I have $52.95 in Amazon Software/Video Games credit. It is just a shame that it is mostly $5 coupons which don't stack. I don't think $5 off is really going to entice me to buy anything, seeing how the Steam sale is going on right now.

Amazon has beat or matched the Steam sale the entire time.

I suppose $5 could be interesting if Amazon matches Steam's price on an item and then the coupon stacks on top of that. But it would have to be a game on their editor's choice list. Doesn't sound hopeful, but I guess I'll wait and see.

I'm looking at a couple games to get that $5 coupon (Trine for $1.99 and Rayman Legends for $9.99) and a bunch of the reviewers are complaining about Securerom DRM. Is that really a big deal?

Some people are practically allergic to Securom. In my experience, though, it's not that bad. I'd definitely get the cheapest game possible, though.

Anyone know how Mass Effect 3 works on PC as far as making the important decisions from earlier games? I played ME 1 and 2 on console but will be playing 3 on PC. Have they included something like on Wii U where you get to make the most important decisions from the earlier games at the beginning of 3?

"Command and Conquer The Ultimate Collection" was $25 before without coupon, so that certainly sucks.

Too bad I got that one recently, but it sounds like it's going to be the best of deal of the bunch. Lets see if Amazon will slap a good price on Farcry 3 and Max Payne 3 this January.

From what I heard, in the past it was price matching that made the really good deals, not the original planned EC prices.

All I can say is that I have some of these $5 coupons and so far I don't see anything in the preview worth buying -- but I've already purchased a ton of Amazon's catalog already.

But if Amazon does run the Square Enix bundle again for $10 (I guess AC) and you don't have the games, that's an insta-buy. KoA might be tempting too if I didn't already own it since it includes the DLC @ $10, but it's worth pointing out that GMG had the standalone for less a month or so ago.

Also worth mentioning that it is the Origin version, which will make some people, like myself, pass on it. Great deal for some, but if you're like me (backlog of games), you might wait.

In talking with two different Amazonians, I was told (twice) that you can stack the $5 coupons.
When I go to purchase a game in January...probably the 1st day...if I cannot stack said coupons, I will be calling them again and getting it fixed.
Amazon has been great for me in the past, helping out with situations like this.
If the first person I talk to does not help, I will call back right away and try again until I find the right person for the job.

Now, all of this seems like a lot of work. So hopefully we will just be able to stack the $5 coupons and be happy. :nod:

Not going to work, it's never worked like that. They don't stack. There are no coupons to enter so no way to stack them. They're associated with your account.

Kingdoms of Amalur was a bust for 38 Studios, Rhode Island, and especially Curt Schilling, but it's a great game for $10 if it actually goes at the price. Terrific combat mechanics for a single player action RPG game and lots of areas to explore, I finished it back in the spring and it was well worth the firesale $18 price at the time.

There is no place to see the breakdown of the coupons however the best way that I have discovered is clicking "View Balance" at any of the Instant Video pages to view your total credit balance.


Also, does anyone know what the actually price of the Sims 3 Starter Pack is going to be? It is currently listed at almost 2x the price of the sum of the individual games in the set.

The only DLC I believe it comes with is Pinnacle Station for ME1. But for ME2 and ME3, you don't get any DLC

Hotline Miami for $2.49 is the only deal that is a slick deal right now, but I know if I bought it I'd never play it. Kingdoms of Amalur for $10 will be a good deal. I guess there's a few others that could be justified for getting just $5 off if you have no other good games to play. Does anyone think that Mass Effect 3 will go lower than this before the sale ends? $15 for the Collector's Edition still feels high to me, but I would like to play it this year.

I think it's unlikely, Steam never got Dragon Age 2 so I doubt ME3 will show up. They seem to be sticking to Origin for the newer Bioware games.

C'mon, Origin may suck but it generally works. Finished both ME3 and Amalur this year using it, DA-Origins, expansion, and DA2 and ME2 before that.

People that avoid buying EA games are missing out on some good stuff, yeah Origin is not as good as Steam but it's not that big of a deal to use it just like you use Steam; i.e., don't autoload it with Windows etc.

Many of these games were cheaper back in December - without any coupons - Amazon has raised the prices so you think you're getting a deal with their $5 off coupon.

I know that they were definitely cheaper, why? I bought many of them between Thanksgiving week and the end of December. Packages they put together for astounding prices. Especially the Paradox Packages, the Darksider Package, the Bioshock package - so many I lost track.

But I have $359.63 in Credits in my Amazon Digital Software Download Account - that gives you an idea of how many games I was able to buy.

And FYI - if you bought the BioShock package - heck if you bought any package - Amazon gave you a Coupon for EACH GAME in the package. So when I purchased the big Paradox Package that contained Crusader and about 12 DLCs - I received $65 in coupon credit - 13 games times $5 = 65 dollars. How can you beat that? Well, if they only stacked them......

Yeah, I've warmed up to Origin a bit, it's never going to be as good as Steam, but it is what it is. It's better than the half assed system Ubisoft has in place to be sure.

The only one the really adds to the story is Leviathan, Omega is pretty much just popcorn filler DLC, Leviathan should have been in the game out of the box.

Mass Effect 3's release and paid DLC just kind of shows EA's hand when it comes to dirty play in game releases. Crappy management, crappy company.

That's never going to happen at this point. Amalur is a good game, definitely worth the $10, just don't spend a lot of time on the side quests, they have "B" team dev staff written all over them. The main storyline is fun tho, and combat in the game is what other open world RPGs should aspire to.

I recommend the game, even with the Origin requirement. I bought it when it first came out and got around 75 hours out of it.

Speaking of Amalur, anyone know what kind of play time the DLC packs add to the game? They're still $10 each separately, which is dumb, since I could conceivably just buy the entire game again for $10, just wondering if the DLC is worth jumping into Amalur again.

Nevermind, I noticed they give you 3 separate keys, one for the game and 2 for each DLC. I went ahead and bought it, kept the DLC for myself and added the game to my son's Origin account. Smokin' deal.

It's been awhile since I played them, but each expansion pack took me maybe 5-8 hours each for main/side quests.

I waited forever for a version of ME2 that came with all of the DLC to be released. It never happened. Same with DA2. I doubt they'll release ME3 with all of the DLC, so most likely the best we're going to get is the deluxe edition with 1 DLC.

Actually, I had to make the call that I thought I would have to do. I talked with a person from Amazon, explained the situation, and they gave me $30 credit to be used on my next game purchase. Done. There was nothing in the "fine print" that I could find, and it took him over 10 minutes of looking to find something. Since I was told from talking with earlier emplyees of Amazon that the stacking should work, he gave me the credit. I hope other find this useful.

A good 60% of worthwhile Slickdeals are about taking advantage of holes in the system, you get one, and you throw it back. :shake:

Add to that, not guaranteed, but there are reports that people are getting the extra dlc that was supposed to be only free until the end of december.

IMO this game is already F2P in less than 6 months. It already proves that the game is already not good. Not worth money and they should just open a cash shop which they eventually will like any other F2P mmos.

I'm not saying the game is good. I haven't played it myself. But for $17 with no subscription fee, I'm willing to give it a try. I'm sure I'll get $17 worth of entertainment from it.

It'll probably go F2P with purchasable DLC's and a cash shop in another month or two. They are just squeezing cash out of buying the client right now.

For $13 AC each, I picked up a copy for myself and my gf. My gf and I have been talking about starting an MMO. The nice thing about this F2P game is it looks fun for a bit and I won't be getting into hardcore raiding like in WoW. Once we do most of everything we can choose to continue by picking up the DLC for extra raids or just stop and move on.

It always seems like people who complain about new MMOs are looking for that replacement for WoW that they can play for 10+ years, with a huge player base. That's just not going to happen. Especially with the MMO saturation and the various F2P games out there. WoW is going to drop in it's subscribers and everyone will be fragmented to various games. More than likely it'll be people picking up MMOs for 1-6 months then getting the next MMO that comes out, repeat.

Mass Effect came with: "Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station" (my Origin client doesn't show this so I assume that it's either baked into the game download like a GOTY edition or Origin doesn't sell original ME DLC)

I bought BF3 Pre. Edi. for $31 with this deal/coupon/credit but now I wish I had another for the deal with Max Payne 3. I really want that game and it would have been freakin awesome to get it for $10...frickin. There just wasnt anything for me to buy before...damn it.

I read a review of the DLC have major GAME KILLING bugs. Did you play with the DLC or experience any problems?

I've played since launch and will say the game is good. :) $17 with no required subscription is a steal... The Secret World rocks.

I would also definitely recommend Hotline Miami for $2.49, the game is well worth it. I bought it at $4.99 + $5 promo coupon and after playing through it now (and in the middle of going back and A+'ing everything) I almost feel bad for not paying the full $9.99 price. ;) Can't wait for the sequel!

i mean, the story is crap so far, the stadium level is awesomely dumb... its a very weird game..
its like max payne is a terminator in this game, and it makes it unreal... and his darn partner.... he plain drives you nuts... but i cant stop playing for some reason...

I picked up Dark Souls last week. Awesome game. It's hard to explain. When you hear about dying 200 times, you may say "Oh, I don't want that frustration", but after playing, you'll be hooked.

It is an extremely well developed single player game. For free, I would get it in a heartbeat. BUT, it isn't part of the editor's choice, is it? If not, then the coupon won't work.

From what I've seen/heard, Spec Ops has a great story but the shooting and gameplay mechanics are fairly similar to other games (Gears of War comes to mind). I'm a huge fan of Gears, so that doesn't bother me at all. I'm also not bothered that it's not a "CoD killer". :rolleyes:

FYI, BDtS for ME1 is free, but Pinnacle Station was a few bucks. The ME2 DLCs included are part of the deluxe edition of ME2. For ME3, did you get From the Ashes DLC? That's part of the deluxe too. Otherwise, you have to buy it.

Really? Man, I bought this game just because of the raging boner everyone seems to have for it. I've played it an hour, and it's pretty cool. A fun, $2 indie game, IMO. The kind of noncommittal, bite-sized game that is nice to kill a bit of time...An iPhone game.

I believe you're referring to the Mass Effect Collection, which is only the first two in the series, not the trilogy.

Once you install the fan-patch (takes like 5 minutes), it's great. The only problems out of the box was the graphics resolution was limited, and mouse and keyboard sucked. The fan patch fixed the graphics so it looks great, and I think there's another patch for mouse/keyboard, but I recommend just using a wired xbox controller. I think you can use a PS3 too, but you need some kind of program to make that work. Definitely the most challenging game I've played in a long time. but the atmosphere of the game is unbelievable.

Before you even start ME3, you should buy the From Ashes and Leviathan DLC. They will basically turn a game that you end scratching your head at the end on into a worthwhile experience.

Wasn't intentional. Searched "2012 Editors Choice" and nothing relevant came up for the aforementioned games.

I like the story...it seems to be somewhat of a mess, but in the end everything wraps up and it's got a good story. The stages get progressively harder, the amount of masks and powerups add some depth, and the 'one more try' aspect of the game helps out a lot.

I do like the music (I know some people don't), so that's the cherry on top for me. It's still an indie game, it's still not a 40hr grind, but it's one of the most fun games I've played all year. It was 'new' enough for me; being 34 (almost 35) and playing games for more than 25 years....I've seen damn near everything, so if it's something fairly new and original, I'm a fan of it. Hotline Miami fits that mold, as does FTL (one of my other favorites of the year). :woot: It's a shame that two games made by only a few people each that sold for peanuts are more enjoyable (to me) and more worth buying than a lot of the major releases that came out this year. But hey, that's JMHO. ;)

I'm not saying I don't love these type of Indie games - I was just surprised to hear people talking about it like it is a huge meaningful gaming experience. You added a bit of clarification to that love I keep seeing.

EDIT: Interesting, as I typed out my response to you, it occurred to me that maybe the game does not require that you use a controller. I went in and tried again with house and keyboard, and it's much more fun now - less hectic feeling.

I've only played it with KB+M even though I do own a wired 360 pad for my PC. I haven't tried the controller yet, but I can see where the hectic nature of the game might not work so well on a controller. ;)
