Heard this one was buggy or something. Not as good as the non-hd version but the video quality does look better if you check out the youtube video comparison.

paulhill 01-01-2013 05:53 PM

Is it really helpful?

where do you see reviews for this? This is brand new. I already have a few Foscams and want to add one more.

Apparently it was another HD previous version(Foscam FI9820W Indoor Pan and Tilt Megapixel H.264 Wireless IP Camera). Maybe they fixed the problems reviews here [amazon.com]

that's what i thought. I have one h.264 foscam and it is totally different (setup wise) from the 8910s i have. The picture quality is better but the software is totally different. I can not add it in a multiview look with the other cams. However, you can in blueIris. Hopefully this one will be easier to set up. we shall see......

psilver 01-01-2013 06:17 PM

I got burned with the FI9820W. I had a hard time returning that one. Never again shall I buy anything that doesn't have a solid review. I own a couple of FI8910W and I love them. It would be nice to go HD but I can wait.

I almost got one of those ( FI9820W ) but see the reviews on it. I'm going to give this one a go. This will give me 6cams, thus completing my view in IPCamViewer ( i hate having one blank spot )..ha

oarfan24 01-01-2013 06:58 PM

I need updated improved audio over the 8910s that I own, are there reviews for this camera. I'm thinking about baby monitor possibility (8910 video is fine but audio terrible)

riiken 01-01-2013 07:14 PM

Thanks! I've been eyeing this since it came out. Repped.

Cerocool 01-01-2013 07:51 PM

I don't think there are any reviews on the thing yet since it was just released Dec 28th. I really want to try it and see if its worth the extra $50 for the HD and H.264. Actually this thing is 2x the price of the 9810's if you catch them on sale for ~$65.

+1 I got burned by Foscam.us when they told me they would refund my ebay purchase but on day 61(after I could not leave any feedback) they refused to refund.
Regardless, Foscams, overall, are not very good cameras for security but do fit the bill if you just want to check up on the kids/house once in a while. If you want good picture and don't need pan tilt or wireless, go with Dahua. You can get their 2100 cams which are 1.3 megapixel, and POE for about 130-170 depending on the reseller. I ran cat5 and installed these around the exterior of the house and could not be more please. Solid, reliable, and the picture is perfect.

One sweet feature this has is the SD recording / builtin DVR. I have a super old microseven camera at a condo in colorado and I'm thousands of miles away 75% of the year. So the microseven has done well with the on board DVR etc.. but would be nice to get a wider field of view and HD. We will see, hope is fairly solid.

In for one..rep!

Why SD and not a microSD slot?

Also, in a completely silent environment, could anyone comment how noisy these cameras are when panning and zooming?
Say for instance to follow an intruder's movements around the room or a space without alerting him to the presence of the camera when using it to pan.

I ordered one and will do a review.

screen shots from IPCamViewer on my HTC Evo 4g LTE as well as BlueIris software.

Note only one of my cams are wired (cam1) the rest are all wireless. Cam5 is the h.264 cam. All cams are set with motion detection. Images are emailed as well as FTP'd to my image hosting site upon detection. Cam5 has the built in SD slot and it records images as well as video. So far it seems like an 8gb card holds about 4-5 days. I will get a bigger card for these cams ( Cam5 and the soon to be Cam6). I backup the cards when full to an external hard drive.

The FI8918E is a PoE camera. Or you could just get a PoE splitter for any non-PoE camera.

Can't speak for this new one, but I have pretty much every other model. The motors are pretty loud. If its' quiet, everyone will hear the motor moving. The even wider angle lens and DVR function on this one are tempting. But like the others have said, I'm waiting for some solid reviews.

LasVegasLocal 01-02-2013 11:24 AM

IMHO best to let them sell a ton of cameras and work out the bugs before buying.

As *Foscam's track record has proven in the past *let the public do the trouble shooting then when we get around to it we will see if we can fix it*

Will check out the Foscam booth at CES in a few day's but have learned the hard way too many times... Definitely best to wait on new releases.

*Have also been considering Blue Iris and if somebody has a discount code that is more than 15% would be much appreciated! ;)

1994MGoBlue 01-02-2013 12:21 PM

Unhappy FI9820w owner

Wow, so it looks like I got screwed without so much as a kiss from Foscam. I'm sure others are in the same boat.

I bought the FI9820w - it wasn't great but I hung on to it hoping that some firmware updates would help the situation. The release of this FI9821w and the removal of the FI9820w pretty much confirms that the FI9820w is a lost cause - I question what firmware updates it'll ever see, etc. I am hoping Foscam.us steps up and offers us some kind of trade-in/trade-up program as a "thanks" for being beta-testers on a dead piece of hardware.

I have the non-HD version, 8910, and it is nearly silent. Only if I am right up on the camera do I hear it. In my opinion, I do not think an intruder would ever hear it. You do hear the click of the IR filter when it engages or disengages.

+1 on waiting before buying anything foscam. Blue Iris is well worth the price (even at full value). I have it running at the office and home and the software is superb. Its stable and loaded with tons of features. Uber customizable. I like that it can email a 10 second clip to me on motion detection. If you have an iphone (I don't) and install the blue iris app you can enable push video that sends you an immediate notification on motion then gives you the option to watch it. The developer (ken) says that the droid app should be available in a few months or so. I use BI and IPcamviewer by Robert chou for my droid. Check out cam-it.org which is an independent board dedicated to BI users.

Sure. Yeah, trackit was a great idea for an add on to blue iris(it allows you to set your pan tilt camera to follow the motion) ....but if you think about it, if you have two wide angle cameras you really don't need it and can probably get a better result in terms of coverage. The cost of good megapixel cameras have dropped significantly so its no longer a huge factor. BI is great for using older cams together with the newer ones as they become available allowing you to mix and match virtually any camera on the market.
As a side note, for work, I sometimes need to review surveillance video taken at big box stores and their footage is horrible compared to what I can do for 1/20th the cost.

vtphilk 01-07-2013 05:42 AM

Uggh..I purchased this one after seeing the email deal and already regretting it. Maybe I got a bum camera but mine won't even get an IP from my router. I have tried everything and it will not showup on the net. Bought straight from foscam so going to try and call into their support but not a good start.

I then saw all the crap on the forums about this camera and starting to regret my decision.

http://foscam.us/forum/fi9821w-is...67-10.html

Hopefully they work out the kinks by March when I go out to my condo where I wanted to replace a aging microseven camera with this guy.

Ryokokyutto 01-07-2013 07:28 PM

I wouldn't wait for technical support, by the time they do anything, it will be already too late to return it.

Also got burned badly by purchasing the FI9820W - still no firmware updates after 5 months... and they even discontinued the FI9820W. I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same thing with the FI9821W, although it sounds like most of the issues listed on their forum can be fixed with firmware... not sure how long you might be waiting until they actually release new firmware (or even if they fix half of the items listed) or if they come out with a new camera model before then.

Any issues so far? i see the issues on the foscam forum on their site.

i just got mine yesterday and i was messing with it.

The only problem i had with it was it wasn't motion recording but then i factory reset the camera and it works now. Wifi via wireless N works great and was easy to set up.

The image quality isn't very good for being a megapixel camera, i wish i just gotten 2 Fi8910w instead of this for the price.

Also the only app i found that works with this camera is ip cam viewer.

I'm currently using the SD option to record the motion detection and it's working great. the browser play back is pretty good too.

GoZO 01-11-2013 01:20 PM

I returned mine today. It has way too many bugs to be worked out. I did not want to miss the return period and be stuck with it. As much as I wanted the HD, I will wait.

Firmware update coming in Feb according to Foscam: http://foscam.us/forum/new-firmwa...t4146.html.

Let's hope they fix this issues.

http://foscam.us/products/foscam-...amera.html

Firmware Fixes / Issues Resolved:

Updated Features:

- Added Start-Up options within the Pan & Tilt Settings page. This
page allows the same functionality as older indoor MJPEG models,
where you can set the camera to boot to a preset, disable the start-up
pan/tilt, or allow it to center upon rebooting.

- Adjusted certain video parameters to increase the clarity of video.
Also added a new 4M stream which improves the video quality. This
stream was made default. The 2M stream is still available in cases
where bandwidth issues arise.

- Disabled the Foscam DDNS by default; this was done as a security
precaution. To use the DDNS you will have to manually enable it by
going to the DDNS Settings page.

- Added the camera name and alarm timing on alarm e-mail subject lines.
This prevents the alarms from being stacked into multiple e-mails on
certain providers like G-mail. This was also done due to some end-users
receiving the e-mail in their spam folders.

- Added the ability to scan up to 100 wireless networks and show them
in the wireless network list. Wireless networks are now sorted by signal
strength, so the best signal networks will appear first.

- Added support to fetch an MJPEG HTTP URL stream, similar to older
MJPEG camera functionality. To see the steps on how to achieve this,
read our forum post here:
http://foscam.us/forum/how-to-fet...t4328.html

- Added support to fetch JPG pictures by snapshot CGI commands, similar
to older MJPEG camera functionality. To see steps on how to achieve this,
read our forum post here:
http://foscam.us/forum/how-to-fet...t4328.html

FIXES:

- Fixed an issue where wireless password settings didn't seem to be
saved on the wireless settings page after rebooting the camera. In
reality, the settings would be saved, but this was not indicated on
the display page. This has been fixed.

- Changed the interval of alarm images to 1 second.

- Fixed an issue where the playback speed of recordings was not
synchronized, video would playback much faster than normal. This has
been fixed.

- Fixed a bug where camera settings could be seen when logging in as
a visitor or operator if the plug-in was not installed.

- Fixed an issue where iOS mail servers could not receive or see alarm
pictures.

- Fixed a bug where the OSD on alarm images would not change.

- Fixed a bug where FTP connections were not being closed after uploading
images, causing multiple open connections on the FTP server.

- Several grammar and spelling issues have been fixed.
