Can anyone tell me why the 8-year-old 4MP Fujifilm S5100 sells for $50 on eBay

Camera and photography wizards... I have a question for you. I have an S5100 and I want to sell it. I was thinking I would never be able to sell it on a local deals site because of overcrowding of old cameras, so I was checking eBay to see if my camera would sell there.

The answer, from my search, is yes and for far more money than I expected. Can anyone tell me why this model of camera, which only has 4MP and was released in 2004, will sell for $50-70 and in one case for as much as $120?

Here's a search:

And here's a sample sale:

Are purchasers on eBay just being dumb or is there something I don't know?

Its because it is a Digital SLR. Holds its value.

It's not an dSLR, it's a "prosumer" camera with attached zoom lens. Some people like a specific camera to replace an old one that they really liked. Others stick with old 4MP sensors because they have less noise (newer sensors, are better though).

Or maybe they want the "pro" look at a cheap price, and don't mind the way worse image quality. Whatever it is, you should sell it on there to get the max return, (after shipping and ebay fees).

it's (now) a cheap camera that has a lot of options/settings - appealing for those who want to learn about photography on a budget (also it's digital)

I'm surprised. I've held onto it for these reasons (the settings, zoom, and surprising ability to take never-ending videos at double low-res TV quality), but I have long considered it obsolete.

I suspect the 'looks like a dSLR' thing must be at play here. Thank you all for the comments.

That is the price for this kind of used digital super zoom cameras, such as Canon S1 IS, Panasonic DMC-FZ15...
