DEAD

Out of your control OP, but I wish this had a higher resolution screen. Saddens me to still see so many with inferior resolution.

Nice find though!

resolution may be ok for 14". its very bad for ah532 15.6" which i had bought earlier.

buzz86us 12-26-2012 10:31 AM

canceled the AH in favor of this I don't need a huge screen since this has HDMI and a nice processor bump plus the chipset is the same so I don't have any concern regarding its ability to be upgraded I wasn't sure if the i3 would be suitable but this really helps out.

The Kev Master 12-26-2012 10:53 AM

The Kev Master got this to replace his XPS M1330.

His requirements are it had to be 14" or smaller with at least an i5 processor and as always, the cheaper the better.

Brodiaga 12-26-2012 10:59 AM

Nice laptop, but isn't it a little on the heavy side?

http://www.shopfujitsu.com/store/...roductinfo

liquidnite 12-26-2012 11:09 AM

I just got back from 7am trip to Frys. Got me this laptop, a Canon Pixma all-in-one MX432, the Canon D420, the Buffalo 3TB exhd, and the portable Hitachi Touro 1TB exhd. Setting up the laptop ATM. In terms of the weight concern, it's not that bad, but I'm upgrading from my old Inspiron 6300, so take that with a grain of salt.

inventix1136 12-26-2012 11:42 AM

Not bad at all. If I didn't need a touch screen for development, I would be all over it.

It is definitely a heavy laptop, that's for sure -- but they don't advertise it as a ultra portable either...

the ad lists this laptop as an in-store doorbuster deal, so you shouldn't be able to order or reserve it online

I ordered this an hour ago, and it worked fine for me. Definitely try back in a few. I was having issues with the fry's website last night.

It is not nice laptop. Let's say webcam is pretty bad and sound level very low. Almost useless for skype.

Customer Service - is extremely stupid, have to contact them every day to update the status of RMA and still nothing for 10 more days...

Wouldn't recommend..

Been using a Fujitsu Lifebook LH531 for the past year -

atrocious sound quality and volume level - its just plain quiet.

Everything else has been rock-solid.

We paid $330 out the door last year from Fry's. Tough to find 14" cheapo laptops.

robj144 12-26-2012 05:29 PM

I can't vouch for the quality of this specific model, but I have an old school Fujitsu Stylistic Slate Tablet. I'm a college instructor and I used it nearly every day for hours day, and after almost 7 years of using it... it's still going strong. I can't say that about any other computer I've ever owned... laptop or desktop. The only problem was the hard drive crashed a couple of years ago (not really Fujitsu's fault though). I only had a few programs and some data which was backed up a couple of weeks before the crash. Fixed it in a total of about an hour.

Cause you live in CA and you get taxed! While others that out of state gets no tax :woot: So out of state most likely benefit from this.

The Kev Master 12-26-2012 06:41 PM

The Kev Master looked it up and sales taxes will apply in AZ, CA, GA, IL, IN, NV, OR, TX and WA, which means a total of 41 states will be tax free.

If you don't mind used and don't need a gaming laptop, this ultrabook 14" with optical drive is hard to beat at under $400. 15% off as well, which makes it $340 plus tax.

why does everyone on the internet complain about the resolution? I had a high resolution display for my laptop once and I sold it after 2 months of use. Everything so was darn small, was annoying to read.

They need to remove the DVD drive for slimmer design. I haven't used a dvd drive in over 10yrs

Windows 8 WILL run more efficiently than 7. The task manager is better. The file transfer interface is better. The explorer menus are updated and more useful/intuitive.

There are more +'s but the fact that head to head it will run faster than 7 makes it worth it. Anyone that tell you otherwise has not done an actual real world head to head. I have even done a head to head on slowish/basic usage netbooks (the Acer 722 that everybody got at target). Did a fresh install of Win8 Ult. Enterprise Edition and fresh of Win7 Ult. Enterprise Edition on two identical machines (even bought at the same time. The Win8 machine consistently beat the 7 machine in tasks (was 1:1 on several tasks) including boot. Booted 7 seconds faster after both machines were 100% updated from MS.

I would argue it is a much better OS and have shown the public the metro look much too much and have people under the impression that it is vastly different which it simply is not.

If only they hadn't removed the Start Menu option and just made METRO optional, Windows 8 wouldn't be getting the terrible reviews its gotten by most people...

Hopefully Microsoft will reconsider and come out with a patch to put the Start menu back in and make it part of the OS instead of people having to use third party apps to do it.

And by the way, the PCmag review is for a 2nd generation i3-2350m which is not even close to the i5-3210m...

A quick couple changes like installing Classic Shell [sourceforge.net] fixes almost all the problems with Windows 8. Otherwise, it is a solid OS.

Because it is faster than windows 7; way more secure than windows 7; because of power management does better in battery life for the same processor ad battery than win 7; has storage spaces; and you can set it up to interface exactly like win 7 if you like.

Buying choices show most people would rather not overpay another $200 for higher resolution. Scattered people repeatedly posting that buyers should overpay another $200 on $400 laptops don't equal "most people."

the samsung you note is second generation windows 7 and used. It also only has 4gb vs 6gb. The webcam on the fujitsu is fine for skype, and sound is on par with $400 laptops.

Curious why Windows 8 sucks? I have a Windows 7 laptop and my wife has a Windows 8 tablet and I LOVE it.

Granted ... no clue how people will use Windows 8 without a touch screen - MS designed it around the use of a touch screen and you can't please everyone.

I really really really love it. I've never seen Windows so smooth. Coming back to my laptop is like going back to Windows 3.1 from Windows 95. It's that different!

Honestly - people don't judge it until you've really spent 20-30 minutes to learn it. Playing with it for 2 minutes in the store with the wife nagging me to "let's go!".. didn't show me anything.

The swipes, the gestures, shortcuts are EXTREMELY well thought out and designed. I'm actually considering a Windows 8 phone because I like the tablet so much. I'm not sure it will scale down to phone nicely but I am blown away with the tablet and functionality.

Price is nice, but without touchscreen what's the point of having windows 8? Like buying a Ferrari with a 3 cylinder engine. 14" sreen? I'll stick with my 10" tablet.

slickdealer_123 12-27-2012 07:01 AM

I got the i3 version during the thanksgiving day. The sound from this laptop is very very LOW. I tried all kinds of plugins to boost the audio but the speakers are not capable of higher volume. Fujitsu support also said that the speakers volume is just that.

Just an FYI for the folks.

Still waiting for mine to get delivered, sadly I must wait till Thursday.

Want to give us "waiters" a review of what you think of the laptop. Maybe some pros and cons? I'm moving from a 17" screen laptop to this 14"... I'm wondering how I'm going to adjust... I have a feeling I'm going to miss my big screen.

Because more resolution provides space to work, without scrolling hither & freaking yon all the time.

BTW, enlarging text is an easy adjustment in modern operating systems. You should have kept it.

I am in the same boat on the waiting thing. it sucks that newegg never has really good deals on this kind of stuff because their stuff comes the next day for me. On the other front my PC was a 12" and I didn't feel a need for a 15.6 or a 17" since I had a 46" HDTV.

Its nice to have it on desktops and laptops though. That why Microsoft should have let us choose what we want instead of forcing us to use metro.

Too bad this isn't the UH572 - that's one nice looking laptop.

The only issue I have with this is them calling it "thin and light." At 4.85lbs. and 1.41" thick, it's not exactly svelte. Nice specs though.

I don't know anything about computers, but reading SDer's comments makes me consider this laptop. I'm just wondering, is this computer still a good deal if I have to pay taxes (~$31)? Or should I hold out until Amazon has a similar deal, which I am waiting for but seems not to happen lol?

Picked up the lower I3 w7 model that was on sale during BF. I believe the only difference is the processor, ram and OS. It is on the thicker side, however the laptop looks nice overall and runs pretty decent so far. Nice spec with usb 3.0, hdmi and hd4000 graphic for the price range.

HD 4000 is Intel's fastest integrated video but it is still slower than tAMD's GPU included in an equally priced AMD APU laptop, such as a recent deal for a $400 laptop (no rebate) that included the A8-4500M - which has a faster GPU than the HD 4000.

The Kev Master has all those sitting here and now he's just waiting for the laptop to show up.

tspx23 12-31-2012 11:17 AM

bought the i3 for 278 plus taxes on bf. good little laptop but ended up selling it. fry's charges a 15% restocking fee so figured i might as well resell it.

Picked up a lenovo ideapad instead and no complaints, although the fujitsu is better on paper the ideapad is slimmer, lighter, has better battery life, and is miles ahead in terms of build quality, and works better with windows 8 (fijitsu had lack of drivers in some areas). I bought it at staples for 299$ and couldn't be happier with the decision.

If you're looking for a laptop that can survive with a lot of wear and tear + fantastic specs, but can deal with INSANELY terrible sound was way too low and extremely tinny (i could probably hear better with headphones plugged in and all the way up), subpar trackpad, and a cheap plasticy keyboard with a lot of flex, this is a good buy.

Granted ... no clue how people will use Windows 8 without a touch screen - MS designed it around the use of a touch screen and you can't please everyone.

I got an i3 laptop with Win8 and used it a week. A pain to navigate around touch screen all the time when I don't have a touch screen. Also Win8 removed Windows Media Center. You have to upgrade to Win8 Pro for $80 before you can add WMC. For a limited time, WMC is a free install on Win8 Pro, but soon it will cost. It was a no brainer for me to erase Win8 and install Win7. IMO, Win8 will go same way as Vista.

Ok, this comes with Windows 8. That came out, what, last August? I got one of these for my wife, she is in college late in life. The operating system will do Windows Update for HOURS and HOURS and HOURS. For me to set this up on our complete home network (very secure), place all of the antivirus and get rid of that Norton Crap, run probably almost two Gig of Windows updates, install Office 2010 Pro, download Windows Apps for me, setup my profile like I want it, it took a long time. Probably almost 4 hours. It was off plug for the first two hours even while just running updates before changing and customizing it. I was completely happy with battery life and still had plenty left, about half. I did not want to run it completely empty and still had work to do. It fully charged in about 45 minutes from where it was. The battery is good. I imagine if you were watching DVDs, it would last about two hours, or probably about three minutes shy of a whole movie. One thing to realize about this computer, it has two video cards and switches automatically between them. The onboard video uses very little power. That is why just surfing of doing all that work was not a big load. When you are watching HD or playing intense graphics, the other video will activate and that will drive some power drain to a two hour life span. I would not do high intense gaming on this, that is not the purpose. This is a great machine for exactly what I bought it, it is for an adult with adult use. It is not designed for the power requirements typical of a youth. So without knowing your needs, I cannot answer your question. I can talk about what it does for me, and that is work exactly how I need with no problems. I am a business professional that uses tech and I like it. If I didn't I would not have bought it. That goes for power requirements, computing power, weight, everything. This is about a thousand dollar computer for less than 500 bucks today. This was a no-brainer machine choice for me. It has a great review at http://www.notebookcheck.net/Revi...495.0.html . My other HPs do not. Run other machines reviews at that site and see how they compare.

Just looked at the Fry's specs and it says 7 hours. I would say that would be almost right if you were just doing the light work like I did. Task the second video card and the optical player and it will drop. Also, I imagine a strong wifi signal or lan connection is good for power saving too.

That's because you don't have the touchscreen.

A shame it really is efficient and quicker than my windows 7 laptop that has double the ram.

Also wmc? Haven't used that in a while. I've been using xbmc and its great. I guess if you have a TV tuner card then wmc might be better but in a laptop I think I prefer xbmc.

You can always tell people who don't know a thing about pcs when they denigrate windows 8. Everything, including standard apps runs faster one widows 8. It is way more secure as well. On newer machines (like this) you can forgo a lot of antivirus bloatware due to bios level protections with 8. windows 7 is a malware magnet.
And of course anyone who takes five minutes to research will find how they can have a start screen identical to windows 7 with two or three minutes of changes done once.
Windows 7 is Vista compared to windows 8.

kalinger88 01-02-2013 06:20 PM

Mine came in the mail today! The laptop's not as heavy as I thought it would be and has everything I need (If I had to guess it probably weighs between 5 to 6 pounds). Those who did get it - it's a steal! I've never bought a fujitsu before but I've gotta say -- I'm fairly impressed! No complaints so far (well except that Windows 8 SUCKS but eh -- I'll get used to it with time). It is not thin like the newer ultra books but for this price -- it wasn't an issue for me.

Those considering other fujitsu laptops - I would definitely recommend it.
I've previously owned dell, samsung, and acer(never again!!) laptops.

The Kev Master found the same exact thing and is not too sure if he wants to stick with 8 but he'll give it a shot as he just installed a third party app for the start button.

He is not sure if putting in the SSD is all that necessary but since he has the memory he'll probably just stick it in.

Tmsmith616 01-03-2013 08:11 AM

I am thoroughly impressed with this laptop. I don't get what the **** is some people's problem. Too thick? This is a normal to slightly lighter then normal laptop. You want an ultrabook? Get an ultrabook. The rubber like exterior and the build quality in general of this laptop puts my y580 that I just bought to complete shame. Lenovo has no pride at all compared to this less then half Fujitsu. Granted it doesn't have the same specs by a long shot but build quality should still be way better on something twice as expensive.

Sound can be somewhat fixed. In the realtek cp it has a loudness leveling option... crank that baby up to 10 and the sound becomes not unbearably soft.

Right off the bat you need to adjust gesture controls too. Specifically the ones that are activated by sliding on the edge, those where driving me crazy during setup last night.

In my absolute most unreasonable dreams, this feature packed laptop would have a 1080p ips screeen and a backlit keyboard but the value of this laptop at this price makes me think this was one of last years best buys at $400.

Finally got mine in the mail yesterday. Seems like a zippy little computer. The one major drawback for me was the sound. It's very tinny sounding, and very quiet. I'm surprised that Fujitsu didn't pay the extra $5 to get some decent speakers on this. This can always be solved with a decent pair of computer speakers, (sadly for me I use my laptop on my bed, so it might not help me any). Maybe there's a clip on speaker somewhere I can buy? Who knows.

This is a bit of an upgrade for me, as I previously had an earlier generation i3.

Another downfall to this is the windows8. I'm not so much a fan of the tiles among other things. Even though it seems slightly quicker than windows7.

Overall a really good machine here for the price. I'd recommend it for the price alone along with the great specs.

Wondered if anyone else noticed that there are two 340 gb hard drive partitions listed. Is there actually two HDs or is it just split up into two parts? And 340x2 only equals 680gb, while it's supposed to be 750gb... I'm wanting to put an SSD in there. Thanks.

It only has one HDD of 750gb. It was partitioned into C: and D: of 340gb each that are visible. There are hidden partitions that consist of recovery files and factory restore in case you want to restore your system back to the factory config.....

You can remove optical drive and put SSD there....and still keep 750gb HDD. Amazon has the tray for SSD. I am trying to upgrade it when I get a decent priced SSD.

Also, how the heck can I change the inverted touchpad? Can't find anything in mouse properties...

Its been just long enough, I'm beginning to worry about the refund not coming in. Hows everyone else's rebate?
