Argh, I hate this.

The practical-ist in me says that at $105, this is totally fine (can't remember if they tax CA), but the techie in me says "for $95 more I can get a Nexus 7!"

Damnit.

EDIT: Techie wins.

marmasatt 12-07-2012 03:10 AM

And this one works absolutely fine with CM7? I thought I remember reading these get bricked when you do the SD card thing? Is it a different image or gaps file as the regular nook or everything is still the same?

johnsonj 12-07-2012 05:55 AM

Don't know about cm7 , buy mine woks great with cm10. So good in fact that I bought 4.

tehsilly 12-07-2012 05:57 AM

holding out until i have confirmed some fantasy football playoff winnnings then im on the Nook HD or the Nexus 7 lolz!

Yes.

It was on the front page a few weeks ago for about the same price ($97 shipped)

sklar 12-07-2012 06:05 AM

Good cpu, 1gb ram, good screen, sd card expansion, no cameras. Great performer with cm10.

Unless you have a feature specific requirement, I'd get these instead of any other <$100 tablet. The nexus and other $200 tabs are going to be a bit faster, but at this price its a solid performer.

Yes it is a good price. People that have received Certified Pre-Owned products from Barnes and Noble from previous sales claim that the product is indistiguishable from a brand new one.... Original packaging, charger, etc. The only difference is a sticker on the box that says ceritified pre owned.

Plus, it comes with a 1 yr warranty, and all you have to do is drop it off at a Barnes and Nobles. No mailing!!

deald0 12-07-2012 06:09 AM

TU to the OP... After I missed the $59 ebay deal for Nook Color, I have been in the market to pick up a cheap Nook Color or Tablet. Thanks!

phil321 12-07-2012 06:11 AM

I got one last time. I came brand new with the small sticker on the box. So far so good.

SMMann 12-07-2012 06:11 AM

ccvid 12-07-2012 06:12 AM

I'd love to get this but my boys would like a camera on their tablet. Does anyone know of a comparable tablet for $100 or so with a camera?

sklar 12-07-2012 06:14 AM

Bringing this to everyones attention:

"What is your return policy?

1SaleADay.com does not accept returns. For defective merchandise, notify us by filling out the form on our Contact page within 21 days of delivery for an exchange. Please include your order number, the name of the product, the date of purchase, and the issue you are having with the item. If the defective item is out of stock, it can be returned for a full refund.

"

You'll be paying for the return shipping on this if its DOA or has some other problem, or the condition is poor.

xombie_eric 12-07-2012 06:16 AM

I picked up the 79$ refurb during black friday. Just rooted and flashed CM7 on it and it runs great.

I got one a couple of weeks ago when they had the same price. Shipping was a little slow (ground from florida) but besides the sticker it could have been new. I haven't had time to play with it yet, I think I'm just going to root and put on the google play store and amazon market (and sideload apps) rather than go CM10 - I mostly bought it as an ereader and the built in software is good enough for that.

srikp 12-07-2012 06:25 AM

Is there a step by step guide to root and load CM10 or put Google Play store on this one. I bought this when we had the offer from Staples about a year ago but haven't found any real value in having this one. No apps or games for kids to play and also book collection in Amazon is lot better (personal opinion).

fangtl 12-07-2012 06:26 AM

I bought this the last go around, the unit arrived in pristine condition. Currently running on a very stable CM10 if I may add.

eMMC, I didn't need (maybe want is the better word here) the nook's OE stuff.

Some of us got lucky when B&N had the CPO 8 Gig Tablet at $79 thru Ebay couple of weeks ago and they run out and we got the 16GB instead for same price. That was a nice surprise for some SDers.

Which CM10 version are you guys using on this ?

I assume this would be very comparable to the original Kindle Fire (non-HD). That goes for $159 new (special offers incldued), so for $99 + SH this seems like a good deal. If anyone feels differently I'd love to know before I pull the trigger on the Nook. Thanks.

Currently, it's the best tablet for under $100. I don't think you'll go wrong unless you're planning to use it primarily as a multimedia device. In which case, save up another $150 and buy the 32GB nexus. The fact that you can easily add 32GB of storage for under $20 is a big plus.

Xakep 12-07-2012 08:17 AM

The 8gb has less RAM (512MB vs 1GB in the 16gb) and might also be harder to root. The ram means it's not going to run CM10 as well.

i agree with kamakazii here. i got the walmart deal for my 3 year old son, along with the 2 year protection plan that covers accidental damage. having the protection makes it worth it for my purposes....

but don't get me wrong, this is an awesome deal. i was tempted to get it and return the walmart purchase.....

I don't think you guys are getting what the Certified Pre Owned status entails. If you receive a DOA product like a previous poster said, you can just take it to a Barnes and Noble bookstore. You don't have to deal with 1saleaday at all after you receive the Nook bc of the warranty attached.

That's why it's discounted. If you'd rather pay $50 for the ability to return, you can buy it anywhere else.

Here's what B&N says about CPO:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/c.../379003688

And if I remember correctly, on one of the previous Nook deals that 1saleaday had, someone asked their customer service about the CPO, and they confirmed that each tablet came with a 1-yr CPO from B&N.

Quick question: I see that the Nook has Netflix and Hulu Plus, but what about an app for Amazon Instant Video? I know I can probably watch through Amazon.com, but its always nice to have an app.

From what I understand, you'll have to root the device and then sideload the amazon instant app (that's what I'm planning on doing.) Or you can install a different rom (like CM10) which will be already rooted.

Yes, but that's extreme YMMV, because they ran out of 8GB. Can't use that to compare to his deal.

go to xda-developers.com and you'll be able to do anything with a custom rom. these tablets are not optimized out of the box but with a custom rom, it will fly.

Its similar to the original Fire, except the original Fire had 8gb, no microphone, and 512MB of ram. This actually compares pretty favorably with the 2012 kindle fire, as you can usually bump the omap cpu to 1.2GHz.

Its more of a late beta. Most things work fine, some people have problems with freezes and reboots but others don't. I suspect it'll be pretty solid in another month or so.

I don't think this is a deal!

Wow, that'd be true if you were comparing it to the same tablet, but thats the 8GB nook. Plus if you're in a state that charges tax and a recycling fee like I am, that'd be an extra $15-16 at walmart. This was tax free and recycling fee free for me.

So since the only time its been available for less was BF, and that was only by a few dollars, and in some instances those discounted prices were taxed or had a recycling fee...yes Dorothy, this is a deal. Providing these are in fact retail packed CPO B&N nooks and not some crap that 1saleaday came up with.

Next closest to this deal was the $129 BF kindle fire, the $129 BF Nabi 2 (which has better hardware, but its a colored plastic kids tablet) and the $149 refurb galaxy 2 that was kicking around a week or two ago. If you don't care about cameras, this is a solid do-everything tablet with a very nice screen, very good cpu and plenty of ram, plus removable storage.

Yes. Basically you bring it in to B&N and they'll probably just give you another one in the box. Now, whether they'll still be in business for a whole year is the good question...:shake:

Pair of nice red herrings you have there. The CPO nook sold was an 8GB, and they sent 16's out to some people when they ran out of 8GB units, and the cowboom deal was for a used grade 5/6 scratched up tablet with just the cowboom warranty, not a 1 year warranty like these have.

So unless you can engineer an inventory oversell or are willing to take a used tablet with scratches on it, this is about the cheapest these have sold for. I'm sure that 6-9 months from now you'll be able to buy them used with a half dead battery for $50-60.

immutableman 12-07-2012 01:43 PM

in for one. thanks!

Buckeyefan 1 12-07-2012 02:17 PM

Solid deal. You are getting an IPS screen with a fast processor and 1gb of ram. Someone with this device and a Nexus was saying he was having buyers remorse on the Nexus 7 because the Nook Tablet rooted ran so well. Rooting the device was sort of a pita, but I figured it out. There's just so much info on how to do it, that it's overwhelming. And knowing which mSD card to get was another bump in the road. Luckily the first ones I bought worked out.

I can vouch for B/N. I rooted two of the NC's last holiday, and haven't touched them in a year. Yet they got used every day. The Amazon App Store is awesome for a free paid app of the day. Never had to load the Google Play store, and never paid for an app. I read the tech news daily on msnbc app. Great tablet to read the news on. Also got addicted like heroin to LB2, Jewels and Stupid Zombies 1/2.

After a year, the battery is only lasting about an hour. There's video on youtube on changing them. They run around $28, so it's not cheap. Not sure I'd put $28 towards a NC battery - would probably just upgrade.

The only reason I'd recommend a Nexus 16 or 32 over the Nook Tablet would be not ever having to worry about upgrading the OS. You'll always have a working camera, mic, and the updates will work automatically. Yes, it's double the price, but it's a care free device. If you don't mind rooting, the Tablet is a great, great device. Stock - I'd pass.

Does anyone have links or instructions to get the stock NT rooted, CWM'd and CM10 on the eMMC? Do you upgrade to the latest B&N firmware first?

Also, would Squaretrade be a good option to extend the warranty?

My $80 nook tablet from B&N through eBay and my $90 nook tablet from CowBoom, both without scratches or defects, would beg to differ. And I disagree - prices for this has gone down - a simple search for Nook tablet on SD would show this. What's more, in the 6-9 months range, I wouldn't be surprised if refurbished Nook HD's start coming into the market at decent prices.

If its been less than a year, its still under warranty. Take it into B&N and get another one!

I usually have a "no orders over $100 from 1saleaday" policy. Don't ask me why, I've bought tons of stuff from them and never been burned once. I've just heard.. stories is all. And even still I could not resist this deal. :(

For those interested and not that tech savy, I used the site below, for $10 he provides the image and instructions on how to create a dual boot SD card. Good support as well if you get stuck. I got close on making the card myself with material I found on the net, but could not figure out how to set it up for a 32GB card where I can still make use of the remaining space. For $10 it was a no brainer after wasting 2 hours on trying to get the card set up on my own. Using on both tablets we got for our children and it is addictive. The battery may need to be swapped by the time we get to christmas.

Half the fun of dealing with an Android device is trying to figure out how to root, test a rom and customization. I wouldn't call a waste of time.

And tell them what, the battery only lasts an hour? Batteries wear down. Have you done it? Plus it was bought 11-25-2011.

Stryder5 12-08-2012 06:14 AM

Aww deal is over?

Tell them the unit has a battery that wont hold a charge. Thats a defect under warranty. They should replace it.

Nope, never done it. Hope not to have to.

I couldn't agree more but for those not technical, I can see the $10 option as a good way of not spending hours reading forums and trying to figure out why something isn't working properly.

anyone received email confirmation of their order yet ? Place my order yesterday at 8am, and still no email from them. also, i read several reviews about the battery life. IF the same problem happens on my nook tablet, what is the process to return/exchange for a replacement at B&N ? Are they strict with exchanges ?

I bought a CPO nook color from groupon. Speakers blew out, took it into BN and they said I couldn't swap it in stores and had to call BN customer service. I gave a deposit, they sent a new one, refunded me when they received my broken nook. YMMV

Thanks for the info, $10 is worth it to me for the two I have. I did the CM10 on our Touchpad, but don't want to go through it again on two more right now.

The invoice email I received last Friday said the order would ship in 7-10 business days. 7 business days is Dec. 18th and 10 days is Dec. 21. LONG time to wait, but I'm sure it will ship next week, if not sooner.

Good business would be to only charge once the product ships, but based on earlier comments here and on their website customer service is not a high priority.

sklar 12-12-2012 09:26 AM

The way these outfits work is to get a contracted price per volume, take orders, make sure they can charge the payments, then tell whoever is holding the merchandise how many they want and where they want them shipped. A lot of the time its all handled by a 3rd party and all these guys are is the sales outlet.

I'd expect to get these before xmas, but I wouldn't be surprised to get between xmas and new year.

TwinEffect 12-18-2012 07:26 PM

I bought two, and they are only 8gb version, antone else have this issue?

You'll be paying for the return shipping on this if its DOA or has some other problem, or the condition is poor.

Or just walk into a Branes & Noble store and ask them for assistance, just saying.......

Does not work with a CPO nook you didn't buy from B&N. You must call the 800# and process a return through their customer service outfit. For nooks you bought at b&n, you can indeed walk into the store.

nb1001 12-23-2012 09:14 AM

I bought this when it was on sale on ebay.

Here's the link http://slickdeals.net/f/5695682-B...aily-Deal? THERE IS A LOT OF GOOD INFO IN THIS THREAD!!!

I have cm10 on it right now and it's running great. A little buggy though (boot times slow and wake up is a little sluggish and battery is so-so) overall though it works well.

I'm happy with it. Realize main diff from nexus 7 is stability, battery life, no gps, no camera, and difficult future upgrades.
