Yea it's a good deal and a good drive. Someone can correct me if they have found it cheaper but I bought mine a few months ago on a FP deal and I paid more around $180 I believe.

I'm thinking about jumping on the 64GB 3.0 flash drive...I know it's not the best one out there but does anyone think it's an ok deal for the price?

I have five of these drives (in 128, 256, and 512GB configurations). I also have four samsung 830s (in 128 and 256GB).

In day-to-day operations, you wont tell the difference. The samsung performs slightly better when I couple it with a thunderbolt adapter. Some USB 3 controllers/enclosures, I've seen a very slight advantage but in day-to-day operations, I can't really tell. I get my 7 second boot times, 2 second Photoshop launches. I can copy 30GB files to and from SSDs in a minute and a half.

I'm running all the SSDs as boot OS.

My recommendation is to get the one with the best price currently.

Samsung 830 is out of stock (unless you can find stores that are still selling whatever they have left in stock) while 840 pro is expensive. Therefore, this is the next best thing.

ill throw in my two cents. I bought this earlier in the month at the same price its been great so far. I know people like to hear about long term reliability but i havent had any problems with it. I use it as my boot up drive and its insanely fast compared to my HDD.

great advice that all should follow regarding SSD. I have crucial or samsung SSDs as boot drives in the laptops in the household and is exactly as you say, day to day, can't tell the difference and really is just about buying at a good price cause either way, you will be happy in the end with whichever you get over using a standard HD :nod:

Proud owner of 2 of these (256GB), including one that this PC I'm typing on is currently using. Have had absolutely no problems with them. Bought one for my brother, and he had a few BSODs, but it seems that he updated the firmware and has had no problems since. These are a personal favorite (especially after having dealt with the early OCZ ones). I've been using one for about a year now, btw.

I have M4 and 830 drives in laptops and desktops - they perform the same. Buy whatever is on deal.

Have run 128gb for over 1 year as my base OS and gaming with all other apps installed on sata drive and storage on that drive as well. no complaints, make sure to update firmware.

pm to staples and use a 25 off coupon makes it 146 after tax. burn some rewards to make it even cheaper.

Only real difference I can see is the m4 is made in China and the Samsung is made in Korea. I own both and both are fast. Though in osx, there were moments when the m4 stutter. I have not see this on the Samsung. Personally I would get the made in Korea just so I don't give the Chinese too much support. : )

I bought the 128 GB version over a year ago. Solid on Win 7, with zero issues. Just bought the 512 GB version last week, finally got around to installing it on my MacBook Pro yesterday. Too early to talk about reliability.

The Crucial is slower on write than the Samsung Pro: slow write (Crucial: Up to 260 MB/s (SATA 6Gb/s)) vs the higher speed writers (Samsung Pro: Sustained Sequential Write: 520 MB/s). Unless it's for a SATA 6 system, it won't matter. Crucial rate very good, at least in return rates:

- Crucial 0.82% (against 0.8%)
- Intel 1.73% (against 0.1%)
- Corsair 2.93% (against 2.9%)
- OCZ 7.03% (against 4.2%)

This has been posted before in another thread but I feel the title does not mention anything about Compact Flash cards and will easily be missed by others. The price might be "right" for the capacity but you are getting a top of the line brand. Just two weeks ago, I got the Transcend 32GB from B&H and am already thinking of returning it.

A review here [photography-on-the.net] suggests that the 400x lexar professional lives up to its reputation.

I recommend visiting another site for getting speeds and then I normally do a price per GB for CF cards and then purchase. CF cards have historically been faster when it comes to real usage. However, I try to purchase 32GB or 16GB cards rather than the monsters because the smaller cards are normally faster.

Been wanting one, and seems like the worst amazon reviews just say it's slower than advertised. Some people say theirs died, which is typical for flash drives, but it does come with a three-year warranty.

Really need help guys! Got the intel 520 180GB for $139 (incl. tax) at BB. Question is, should I keep that drive or get this crucial with higher memory and return the intel to BB?
From what I am gathering, intel probably has slightly better reliability than crucial, you guys think that should be enough to justify keeping the intel?

The intel drive is probably nicer, but 76GB more for $20 is hard to argue.

That series of drives from intel is supposed to be quite good, but I imagine it would be hard to notice a difference in performance on the day to day.

From what I've read, the m4 as well as the 520 are both very reliable and you can't go wrong with either one. Also, any differences in speed are probably negligible in real life applications. I ended up choosing the crucial because you get more value with it.

Ah. It's the cheaper 840 that had the thread I saw previously and that uses TLC. From my cursory searching, it looks like the m4 does not use TLC, which is a good thing.

Just want to mention that my drive (m4 256GB) runs very well with the newest firmware 040H [crucial.com]. The version before it received horrendous reports, especially from users with UEFI BIOSs. The previous stable version was 000F. Relevant thread [crucial.com].

My observations exactly. M4 has been around for a long time (for an SSD) so the bugs are worked out and it has a very good controller in terms of garbage collection.

Speed isn't that important if your horse pulls out a gun and shoots itself halfway through the race. I bought the Samsung 830 on it's amazing deal a few months ago, it's still on a list of 3 drives I would buy over the Crucial M4 strictly based on them being slightly faster and as reliable as the Crucial M4. Whenever those drives aren't on sale I always suggest the M4 over anything that is because of it's reliability ratings. To find out what the other 3 drives on that short list are do some research because the top 5 suggested drives for reliability and speed don't change on any major forum or review site I've found.

The 64Gb CF card's serial number is LCF64G-400-1050 whilst on lexar website it is LCF64GCTBNA400 (link [lexar.com]). Any idea on what difference it makes?

Unless you just wake up from under a rock, the Sandisk Extreme, similar to Corsair Force GS and Muskin Enhance Chronos Deluxe, never got any issue because it was released after all of the firmware fixed. The Crucial M4 suffered a similar BSOD before Crucial released a firmware update to fix it couple weeks after.

Those reviews are a bit scary, compared to the typical ones I see for Crucial & Sammy.
