Is there a list somewhere of all the content that will give you the $5 coupon?

Every nonfree PC downloadable game Amazon sells will give you a coupon.

jmccorm 12-28-2012 07:19 PM

I have $52.95 in Amazon Software/Video Games credit. It is just a shame that it is mostly $5 coupons which don't stack. I don't think $5 off is really going to entice me to buy anything, seeing how the Steam sale is going on right now.

Amazon has beat or matched the Steam sale the entire time.

I suppose $5 could be interesting if Amazon matches Steam's price on an item and then the coupon stacks on top of that. But it would have to be a game on their editor's choice list. Doesn't sound hopeful, but I guess I'll wait and see.

PS: I'm a big fan of Amazon and Steam both!

AllWhacked 12-28-2012 08:01 PM

Looks like they also added the Absolutely Great Square Pack [amazon.com] which went for $10 when it was on sale a few months ago. It's be a killer buy for $5 after coupon for:

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Augmented Edition
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link DLC
Hitman: Blood Money
Just Cause 2
Just Cause
Supreme Commander 2
The Last Remnant
Quantum Conundrum

Don't get too excited. Tony has stated quite explicitly that they're never running that bundle again.

Zhel.Rin 12-28-2012 09:35 PM

You could add Dark Souls [amazon.com] for $18($13) since it's suppose to stay 18 until the 5th, and is also on the editor's list.

This is the current complete list of 2012 Editor's Choice Digital Games (aside from stuff listed above). They're adding stuff to the list everyday and will continue to add more to it in January.

And note that the prices listed now aren't necessarily the prices they'll have in January, but all of those will accept the $5 coupons.

Ah, ok.

I'm looking at a couple games to get that $5 coupon (Trine for $1.99 and Rayman Legends for $9.99) and a bunch of the reviewers are complaining about Securerom DRM. Is that really a big deal?

Some people are practically allergic to Securom. In my experience, though, it's not that bad. I'd definitely get the cheapest game possible, though.

slickgrapes 12-28-2012 10:56 PM

Walking Dead is currently at 12.49...would be slick @ 7.49 (5 off coupon). I'm guessing it'll go back to normal price though before the sale? Anyone know?

Can't we just have the after coupon price? That's basically the deal and it would make it a lot less confusing. I'm sure people without the coupon can do the math.

sixty4bit 12-28-2012 11:13 PM

Anyone know how Mass Effect 3 works on PC as far as making the important decisions from earlier games? I played ME 1 and 2 on console but will be playing 3 on PC. Have they included something like on Wii U where you get to make the most important decisions from the earlier games at the beginning of 3?

satanslover 12-28-2012 11:18 PM

"Command and Conquer The Ultimate Collection" was $25 before without coupon, so that certainly sucks.

"NFS: MW" was $20 before coupon previously, so that also sucks.

Castaa 12-29-2012 01:33 AM

Lowest price yet for Dark Souls. Going to probably get it at the $13 discount.

Yeah, you're right. They'll probably jack up the prices like they did last year. At least that's what happened with the newish titles last time.

Too bad I got that one recently, but it sounds like it's going to be the best of deal of the bunch. Lets see if Amazon will slap a good price on Farcry 3 and Max Payne 3 this January.

So far, from the previews it looks like they've been raising the prices to make the deals just ok rather than really good so I'm guessing no.

xveganrox 12-29-2012 02:12 AM

Dark Souls for $13 is the lowest price so far AFAIK - TU for that :)

From what I heard, in the past it was price matching that made the really good deals, not the original planned EC prices.

All I can say is that I have some of these $5 coupons and so far I don't see anything in the preview worth buying -- but I've already purchased a ton of Amazon's catalog already.

But if Amazon does run the Square Enix bundle again for $10 (I guess AC) and you don't have the games, that's an insta-buy. KoA might be tempting too if I didn't already own it since it includes the DLC @ $10, but it's worth pointing out that GMG had the standalone for less a month or so ago.

It's going to be added to the list on 1/1 I believe, should definitely qualify. Amazon Tony confirmed over on CAG, have no worries.

I might get Mass Effect 1 & 2 now while they are still cheaper then buy the 3 Deluxe after.. should still be ~$25. Hmmmmm...

Also worth mentioning that it is the Origin version, which will make some people, like myself, pass on it. Great deal for some, but if you're like me (backlog of games), you might wait.

ydkair 12-29-2012 03:46 AM

In talking with two different Amazonians, I was told (twice) that you can stack the $5 coupons.
When I go to purchase a game in January...probably the 1st day...if I cannot stack said coupons, I will be calling them again and getting it fixed.
Amazon has been great for me in the past, helping out with situations like this.
If the first person I talk to does not help, I will call back right away and try again until I find the right person for the job.

Now, all of this seems like a lot of work. So hopefully we will just be able to stack the $5 coupons and be happy.

*fingers crossed*

Not going to work, it's never worked like that. They don't stack. There are no coupons to enter so no way to stack them. They're associated with your account.

Of course I'm sure you can get Amazon to give you an extra $5 credit, but that's just Amazon CS, and basically it's begging.

In summary: you're dreaming.

darktemplar 12-29-2012 04:39 AM

why is it mostly EA games? -_-

steelwillj 12-29-2012 05:02 AM

The trick is to wait it out, I'm sure they'll try to lure people up front with luke warm deals, maybe they'll have something more exciting later, maybe at the end of the month.

Kingdoms of Amalur was a bust for 38 Studios, Rhode Island, and especially Curt Schilling, but it's a great game for $10 if it actually goes at the price. Terrific combat mechanics for a single player action RPG game and lots of areas to explore, I finished it back in the spring and it was well worth the firesale $18 price at the time.

Thanks worked great. For $0.49 I saved $5 on The Secret World which I will purchase 1/1/2013 for $17.99 ($12.99 after $5 Editor's Choice coupon)

As posted by the OP and confirmed by Tony at CAG, they are going to add Kingdoms of Amalur to the 2012 choice list on 1/1/13.

On a side note, for those who got it during the Pre-Black Friday sale, I successfully complained to customer support how it was advertised that the weapons DLC would be included in the Gamespot video and they credited by $5 for my trouble.

There is no place to see the breakdown of the coupons however the best way that I have discovered is clicking "View Balance" at any of the Instant Video pages to view your total credit balance.

Also, does anyone know what the actually price of the Sims 3 Starter Pack is going to be? It is currently listed at almost 2x the price of the sum of the individual games in the set.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition $12.99 AC @ Amazon

Amazon has Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition for $17.99, which can be brought down to $12.99 by anyone with a Editors Choice credit. (Amazon has been giving these out like crazy the past month at least)

This is the cheapest DS: PtDE has ever been. This version redeems on Steam and utilizes Games for Windows Live.

realwords 01-01-2013 12:07 AM

Deal is live.

jameshwin 01-01-2013 12:14 AM

Yeah, coupon works but some of the games on the list aren't on sale yet.

steven88 01-01-2013 12:16 AM

yeah coupons work but most of the EA deals aren't live yet

Tony @ CAG said the prices should flip within 1 hour....so keep an eye out if you're still gonna be up!

and Hotline Miami won't be getting any cheaper this month...so I'll just bite

TheGeneralCS 01-01-2013 12:32 AM

is this live Ive bought 2 codes, wanting to do third but it just asks to reauth no way to confirm that it will not charge the regular $18

nvm it worked, I was debating even putting this up at $18 but didnt want it to run out, but

jameshwin 01-01-2013 12:48 AM

Prices have updated. Well at least for the Kingdoms of Amalur bundle.

Hotline Miami 2.49 Amazon with $5 Promo credit

If you were able to pick up the $5 Promo Credit from Amazon....you can use it towards Hotline Miami which is $7.49 - 5.00 = $2.49

http://www.amazon.com/Devolver-Di...B009GKT2Y0

Yes, I know this was mixed in those massive-bulk threads with all the games listed, but after looking through them this is one of the only "good" deals. Thought I would save everyone the trouble that didn't see those posts a few days ago.

slickgrapes 01-01-2013 12:58 AM

Bought and can confirm that it will give you a Steam Key.

steven88 01-01-2013 01:05 AM

prices are now live on everything front page

How to hack amazon servers to combine the coupon? I have $125 of $5 coupon.

satanslover 01-01-2013 01:48 AM

Amazon has managed to make me buy less games than I otherwise would this year. The deals largely suck.

yes, you had to purchase a game or DLC in the month of December

One $5 code per account right?

If so I am torn between the BF3 Premium or DS:PtDE :(

I think I'm going to pick up hotline Miami and the 2k shooter pack.

No, you got 1 per however many games you bought in Nov/Dec. You can only use 1 at a time though.

Castaa 01-01-2013 02:57 AM

In 4 Hotline Miami for $2.50 and Dark Souls for $12.99. :)

Last year the best deals were available at the start of the offer, then they ran out of keys and substituted other games. Then sometimes the original titles would reappear; or not.

Hope you're right and they surprise us down the line with some more interesting, cheaper titles.

Hotline Miami for $2.49 is the only deal that is a slick deal right now, but I know if I bought it I'd never play it. Kingdoms of Amalur for $10 will be a good deal. I guess there's a few others that could be justified for getting just $5 off if you have no other good games to play. Thankfully, I have a huge backlog from the last few months of great deals and either have these games or have seen them for cheaper.

Hi guys! Happy new year!
I would like to buy Kingdom of Amalur Complete Bundle on Amazon, but I don't know if the Origin Key is region locked or not. Can anyone help me?

DS_slick 01-01-2013 05:51 AM

Bioshock 1/2 bundle was briefly free (after coupon) when this deal went up, that was nice.

Nyrmetros, if you didn't buy the 2k bundles yet those will return tomorrow and in the deal. All will be the same price except Bioshock, which will be raised to $10. Spec Ops and the Darkness II will also be $7.50 ($2.50 after coupon) individually. NBA 2k13 will be $10 after coupon. Source for all that is the guy who sets the prices on Steam posting elsewhere.

There is no coupon code to pass around. It is linked to your Amazon account.

soulrver 01-01-2013 08:31 AM

Does anyone think that Mass Effect 3 will go lower than this before the sale ends? $15 for the Collector's Edition still feels high to me, but I would like to play it this year.

I think it's unlikely, Steam never got Dragon Age 2 so I doubt ME3 will show up. They seem to be sticking to Origin for the newer Bioware games.

GTFan 01-01-2013 08:40 AM

C'mon, Origin may suck but it generally works. Finished both ME3 and Amalur this year using it, DA-Origins, expansion, and DA2 and ME2 before that.

People that avoid buying EA games are missing out on some good stuff, yeah Origin is not as good as Steam but it's not that big of a deal to use it just like you use Steam; i.e., don't autoload it with Windows etc.

Korian 01-01-2013 08:56 AM

Many of these games were cheaper back in December - without any coupons - Amazon has raised the prices so you think you're getting a deal with their $5 off coupon.

I know that they were definitely cheaper, why? I bought many of them between Thanksgiving week and the end of December. Packages they put together for astounding prices. Especially the Paradox Packages, the Darksider Package, the Bioshock package - so many I lost track.

But I have $359.63 in Credits in my Amazon Digital Software Download Account - that gives you an idea of how many games I was able to buy.

And FYI - if you bought the BioShock package - heck if you bought any package - Amazon gave you a Coupon for EACH GAME in the package. So when I purchased the big Paradox Package that contained Crusader and about 12 DLCs - I received $65 in coupon credit - 13 games times $5 = 65 dollars. How can you beat that? Well, if they only stacked them......

Korian (wishing Amazon would Stack his $359.63 in Digital Software Credits....)

Slomo4shO 01-01-2013 08:59 AM

All of the 2k bundles are no longer available.

Slomo -

I checked (had to search my emails and add everything up (Amazon doesn't make it simple to find out what and where the credits come from) -

this is what I had -

$85 in Amazon's online MMO games -

$54.63 in expired 2K games (I used some before they expired, but the remaining credits stay there for some reason),

$220 - the rest are $5 credits on Editor's Choice games -

I seriously doubt I'll be buying 44 separate games - and it's too bad I can't give the coupons away to other SD'ers, since I'm not going to use them....

its EA's Digital Content system (Origin) still a loophole riddled mess or did they finally fix it? I'd really like to try KoA now that its a complete pack.

Yeah, I've warmed up to Origin a bit, it's never going to be as good as Steam, but it is what it is. It's better than the half assed system Ubisoft has in place to be sure.

Nathan0490 01-01-2013 10:16 AM

FANTASTIC PRICE on BF3 premium. Highly recommended.

Krakn3Dfx 01-01-2013 10:16 AM

Either this sale is pretty lame, or I just own too many games already.

I keep going back and forth over The Secret World now that it's free to play tho.

jonjonk 01-01-2013 10:23 AM

I keep on going back and forth over kingdom of amalur. I dont think it will ever be cheaper than $10 for the complete collection. what's keeping me back is origin. I know the service isn't too bad, as I already have 2 games on origin. But i would rather have a game on steam than origin.

Nathan0490 01-01-2013 10:25 AM

Got the 2K Crazy Action pack as well for $5.00.

I've heard and read some pretty good things on TSW. If it's your type of game snag it :).

kusanagiz 01-01-2013 10:38 AM

it seems like the ME3 Digital Deluxe version does not come w/ Leviathan and the Omega DLC. Looks like I'm going to wait until the FULL DD version comes out.

bobbyg27 01-01-2013 10:39 AM

Bought Hotline Miami ($2.50! Awesome) and the 2K Crazy Action pack pretty much solely for Borderlands GOTY at $5.

May also buy that Absolutely Great Square pack if that goes live, even though I have most of those games.

Dark Souls for $13 is an amazing deal! I'd buy if I didn't already have on console :)

The only one the really adds to the story is Leviathan, Omega is pretty much just popcorn filler DLC, Leviathan should have been in the game out of the box.

Mass Effect 3's release and paid DLC just kind of shows EA's hand when it comes to dirty play in game releases. Crappy management, crappy company.

That's never going to happen at this point. Amalur is a good game, definitely worth the $10, just don't spend a lot of time on the side quests, they have "B" team dev staff written all over them. The main storyline is fun tho, and combat in the game is what other open world RPGs should aspire to.

I recommend the game, even with the Origin requirement. I bought it when it first came out and got around 75 hours out of it.

Krakn3Dfx 01-01-2013 10:55 AM

Speaking of Amalur, anyone know what kind of play time the DLC packs add to the game? They're still $10 each separately, which is dumb, since I could conceivably just buy the entire game again for $10, just wondering if the DLC is worth jumping into Amalur again.

Nevermind, I noticed they give you 3 separate keys, one for the game and 2 for each DLC. I went ahead and bought it, kept the DLC for myself and added the game to my son's Origin account. Smokin' deal.

It's been awhile since I played them, but each expansion pack took me maybe 5-8 hours each for main/side quests.

I waited forever for a version of ME2 that came with all of the DLC to be released. It never happened. Same with DA2. I doubt they'll release ME3 with all of the DLC, so most likely the best we're going to get is the deluxe edition with 1 DLC.

In summary: you're dreaming.

Well, if I was dreaming then getting $30 worth of stacked coupons would not have worked. Hmmm... they seem to work. :)

Actually, I had to make the call that I thought I would have to do. I talked with a person from Amazon, explained the situation, and they gave me $30 credit to be used on my next game purchase. Done. There was nothing in the "fine print" that I could find, and it took him over 10 minutes of looking to find something. Since I was told from talking with earlier emplyees of Amazon that the stacking should work, he gave me the credit. I hope other find this useful.

Screw that, if I was going to take the time to get one over on The Man, I ain't going to give it back.

A good 60% of worthwhile Slickdeals are about taking advantage of holes in the system, you get one, and you throw it back. :shake:

Add to that, not guaranteed, but there are reports that people are getting the extra dlc that was supposed to be only free until the end of december.

ImYoungxD 01-01-2013 03:09 PM

IMO this game is already F2P in less than 6 months. It already proves that the game is already not good. Not worth money and they should just open a cash shop which they eventually will like any other F2P mmos.

Their site is better than Amazon's deal. Amazon's deal does not come with the initiate pack.

Actually yes. You can buy Mass Effect 3 right now for 9.99 (with $5 coupon) or 6.99 (with $3 coupon that you have). Mass effect 1 and 2 go on sale several times a year for 4.99 each. That would bring your total to 16.99.

I'm not saying the game is good. I haven't played it myself. But for $17 with no subscription fee, I'm willing to give it a try. I'm sure I'll get $17 worth of entertainment from it.

It'll probably go F2P with purchasable DLC's and a cash shop in another month or two. They are just squeezing cash out of buying the client right now.

guy121 01-01-2013 03:41 PM

For $13 AC each, I picked up a copy for myself and my gf. My gf and I have been talking about starting an MMO. The nice thing about this F2P game is it looks fun for a bit and I won't be getting into hardcore raiding like in WoW. Once we do most of everything we can choose to continue by picking up the DLC for extra raids or just stop and move on.

It always seems like people who complain about new MMOs are looking for that replacement for WoW that they can play for 10+ years, with a huge player base. That's just not going to happen. Especially with the MMO saturation and the various F2P games out there. WoW is going to drop in it's subscribers and everyone will be fragmented to various games. More than likely it'll be people picking up MMOs for 1-6 months then getting the next MMO that comes out, repeat.

I ended up buying the trilogy with a coupon for $24.99.

Mass Effect came with: "Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station" (my Origin client doesn't show this so I assume that it's either baked into the game download like a GOTY edition or Origin doesn't sell original ME DLC)

Mass Effect 2 came with these: http://i.imgur.com/MVxTe.png (quite a bit but not everything)

Mass Effect 3 came with these: http://i.imgur.com/X0a9V.png (not even sure what this Trilogy Bonus Content is)

The DLC included does make the trilogy worth buying over the individual games.

Buy to play != free to play.

Calling this free to play would be like saying any other multiplayer game you just have to buy is "free to play" because it doesn't have a subscription.

In for Spec Ops: The Line for $2.49 after coupon. Sweet deal, thanks + rep OP!
I would also definitely recommend Hotline Miami for $2.49, the game is well worth it. I bought it at $4.99 + $5 promo coupon and after playing through it now (and in the middle of going back and A+'ing everything) I almost feel bad for not paying the full $9.99 price. ;) Can't wait for the sequel!

Really? It seemed logical to you that this was a con and no one's mentioned it in 170+ posts? Your mind went there instead of "I made a mistake"?

Last night, I went for The Secret World and I was able to get the DLC for free (for those still on the fence). YMMV, of course.

scrapplejoe 01-02-2013 08:12 AM

Im playing Max Payne 3 now.... this game is hilarious goofy good dumb..
i mean, the story is crap so far, the stadium level is awesomely dumb... its a very weird game..
its like max payne is a terminator in this game, and it makes it unreal... and his darn partner.... he plain drives you nuts... but i cant stop playing for some reason...

Saboth 01-02-2013 08:12 AM

I picked up Dark Souls last week. Awesome game. It's hard to explain. When you hear about dying 200 times, you may say "Oh, I don't want that frustration", but after playing, you'll be hooked.

It is an extremely well developed single player game. For free, I would get it in a heartbeat. BUT, it isn't part of the editor's choice, is it? If not, then the coupon won't work.

From what I've seen/heard, Spec Ops has a great story but the shooting and gameplay mechanics are fairly similar to other games (Gears of War comes to mind). I'm a huge fan of Gears, so that doesn't bother me at all. I'm also not bothered that it's not a "CoD killer".
I'm a fan of TotalBiscuit and his 'WTF is....' vids so I'll let him do that work for me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNrsT57Xnq8
That'll give you a fair idea of what single player is like. The game does have multiplayer as well, if you're so inclined.

Here's another video worth watching on Spec Ops: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/epis...ine-part-1

I didn't really care much for Darkness (I), so I didn't have any desire for Darkness II.

Once you install the fan-patch (takes like 5 minutes), it's great. The only problems out of the box was the graphics resolution was limited, and mouse and keyboard sucked. The fan patch fixed the graphics so it looks great, and I think there's another patch for mouse/keyboard, but I recommend just using a wired xbox controller. I think you can use a PS3 too, but you need some kind of program to make that work. Definitely the most challenging game I've played in a long time. but the atmosphere of the game is unbelievable.

As far as I can tell, you don't get From Ashes with the Trilogy.

Which is BS, it's pretty much essential for the game IMO, along with Leviathan.

Before you even start ME3, you should buy the From Ashes and Leviathan DLC. They will basically turn a game that you end scratching your head at the end on into a worthwhile experience.

I like the story...it seems to be somewhat of a mess, but in the end everything wraps up and it's got a good story. The stages get progressively harder, the amount of masks and powerups add some depth, and the 'one more try' aspect of the game helps out a lot.

I do like the music (I know some people don't), so that's the cherry on top for me. It's still an indie game, it's still not a 40hr grind, but it's one of the most fun games I've played all year. It was 'new' enough for me; being 34 (almost 35) and playing games for more than 25 years....I've seen damn near everything, so if it's something fairly new and original, I'm a fan of it. Hotline Miami fits that mold, as does FTL (one of my other favorites of the year). :woot: It's a shame that two games made by only a few people each that sold for peanuts are more enjoyable (to me) and more worth buying than a lot of the major releases that came out this year. But hey, that's JMHO. ;)

And I like your opinion. Thanks for giving it. I've been considering trying FTL also.

I'm not saying I don't love these type of Indie games - I was just surprised to hear people talking about it like it is a huge meaningful gaming experience. You added a bit of clarification to that love I keep seeing.

And hell yes, it gets harder. Esp since I'm not too good with dual sticks..

EDIT: Interesting, as I typed out my response to you, it occurred to me that maybe the game does not require that you use a controller. I went in and tried again with house and keyboard, and it's much more fun now - less hectic feeling.

I've only played it with KB+M even though I do own a wired 360 pad for my PC. I haven't tried the controller yet, but I can see where the hectic nature of the game might not work so well on a controller. ;)
