Depends on your application but the 41 is bigger, has larger bin capacity, is heavier, and slightly more powerful than the 40.
The 41 is also more of a "normal" vacuum in that it doesn't have the dyson ball technology. What that translates to I don't really know.

To me, the extra weight and size is not worth the increase in bin capacity and power. So I got the DC40.

I was on the fence too but decided on the DC40 since it's new and with the 20% additional off it's a no brainer. Also, just add to cart > apply promo = 20% discount = $295 with free shipping/no Tax in CA. Thanks OP!
