Microsoft Countdown to 2013 Sale - Xbox live - Dec 18-31
 

A whopping great big Countdown to 2013 sale hits Xbox Live next week, offering a bunch of festive discounts.

Each day of the sale is themed around a particular game, publisher or genre and it all kicks off next week.

The news comes via a NeoGAF user who spotted the upcoming sale on Xbox.com [xbox.com]. Oddly, the actual discounts are yet to be revealed.

We’ll bring them when they hit, but in the meantime check out the list below. Fingers crossed they’re offering up decent deals.

I saw something about the first episode being free on the 28th, not sure about the others.

Edit: the xbox page said 'Play all five episodes of this acclaimed series, with the first one FREE for one week starting December 25." You can see the google cache of the page here, it shows the other episodes as 400 points but I think that's the regular price.

Well, there was one on BF at Target when they sold MS 1600 pts($20 value) for $10. You could probably still find resellers on craigslist or ebay.

Off topic a little but I ordered the xbox bundle on Black Friday from Microsoft with the Forenza and Halo and 250 gig xbox. I received the xbox, then the games, and then another xbox.

I called Microsoft to tell them and they said I would not be charged and a supervisor was supposed to call me to give me instructions to return it. It has almost been two weeks. How long do I need to keep this or should I call my credit card company>

I'm amazed there's so much talk about these games already when we don't know how much the discounts will be, except for the 1 free title tomorrow. The discounts could be some trivial amount off or they could be significant. Knowing Microsoft unfortunately I don't expect the sale to be too good.

It's well worth the money, and one of my favorite downloadable games of this generation.

SC has been a part of their "deals" multiple times.
It was on sale in 2009, part of "Saints and Shadows" last year, and on sale just last month.

It was on sale less than a month ago. While it was only 400 points off (regularly 1200 on sale for 800), that's still a sale. I picked it up a while ago when it was on sale for 560 points. Since it came out in 2009, it has been on sale 5 different times with at least once every year. source [xbldb.com].

Deal of the week 12/21/2009, 6/14/2010 (53% off), and 10/11/2011. It was on sale for their BF sale, though, but only 33% off.

I was one of those fools who spent $30 on the Oblivion: Shivering Isles. Having bought one copy of Skyrim, I fully intend on waiting until the GotY edition to get my taste of the DLC content. If the DLCs are too cheap, I might not be able to resist.

Depending on what the prices are, this could be a good sale or it could not be. The last couple years have had some good and bad deals for their Christmas promos (isn't it usually like the 12 days of Xmas or something?). There are usually a couple good XBLA games for ~200 points.

Nothing on the list really appeals to me, so hopefully the unannounced stuff is really good. I might get the Trials Evo DLC.

I was hoping for the Kinectimals "now with bears" DLC

Jet Set Radio was $4.89 on PSN+ in November, I tried the demo on the Xbox 360 (since PSN doesn't have demos for about 75% of its games), and I didn't buy it. So count me as a fool. In my limited gameplay (maybe 20 minutes worth) I didn't think it was worth $4.89 or 400 points. I'm not saying it was bad... just not particularly good that I could see.

Still 3 more days before anything goes on sale and any prices are known, and yet so much discussion...

Kinect Party is too farking funny if there are a couple of you, just played it for the past hour with the lady.

It's free, just make sure you "purchase" the 574mb game, and the 108k ... patch/plugin/whatever. If you only get the game, it'll keep bugging you to unlock the other 36 levels. I went back for the 108k patch, and everything's great.

Not finding COD MF3

I really wish MS would just give us a discount on a game of our choosing instead of putting the same stuff up for sale again and again and again. The games I want never seem to go on sale, and the ones that do I already have.

This only applies to unsolicited merchandise sent to you by a company that you don't have an existing business relationship with. For example Dyson can't send you a vacuum out of the blue and tell you that you can try it out for 30 days for free. You aren't obligated to return their vacuum or pay for it in that instance.

The extra item in your order was clearly a mistake and you will have to send it back or they can charge you for it if they choose. You were clearly conducting a solicited business transaction with them. Call them again and tell them they have 30 days to give you a prepaid label or you are keeping it.

Wouldn't the example given on the FTC web page contradict your assessment?

"...You respond to an advertisement offering a free "trial" pair of pantyhose. To your surprise, you receive four pairs with a bill.

...You receive a pocket knife that you never ordered. Despite your objections, the company continues to send you notices demanding payment and threatening your credit rating."

In the first example given it specifically states that if you respond to an advertised offer (e.g. enter into a business transaction) but instead receive additional unordered merchandise that you are covered by this regulation.

the only suggestion is don't wait till you need them to buy them. When you get MS pts on sale, you are getting free money. The only way someone is going to give you free money is if you let them tie up capital (called interest). I try to have about 2000 pts at any given time. If you drop below 1600...buy another card on he next sale.

Meijer always has a $4 off a $20 purchase about now...$16 for 1600 is your typical deal.

Rayman Origins is a fantastic game for anyone on the fence. Great graphics, fun game play, and enjoyable co-op. Great game to play with the GF.

Wish I would have bought a couple of the Lego games for my kids yesterday, but I too thought the prices lasted for a few days.

Why do people even bother with GOD? It makes no sense. Take Rayman Origins, "on sale" for $10.

1. you have to wait for the game to download
2, you dont have a physical copy
3. cant let someone else borrow it
4. cant sell it if you dont like it or get tired of it
5. it takes up hard drive space
6. a physical copy in many cases is as cheap or cheaper

rayman origins was $10 over 4 months ago, and you don't have to deal with the stuff listed here. lol

1. I don't have to wait for the physical copy to arrive in the mail, or spend time and gas to pick one up.
2, I don't have to waste physical space to store a physical copy. Already got too many games stacked in my living room.
3. someone else cannot beg me to borrow it
4. It is bound to my live account forever and won't get lost or damaged during use. if I don't like it or get tired of it, I can press a single button to delete it, and can always re-download it later.
5. I don't need to,locate the case, open it, pop in the disc to my console and listen to it spinning each time I want to play it. And I don't need to take a disc out afterwards. My 250GB HDD is more than enough for games. I can always add 2x32 GB USB later.
6. in this case 800 MSP is much cheaper than $10 + tax because I get MSP at a discount and for free from promotions and rewards.

Please tell me you are joking. For starters, you can resell a game and get your money back fully, or in a lot of cases, more than you paid for it to begin with. That in itself makes all of these irrelevant.

Not everyone sells their games. So that in of itself makes your argument irrelevant for me and most likely the person you're quoting. In the end, who cares. It's up to the individual.

Something bothers me about the the whole thing regarding being able to delete these games and just redownload them later. Does XBL have a list of the arcade games you own, or do you have to look at purchase history? Because I do like having games on steam, being able to delete the local install and reinstall them whenever I want, but when I delete something from my xbox, it seems to just disappear, not leaving a trace behind to remind me that I own it.

You can go to your account history and see everything you have ever downloaded/purchased and re-download most of it. The exception being a lot of the free themes can't always be re-downloaded. The thing that is bad about the purchase history is everything is grouped all together in 1 giant un-sortable list. If you've been a member for years you are probably like myself and have well over 1,000 things listed including hundreds of demos and trials.

I bought it with the MS points I got from bing rewards so it didn't cost me anything. Same with the 2 lego games and the 3 or 4 other games I've bought from the marketplace in the last year.

But for some people, the conveniece is worth not being able to resell - especially if the game is for kids who have a habit of scratching discs.

It's not as easy to find or display as it is on steam, but you can view your purchase and billing history on xbox.com

1. Starting from the main page after you log in go to My Account.
2. Under Xbox Stores History go to Puchase history. (for the sake of argument a purchase is anything you download, even if it cost you nothing)
3. If you want to see the billing you can then select the link to Microsoft Billing Website. This opens a separate site that shows you all the points activity in addition to what you paid for. You'll most likely need to login here again.
4. On this first page it lists Recent Transactions.
5. You can then click View Transactions and this allows you to set a date range to view items you purchased and also show when microsoft points were credited.

Yup, been a LIVE member for 10 years, so everything I've downloaded on 360 will be there. The main thing that clutters it is that I have downloaded a ton of rock band DLC :P

I was thinking about the benefit of digital vs disk yesterday. Both appeal to me but disk moreso because some of the games have free bonus content and/or point codes inside.

It's been as low as 400 MSP in the past, so maybe it'll drop that low again.

I personally have lots of free points I have gotten from Bing Rewards or contests. I do mostly use my points for XBLA games though, but once in awhile I buy some GoD using my points. A $10 game will only be 800 MSP.

Awww man, now I dunno if I'd pay 800pts for it. I had the original on Dreamcast and I loved it. I have the PC version and played it in arcades too :D

It's not as easy as using the steam client, but you can go to https://live.xbox.com/en-US/Download/History and then use the filters on the left to show full games, DLC, Arcade Games etc. I think it's sorted by the last download time. You can add anything directly to your download queue from that screen, too.
