pcmag's review of the 2nd gen i3-2350m version
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2...849,00.as as well as notebook's analysis of the goodies (i3 version though) http://www.notebookche This was good through 12/26 so it looks like the deal is DEAD... :( DEAD |
Out of your control OP, but I wish this had a higher resolution screen. Saddens me to still see so many with inferior resolution.
Nice find though! |

canceled the AH in favor of this I don't need a huge screen since this has HDMI and a nice processor bump plus the chipset is the same so I don't have any concern regarding its ability to be upgraded I wasn't sure if the i3 would be suitable but this really helps out.
|
The Kev Master got this to replace his XPS M1330.
His requirements are it had to be 14" or smaller with at least an i5 processor and as always, the cheaper the better. |
Nice laptop, but isn't it a little on the heavy side?
http://www.shopfujitsu |
I just got back from 7am trip to Frys. Got me this laptop, a Canon Pixma all-in-one MX432, the Canon D420, the Buffalo 3TB exhd, and the portable Hitachi Touro 1TB exhd. Setting up the laptop ATM. In terms of the weight concern, it's not that bad, but I'm upgrading from my old Inspiron 6300, so take that with a grain of salt.
|
Not bad at all. If I didn't need a touch screen for development, I would be all over it.

Customer Service - is extremely stupid, have to contact them every day to update the status of RMA and still nothing for 10 more days... Wouldn't recommend.. |
Just bought it after like the 10th try a few hours later, Finally worked and didn't give me system error. Keep trying every few mins.

Great deal for an i5. Never owned a Fujitsu before though. anybody know if they are good reliability wise? |
front page deal

Been using a Fujitsu Lifebook LH531 for the past year -
atrocious sound quality and volume level - its just plain quiet. Everything else has been rock-solid. We paid $330 out the door last year from Fry's. Tough to find 14" cheapo laptops. |
Does anyone get this total?

I can't vouch for the quality of this specific model, but I have an old school Fujitsu Stylistic Slate Tablet. I'm a college instructor and I used it nearly every day for hours day, and after almost 7 years of using it... it's still going strong. I can't say that about any other computer I've ever owned... laptop or desktop. The only problem was the hard drive crashed a couple of years ago (not really Fujitsu's fault though). I only had a few programs and some data which was backed up a couple of weeks before the crash. Fixed it in a total of about an hour.

For those concerned about the weight: I own an Asus G73SW. It weighs over 8 lbs. If less than 5 lbs is heavy, start lifting some weights. :P

Someone explain to me the reason for having winows 8 without having a touchscreen laptop?

How does it compare to the other i5 Lenovo G580 that is about the same price? |

There are more +'s but the fact that head to head it will run faster than 7 makes it worth it. Anyone that tell you otherwise has not done an actual real world head to head. I have even done a head to head on slowish/basic usage netbooks (the Acer 722 that everybody got at target). Did a fresh install of Win8 Ult. Enterprise Edition and fresh of Win7 Ult. Enterprise Edition on two identical machines (even bought at the same time. The Win8 machine consistently beat the 7 machine in tasks (was 1:1 on several tasks) including boot. Booted 7 seconds faster after both machines were 100% updated from MS. I would argue it is a much better OS and have shown the public the metro look much too much and have people under the impression that it is vastly different which it simply is not. |

Hopefully Microsoft will reconsider and come out with a patch to put the Start menu back in and make it part of the OS instead of people having to use third party apps to do it. And by the way, the PCmag review is for a 2nd generation i3-2350m which is not even close to the i5-3210m... |

Granted ... no clue how people will use Windows 8 without a touch screen - MS designed it around the use of a touch screen and you can't please everyone. I really really really love it. I've never seen Windows so smooth. Coming back to my laptop is like going back to Windows 3.1 from Windows 95. It's that different! Honestly - people don't judge it until you've really spent 20-30 minutes to learn it. Playing with it for 2 minutes in the store with the wife nagging me to "let's go!".. didn't show me anything. The swipes, the gestures, shortcuts are EXTREMELY well thought out and designed. I'm actually considering a Windows 8 phone because I like the tablet so much. I'm not sure it will scale down to phone nicely but I am blown away with the tablet and functionality. |

I got the i3 version during the thanksgiving day. The sound from this laptop is very very LOW. I tried all kinds of plugins to boost the audio but the speakers are not capable of higher volume. Fujitsu support also said that the speakers volume is just that.
Just an FYI for the folks. |

nice deal, seems a bit bulky but the performance is defeinitely there |
Fujitsu makes really good laptops. I know several professionals that use it and praise its reliability. Even my doctor uses it for entering data and giving out prescriptions. I don't think she'd use a unreliable computer for such sensitive work
|
Finally a $400ish laptop for my Bro-in-law. I've been looking but he's had cold feet or things have sold out before he would get to them. Solid specs for a good price. Glad this one came back, thanks OP.

Too bad this isn't the UH572 - that's one nice looking laptop.
The only issue I have with this is them calling it "thin and light." At 4.85lbs. and 1.41" thick, it's not exactly svelte. Nice specs though. http://www.shopfujitsu |

I don't know anything about computers, but reading SDer's comments makes me consider this laptop. I'm just wondering, is this computer still a good deal if I have to pay taxes (~$31)? Or should I hold out until Amazon has a similar deal, which I am waiting for but seems not to happen lol?

Picked up the lower I3 w7 model that was on sale during BF. I believe the only difference is the processor, ram and OS. It is on the thicker side, however the laptop looks nice overall and runs pretty decent so far. Nice spec with usb 3.0, hdmi and hd4000 graphic for the price range.
|
Quote:
|
what would be the difference between the HD4000 graphics card and the UMA one I've seen on other laptops?

I picked up the i3 version, upgraded the RAM, replaced the HDD with an SSD and it is insanely fast
I can't imagine what those two upgrades + an i5 processor would look like! |
Quote:
|
bought the i3 for 278 plus taxes on bf. good little laptop but ended up selling it. fry's charges a 15% restocking fee so figured i might as well resell it.
Picked up a lenovo ideapad instead and no complaints, although the fujitsu is better on paper the ideapad is slimmer, lighter, has better battery life, and is miles ahead in terms of build quality, and works better with windows 8 (fijitsu had lack of drivers in some areas). I bought it at staples for 299$ and couldn't be happier with the decision. If you're looking for a laptop that can survive with a lot of wear and tear + fantastic specs, but can deal with INSANELY terrible sound was way too low and extremely tinny (i could probably hear better with headphones plugged in and all the way up), subpar trackpad, and a cheap plasticy keyboard with a lot of flex, this is a good buy. |

Frys SUCK

Just looked at the Fry's specs and it says 7 hours. I would say that would be almost right if you were just doing the light work like I did. Task the second video card and the optical player and it will drop. Also, I imagine a strong wifi signal or lan connection is good for power saving too. |

A shame it really is efficient and quicker than my windows 7 laptop that has double the ram. Also wmc? Haven't used that in a while. I've been using xbmc and its great. I guess if you have a TV tuner card then wmc might be better but in a laptop I think I prefer xbmc. |

And of course anyone who takes five minutes to research will find how they can have a start screen identical to windows 7 with two or three minutes of changes done once. Windows 7 is Vista compared to windows 8. |
Mine came in the mail today! The laptop's not as heavy as I thought it would be and has everything I need (If I had to guess it probably weighs between 5 to 6 pounds). Those who did get it - it's a steal! I've never bought a fujitsu before but I've gotta say -- I'm fairly impressed! No complaints so far (well except that Windows 8 SUCKS but eh -- I'll get used to it with time). It is not thin like the newer ultra books but for this price -- it wasn't an issue for me.
Those considering other fujitsu laptops - I would definitely recommend it. I've previously owned dell, samsung, and acer(never again!!) laptops. |
Quote:
He is not sure if putting in the SSD is all that necessary but since he has the memory he'll probably just stick it in. |
I am thoroughly impressed with this laptop. I don't get what the **** is some people's problem. Too thick? This is a normal to slightly lighter then normal laptop. You want an ultrabook? Get an ultrabook. The rubber like exterior and the build quality in general of this laptop puts my y580 that I just bought to complete shame. Lenovo has no pride at all compared to this less then half Fujitsu. Granted it doesn't have the same specs by a long shot but build quality should still be way better on something twice as expensive.
Sound can be somewhat fixed. In the realtek cp it has a loudness leveling option... crank that baby up to 10 and the sound becomes not unbearably soft. Right off the bat you need to adjust gesture controls too. Specifically the ones that are activated by sliding on the edge, those where driving me crazy during setup last night. In my absolute most unreasonable dreams, this feature packed laptop would have a 1080p ips screeen and a backlit keyboard but the value of this laptop at this price makes me think this was one of last years best buys at $400. |

This is a bit of an upgrade for me, as I previously had an earlier generation i3. Another downfall to this is the windows8. I'm not so much a fan of the tiles among other things. Even though it seems slightly quicker than windows7. Overall a really good machine here for the price. I'd recommend it for the price alone along with the great specs. |
This is awesome that the deal is back and that means more reps and credit for TheKevMaster!

Got mine....2 problems found (1) WiDi not working...Device manager showed a problem code 31 with improper drivers installed..(2) Wireless dropped off showing Limited Connection...All problems were fixed now by re-installing the up-to-date drivers from Fujitsu.com and Intel...but sometimes the wireless still dropped off...has anyone run into the same problem? I am afraid mine is the only one that was not properly configured...Overall, the performance is decent...~30% faster than AH531 (i5 2410M, got this from Frys in Nov 2011) and ~70% faster than Lenovo S405 (A6-4455m just got this from Staple in Dec 2012.)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Logitech-...1e6e35eecb Just got my speakers in the mail today. They blow the stock speakers out of the water. |
Started playing around with mine today - like it a lot. The keypad takes a little getting used to.
Wondered if anyone else noticed that there are two 340 gb hard drive partitions listed. Is there actually two HDs or is it just split up into two parts? And 340x2 only equals 680gb, while it's supposed to be 750gb... I'm wanting to put an SSD in there. Thanks. |
