Sup guys,

Well, it's that time of year again. Christmas is around the corner and I'm thinking about starting a SD Black Ops 2 tourney on XBL. (As Tresanus pointed out, I am apparently a glutton for punishment).

This thread is only to gauge interest. If we have enough SD'ers interested we'll move forward. Otherwise, we'll just kill it from the get go. Ideally, we'll have at least 18 SD'ers interested.This tourney WILL allow a few of your non-SD friends but to a maximum of one "outsider" per team.

So update the wiki with your SD username and GT and let's see what happens.

Tournament Rules:
1. 4 vs 4 or 3 vs 3: (8 Teams Total)
2. Double Elimination for entire tourny
3. Best 2 out of 3 rounds wins (Race to 2).
4. Finals will be best 3 out of 5.
5. Gametypes: TBD
6. Scorestreaks: TBD
7. Map Restrictions: TBD
8. Camping can't be regulated or restricted but it is looked down on and you will get no respect.
9. If a team has TWO players that are no shows for a confirmed/scheduled match, AUTOMATIC FORFEIT.
10. At the start of a match, if players join the WRONG side when starting the match and don't jump over before the ticker counts down, this is grounds for AUTOMATIC RESTART of the round.

I might suggest picking the same day (or two) every week for all matches that everyone can commit to beforehand. That may alleviate some of the scheduling issues from last year.

Not a bad idea. But it doesn't always work out. Over the years I've found that scheduling has t obe pretty fluid unfortunately (meaning the scheduler..that would be me...has to mediate between everyone involved INCESSANTLY to find common times..it also involves cajoling those who say that cant make it, into making it, finding subs whenever necessary amongst a few other factors). You can't simply have people fill out the doodle page and not reach out to everyone or follow up with people CONSTANTLY. I'll give it a try this year though as I would LOVE for your idea to work.

However, we're getting ahead of ourselves. Let's see if there's enough interest.

im interested. scheduling could be an issue for me anytime before 10:30pm ET due to parental obligations, but i'll try my best to make the wifey understand.

Roland - Good to see you back in the saddle again Amigo! You can count me and Austin in for sure! As always, feel free to tap me too if you need any coordination or hosting help. I'm excited to try the built-in ShoutCasting tools this year and see how that works.

As for scheduling, you are dead right about having to stay on top of things. Rather than pick a consistent day (which we know from experience won't work for everyone) I think the more consistent thing is to set a deadline on how many rescheudles are done (maybe only allow 1), or a general timeline (say 2 weeks) that your match must be complted in...or risk a forefeit.

As a coordinator, it's very tough to find dates/times for every single person to make, but that is where the team captains also must be stepping up and helping to find acceptable subs or solutions as well. Whether we set a hard limit of "two weeks to get your match done...period" or something like "we scheduled it once...now someone wants a reschedule...but you only get ONE" would be a more realistic method I think of making sure that the tourney continues to move forward. It sucks to have to call a forefeit because scheudles can't get hased out, but that's a call that has to be considered if problems "gridlock" the entire tourney.

Anyway...enough of all that...I hope we get enough interest here! :)

I was hoping you'd pop in! Several good thoughts to consider here. And you know I'll be taking you up on your offer to help schedule some matches when/if it gets down to it.

Wow, this is looking more and more like it's gonna happen. Once Kasty and Skeeza see this we'll already be at 14 participants at which point we'd only need 4 more SD'ers and I'm positive we'll be able to bring in 6 "outsiders" to bring the total participants up to 24 (6 teams of 4).

Privately debating if we should have a month long season (Each team would have a schedule of matches) followed by playoffs instead of just a double elimination tourney. hmmmmmmmmmm. Thoughts?

I think that sounds like a really good idea. I actually upped to expedited shipping because I want the game next week, haha. But I think we should play for the next two weeks...take a week off for Christmas (I am sure it'll be hard to get something organized with people traveling) and start up again after New Years.

Didn't you do a sort of pre-season last year too? To get stats on people and make the teams a touch more fair? I realize I am going to be a 4th round draftpick for someone...I just want to set the expectations as such.

I think the scrimages were fine the last 2 years as a gage on if the teams were balanced or not. I personally enjoy the double elimination brackets, especially since we clawed our way back from the losers brackets to win in the BLOPS tourney. I'm open for something new though if the crowd wants to go that route. I do like the playoffs idea. Anyone can have a good night and be the underdog like in the Final Four.

Yeah I don't think participation is going to be an issue. Maybe you should throw the K/D chart into the wiki now and we can start populating it?

I've said though, that they need to make those 5 kids that got them in all this trouble pay for the entire team to go to the Rose Bowl. The decisions of 5 people ruined the season for 100+ kids...and their decisions made them go to the NFL and make thousands/millions. I feel sorry for the kids that are playing football. I do not feel sorry for the fans though :) :lol:

My scheduled is different every week. But the wifey usually understands. As with Tim, I will be out of town for part of the holidays - 1/6-1/13 unless he brings the xbox the weekend of the 13th lol.

I think most of us do worse with this game than mw3. I was horrible at the start of mw3 as well, and got marginally better after a bit. Difference is, by now I was better at mw3 (not that I was ever great) than I am right now at blops2. I thought I was doing better until last night lol

Met up with Blazey on XBL last night and he wants to join us again this year. Added him to the wiki.

If the MW3 tourney is any indication it's unlikely that we'll get 24 SD'ers. If we want to have 8 teams of 4 then we may need to have 2 SD players + 2 non-SD players per team.

How does everyone feel about that?

Other options....2v2 or 3x3 Tourny? Thoughts? If we have smaller teams I would vote against TDM on mid-large maps and make it so that it's objective based only (HQ, Hardpoint) or TDM can only be played on the smallest map (Hijacked). But I'm sure there are factors I'm missing here so please let everyone know what you think.

Also...when running a custom game I think EVERYTHING is unlocked right? Should we restrict that?

Roland - I just got the word that Thomas (DiabeticBaby) would like to join in again this time too. He played in the MW3 tourney. I'll add his name to the wiki, get his k/d info, and get you an email address where you can send him the doodle scheduling requests. He is a non-S/D'er.

I like the thought of a 3v3. I think 2v2 is too small..one person that plays more will just dominate. Might as well do a Loan Wolves tourney or something.

I like the 3v3 though to keep it more SD. I also think it would be fun to throw in some 3+3 v 3+3 matches. I don't know how you would do a tourney of that, but that would be a possible way to get a seeding.

We are only 5 people off from having 24 right now anyway. Although, I know we'll need dedicated subs as well, so that would require even more bodies. I think we should have at least 2 SD'ers on each team, but 1 or 2 other teammates is fine is that's what it boils down to.

I also would not mind the 3x3 format. MW3 had an actual mode for that (can't think of the name right now...dang old age!) and it was actually pretty fun. Carrier is another good map I think if we need smaller ones.

Hardpoint mode is pretty intense but a lot of fun! BLOPS 2 is supposed to have the option for multi-team deathmatch as well (up to 4 teams) but I haven't tried it out yet. We should nail down at least one other mode to mix it up some. We did some Domination in the MW3 tourney and some of those matches got pretty crazy (and frustrating)! lol

Agree about the 2x2 being too small. Better to go 3x3 or Lone Wolf. I like the multi-team option too, thought I don't know how we could factor that in.

At the moment I think we have enough to do a quick Free 4 All Tourny.

We can do two rounds (8 players in each round). Top 4 in each round advance to final round.

Top 3 in the final round gets repped by everyone who participated. lol

I'm not sure of my k/d off the top of my head but I can check later. I'd like to try and play in the non ffa tourney.

Was working on getting a K/D last night that was over inflated from playing in the noob playlists...then Skeeza comes along and pulls me into some Hardcore matches. 1) I forgot how funny I think it is when people are constantly whining about lag....and 2) so far I suck at snipers, but that was about it. I could cruse no problem at a 1.0 KD and middle of the pack in points. I felt like a valued contributor.

My farking cat tried to eat my chicken curry last night...I was trying to figure out a way to pause so I wouldn't respawn so I could go beat his ass but you can't...I just died like 10 times instead. :sadwalk:

I had fun gunning with you guys last night, even if only for a few matches. I have always LOATHED the Hardcore mode on other games because I think it breeds campers like mad and I have no patience waiting to respawn. Luckily, Austin got me to play it a bunch just this past week and once I got through my impatience level of actually pausing and using cover (NOT camping) instead of running around doing my normal "spray and pray" shooting tactic...I actually really started enjoying it and was doing well. Last night even helped me bump my k/d up some (and yes I updated the wiki!).

How can you NOT complain about lag? The compensation is awful and there are some matches where it waits until the match is essentially decided before it migrates hosts. It's awful.

I'm up for mixing it up a little bit this time around. I say go with the teams of 3.

Pros: Forces people to act as a better team.

Cons: One beast person can totally own a match regardless of his teammates.

I already have Austin & Thomas in as non-SD'ers. Are other people going to get friends or should I try for more? I figured my quota was reached. LOL

I'm not going ot have BO2 until Xmas, but I'd be willing to be a late-tourney sub once that happens.

We were hoping to figure out the GameCasting feature and use it for this tourney. I will get into it and play around with it this weekend. Maybe Roland, Skeeza and I can get job offers from MLG to be professional gamecasters for them! hehe (hey a guy can dream)

I lost interest in HC for MW3 and BO, but BO2 has renewed my interest in it.

This is the one HUGE downfall of smaller teams. I guess it would force us to really analyze the competition before creating teams to try and level out the playing field as much as possible.

No, I never got one. I saw me, you, Skeeza, kastzy, Entrop, and I think Brendo. I am trying to remember now, don't want to make outlandish accusations, haha. I have a friend I met through BF3 that would join up...I don't know him IRL so we can wait last second to ask him also.

I tell you what...I don't have the best KD in Kill Confirmed, but holy balls do I get a lot of points. I really think some of the people in there don't understand the concept of the game...that you win by getting tags. One game, I was the high scorer and went 14-19. I had like 25 kills claimed. :lol:

i was on after 10:45 until midnight ish working on my sniper game. just started out and not doing too bad but definitely having a rough go at learning good spots. the maps are so small that i get counter sniped by ARs all the time.

i noticed that i end up getting less than half of my kills with my svu because i switch to my skorp for cqc when im on the run or when someone is trying to flank me. ghost+silenced SVU is a pretty damn awesome combo though.

Same here except my preferred combo is SWAT and MSMC. I always get more kills while on the run in CQC with my MSMC.

I am a HUGE fan of the PDW as well. That's my "Speedy Gonzales" class like I made with the AK-74 in the first BLOPS....all guns and perks...no secondaries or grandes. I have to say I've been pretty beast with it here lately, especially on Hardcore.

A few. Granted, I cleaned up my friends list as I had a bunch of SD'ers on there that I only played with during the tournament, so I'm probably not seeing everyone.

There's always a few whenever I get on. Sorry we haven't been on much this week...holiday commitments are already starting.

How about a FFA scrimmage Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night? Just pick a night/time and whoever shows up this round is fine. Just an initial match or few to get the gang together and touch base with people. :)

I really do suck at this game though. I always get a decent score for the most part, but there were times last night I'd die before even getting a shot off, and do that for 5 straight minutes (5-20, or 4-15, some sort of trash like that). Then I'd just switch playlist and easily get top 3 in points.

I'm usually at the top of the list for kills but I also usually get pretty close to the same amount of deaths.

Roland - I have another friend who wants in on the tourney (one of my best friends...his son). His name is Ryne and he's pretty decent at all things shooter-related. Do you still have a spot open, or can you use him as a permanent sub if not? Thanks Amigo!

Depending on how drunk I get at my company holiday party tonight I'm not sure if I will be on by 9. We shall see.

Played with Buckeyewebguy, Skeeza and Curtie last night but had to jump off early.

Those of you with kids will understand what I mean when I say that my daughters molars are coming in. So yeah, I've been pretty sleep deprived lately. I had to jump off live because I could hear my wife caling me throgh the baby monitor to come help her. haha. Unfortunately, my wife is also suffering from a pretty severe cold so fun times abound.

yea, had fun last night. That is exactly why I got this game. I like everything about Battlefield way more but it doesn't have the people, and the people is what makes gaming fun :hug:

The thing I noticed the most is naming convention of places on the map. The most popular was for sure the "Two story". I don't know who started that one, but I actually knew exactly what they were talking about on the maps they kept saying it, haha.

Yeah the whole map naming thing is crucial and something most clans take time to do. I would hope every team does this sort of thing.

Certain maps or sections of a given map can be tricky though.

Map naming can be tricky, especially if there are MULTIPLE "Second Floors". LOL We were playing the Carrier map last night and I was cracking up (ex-navy guy here) about some guy who kept calling out the conn-tower as "the place where the captain sits in the boat"! Too funny!

The Bridge or Control Room is still good for the room they are in, but the entire stack/structure that comes up from the carrier is the conning (commonaly said "conn") tower.

That map seems to be the easiest to name...as the sides are pretty distinct. Buckeye...what would be on the other side? It is some sort of control room, what would be the practical / actual purpose of that room? I'd go with Conn Tower and Radar Room :)

I have actually just been calling that the "Data Center" or "Computer Room". This BLOPS clan did a nice job of assigning "call-outs" to all the major points on the map though. I might print these out and start using them. They called it "The Armory" but I don't remember there being weapons in there though. It is a Chinese aircraft carrier after all, so who knows?

Not pullin me down. I went 37-4 one match. I think I set my personal record for most kills without a death. In 4 matches I went from .94 to .99 I think.

I had 3 REALLY bad days of play in a row! Kept getting thrown in with some shawn-killing clans who apparently knew EXACTLY where on the map not to go past to NOT flip the spawn so they could just keep killing us. I hate that crap! Play the freakin' game instead of cheating it!

I did finish my BLOPS play on a good note. Finally had some friends online so we ran a 6-person team and cleaned house for a while. I stopped hogging the kill-cam for once, but I literally had 3 matches where I went 18-8, 19-9, 20-10....cracked me up!

Other than that I've actually been putting more time in on Borderlands 2 since I got that for Christmas. I've already got Zero up to Level 13 and am loving the game so far! Anyone else get any other Christmas games they are digging?

That place looks awesome but it's definitely NOT the place me and my boys went when we were out there. I can't remember the name of the other place but it wasn't very far from the strip. Maybe a 15 minute drive if memory serves. We shot some nice semi automatics at the palce we went to.

I really like Kill Confirmed. It gets rid of the sniper campers since it doesn't really matter if someone is perched somewhere off in the corner getting a good kill streak, if they never move anywhere to get the tags. Not that we would have campers in a small tourney like this though.

on that note..maybe we dont even need TDM when we can just have kill confirmed instead.

I think hardpoint is a pretty awesome game type, constant action and no respawn timer make it pretty fun.

And i played with you last night and you had some great rounds. That dude Heavy Metal was raping fools though. When he talked about going under the boat on hijacked I had no clue what he was talking about. There is a lower level on the boat? man, i'm still such a noob.

I didn't choose all captains based on skill (as you can see as I've made myself a captain).

Just make sure that your team is online at the right times and organizing any practice you may want to do with your team before matches.

Roland - Here's my feedback on game modes:

I would keep regular ol' TDM in. It's the most common mode of the game with all elements included (radar, killstreaks, etc). I am totally for adding KILL CONFIRMED as an alternate playable mode! This ups the anty on TDM by making the team work harder together to collect the tags for the points. I think it helps level the playing field if you have one beast player getting massive killstreaks, to the team who can cover, guard and coordinate with each other better. I also (for the first time ever) totally okay with doing HARDCORE as an alternate mode. Take away the radars and the other crap and make it all about the guns. I used to hate it, but I've come to love it.

Those are your basic modes and I always think it's okay to have a "wildcard" mode or two as well. So on that note I would vote for HARDPOINT (it's basically KING OF THE HILL where you capture and hold points on the map), and possibly DEMOLITION or DOMINIATION (I can already hear Skeeza moaning about this one!). Having 1 or 2 of these modes will give a not-so-good team a fighting chance if they excel at one, or throw in the "X-factor" into play just to mix things up. Who in our tourneys has NOT heard tons of moans and groans in the lobby before a match when someone picked one of these? LOL I think it goes to show who is a good overall player...not just the best runner-&-gunner.

I say absolutely not to SEARCH & DESTROY as well as HEADQUARTERS mode. The biggest reason is because of those huge rediculous spawn delays in between deaths during portions of the matches. For me, I'd rather both teams are in the match kicking bootay and taking names for the maximum amount of time possible.

As for multiple people who have had reservations about modes due to camping, they need to understand that we don't put up with camping on our tourneys, so that should not be a factor at all.

I'll take a looks at maps/killstreaks/etc here tonight and give some feedback on that tomorrow.

I would give up DEMOLITION for HARDPOINT for sure. I like it better because the capture points shift around as well, instead of just 2 standard bomb locations you need to blow up. Keeps a little variety in it.
