The Blu-Ray playback in the Platinum version is the feature to get here. This is a deal-within-deal and the true SlickDeal part of the OP. For only a $20 additional upfront cost, down to only $10 AR, you get Blu-Ray playback functionality.

There is no other way to get Blu-Ray playback software for anywhere near $10, period.

Binar 12-19-2012 02:36 AM

What qualifies as upgrade for the rebate?any version of the upgraded software listed? Do we need the cd or the manual of the said software?

Nooice.
I have none of those official copies, so the upgrade/ money maker part wouldn't be available to me......but those are sexy for people that can get in on them.
Free is good, free + cash is egggcellent.

:bump:

Shipping is now FREE on both titles. :)

I thought your math was wrong for the platinum but just had the rebate amount wrong. It has a 50 and 20 rebate not 40 and 20.

No worries.

Does Nero ever have the full versions FAR anywhere other than Frys? I am taxed at Frys so really wanted it to truly be FAR since I don't really need this.

rshaw1 12-19-2012 06:19 AM

I just bought Nero Burn Express 2 from another FAR deal and have sent the rebate in. Does anybody know if that purchase would qualify as an upgrade product for Nero 12?

Different dates and promo codes, so you should be ok.

jhoover58 12-19-2012 06:28 AM

Thanks. When you need the latest copy of Nero, you really need the latest copy of Nero and if you don't catch a deal like this you'll pay dearly for it later. In for Platinum.

According to a person in this thread it does not qualify.

I got this during bf deals at Frys

Its got tons of stuff, i'm not even sure how to use all of it. I did try to use the blu ray player to play a video :mad:but it didn't work. so far just tried to play the one. mixed reviews at newegg

Is there any way to get the upgrade rebate without being an actual owner of it! Thanks TDMVP!

You may knew it already but just saying.. you can just follow on TDMVP and you should be good!

billcsho 12-19-2012 07:28 AM

Typo in OP. The primary rebate for the Nero 12 Platinum is $50 not $40.
This is actually a better deal than the BF week one as the initial out of pocket cost is lower, but less eligible cash back too. The last $9.99AR deal was sold out (but with back order available) very soon.

usb 12-19-2012 08:11 AM

Thanks. Was looking for a blu-ray playback software for my PC as I am having trouble with the older version of powerdvd not playing newer blu-ray movies and VLC is hit or miss on some bluray movies as well. $9.99AR is a good price point.

bjtransam 12-19-2012 08:25 AM

Thanks OP, in 4 one Platinum.

not sure yet, I got mine during black Friday and as of today, "they have received my submittions and it is being processed" but I think everything will go thru okay. I had nero 11 to submit for my upgrade rebate.

I have the Nero 9 Essentials, bundled with a Blu-ray drive. Is it good for the rebate?
NVM: OEM products are not qualified.

jamex 12-19-2012 10:00 AM

People still use Nero?

pistoncup 12-19-2012 10:12 AM

My issue at first to get it FAR is you need to submit the UPC for both separate rebate/upgrade. for which i cannot do that.. But reading the instructions .. A must to submit the ORIGINAL upc for $40 rebate and COPY of UPC to get $20 for the UPGRADE..

please refute me if otherwise

I'd like to know this too. I don't have any of the software to begin with for upgrades, but I want in on the Nero deal.

walted 12-19-2012 10:40 AM

N for Platinum
Its got to be better than Nero 9....yuck!!

billcsho 12-19-2012 10:45 AM

Got a BD burner last month. I have been waiting for the Nero12 Platinum back in stock with this rebate deal since 3 weeks ago. Got the Sony movie studio FAR on BF for the competitive upgrade rebate of this.

slohasley 12-19-2012 10:56 AM

It looks like the big difference between Nero 12 and Nero 12 Platinum is blu-ray playback capability in Platinum based on Nero's comparison here: http://www.nero.com/eng/products/...rsions.php Is this the only benefit or am I missing something?

If so, I will probably just go with Nero 12 since I'm using Windows XP and it doesn't support Blu-Ray playback.

Been using this version for a while, great software. Nero Express really makes short work of anything you are trying to accomplish...

DAPlayer supposedly has Blu-Ray playback functionality for free. http://www.digiarty.com/ I've never tested the blu-ray playback because I'm running XP.

Appleanche 12-19-2012 01:30 PM

How good is Nero for blu-ray playback? I read PowerDVD cuts off support after 2 years, so any new blu-rays after can't be played.. or something ridiculous like that.

Is it the same situation with Nero?

Bigshottt 12-19-2012 04:14 PM

21% say bad product. I have seen the newest version so I cannot say if it is good or bad but to be sure it is one of those products that are more complex than it needs to be and as a result, resource intensive. I use Ashampoo Burning Studio 11 and find it serves me well. It is free occasionally...as a SLICK DEAL.

Nero is bloatware grows more massive every year. The latest will probably suck the life out of your computer. You'll be sorry.

Bad news here:

phillip9 12-20-2012 09:28 AM

rebate PDF printing question.

the link for the $20.00 nero 12 Platinum downloads a PDF, but the form is so small it is barely readable or usable.

I have tried making changes in my Adobe Reader and PDF Converter Enterprise software and the only choices I have that change the size are Fit To Page or Full Page, but the difference is only a few millimeters of printer size.

I also used the offer # 45497 to search Fry's rebate page and that does not load any results

any advise would be appreciated in order to print this as a usable form. (FYI - the other form prints fine, although it takes up the FULL page, so it is sort of too big )

thanks

I use foxit pdf reader but I think Acrobat has the same option. Here is what I did:

1. tools->snapshot
2. select the rebate form area
3. click on print. "Selected Graphic" should be selected.
4. uncheck auto-rotate
5. Change scaling type from "fit to printer margins" to "Custom Scale"
6. Set page zoom to 150%

I unchecked auto-rotate because it tends to be in landscape mode with it on and the form comes out humongous. "Fit to printer margins" also seem to be a bit too large to my liking so I did the custom scale of 150% which seemed to look good and not overly large (see attached).

Enz0 12-21-2012 06:08 PM

The upgrade rebate terms are a bit unclear...

"Enclose Proof of ownership from one of the qualifying products listed. Proof of ownership is the original front cover of the User’s Manual, software activation email, copy of receipt, copy of UPC, copy of the CD with serial number."

You just need to send one or ALL of these? Who has done these upgrade with nero before? Input?

stevehuff 12-22-2012 09:31 AM

Any concerns of submitting this rebate if I also submitted promo #s 44772 and 44773 from Fry's Black Friday sale? Is Nero treated like McAfee where it really is one rebate per household?

walted 12-26-2012 05:51 PM

In for one.
I"ll see what happens with the rebates.
This has got to be better than Nero 9..it Sux!!

Slickdeezee 12-26-2012 06:56 PM

I haven't used Nero in ages, I don't really burn CDRs/DVDRs anymore given how cheap large capacity USB sticks are. But I picked up Platinum because of the Blu-ray capability.

Is there any trick to installing Nero 12 so it doesn't muck up my system with its entire suite of software which seemingly does everything? I just want the Bluray player and Burning ROM.

sheshe30 12-28-2012 06:26 AM

I don't have a copy for the upgrade for platinum. Some how I got confused on the upgrade info after I had purchased this online at Fry's. I found my older copy of nero and just realized it is OEM so I don't qualify for the upgrade. I bought platinum to get a newer version since my older version I own is not compatible with WIN 7 and WIN 8. Can I still do the $50 rebate? I was just trying to get Nero 12 at a better price than paying full price. Also I wanted to know if I must cut the physical UPC off the box to do the $50 rebate? Since I don't live near a Fry's I hope the packing slip that came with the shipment is ok.....

Tyross 12-29-2012 11:21 AM

FYI - When you install the software, it will ask you about installing garbage tool bars, which you can opt out of....HOWEVER, when you update the software it rams AVG toolbar up your @$$ even if you say no. You can disable it in Firefox under add-ons, but wow thanks Ahead Software for the rape. You are better off with the pirated version.

Everyone who bought Nero 12 Platinum qualifies for the $50 rebate.

This requires that you send in the physical UPC off the box. Personally, I would use a copy of the emailed or online receipt rather than the packing slip.

The extra $20 rebate is *is* only for those who have some proof of ownership for one of the following retail copies of the following:

Adobe® Premiere® Elements
Cyberlink Media Suite, PowerDirector
Corel VideoStudio®
Pinnacle Studio
Roxio Creator
Sony Vegas™ Movie Studio
Nero 7 and later

Proof of ownership is the original front cover of the User’s Manual, software activation email, copy of receipt, copy of UPC, copy of the CD with serial number. You should need just *one* of these.

Agree. Even if I cannot dig up the proof required for the upgrade offer (I think I have an old Pinnacle somewhere), this still looks like a reliable solution for playing blu-ray discs within WMC. I would love to find a free solution, but all those I have tried to date have limitations at best.

Thanks OP and deelseaker for pointing out the real value in this deal.

--------

Just a quick update and warning regarding the software. I received and installed the software, for the purpose of using the Blu-Ray player. There are issues. See: http://forum.my.nero.com/index.ph...4041&st=20 for reports of problems users are having the the software. An update is reportedly in the works, but as of the current version, many users are unable to watch movies in full screen mode. Might need a deal on PowerDVD...

screenlin 03-03-2013 03:49 PM

Update: got both the $50 & $20 rebates finally. ;-)
