I would get a 40 dollar gift card and would have to use it on at least 10 dollars worth of food. Correct?

No. You would purchase 4 certificates at the going rate: $2 or $4, then you would be entitled to 4 dining outs with $5 (or $10) food minimums. Each certificate is for a separate dine out. You could give each cert as a gift, or keep them for your own uses.

Your $100 value goes directly towards the value of value of the ceterficate! Which means you get 4 $25 certificates! Even if a $25 certificate cost $10.

Still a good deal! The cheapest you can get is usually $2 for a $25 certificate at the end of the month.

Wow, seems too good to be true, then again, last year they were doing some odd $25 certificates for $1. So I spent some odd $5 on 2 of my close favorite restaurants.

For those wondering why you would use these if it requires a minimum, restaurant.com suggests trying new items or splurging on the menu (Get an appetizer, dessert etc) or take a group. It's likely you won't be spending LESS at the restaurant, however you'll be getting more worth out of your money. The general rule is to give the certificate to the wait staff before you order so they can confirm it and there won't be issues.

It's eBay so I'm always a little weary but for $10 (And out of almost 1000 sold so far) I'll bite.

This information is correct. I bought one of these a while back thinking I could double dip the discount. In the end you pay about the price for a gift "certificate."

I'm 100% sure that this is their business model. You make it sound great on paper, but add so much crap in the fine print that it all the hassle becomes not worth it for a lot of people.

In Denver, CO, we found one place that we like that's actually on Restaurants.com, we've tried a couple others and were disappointed. If there's a place you already like or want to try check them out, but in general it seems like good restaurants don't often work with Restaurants.com.

The reason these deals suck so much is because the restaurant gets literally zero of the gift certificate amount, so business owners/waiters will tend to hate you. If you think you get treated badly with a Groupon (where at least the business gets around half of the amount you spent to get the Groupon), good luck with one of these.

Not a bad deal by any means, though it's not uncommon to find these on ebay for $6-7.

The certificates are actually pretty simple to use, I don't understand why people are complaining about the restrictions.

On a side note, neither the $100 credit you are buying nor the individual restaurant certificates you redeem for expire. Also, if you never use a restaurant certificate you've bought, restaurant.com customer service (who are very helpful btw) will convert back into account credit which you can redeem somewhere else.

I have used restaurant.com in the past... make sure where you go still takes the card when you go there.. and make sure that you buy 25 dollar increments. Usually if you buy a 50 dollar card you need to spend 100, and so on... also each restaurant has restrictions on using the gift cards so read them carefully :)

but the deal is legit, and if used properly, these are awesome deals.

also they frequently have 25 dollar gift cards for like 4 dollars, so keep your eyes open

I actually love restaurant.com - I generally buy certs when they're 80% off. I've never had bad service when using one. Good way to try new places or go to a place you already know and love for a bit off the regular price.

for people that are still confused, this is esentially worth about $20 because restaurant.com offers $100 gift certificates for $20 USD all the time (80% off codes). So, while it is a good deal, I would only purchase it if you are planning on using it soon. Be wary of the gratuities and minimum charge requirements.

Make sure you read the terms carefully before buying a gift card for any restaurant from restaurant.com.
For example, if you buy $25 gc, most restaurants requires a $50 minimum purchase to use the GC. Few will even add an extra 18% gratuity to the check if you use the GC and also will not honor any existing offers.

That's not a deal problem, that is a restaurant problem. If you get treated poorly, would you come back? Who is that going to hurt more - you or the restaurant?
After all, nobody forced the restaurant to sign up for this.

For anyone on the fence, go to restaurant.com and see what participating restaurants are in your area. There's a restaurant very near me that I've been wanting to try, so I figure this will take some of the sting off the bill. Be warned however, that the list of restaurants changes regularly, so check the site before making reservations and ask the restaurant if they still accept and if there are any restrictions (day of week, time of day, etc.)

we have dozens of such participating restaurants within our 10 miles radius here in dc metro area. we have been using the coupons in our occasional family outing, mostly the $25 off ones, for some time now. every now and then, we go out to eat using them, spending somewhere between $40 to $60 total (minum $25 ofcourse).

It will be used for the face value of the ceritificates you choose. If you have $100 Restaurant.com Gift Card, you can get (4) $25 or (10) $10 or (2) $50 or any combination up to $100. If they have a sale, it is still the face value, so you can't get a $25 for $3 (Essentially you're getting $100 for $9) ...

I'm still working though the $500 for $30 they had last year! I've already gotten my savings out of it so the rest is just icing on the cake. For those that diss these "coupons", you need to READ the terms on the ones you are going to purchase. There has never been anything hidden in the writing. What you see is what you get.

The owners are the ones that chose to work with Restaurant.com as an easy way of marketing. That's the way to get people to try a restaurant they normally wouldn't. As for the servers, they should LOVE the certificates as it guarantees them at least an 18% tip, which I know a lot of people never leave. I've always tipped in a little more to get to atleast 20% if the service is decent. These waiters and waitresses essentially work for slave wages. Tips make up the rest. Think about that. You're paying their salary for serving you, not the restaurant. I watched a table of 4 leave a $4 tip once on an $80 bill. Tell me that's not ridiculous.

In for 1, I have used Restaurant.com many times in the past with no issues. Great Deal . One more present down.

Folks be VERY aware that usually when you redeem your Restaurant.com cert at a restaurant that participates with the Restaurant.com certificate program, that unlike Groupon, many of the restaurants will only let you use the cert on limited days of the week.

Many, but not all, restaurants limit use on weekends, and as others have said if the restaurant has an existing deal--- Happy Hour, Prix Fixe menu, you'll won't be able to combine the in-restaurant special with your Restaurant.com cert--- this has been the case many times, at many different Restaurant.com merchant restaurants--- one of the reason I gave up paying for a glorified overpriced coupon from Restaurant.com

can 18% gratuity be paid with the certificate as well? Lets says I have 50$ certificate and only used 30$ can they included the tip so I can use the 50$ or do I pay gratuity separately?

Has anyone got an email from the seller that they are low on codes and offering a card for an additional $2 per card. Seems shady to me, prob going to cancel my order.

I hope everyone has a better experience with restaurant.com gift certificates than we did. One restaurant refused to honor the full conditions of the certificate citing the fact that R.com had posted the wrong stipulations. On top of that, a few other restaurants stopped accepting the certificates completely (after we had purchased them) due to supposed problems that they were having with R.com. Lots of places in my area now have warnings posted that they no longer accept their certificates. We had great luck the first few times we used these, but it quickly became more hassle/risk than it was worth. Best of luck to others though!

Also note that most restaurants have a minimum $ spent requirement. So, for example, you purchase a R.com $100 GC for someone as a present. The fine print most likely reads that a $200 minimum purchase is required. While you think you are giving them an awesome gift (for little $ out of your pocket), you are in fact giving them a 50% off coupon to pay for their own dinner. (And you paid for that coupon)

For those not having good luck or worried with R.com use, we have never had issue. As a matter of fact, when using in our favorite city (of champions), we found some places that allow it to be used on ALL purchases, even drinks. While that is abnormal, our luck with other restaurants accepting with no issues is not. Good luck!
