Nexus 7 32GB at Staples for $234 after coupon code (free shipping, before tax, online only)

1 Attachment(s)
Staples has the Google Nexus 7 32GB [staples.com] for $234 before tax with free shipping after applying coupon code 18935 ($15 off $150 good through tomorrow for online orders only).

The coupon says it excludes desktops and laptops, but I have tried it for the Nexus 7 and I believe it will work (I was able to get as far as the final checkout and the discount was applied, but I have already ordered from buydig so I didn't complete the order).

Credit should go to daman22 who noticed the coupon working when asking about any deals for the Nexus 7:

http://slickdeals.net/f/5660338-any-Nexus-7-tablets-deals-current-upcoming

Oh yeah, don't forget the additional Discover 5% [discover.com] cash which will bring it down to around $222 before tax.

Some Discover cards earn 5% cashback this quarter for online shopping.

Some? Is it not all? I was planning on applying, since it's confirmed they'll do this again next year...but now I'll need to verify that the cash back bonus cards do work (cash upon spending $x).

Also, I know this particular units has been down to the $219 range, IIRC. That's still a big enough difference for me to hold out, I think. Right? Someone tell me I'm right.

daman22 12-08-2012 12:44 AM

im hoping it I catch a deal before x-mas as well.

Correct, but the $23.40 cashback that was mentioned would be 10%, not 5%.

Is there a standard 5% PLUS the 5% for this quarter? If that's the case, ShopDiscover offers 10% for Sears, and if you head over to FW there is a 8% Sears CB offer that I *THINK* will stack.

ETA: Ok, disregard. After looking into it a little more it does not appear that the CB will stack... it's either one or the other. :(

sell your bestbuy giftcard to plastic jungle online and they will give you cash for it into your paypal account within a few minutes.

They pay the highest of anyone and the quickest. No need to mail it in.

16GB Version...

There's no way they're going to offer any sales/discounts on the 16gb anytime soon, especially before Xmas. They probably don't make a big profit margin on these... the 32 gb version probably costs them about $2 more to make than the 16gb version, so there's more wiggle room.

In fact, I dare you to find a place you can buy the 16gb version for under $210 total (factoring in either shipping or tax). Online, you're probably looking at more like $230 total (they're pricing them over $200).

I kept putting off buying a 16gb version for a month, thinking I'd find one for $200 total... it's nearly impossible to find the 16gb version online and ship-able for a decent price.

I finally broke down and went to Staples store and bought one... $217 after tax.

The 16gb version is like hunting a wild wildabeast. They are rare... people have stopped stocking them. If you want one, I suggest you go to Staples today - btw, call ahead b/c their online inventory wasn't correct.

:lmao:

suedan217 12-08-2012 08:10 AM

I just purchased one of these. It is my first tablet purchase and my first Android based product. I have read reviews and I hope I like it. Got the 32gb for 200.00 due to using a family member's discount. It was either this or the ipad mini. I hope that I am happy with my purchase.

Seriously, I'm thinking ebay if you want to save a few bucks and buy the 16gb version... otherwise you might as well get the 32gb. You can get a new 16gb on ebay for $225 shipped... only seven bucks more than what I paid, and I'm sure I wasted that much in gas money and time. I really think they will discontinue the 16gb version like they did with the 8 gb version... so hop on ebay if you want to save $20-$30 and don't care about the extra hard drive space.

I really am opening a challenge up to anyone if they can find a 16gb version online from a regular (not ebay) seller... it's nearly impossible. No one sells it online anymore... anywhere... and the few rogue places that do, charge more than for a 32gb version!

Take the pepsi challenge... someone.... prove me wrong... there is a cookie in it for you...

Genuine question: What is the appeal behind owning an android tablet over an ipad? I own an android phone and from what I read the there are little tablet apps on the market: only super-ized phone apps. I only see a price difference....

Thanks

For me, just preference of the different apps on google play versus ipad's. To me, it seems like there's more free apps on android. Android seems a little more customizable/hackable too.

But yes, it's really just a bigger glorified phone without the phone ability. But if you go to bobsled.com you can make free internet calls anyway. FYI.

My mom doesn't have a smart phone, so this will be really new and exciting for her... but for everyone who owns phones, it's just a big glorified phone that is easier to read.

She works at Walmart. And worked the night of Thanksgiving. So they gave her discount of 20% off total purchase. Bought four 4th generation ipads and this Nexus.

i believe its a 14 day return policy for this type of product.. you might have luck telling them its going to be a gift at christmas and they might allow u to return it 14 days after christmas. no restock fee. bro in law bought a 16gig at walmart he told them it was a christmas gift and they told him he had 14-15 days till after christmas.

Yes you can return to the store, and no restocking fee if opened. 14 day return policy for a full refund if you have all the original packaging and it is in "salable" condition. I just returned an Amazon Paperwhite after 13 days and it was a piece of cake! I think they are pretty lenient on what "salable" means, but mine was still brand new.

zcdb 12-08-2012 09:03 AM

glad I am jumped in the ebay $239 for table plus case and antiglare cover bundle deal. no tax, no shipping fee. so far I love this toy and hasn't find any issues, no glass separation, no backlight bleeding.

seems like very hard to beat that price now.

I got 32gb version at OD couple of weeks ago $249 with coupon(error) of $35 for $214.99 minus discover 10% cashback plus 7% tax = $208.xx. Wondering if there is a big different between 32gb and 16gb. I can get at staples 16gb version for $199 - $25cpn = $175 - discover 5% cashback plus tax = $177.xx. Savings of $31. I want to use it for myself or my 6th grader son. Should I keep 32gb or go for 16gb?!!

Plus, with this tablet (as opposed to iPads), you're not stuck with a limited amount of storage space. You can plug in an OTG cable and USB flash drive into the Nexus 7 and play movies/music from the USB drive.

Thanks

I have owned and used iOS phone+tablet and Android phone+tablet. Nexus 7 is a really nice product and an unbeatable price. I really love the iPad mini, physically... but it's tough to justify the low-resolution now that I'm used to ipad3. And the extra $130 over Nexus 7 is hard to accept.

I tell people that the best thing about Android over iOS is that Android will pretty much let you do whatever you want..... and the worst thing about Android is that it will pretty much let you do whatever you want.

Android is best if you are really into Google services (gmail, google map, navigation, talk, etc).

iOS tends to just work. iOS is usually just smoother and more responsive, probably since it doesn't really allow apps to run in background. But iOS 6 seems to have taken a step backward in stability. I found my iPad3 is not as responsive, and some apps (eg. AppStore) are now more prone to crash.

I found that I had to baby-sit Android devices a lot more, as far as battery usage. If I am not careful, some apps or settings will cause battery to drain much faster. It's been like that ever since I started using Android devices 2+ years ago. While some things are fixed, new updates expose other issues. I just got JellyBean, and some process will end up keeping the phone awake the whole time.

There are enough tablet sized apps for Android. With Android, the developers write one version of the app that'll work on any screen size, ideally. It's true that many Android apps simply scales everything up to fit the screen instead of optimizing for the larger screen size. With iOS, if they dont have a tablet-sized app, you can still use the phone-size app, but it'll look small on a tablet, unless you click the "2x" button to enlarge it.

While it used to that iOS will get the apps first, then Android eventually get it later (eg. Netflix), it's getting much better on the Android that I'm surprised when a product has iOS companion app but no Android app.

Ouch... I can almost guarantee the 32GB model will be under $215 shipped by someone online by Christmas. Patience. Like the poster below, you have to know how to stack, shop, find coupons, and maximize cash back. Brand new iPad 3's were had for $330 after tax last month with the right stacking, plus cash back from a cc. You put it perfectly - you "broke down" and bought one. I've never broken down to buy anything. It's the retailer who will break down and sell me something at or below their cost. Again - it's all about patience.

Personally, I would keep the 32GB. $31 for extra 16GB (built-in) storage is cheap when compared to retail tablet prices. Also, the 32GB model is newer than the 16GB model, so in theory should be newer production run, and have less issues that people reported with early Nexus 7 production runs.

Myself the 16gb has plenty of memory and the extra 16gb for $31 is a bad deal.

I have an 8gb Nexus 7 and don't have any real issue with memory. Just can't install too many big Tegra 3 based games at once. Most games and apps don't take much memory, I have about 80 installed.

I also seriously doubt they would phase out the 16gb model. The reason its harder to find is 1. more people want it. 2. there's more profit margin in the 32gb model so retailers prefer it.

how is doubling the storage for only $30 a bad deal?

jjj444yes 12-08-2012 10:52 AM

better deal at officemax, $220 + tax, 1 day free ship + cloth cleaning kit (meh)

$30 off of $150 coupon which works on this item (check mail or there might be a one code that's not unique)

ONLINE purchase only - CAN'T be done on the phone.. which sucks for people that have multiple rewards cards, as you can only use one online

outside of the very YMMV radio shack deal.. all the nexus deals have been in the 32 gb range.. with office depot being the lowest at $215 (expired)

given some defects in production on this item.. I would avoid buying from online retailer that don't have effortless and free returns

because 16gb sd card costs $10.

And memory that isn't needed isn't worth anything.

daman22 12-08-2012 11:06 AM

isnt needed for you /= not needed for others. Compared to other tablets, doubling built in memory for only $30 is a great deal.

and the nexus 7 doesnt have a sd card slot last I checked.

Are you 100% sure that the 30 off 150 coupon works on Nexus 7? Those coupons are easy enough to find on eBay but the language specifically excludes tablets on every one that I see. Would like to get confirmation from someone who has actually used it on a purchase.

With OTG Cable and Nexus Media imported app for $5, can't you pretty much extend to whatever you want? Of course, it is not same as having memory on the device. You can argue that over 2 years, $2 per month is not expensive.

What does "rooting" on this achieve?

yessir, bought one on thursday morning 12/6 , was delivered on 12/7

there's a thread back from nov where the same deal worked 100%

again, the sucky part is that it's ONLINE only.. and so I wasn't able to get it free after rewards

$238 shipped w. tax.. the cleaning cloth is backordered, but who cares

the OM codes being mentioned are 1 time use, just to verify. Found a couple on coupon sites, tried them, said this code has already been redeemed. Do they come in email if you are signed up for OM emails? I wasnt before, but just signed up yesterday, would be great if someone had a code they arent gonna use.

a78134 12-08-2012 02:13 PM

is there any instore coupon? Many of the staples stores has 16Gb in stock for $199 ... can someone help??

$30 off of $150 is Office max and as of this last thursday it worked for me on the nexus...and it does NOT have "tablets" in the exclusions

the nexus is an Online only item... on office max

Yes, just under $254 including tax. Probably not the best deal, but it is a Christmas present and I was worried about running out of time to get one.

Blade107 12-08-2012 10:22 PM

Guys sorry about if that has been asked before but in comparing this with the newer Samsung tablet, is the Nexus 7 way better for the price, even without the micro sd adapter?

What do you mean, you couldn't get it free due to being online? Can't you redeem MaxPerks discount codes online? Or is there some sort of limit about how many you can use at once? I just bought a 30 off 150 from eBay and have around $200 in MaxPerks so hoping that all works out. Bulk of my rewards is on a single code.

Yes, and same for most of the $25 off $75 coupons, too. Computers (desktops and laptops) are usually the only exception, everything else, like tablets, work. These coupons pop up frequently on eBay for around 3-6 dollars. You just have to keep checking.

Behave 12-09-2012 04:20 AM

you can only use a single max perks rewards card or gc on an online order

in store and likely on phone, you can use up to 3 rewards/gc's

cause its cheaper, google play charges tax and shipping, or at least tax, this offer basically takes the amount of the tax off.

Couple of my friends with Nexus 7 got the Poetic case and they like it. It's not the cheapest though.

seems they caught on to it, was just gonna ask if anyones been checking there shipment status. My total would be right on $250 with the coupon, so was thinking about biting, but dunno now. I just wanna get it form a store with location near me in case something happens and I need to return/exchange.

dochollywood101 12-09-2012 10:26 AM

Did they exempt the tablets afterwards or were they always in the exclusion list for this coupon??

It can use sd cards with an otg cable and an app.

$30 for 16gb of memory isn't a good deal. period.

Your comment about others is meaningless. Neither you or I know what anyone needs or wants so you have no point.

daman22 12-09-2012 11:05 AM

maybe ppl just want simplicity and dont wanna have to hook a cable everytime they need to access something on the external storage. much rather pay the $30 than having to do that all the time. Its a tablet, meant to be portable.and since a 16gb card is gonna be at least $10, thats at most $20 for the convenience of built in storage. You cant say its not a good deal period. It would be a good deal for me, as I would use my tab on teh go, and Im not pulling a cable out whenever I need the extra storage, when I could avoid the hassle all together for less than $20 extra

Well, "researching" could mean lots of things, but it is concerning. I just placed an order using a 30 off 150 so hoping there isn't any problem. I think there are different coupons floating around and some seem to exclude tablets while some do not.

Because he doesn't want to put any HD movies on there. If you just use it for basic games etc then 8gb is ok.

My wife filled up her kindle fire (8gb) pretty quickly.

All she did was put 2 movies for the baby on there along with about 10 albums of music and about 25 books. Then she downloaded the Angry birds and about 5 other games.

Now whenever she wants to download a new movie or app she has to delete a movie that the little one likes.

8gb is NOT 8gb user available. It's 5.92 gb. So really 8gb is a joke if you really want to utilize the tegra 3 graphics and true resolution of the tablet.

If you plan on keeping the tablet for 2+ years - then I highly suggest spending the extra $20-30$ for double the storage.

Especially if you have kids that watch the same 3-4 movies/shows over and over again.

80 apps/games on 5.92 gb? That must mean a lot of the apps you have are like calculator, note taker etc because if they are any real 3d games or google maps (40mb) then you'd be out pretty quickly. Need for speed is 600+ mb So that's 10% of your tablet right there.

I guess if you want to spend 200$ on a tablet and only be able to have 10 games at a time, have to uninstall, reinstall everytime you want an 11th game then I guess that's ok.

Researching is generally not great. Best case, it delays your order, worse case it gets cancelled. If it's a delay, it will either get cleared in 2-3 days, or Staples will call you to confirm something (e.g. address verification). If cancelled you'll get a call most of the time too.

nitenichiryu 12-11-2012 01:50 PM

I called Staples as well and they said that they have a large backlog and they're getting through it slowly. They said to give it a day or two and it should go through...

Nook HD has the highest display resolution ever for a 7-inch tablet at 1,440 x 900, besting the 1,280 x 800 display of the Kindle Fire HD (and Nexus).
The Nook HD is a bit lighter in the hand than the Kindle Fire HD, too, and it comes in an attractive shell casing so that when you hold it, you don't get fingerprints on the front of the glass.
The Nook HD costs $199 for an 8GB model and $229 for a 16GB model. Both come with expandable storage options, so you can stick an SD card with up to 64GB of content into the device (this is not available on Kindle or Nexus.)

The Nook 9" Nook HD+ has 1920 x 1,280 display and can play movies in 1,080p HD. It's also nice and light, at 515 grams. For reference, the new iPad weighs 652 grams and is noticeably heftier.
Nook HD+ is the lightest full HD tablet ever invented.
Nook HD+ costs $269 for a 16GB model and $299 for a 32GB model (less than corresponding Kindle models.) Both also come with the option to expand your storage with a microSD card (again not available on either Kindle or iPad or Nexus).

azxswq 12-14-2012 07:46 AM

Order successful.

Been playing with this since Monday 10th. Ordered it on Thursday 6th.

Used up > $62 worth of coupons/rewards.

Can't complain... love the Nexus and Staples order was easier than I thought.
