17. What is the best way to cash out the Rewards?
18. Does the purchase of an item with an 100% back in rewards or a fixed value rewards offer count toward the purchase requirement for the ink/toner recycling program?
19. The terms and conditions of the MaxPerks Rewards for Business program appear to have a $500 purchase requirement before rewards payout? Do I have to purchase $500 worth of items at OfficeMax before MaxPerks pays out the bonus rewards?

01. Is membership in a MaxPerks Rewards program required to take advantage of these bonus offers?

Yes, membership is required. To join fill out an application in-store or online at www.officemaxperks.com [officemaxperks.com].

02. What are MaxPerks Rewards and what can MaxPerks Rewards purchase?

MaxPerks Rewards are effectively OfficeMax store credit with an expiration date. MaxPerks Rewards can be used to purchase most items in-store, online and by phone except they "are not redeemable for gift cards, general use pre-paid cards, phone cards and are not redeemable for cash unless otherwise required by law."**

03. Can only businesses and teachers join the MaxPerks Rewards programs?

Anyone who meets the following requirements can join: "MaxPerks is open to legal residents of the 50 United States (and D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) age eighteen (18) years and older who have internet access to manage their MaxPerks account."**

Teachers may sign-up for the MaxPerks Rewards for Teachers program. The main advantage of the Teachers rewards program is the higher standard rewards payout ($10 for every $75 in qualified purchases for Teachers versus $25 for every $500 in qualified purchases for Business). The main disadvantage of the Teachers rewards program is that the rewards are paid out quarterly.

Everyone else should sign-up for the MaxPerks Rewards for Business program. Where the business application requests "Business Name" enter first and last name.

04. If a bonus rewards item is paid for with rewards will the bonus rewards still be awarded? In other words, do rewards "roll"?

Yes, to date, with one exception.

Paying for percentage back in bonus rewards (e.g. 100% back in rewards on a specific item), $0.01 after bonus rewards and fixed value (buy X, get $Y in rewards) bonus rewards offers with rewards have earned rewards so at least for those three types of bonus rewards offers, MaxPerks rewards have "rolled".

The one type of bonus rewards offer that does not roll is "Get X% Back in MaxPerks Rewards on most everything". The offers' terms noted the exception:

"*20% MaxPerks Bonus Rewards offer valid in-store from June 20, 2010 thru June 26, 2010. Saving pass, phone promo code or online promo code and member's MaxPerks ID card must be presented at time of purchase. No Bonus Reward adjustments will be made after purchase. Not valid on computers, gift cards, general use prepaid cards, phone cards, purchases with a Retail ConnectSM card, sales tax, OfficeMax private label ink, toner and ink refills, Sprint® monthly price plans and purchases made prior to enrollment and purchases with a MaxPerks Reward Card."

Note: Some MaxPerks customer service representatives are under the erroneous impression that rewards do not roll. This can be a problem if the system does not automatically award the rewards.

05. Does using coupons impact the rewards payout?

It depends on the type of bonus rewards offer:

---- if it's a percentage back bonus rewards offer, then using a coupon will reduce the rewards payout to the extent the coupon is applied to the item at the offers percentage rate (ie. coupon amount applied to item multiplied by the percentage rate of the offer). Dollar off coupons are still useful in reducing the initial outlay, the eventual rewards payout, and the amount of sales tax paid if applicable.
---- if it's a net $0.01 after bonus rewards offer, then using a coupon will reduce the rewards payout to the extent the coupon is applied to the item. Dollar off coupons are still useful in reducing the initial outlay, the eventual rewards payout, and the amount of sales tax paid if applicable.
---- if it's a fixed value (buy X get $Y in rewards) bonus rewards offer, then using a coupon has not impacted the rewards payout regardless of the change in wording in the Bonus Rewards issued sentence from "percentage-based Bonus Reward" offers to "Bonus Rewards" offers.

For both in-store purchases and online orders (and presumably phone orders), coupons are pro-rated to all items in the purchase/order.

Note: Some MaxPerks customer service representatives are under the erroneous impression that coupons reduce rewards payout regardless of what type of rewards offer. This can be a problem if the system does not automatically award the rewards.

06. Any other payment concerns?

Cash, credit cards, gift cards and merchandise : Earn both bonus rewards (100% back offers, $0.01 after rewards, buy X get $Y in rewards offers) and standard rewards (business: $25 for every $500, teacher: $10 for every $75)

Rewards cards: Earn bonus rewards (100% back offers, $0.01 after rewards, buy X get $Y in rewards offers) but NOT standard rewards (business: $25 for every $500, teacher: $10 for every $75)

07. How many rewards card can be used on a single purchase?

In-store and phone: According to the program's terms, up to three Rewards Cards can be used on a single transaction for in-store and phone purchases. The last time I tried using more than three Rewards cards on a single transaction in-store -- admittedly this past June -- the cash register did not prevent using more than three.

Online: The limit is one rewards card (or gift card) per transaction.

08. What timezone does OfficeMax.com use to date purchases?

Central. All purchases through OfficeMax.com are dated according to Central time.

09. What "date" does the MaxPerks Rewards site use as the date of record for online transactions?

The MaxPerks Rewards site generally uses the date the item ships as the date of record (the "Transaction Date") for an online order. If this date falls outside the offer period it is possible that the system will not automatically credit the reward. If the reward is not automatically credited, contact MaxPerks Rewards customer service to have the reward credited.

10. The offer is not advertised in my region. Is the offer valid in my region?

This appears to be YMMV. Some have reported that non-advertised bonus rewards offers worked for them while others have reported that they have not. My experience is that bonus rewards offers are not valid outside of the targeted region(s).

11. The item's online price does not match the item's price in the advertisement. Will the rewards payout be the advertised price or the purchase price?

Some offers have a "maximum reward amount" attached but to date it does not appear that the maximum award amount is being enforced.

Otherwise, for 100% back in rewards offers the rewards payout has been the purchase price regardless of whether the purchase price is less than or greater than the advertised price.

12. If an item paid for with rewards is returned, how will the refund be paid out?

Refunds for items paid for with rewards should be refunded via a merchandise cards. Merchandise cards do not have an expiration date.

13. When will the rewards be noted on the rewards account?

Please note that the transaction might update in stages.

For an in-store purchase, the transaction information for the purchase should update within several days of purchase. The rewards for the transaction might not update for several days after that.

For an online purchase, the transaction information for the purchase should update within several days of the order's shipment. The rewards for the transaction might not update for several days after that. If the purchase is shipped in several shipments, the transaction and rewards will be updated individually for each shipment.

14. How and when will the rewards / bonus rewards be paid out?

Rewards are paid out via a rewards card (unlimited use until funds exhausted) that can be printed from the MaxPerk's rewards site.

For Business program members, rewards are paid out monthly and are generally paid out in the middle to latter half of the month in the month after the transaction. So, the bonus rewards for the purchase of a bonus rewards item in July will generally be paid out in August.

For Teacher program members, rewards are paid out quarterly and are generally paid out in the middle to latter half of the month in the month following the end of the quarter. So, the bonus rewards for the purchase of a bonus rewards items in July thru September will be paid out in October.

If the rewards will be paid out at a different time it will be noted in the offer's terms.

15. Do rewards expire?

Yes. Rewards expire the last day of the month 3 months following the month in which they are made available on the MaxPerks rewards website. The expiration date is not determined by accessing the online rewards account or printing the rewards certificates.

16. Can rewards be used to purchase gift cards?

No. Effective July 28, 2011, MaxPerks rewards certificates can no longer be used to purchase third party gift and third pary prepaid cards. It has been reported that the cash registers are no longer allowing such a sale.

"Reward Cards are not redeemable for gift cards, general use pre-paid cards, phone cards and are not redeemable for cash unless otherwise required by law."**

"Effective July 28, 2011, Reward Cards are no longer redeemable for purchases of any gift cards OfficeMax sells, including third party gift cards (i.e. restaurant, music, travel, or entertainment gift cards, other merchants’ gift cards, etc.), general use pre-paid cards (i.e. Visa® gift cards, MasterCard® gift cards, and American Express® gift cards), phone cards, or for OfficeMax brand gift cards."**

17. What is the best way to cash out the Rewards?

Unlike Office Depot and Staples, OfficeMax does not offer free after rebate items which leaves purchasing items that are needed or that can be flipped.

18. Does the purchase of a bonus rewards item count toward the purchase requirement for the ink/toner recycling program?

Yes, as long as the purchase is otherwise a qualifying purchase, the purchase of a bonus rewards item does count toward the purchase requirement for the ink/toner recycling program at the item's purchase price net of coupons, rewards (paid on the purchase not received because of the purchase), sales tax and shipping.

Qualifying Purchase

Qualifying purchases are any products or services in our stores, catalogs or web site except for computers, tablets, eReaders, gift cards, general use pre-paid cards, phone cards, Sprint® service plans, sales tax, purchases with a Retail ConnectSM card, purchases made prior to the date of enrollment, and purchases made with your MaxPerks rewards. You will start earning credit for purchases made with your MaxPerks member ID the day you sign up.**

Example:

100% back in bonus rewards on a widget priced at $60.00. Purchase paid for with a $10 off coupon, $20 in rewards and the remainder ($30 net of sales tax) on a credit card.

This purchase will earn $50 in bonus rewards ($60 - $10 coupon) and will count as $30 ($60 - $10 coupon - $20 rewards) toward the recycling program's purchase requirement.

19. The terms and conditions of the MaxPerks Rewards for Business program appear to have a $500 purchase requirement before rewards payout? Do I have to purchase $500 worth of items at OfficeMax before MaxPerks pays out the bonus rewards?

No, the $500 purchase requirement does not apply to bonus rewards.

The OfficeMax MaxPerks rewards programs have two types of rewards: standard and bonus.

The standard reward for the business program members is $25 for every $500 in qualified purchases. The standard reward for the teacher program members is $10 for every $75 in qualified purchases).

Bonus rewards are special deals offered throughout the year. The bonus reward payouts are not linked in any way to standard rewards payouts. See the following from the program's terms and conditions [officemaxperks.com]

How To Earn Rewards

From time to time, OfficeMax may also offer its members MaxPerks Bonus Reward opportunities in which members can earn extra rewards (which may vary in amount) for purchasing specified products or completing a required action. To take advantage of the MaxPerks Bonus Rewards special purchase offers, you must have your MaxPerks member ID number at the time of purchase and it must be applied to that purchase. From time to time, these types of offers will also require a coupon code, in addition to your member ID to qualify for the Bonus Reward. No MaxPerks Bonus Reward adjustments will be made after purchase. MaxPerks Bonus Rewards will be issued in the next statement cycle regardless of your qualified purchase balance, unless another timeframe is noted for that specific offer.[/b]**

Seriously. They didn't have free after rewards stuff for quite a few weeks, and then they come back with free batteries. Hope something good appears before end of year.

OK, first time getting into this MaxPerks business.

So I can buy AA and AAA batteries and get points equal to my purchase, which I can use on anything else in the store (exceptions in FAQ duly noted). Correct? How did I not get in on this sooner?

Are there any limits? Can I buy multiple batteries and paper or am I limited to one of each?

TIA

Also, new money spent on qualifying items "unlocks" your recycled ink carts. You are allowed to recycle 10 carts/month.

Each Maxperks promotion has quantity stipulations; in this case, you can buy 2 batteries (total) and 2 cases of paper.

ETA: Since you are JUST starting (from Maxperks T&Cs)
Expiration of Balances and Rewards

You earn credit during each calendar year, from January 1 through December 31. If you do not reach the minimum $500 spending requirement by December 31, your account balance will be reset to $0 on January 1 of the following year. Accounts with a balance of over $500 are eligible for a $25 Reward Card for each $500 spent by the end of each month. Remaining account balances less than $500 after issuance of a Reward Card during the year will also reset to $0 at the end of the year. MaxPerks Bonus Rewards will be issued in the next statement cycle regardless of your qualified purchase balance. For new customers who sign up for the program after October 1 of any given year, for your first year of participation only, your balance will not be reset to $0 on December 31; the balance will be carried over to the next calendar year.

I would only spend $20 OOP as you 2012 year comes to a close.

Thanks and repped.

What do you get in exchange for recycling cartridges?

Also, why only spend $20 OOP at year end? Do you mean for tax purposes are is there some kink in the program that makes it less desirable to get rewards points at the end of the year?

I just edited my post with the exception for late enrollers.

Ink recycling is the name of the game for the office supply stores: OM, OD, and Staples. For OM and OD, you will receive $2/ink cart (max of $20/month). As stated in my previous post, you will need qualifying purchases to release your recycled ink carts.

I made mention of the OOP for year-end because most gamers who enroll prior to October in any given year would need to have their qualified purchases equal to their un-released recycled ink carts, as on January 1, their balance resets to $0.

Did you download the dance at the end?

Goto
Code:

www.elfyourself.com
Do the dance.

Download the dance.

Enter clean email address. I used an OfficeMax known address the first time and that was successful, clean address each additional time. I always click and unclick the confirmation screen but I do not believe that is necessary.

X out the payment screen popup -- they want $1 for the download -- and then click OK. I do not know if this is necessary either.

Only other suggestion is a different browser or a clean browser. I forget that the browser I use for these sorts of things clears everything on close.

quick question...do you have to use your rewards all at once? I have $100 in rewards, and I want to buy the paper. If I only use $40, will I lose the other $60? Or will they generate a new certificate for me for the $60?

Awesome, gotta use up some of these GC's from the ebay daily deals. Tried to purchase an amazon GC today with them but that was a no-go.

Purchases paid with gift cards qualify for both standard and bonus rewards.

Purchases paid with rewards certificates only qualify for bonus rewards.

It's like Groundhog Day with the batteries. But it's better than nothing like most of November.

I recycled 5 cartridges last week but 10 are showing in my Maxperks dashboard. :bounce:

Here is a slightly off topic question but has to do with Maxperks. For Black Friday I bought an external hard drive online with my Maxperks rewards. It was delivered 10 days ago. But in my Maxperks dashboard my Maxperks credit has not been deducted to reflect the purchase. The backup credit card was not charged either. Is Maxperks just slow or did Officemax just give me a free gift?

Your MaxPerks certificate has been charged. As you have found out, the rewards certificate remaining balance on the rewards site is not kept in any semblance of real time.

To view the remaining balance on your rewards certificate, goto officemax.com >> View Cart >> Check your gift card balance.

Duracell Manufacturer's Coupon

Has anyone had luck using the $4/2 manufacturer coupon on Duracell batteries. While the store agreed the coupon matched the batteries, they advised the register wouldn't take it. They ended up changing the price on batteries, which of course affects my rewards.

Anyone have the register cashier take it, apply as manufacturer where it didn't affect rewards? Thank all!

I tried the $.75 coupon from Duracell and the $5 off $25 survey coupon. They did take those amounts off from my purchase, but the register wouldn't ring either one. I was docked in my rewards, which somehow also came out to $2.42 less than I really paid (not including tax). It says I had $2.42 in qualified purchases. Not sure how that happened, but I won't be using coupons with a $.01 after rewards deal anymore.

You might consider those sites as sources for empty ink cartridges to purchases to recycle. At least that is what I hear on the street.

Does this mean that if I took advantage of this before 12/9 I can do it again after 12/9? So I can get two more packs of batteries and two more cases of paper?

What are the terms?

I received this offer last year or maybe the year before and I did not take the chance that rewards would not roll.

Maybe I can find the thread from last year ....

Is the 50 rewards on $50 purchase a targeted offer, or is it good for anybody?

Could I purchase a $60 toner, get $50 back in rewards, and then after those post next month, buy another $60 cartridge at an effective price of $10 after using the rewards?

I know the emails are targeted.

I do not know if you use someone else's coupon code whether the rewards will be rewarded to you.

Anyone have any issues with the online elf codes? I used one last week and just got a new elf email to a different email address. However when I checkout it says the code has already been reedeemed. I went back and looked the prior online code and the new code are different, I am using the same max id for both purchases.

Logout and put the item you want in your cart and hit checkout. Before logging in there should be an area to enter the code. Put it in then click log in with all your information. It does not allow you to redeem the elf coupons more than once on your account. That's what I had to do.

I believe the elf yourself codes are limit one per account. Trying to use a second code will bring up the already redeemed message.

There is a work-around noted in the elf yourself thread. link to thread

I had the same problem... the cashier had no problem accepting it, but she could not find a way to input Manufacturer's Q so she ended up changing the price manually too and of course that cut into the rewards.

So it does nothing other than to save you maybe 40 cents of tax.

I used up my rewards to the max and I got the order delivered two weeks ago.
but my OM account still shows the rewards points are available in my account and will expire on 12/31.

Any thoughts on how long it usually takes for the rewards used up to be taken out of your online account?

I do not know whether there is any fixed schedule to the updating of the rewards certificate balances.

I do know that the correct balance can be found from the "Check your gift card balance" option located in the cart at OfficeMax.com.

I purchased a case of paper and 2 of the battery packs on one order with a 10 off 75 coupon and the second case of paper on another order with a 10 off 40 coupon. Both orders were in store and both orders show on my max perks account. Strange thing is that only the order for the single case of paper shows rewards earned and it is for only 3.72 or some strange small amount like that. Anyone else seeing anything similar on their account?

Thanks for the info. I just checked and it is a bonus reward of $3.19. The qualified amount shows 15.93 since I paid for part of the order with rewards and part with a prepaid debit card I had. I've seen this happen a couple times in the past where the reward amount is off one day but is updated to the correct amount within a day or two after that. This time it has been longer than normal so I was just checking to see if anyone else was seeing the same thing on their account. Based on the fact that you aren't seeing yours yet either, I'm thinking they still need to run their rewards batch to calculate the actual rewards.

Something just clicked when I reread that. I remember the guy checking me out saying I would get 20% back in rewards with my purchases after I had finished checking out. I blew that off since I knew these were fixed dollar amount max perks rewards offers. Well, I'm wondering if he scanned a 20% off coupon or something since that 3.19 would be 20% of the 15.93 qualified amount. Oh well, if it doesn't correct itself I'll just return it.

niceperson77 12-13-2012 01:01 AM

i bought 2 packs of batteries and its showing $6.80 bonus reward....not sure if the guy scanned the 20% coupon

Doeymeister 12-13-2012 08:28 AM

Is anybody else getting the $10 off any $10 purchase CRT when they check out this week? I've gotten it with both of my transactions, so I'm wondering if it's printing for all transactions. I may have to stop by and buy a candy bar a few times if it's printing every time.

The 20% was not supposed to be valid on the batteries. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will stack!

My bonus rewards for the batteries are not showing yet and all of mine are "qualified" purchases as I was out of rewards to spend, so they haven't updated the bonus rewards for the penny batteries yet.

Rewards are posted for the November spending. If everyone is getting $10/$10's for every transaction I think I need to get a milky way bar!

Thanks bpvh,

That worked perfectly.

I wonder who Officemax hires, because it reminds me of the last years of CompUSA where anyone I would encounter didn't know what they were doing. Today I bought more batteries and the cashier was telling me emphatically it has always been the policy of Officemax that rewards don't roll. And I told him, he has no idea what he is talking about and all my rewards have been rolled over atleast twice and just got more rolled rewards from November.

Maybe that is what he was told.

I'm amazed OM employees don't seem to be taking advantage of their own program. I have heard so many times the last few weeks that if I use a coupon I won't get rewards or if I use rewards I won't get rewards. One person I chalk up to just hating me buying anything with rewards and his credibility was shot when the cashier next to him told me not to worry........ I would get my rewards even if I used rewards.

I'm not sure why he even tries to torpedo me. I'm going to see he is wrong next time I do indeed get my rewards, so why hassle me? But he continues to do it. I'm filling out as many surveys as I can every time he rings me up.

Good point. Hadn't thought of that. I ended up not wanting to risk the full value rewards so I just got back from doing a return/rebuy. The cashier did point out that my receipt showed that the original cashier had in fact scanned the 20% back in max perks coupon. It was just the coupon number with a .01 value that I hadn't noticed before.

I'm not getting any 10/10 in St. Louis for transactions. The best I have received is $5 off $25 for completing a survey. Each survey for each receipt has printed a unique coupon.

There is so much confusion at OM which is unsettling. I have no doubt the cashier was told by a higher up who also doesn't know the policy. He was trying to be helpful from the information he was told.

Before buying batteries for 3 consecutive weeks I hardly ever stepped foot in an OM. I live in Florida and for the last 2 weeks went to the Deerfield OM and they didn't say there was a problem with rolling. But one cashier had a horrible attitude and she was loudly sneering at me for having to input the Maxperks code manually because the UPC on the printout wasn't working. Today I went to the OM in Coral Springs and my previous post was about my purchase today.

Hey have anyone purchased batteries from the previous week (12/01) and this week (12/09)?

My purchases appear to be reflected in my maxperks account, but the Bonus Reward only shows for week of (12/01), purchased on the 5th, but not the week of (12/09), purchased on the 13th.

12/01 Purchase $33.98 $0.00 $33.96 Bonus Reward
12/09 Purchase $33.98 $0.00 (blank line)

Is anyone experiencing this as well? Or is there a delay time after the purchase is posted to maxperk to reward the bonus reward?

Thanks for your help!

Rewards generally post within a couple days of the POST DATE.

Unless there was a communication issue with the store (what was the post date?), most in-store purchases fully update within five days or less.
